Alfonso Cuarón knew he wanted franchise installment “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” to be different from the other “Potter” films. So the professor assigned his Hogwarts, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff students some homework.
The director wanted the 2004 “Harry Potter” feature to have a “noir” tone, which Cuarón believed would best present the coming-of-age moment for both the trio of characters played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, as well as for the film series itself.
Cuarón was the first new director to step in after Chris Columbus directed the first two films.
“Chris [Columbus] would help them with intonation and get them excited; Alfonso was treating them as young adults: what are you feeling?” the franchise’s producer David Heyman recalled to Total Film for a 20th-anniversary retrospective interview.
Part of getting the core cast to grow up onscreen was to have each actor meditate on their respective characters’ motivations.

The third season of Eric Kripke’s The Boys has been as popular as the first two, with fans loving the appearance of new faces to the main cast of the show such as Jensen Ackles in the role of Soldier Boy. With the 4th season right around the corner, the enthusiasm for the show continues to grow. Interestingly, during the 3 seasons, a strange phenomenon has been noticed, that is how some fans are deeply obsessed with Antony Starr’s Homelander.

An essential element of the fanbase’s love for the antagonist is his narcissistic and manipulative behavior, and it has grown to the point where they are obsessed with the character. This notion has captured Starr’s attention and responded to the fans who are imitating the Supe in real life.

Throughout history, horror films have always been social activities -- manageable mini-adventures to be experienced in kinship with a friend, a group, a date, a significant other. There's something perennially appealing about sharing a scary and disturbing movie with someone you love, seeing them react alongside you, feeling bound by a collective sense of dread, encouraging each other to shrug off the fight-or-flight instinct, and ride it out when a scene gets too horrifying. A good horror film can even bring people closer. But horror films are seldomly family events.
To be sure, there is a certain logic to watching specific horror movies with family members. The urgency of a survival adventure like "Train to Busan" or "A Quiet Place," the simmering intensity of a creature thriller like "Jaws" or "Alien," the roller-coaster-ride excitement of a game transformed into an exercise in terror in "The Conjuring," or the unspooling mysteries...

Prior to 1999, the phrase "sixth sense" typically referred to a keen sense of intuition, often so powerful as to be considered a supernatural power. The definition, however, was broad, and people could be said to have "a sixth sense" about, say, predicting horse races. Since the release of M. Night Shyamalan's 1999 ghost story "The Sixth Sense," however, the phrase now more commonly refers to one's ability to see and communicate with the dead. The film was that popular. At any rate, that's the superpower possessed by the young Cole (Haley Joel Osment), something that causes a great deal of consternation to his psychologist Malcolm (Bruce Willis). How can one treat a child when mutilated ghosts are randomly appearing to him?

Ready, steady, go! But be warned, this article contains spoilers for "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga."
Long before 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road" and its particular brand of vehicular mayhem peeled into theaters, promptly changing the action genre forever, director and mastermind George Miller had already mapped out an origin story for what would turn out to be the blockbuster's scene-stealing star: Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa. It only took the better part of a decade to finally see that vision realized on the big screen with this year's utterly epic "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," but the lengthy hiatus wasn't the biggest obstacle standing in Miller's way. Since the prequel was always meant to depict the earlier years of Furiosa's life, a new actor would have to face the daunting — if not impossible — challenge of stepping into Theron's shoes.

Netflix’s Avatar might not have been a resounding success, but it is definitely a step up from its previous iteration, which came in the form of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. Among the numerous decisions that the film made, one of the most criticized aspects of the movie was the CGI that it used.
The Last Airbender | Nickelodeon Movies
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender had a lot riding on it. While it had to bear the burden of satisfying fans who had been hurt once before by an inadequate live-action adaptation, it also had to make sure that it did not repeat the same mistakes that the first live-action adaptation of the animated series made. It is safe to say, that if nothing else, the Netflix version of the IP had the previous live-action adaptation beat in one key way.

There is no forgetting the putrid and almost sickly sweet smell of human death once it has become an olfactory memory. Those unfamiliar with this hyper-specific stench should count themselves lucky. However, that odor of mortality is all the characters of Reeker have to keep themselves safe. Danger lurks wherever that fetor goes. Dave Payne’s 2005 horror film introduced a unique villain named after his most notable attribute, yet by the time that cadaverous stink has been inhaled by potential victims, the chance for escape may have already expired.
Following a silly but grisly cold-open — a random family becomes a roadside picnic for The Reeker, who remains unseen early on — director and writer Payne sets up what looks to be a garden-variety slasher: one by one, young folks are murdered in gruesome fashion, somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. No doubt that pitch sounds familiar. As straightforward as the film starts out,...

Notwithstanding the iconic nature of the Harry Potter IP, it is one of the most astonishing works of imagination and creativity combined. But bringing the words from a literary franchise to life cannot be so easy. As such, Rupert Grint became one of the primary victims of the repercussions that came with getting cast in the live-action film series as one of the three main characters.

Everywhere on social media, you read comments from readers lamenting our modern culture.
They long for the good old days when comedy was offensive, antiheroes said whatever they were thinking, and actors were judged by their undeniable talent rather than the biggest mistakes of their careers.
Plotlines were more important than representation. Complicated characters were more important than "Wokeness."
Back then, they say, it didn't matter if a character was black or gay. All that mattered was the story.
We watched because a filmmaker had something important to say, not because every race and sexual orientation appeared and was treated with respect.
We listened because regardless of what anyone said about a comedian, at least he was funny!
Unsurprisingly, many of the same social critics would also say no movies from the 2010-2030 era will be remembered as classics 20 or 30 years from now.

In 2002, M. Night Shyamalan had already done the impossible in Hollywood: He was a director who became a household name. At the time, you couldn’t probably only say that about a handful of directors, the usual suspects: Spielberg, Scorsese, Tarantino. Maybe a few others. But after the blockbuster success of 1999’s The Sixth Sense, which became one of the biggest movies of all time, not to mention a Best Picture nominee, Shyamalan was now a brand. One year after The Sixth Sense, Shayamalan brought us Unbreakable, a brooding, suspenseful drama about a man who’s burdened with a great responsibility he doesn’t even know about. To say it was an unusual take on the superhero genre would be an understatement, and as hard as it is to believe, superhero movies were not a “thing” when Unbreakable came out. So the movie, while respected and destined to build a loyal following,...

The Harry Potter franchise made worldwide stars of its main three actors, who portray Harry, Hermione and Ron. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson seem to be in sight after the last Hp movie was released in 2011, while the fate of Rupert Grint, who played the most awkward and the youngest son of the Weasley family, is lesser known.
It turns out that after starring in Harry Potter, which was quite a challenge to Grint, he preferred to explore indie films and take the unexpectedly extravagant roles.
His first post-Potter project was the 2012 war drama Into the White, and the actor’s feisty character was definitely a far cry from Ron Weasley.
This trend continued in the 2013 biopic Cbgb, where Grint reunited with the Severus Snape actor, Alan Rickman, with them playing drastically different roles they had in Hp. Besides, that year is remarkable for the actor’s appearance in Charlie Countryman.

Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly one of the finest filmmakers of our time. But as much as he is a passionate filmmaker, he is also a passionate cinephile: having absorbed the best that contemporary cinema has to offer since childhood, Tarantino bases his work on the most recognizable tropes and directorial styles, creating a refined pop culture mishmash. And as a huge film buff, Tarantino shared a list of the 20 films he 'admires the most' in a conversation with Sky Movies in 2009.
20 Must-Watch Movies According to Tarantino
Before we get to the list itself, it's important to note that it's not in order of importance, but in alphabetical order. Except for the number one, because for Tarantino it is 'favorite movie that has come out in the last 17 years.' Besides, as he pointed out, this is one of the few movies he would personally dream of directing.

Four months of horror releases down, eight to go! With our 2024 Horror Preview, we’re looking ahead at some of the other horror movies we can’t wait to check out this year. For now, we’re only including movies that have a known release date, so films like the remakes/reboots of The Toxic Avenger and Witchboard are currently absent because they don’t have a release date yet, even though they’re likely to show up at some point in 2024. Here we go:

Kevin Costner is heavily into Western drama when he’s not doing his sports drama films. The actor headlined Taylor Sheridan’s series set in a Montana ranch, Yellowstone. He’s also currently working on his two-part dream Western project, Horizon. With all his love for the cowboy genre, it would be surprising for fans to know that Costner turned down a villain role in Django Unchained.

At the start of 2023, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan secured a multi-year deal with Warner Bros., and soon after that deal was made, we heard that his first movie for Warner Bros. would be Trap, a “psychological thriller set at a concert”. That project made its way through production toward the end of last year, with lead roles going to Josh Hartnett, fresh off his appearance in Oppenheimer (pictured below), and Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka. Now the film’s August 9th theatrical release date is swiftly approaching, so today (a couple weeks after we saw the trailer), a poster for the movie has arrived online, along with an original song Saleka recorded for the movie, where she plays a pop star called Lady Raven. The poster can be seen at the bottom of this article, and you can listen to the Lady Raven song “Release” at LadyRavenMusic.com.

It's no secret to any horror buff that the genre's greatest offerings aren't always defined by critical prestige. But when it comes to horror television, the uphill battle that new shows face to overcome skepticism and garner positive reviews is even steeper. This is aptly demonstrated by the TV landscape of the '90s, in which writers and directors galvanized the medium by venturing into as-yet-unexplored depths of scariness, violence, and production value. However, creators weren't always able to translate that broadening of horizons into favorable critical notes.
Sure, it was the decade of "Twin Peaks," "The X-Files," Stephen King's "It," and all the bold new offerings for which such beloved programs paved the way by evidencing audiences' appetite for serious, well-made horror TV. But it was also the decade of a vast number of critical flops, which have been either largely forgotten or marred by extremely negative reputations...

M. Night Shyamalan hit the jackpot with his 1999 movie The Sixth Sense, which established him as a brand in suspense-thriller movies. While pitching the story to different studios, Shyamalan wanted them to fulfill a few of his conditions. The director knew that he was making a risky gamble since he was only known in the industry for writing a few spec scripts at the time. However, his gamble paid off as studios were fighting each other to bid for his film.
