- Graduate of Yale University.
- Taught for 15 years at the Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut.
- His first Broadway success came in 1912 with the musical comedy "Sari".
- Served in France during World War I with the entertainment division of the Y.M.C.A. His play "Out of Luck", written for the Yale University Drama Association, was based on his wartime experiences.
- Collaborated with playwrights Winchell Smith on "Thank You" and David Belasco on "Laugh Clown, Laugh".
- Maintained a winter residence in Bermuda.
- A brother survives him, William Cushing, a member of the faculty of Groton School.
