PinkPantheress is ready to get back to the music with the release of her latest single, “Turn it Up,” marking the musician’s first release since sharing her debut album Heaven Knows in 2023. The propulsive, skittering record builds around a sample of Selena Quintanilla’s “Dreaming of You.”
“Super excited to share my first release of 2024, turn it up, so proud to pay homage to a beautiful song and I hope the people love it too,” PinkPantheress, who wrote and produced the song, shared in a statement. Throughout “Turn it Up,...

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.

Fifty-three years ago today, the world was blessed with the birth of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who became an eternal icon in Latin pop culture and music. Selena blazed a trail for the música Mexicana explosion that we're seeing today and the Latina pop stars who have followed in her footsteps. Her impact is often minimized in comparison to the circumstances of her tragic death. However, her music - and how she bridged the gap between her Mexican and American identities - continue to resonate with new generations of Latine fans.
Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971, and grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. She was an Aries, a sign often described as "passionate, brave, and headstrong." Indeed of conforming with the música Mexicana artists of the time, she paved the way for herself by proudly embracing her Chicana identity. Black. It is the color that absorbs all colors, the shade that holds the sun's warmth as it moves east to west. It is the color of a people, not just African but Caribbean, Middle Eastern, American, and more. But it is also music: the color at the center of the trumpet's brass ring, the shadow that fills the club when the lights get low and the party begins. Over the decades, Latin music has built a reputation for being wildly popular, no doubt in part due to its danceable nature. But what often gets lost in the conversation is the contribution that Black Latines had in cultivating the sound that, today, many of us regard as uniquely "Latin."

Brie Larson lived out her dream at the Golden Globes when she encountered Jennifer Lopez on the red carpet.
While being interviewed by Kevin Frazier for Entertainment Tonight, the Oscar winner spotted JLo and got emotional at the idea of being in close proximity to the “Waiting for Tonight” singer.
“Oh my God! I can’t deal with JLo,” Larson said as Frazier motioned Lopez to step up to the Et podium.
Frazier tried to calm Larson down, telling her that “we all get this way” and that he had almost cried as well.
“No, I can’t. I’m going to cry,” Larson said as Lopez made her way up the steps and the Captain Marvel star covered her face with her hands, trying to contain her excitement.
Once Lopez made her way up the steps, Larson told her, “You mean so much to me.”

Jennifer Lopez is reflecting on what she wishes she had known before her rise to fame in Hollywood.
During a recent interview for Elle magazine‘s 2023 Women in Hollywood December/January issue, the multihyphenate admitted that she “really came in blind” and looking back would be more selective in what she takes on.
“I didn’t have that luxury, being Latina. I didn’t get called in for everything someone who wasn’t Latina would get called in for. I got called in for very specific things,” Lopez explained. “As I started getting more leads here and there, I should have pulled back. I took that mindset with me instead of going, ‘I should only work with certain kinds of directors that I really want to work with. I should choose this material in a different way.’”
The Hustlers star continued, “I just wasn’t as particular as I could be,...

Karol G is at the best moment in her career. Amid dropping the history-making album "Mañana Será Bonito" and selling out stadiums across the United States, the Colombian superstar will receive a special honor at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards: the Spirit of Hope Award award, which recognizes an artist's humanitarian and philanthropic work.
Before becoming Karol G, she was born Carolina Giraldo Navarro in Medellín, Colombia. Her journey to becoming one of today's top Latina pop stars was many years in the making. Karol G came up alongside two guys from her city, J Balvin and Maluma, though her ascent wasn't as quick as theirs. Karol G's tenacity to make it as a woman in a men-dominated reggaetón scene eventually led to her debut album, the aptly titled "Unstoppable," in 2017.

Choosing a Halloween costume is pretty much like choosing a new identity: it's one night to be whoever you want, and what's more fun than pretending you're a famous musician? Of course you could go more current and channel Beyoncé's "Renaissance" World Tour costumes, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, or Justin Bieber, but going back in time can be really exciting too - especially when it comes to paying homage to an iconic musician.
As far as musician Halloween costumes go, you'll be in good company. In 2017, Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney channeled Madonna and Michael Jackson with spot-on looks, while both Demi Lovato and Kim went as Selena Quintanilla in 2017. Beyoncé herself has often favored famous musician costumes for Halloween, dressing up with Blue Ivy and Tina Knowles as Salt-n-Pepa in 2016 and going as Toni Braxton in 2018. There were many significant Latino artists who shaped the soundtrack of Congressman Joaquin Castro’s childhood when he was growing up in San Antonio, Texas. As a kid, his mother loved Joan Baez; Castro remembers that she would play the folk singer’s 1975 Diamonds and Rust album over and over around the house. He also recalls liking a lot of the Tex-Mex fusion sounds pioneered by the Texas Tornados and Freddy Fender, and he’d even listen to Ricky Martin’s late Nineties pop songs once in a while.

I often think about what people might think of me. I wonder if they assume I had life all planned out. But the truth is, life's twists and turns often leave us grappling with emotions we can hardly comprehend. For me, a stand-up comedian and actress, this journey has been colored by moments of burnout, depression, and a profound realization that prioritizing my mental health has not only been necessary but imperative to my overall well-being.
My battle with depression dates back to my teenage years, a time when the weight of the world felt unbearable. When I tried to end my life, around the age of 14, the pivotal moment caught everyone off guard. My family rallied around me, illustrating the saying "it takes a village to raise a child." Their unwavering support became my lifeline, guiding me through the darkest days.

Edward James Olmos is recalling the harrowing experience of battling throat cancer. The legendary actor spoke about it publicly for the first time with Mando Fresko on the “Mando & Friends” podcast, saying doctors had to aggressively attack the cancer to the point they were unsure what his voice would sound like after it was all said and done.
The 76-year-old actor says he’s thankful to be alive after finishing his last round of radiation on Dec. 20. The “Stand and Deliver” star credits his relentless pursuit of living a healthy lifestyle — with daily exercise and healthy eating — which he says gave him a fighting chance against a cancer that’s cost the lives of many of his friends.
“This would be the first time publicly I’ll be coming out and saying it, but I had throat cancer,” Olmos said. “I just finished getting through it. December 20 was my last radiation.
