Vertical is getting ahead of the crowds as this year’s Cannes market starts wheeling and dealing for Hollywood’s hottest projects and properties. The studio acquired the U.S. rights from AGC Studios to The Order, with Justin Kurzel in the director’s chair. Based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s novel The Silent Brotherhood, The Order stars Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, and Tye Sheridan.
Here’s a synopsis of Flynn and Gerhardt’s novel courtesy of Library Journal:
Two courageous investigative journalists have created an insider’s account of the “silent brotherhood,” the anti-Jewish, white supremacist underground that, with the justification of some perversely interpreted Christian teachings, conducts an all-out race war. The movement has gathered a group of superpatriots, zealots, malcontents, as well as, rather disturbingly, a large majority of ordinary people. These followers see the underground’s survivalist creed as the way whites can protect...

Exclusive: Vertical has acquired U.S. rights from AGC Studios to The Order, a dramatic thriller directed by Australia’s Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), on which we were first to report. Starring Jude Law (Firebrand), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men franchise), Tye Sheridan (The Card Counter), Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey) and more, the film will will have an exclusive release in theaters nationwide later this year.
Written by Oscar and BAFTA nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard), the film adapts Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s book The Silent Brotherhood, chronicling the escalating crimes of the titular white supremacist domestic terror group. It’s set in 1983, when a series of increasingly violent bank robberies, counterfeiting operations, and armored car heists frightened communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. As baffled law enforcement agents scrambled for answers, a lone FBI agent (Law), stationed in the sleepy, picturesque town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, came to believe...

The legendary actor, who has brought to life some of pop culture’s most zen characters, confirmed that he was indeed returning to Disney for the third film in the series – Tron: Ares. But in what capacity?

A lot of sci-fi films helped shape the genre into what it is today, but perhaps none of them are as underrated as the 1982 film "Tron." The original entry into a franchise that would come to span several decades was studded with soon-to-be stars like the incomparable Jeff Bridges, who would go on to earn an Academy Award.
Bridges stars in the action-adventure as Kevin Flynn, a video game developer who gets trapped inside his own software and has to interact with the programs inside his computer's main frame to escape. Digital technology was still emerging in the 1980s, and computers were relegated to those with a proclivity for science. All that is to say, the public wasn't ready for a movie filled with symbolic computer metaphors, and the film was not a success.

Jeff Bridges reveals that he and Joseph Kosinski have discussed how to bring back Olivia Wilde as Quorra in a potential Tron Vr movie.
No matter how legendary an actor’s career is, some roles will always follow them around long after the sets have been torn away. And when an actor is as legendary as the Dude himself, Mr Jeff Bridges, they’re likely to have more than a few such parts in the rolodex. Among those for Bridges, the character of Kevin Flynn and his godlike importance in those trippy Tron movies remains high on the list, probably in no small part due to that ever elusive Tron 3.
While Disney has demurred on plans to make another sequel to the groundbreaking Tron (1982) and the cult-followed Tron: Legacy (2010), many fans keep the flame of “Flynn Lives” going, including Bridges himself. This past summer, Bridges revealed he...

Dr. Cahill has done her job.
For 13 episodes, she has tried to reach Riggs during their weekly sessions. It seemed like lost cause.
But by the end of Lethal Weapon Season 1 Episode 14, we see how much of an impact Dr. Cahill has really made on Martin Riggs.
I love when Lethal Weapon shifts the focus from Riggs to another member of the team. A few episodes back we spent some time with Avery.
This time around we got to know Dr. Cahill a little better.
She found herself in a bit of trouble after she was targeted by a stalker who murdered her boyfriend, but lucky for her she had the best team on the Lapd working on her case.
Dr. Cahill is usually the one trying to solve people's problems, so it was a nice change of pace to watch Riggs and Murtaugh try to solve her problem.

Let’s get it out of the way: 1982’s Tron is a perfect example of a film wherein style completely trumped substance to its lasting detriment. That’s not to take away from its importance as a groundbreaking piece of work, one undeniably laced with rich iconography, but instead to point out that on a narrative level, Tron left a lot to be desired, too caught up – and understandably so – in exploring its own world to focus on giving us a solid story with which to truly support itself. As a result, with several decades now under its belt and its once incredible effects and animation now painfully dated, it’s even easier to see that there’s no real meat on the film’s bones that has allowed it to truly stand the test of time for most people outside of its own loyal fanbase.

The 23-year-old singer premiered the music video for his latest single overnight, following the releases of "Pillowtalk," "iT's YoU" and "BeFoUr" from his album, Mind of Mine. Though Malik has not confirmed that the video was inspired by 1982's Tron or 2010's Tron-Legacy, it nevertheless feels referential. Like Jeff Bridges' Kevin Flynn, Garett Hedlund's Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde's Quorra, Malik wears a light-up motocross-inspired suit. Earlier this year, fans were fired up with the whispers and rumors that the third Tron film that we.d all been waiting for was finally going to happen. While Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund were talked up over a period of a couple of weeks, as well as the fact that production was pegged for an October start date, it looked like D23 or ComicCon would be the good time to make an official announcement. But sadly, the world of Kevin Flynn was put on ice once more, and no one sounds more upset about it than Tron himself . Bruce Boxleitner. While talking to a member of the SlashFilm team at an event to promote his current show, Cedar Cove, Boxleitner was asked for a reaction to the cancellation of the film that became known as Tron Ascension. His reaction started with the following: I.m done with it.

Back in March, reports surfaced that Tron 3, the sequel to 2010's anticipated Tron: Legacy, was gearing up to start shooting this fall in Vancouver. Shortly thereafter it was confirmed that star Garrett Hedlund and director Joseph Kosinski were going to be back for the sequel, which has been rumored to be title Tron: Ascension. Now word comes from THR that Olivia Wilde will be reprising her role as Quorra, an algorithm turned sentient human who left the grid with Sam (Hedlund), son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), at the conclusions of Legacy. However, we still don't know what the sequel will focus on this time. Read on! Also unknown is whether or not Jeff Bridges or the title program himself, played by Bruce Boxleitner, will be back for this sequel. However, perhaps the most important element of this film's cool factor, beyond the breathtaking visuals, would be the return...

On Saturday at 8pm, BBC2 are showing the 2010 Tron reboot shortly after the Jeff Bridges-starring original. That may not be the best idea of all time
"Tron, what have you become?" - Kevin Flynn
There's some weird scheduling on BBC2 this weekend. At 5:30pm, it's showing Tron; the still-startling, immediately identifiable 1982 movie that captivated me – and millions of children like me – back in the 1980s. A little later, it's showing the terrestrial premiere of Tron: Legacy, the film's enormously anticipated 2010 follow-up.
These films aren't being broadcast back-to-back, though. As soon as Tron finishes, there's an hour-long programme about Nelson Mandela to get through before Tron: Legacy begins. This gap might have been necessitated by current events, or it might just simply be a quirk of scheduling. However, you can't help feeling that the 60-minute buffer was put there to lower expectations. Tron was such an important film, so idiosyncratic and iconic,...

To quote Homer Simpson, “did anybody see the movie Tron?” Okay, okay, I’m sure quite a lot of people have actually seen Tron, and probably liked it. Wait, no, I don’t mean the Tron with the Daft Punk soundtrack and Olivia Wilde lying on a sofa. I’m talking about the original Tron. The Tron from 1982, with the light cycles and the funny graphics, and Jeff Bridges playing, well, Jeff Bridges.
From a modern perspective, Tron just about holds up to our often critical gaze. Of course the computer animation appears very basic, the science fiction tale is riddled with clichés, and the overall feel of the film at times verges on comedic. But, despite all its flaws and narrative simplicity, Tron is fundamentally a strong film.
Even at face value, it is a film worthy of praise for its innovative daring and way-ahead-of-its-time-ness; courtesy of the brains of creator Steven Lisberger,...

Joseph Kosinski doesn't want you to know anything about "Oblivion." Nothing. Sure, you probably know that it starts with Tom Cruise and that he's on a wasteland of Earth sometime in the future. But, if the director of "Oblivion" (who also directed 2010's "Tron: Legacy") gets his way, that's all you will know before you see it.
He knows that revealing too much could ruin viewers' experience, but also knows the risks of not revealing some of the twists and turns that might whet a movie-going appetite.

Harper, who is basically part of an Earth cleanup crew, spends his days repairing unmanned drones that have been damaged by the remaining aliens, while the rest of human society has migrated to Saturn's largest moon,...

Whether they’re male or female, old or young, they’ve illuminated some classic movies. Here’s our top 50 list of sci-fi heroes and heroines…
On the face of it, compiling a list of truly great sci-fi protagonists should be easy. Pick a load of familiar names from a hat, write some breathlessly adoring drivel beneath them, and head off to the pub to reward a job well done.
Except it was never going to be as simple as that – and compiling lists seldom is. For every character making an appearance in the list below, there were at least two other possible candidates who didn't quite make the cut. Some sci-fi heroes were removed, then quickly reinstated. The order was jiggled around, then reordered again.
At one point, your humble writer realised there were more than 50 entries, and then had the unenviable task of hunting back through to decide which poor soul to eliminate.

Executive producers of Once Upon a Time, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were asked at Wondercon to give an update on the next Tron sequel and their involvement with that sequel but instead turned the attention to the upcoming Disney Xd Animated Series.
“The first thing that’s up that Adam and I created (with Sean Bailey) is the animated show, Tron Uprising, which is airing in April/May (on Disney Xd),” previewed Kitsis. “Because of Once Upon a Time, we were made co-producers on the sequel.”
“Dave Digilio is the new writer who was hired,” Horowitz followed. “He’s amazing, and we’re very, very excited to get a new draft that he’s currently revising.”
It looks as if everyone is waiting their turn with other engagements or the suits at Disney are observing how well this animated series performs. Meanwhile, Kitsis and Horowitz have been hard at...

They are two of Hollywood's favorite subjects: stories about writers and stories about daddy issues. Both subjects will be getting smashed together like Pb&J in Being Flynn, a new drama starring Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore, Paul Dano, and Olivia Thirlby. It is not, despite what you might think, based on the autobiography of tech mogul and occasional cyberspace tourist Kevin Flynn. It's actually based on writer Nick Flynn's memoir, the amusingly titled Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, and it's being written and directed by Paul Weitz. Dano stars as Nick, a young writer who volunteers at various homeless shelters in Boston. During one of those volunteer nights he is stunned to find himself looking into the face of his estranged -- and now homeless -- father, played by De Niro. The father was himself a brilliant writer, but his talent never translated into being a good father,...

People wearing masks often used by "Anonymous". What are Your FAve Hacking Films Of All-tme
Fox News is reporting that The New York Stock Exchange withstood a hacker attack Monday by the famous hacker group Anonymous, having only briefly affecting the NYSE website.
“NYSE.com appeared to slow down and perhaps go offline briefly between 3:35pm and 3:37pm, media reports said, but there was no interruption to trading on the stock exchange and the public website immediately returned to normal.”
Anonymous had warned earlier that its attack would come at 3:30pm on October 10.
With this news it made us wonder what some of our favorite Hacker themed films were of all-time. This is below is compiled around films that center around hacking, hackers doing something disruptive. There is a lot of films that feature “hacking” as a sub-plot but they didn’t warrant tons of consideration as these films did.

Michelle Clunie faced a tall order taking on Abby in "The Mercy Seat," a role that proved emotionally exhausting for no less a stage and screen veteran than Sigourney Weaver, who originated the character in Neil Labute's two-hander Off-Broadway in 2002. Clunie appears to have been up to the demanding material, however, as Back Stage's readers selected her turn in Vs. Theatre Company's spring 2011 production as the most memorable stage performance of the past 12 months.Writing for Back Stage, critic Les Spindle singled out the actor: "Clunie brilliantly segues between harping harridan and vulnerable woman in love, illuminating the multiple dimensions of this ostensibly tough cookie."Reader comments:"Incredibly complex character handled with extreme gentleness and insight. My first time seeing her perform; I was blown away." —Kevin Flynn"Michelle Clunie was remarkable. Walt Disney Pictures has tapped scribe David Digilio to pen the third installment of their popular Tron film franchise. Tron: Legacy, a direct sequel to Disney's 1982 sleeper hit Tron, stars Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde and Michael Sheen. It was released theatrically in 3D and IMAX 3D on December 17th, 2010 to mixed reviews but financial success. The film followed Sam Flynn (Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Bridges), a man once known as the world's leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn's Arcade -- a signal that could only come from his father-- he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help...

Tron: Legacy is one of those films that polarizes moviegoers. It's pure nonsense, escapist entertainment designed to entertain fans of the original while appealing to a new generation that will hopefully snap up loads of Tron-related merchandise and form the foundation of the audience for another sequel. It grossed nearly $400 million worldwide, so it clearly appealed to more than just the relative handful of aficionados of the first installment. But was it any good? Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment Disney has just released a massive 5-disc Blu-Ray/DVD combo that includes Tron: Legacy and the original Tron, and the occasion gave us the opportunity to revisit Legacy. Well, here's our view. It's entertaining, gorgeous to look at (and we don't just mean Olivia Wilde) and even pretty exciting at times, but it's also generally predictable, occasionally incomprehensible and silly, not to mention way too zen for its own good.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the majority of people in the market for the Tron: Legacy Blu-ray set weren’t blown away in theaters by its story, but by the stunning visuals the film had to offer (especially when viewed in IMAX 3D). To a lesser extent, some feverishly believe the whole shebang, plot and all, was a magnificent followup to its predecessor, 80s sci-fi classic Tron. The good news for both of these camps is that the Blu-ray set, which includes Tron: The Original Classic and a satisfactory set of bonus features, is just the piece of eye candy worthy of any hi-def collector’s portfolio.
Storywise, Tron: Legacy is about par the course with the original. I’d describe as it as presenting a simple, easy to follow plot that posits some hazy computer mumbo-jumbo to make things seem more complicated than they are.

Chicago – “Tron: Legacy” may be a bit too long and pretty goofy but it delivers what one should expect from it — bright colors, inventive action, and a compelling enough story to keep viewers interested. I’ll admit to having pretty low expectations for the film, but I was surprised at how well it works on Blu-ray with a stellar HD transfer and accompanying audio mix along with fascinating special features, including an HD version of the film that inspired it.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0
The story of “Tron: Legacy” deals with advanced technology, identity problems, and even daddy issues. It is about a man whose creation betrays him, imprisons him, and keeps him trapped away from his son for decades. That man is Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) from the original “Tron,” a man who becomes betrayed by his own creation Clu (a young-looking, computer-generated Bridges that I’m afraid will age very...

I’m not entirely sure the use of the word “Classic” on the cover is entirely justified here, since Tron‘s popularity must surely be classed more as a cult thing than something of the mainstream. Judged by “traditional” factors for critique, it doesn’t exactly shine; the tone extremely camp and a little too self-consciously wierd, the script is full of problems and the pace is all over the place, but it still conjours up a tangible nostalgia that is as much indicative of the magic of cinema as real quality is.
In conjunction with the Blu-ray release of Tron Legacy, the original “classic” is now also available to buy on blu-ray.
Although everyone should by now know the plot, there may be those of you out there who haven’t yet seen the original Tron, having only just discovered the sequel, so here goes anyway. Ex-encom employee Kevin Flynn...

We haven't yet embraced the 3D revolution here at CinemaSpy. Let's be honest, most of the movies released in the format don't benefit from it. Many were not filmed using 3D cameras so is it any wonder that they are underwhelming? Now Disney's Tron: Legacy has come to the Blu-ray market as the standard bearer for 3D entertainment in the home. In that respect, it steals a march on Avatar, which is only available on 3D Bd with a TV attached. But does Tron: Legacy do enough to sell us on 3D for small screens when we have yet to be convinced of the format's value on big ones?
Tron: Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi semi-classic Tron. In the history of sci-fi cinema, Tron is hardly innovative in terms of its story. It stands out because it reflects a significant social development and it made ground-breaking use of computer graphics.

Tron: Legacy is both distancing and oddly engaging. This 28-years later sequel could not be more similar to the first installment. It runs at a mild pace, is more technically impressive rather than thematically and there’s not a whole lot of compelling drama. That’s not to say Joseph Kosinski‘s directorial debut isn’t without some soulful inspiration. The man’s clearly at some heartstrings throughout, and while it doesn’t hit the attempt feels admirable.
The original Tron is, by no means of the imagination, a genuine classic. It’s a B-level adventure film, sort of like the younger and less impressive brother of Star Wars. The original truly got by on having the advantage of the charismatic Jeff Bridges. His charms and likability sold the world of the Grid. Bridges made a goofy story-line believable and fun. And also, there were those never-before-seen special effects. This time around,...

Last week reported that Disney plans to move forward with Tron 3 after seeing its successful building block to a large franchise potential. Whether or not they should, director Joe Kosinski has already dropped some knowledge on us for what the third film’s story will focus on and who it will focus on. The director spoke with Assignment X revealing his plan to tacle further adventures of Sam Flynn but also the impact of someone like Quorra in the real world and the looming force of Dillinger’s son.
“We’re working on the story right now,” Kosinski tells Ax. “Once we get a script we’re all really happy with, we’ll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid…I think we will pick with where Tron: Legacy left off with Quorra [Olivia Wilde] in the real world and what does...

Greetings, Programs! There was a time when Tron was as cool as it could get. Then, in a world of liquid metal and computer-generated dinosaurs, it suddenly wasn’t… and it disappeared off the grid. But like anything buried for years in the sand, it has become cool again. Some may argue that the original 1982 classic is cooler than the long-awaited sequel Tron Legacy. Now that both are available – and on stunning Blu-ray, no less – you can be the final judge. This game works for either flick, so you might just end up like the geriatric Kevin Flynn by the end, but you’ll have fun going for the ride and knocking on the sky. And now, to cover our butts… This game is only for people over the age of 21. Please drink responsibly, and don’t trust anyone named Dillinger. Hereafter (Warner Bros.) Clint Eastwood’s spiritual thriller follows a trio of characters whose seemingly disparate paths converge: Matt Damon as a blue collar Joe who tries to fight against his psychic powers that see “the other side,” Cecile de France as a journalist who somehow survives the tsunami that crushed Indonesia, and a London schoolboy (Frankie and George McLaren) who seeks answers after losing his twin brother. Like all of Eastwood’s films, the narrative construction is tight as a drum, with solid work by all involved. That said, “solid” would have to be the operative word to describe the proceedings here, as well as “unremarkable” and “uninvolving” on an emotional level. Perhaps we expect too much when we see Clint’s name on a film these days, but that’s the flip side of being one of the best. Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

Upon second viewing of Tron Legacy, Disney's follow-up to the first CG film made 27 years ago, I find myself forgiving some of the movie's flaws in favor of what it provides upon casual viewing: nice eye candy.
My problems with Legacy remain pretty much the same as when I reviewed the movie last December. Much of the film lacks the ability to make the viewer care much for the estrangled father-son relationship between Jeff Bridges' Kevin Flynn and Garret Hedlund's Sam Flynn, and I suspect that may be due to director Joseph Kosinski's shortcomings. He was wrestling with a technologically complex and expensive movie as his first studio film, and I suspect that he focused on getting an adequate performance out of his two leads but would up concentrating on making sure that all the processing power and rendering time was getting put to good use. One can read about the extensive restoration of what many consider to be Martin Scorsese's finest film at The Digital Bits, but if you're a film fan, you might not need convincing to pick up the latest edition of the film about the disillusioned cabbie, which includes all the special features from the previous DVDs of the film (a feature-length making of doc, a score of shorter featurettes) while adding the commentary track between Scorsese and writer Paul Schrader that originally appeared on the 1986 Criterion laser disc. All in all, it's the definitive edition that the film deserves.

Tron: Legacy Get on The Grid this week, as Disney's remake of the sci-fi cult classic about getting lost in a computer world comes to DVD, Bd and 3D Bd. Three new blockbusters hit the store shelves this week. A comedy that did very well in theaters late last year and a successful follow-up.
The next Narnia film is also out on DVD this Friday.
Tron: Legacy - The follow-up to the 1982 original film, Tron has Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn. Flynn has been missing for 20 years after being stuck in a virtual world he created.
