It’s quite hard to believe that we have lived through a time when wearing masks and being vaccinated was as necessary as oxygen to breathe. The Covid-19 pandemic shut down various systems and threatened to disrupt entire industries. So, when Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal envisioned a Game of Thrones spinoff show focusing on the Targaryens, they knew they had to act fast and see what becomes of it. Matt Smith was one of the first actors they thought of.
HBO was not too keen on monopolizing the Westeros universe. They felt that the story needed new angles and perspectives. Subsequently, HBO canceled the other spinoff titled Bloodmoon after it reportedly went over budget. House of the Dragon was a saving grace since it would give fans something refreshing while ensuring success for the channel.

Showrunner Miguel Sapochnik was sort of a bridge between the shows Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. He knew the ins and outs of the Westerosi narrative and oversaw the production of both shows. He even directed six episodes of Game of Thrones.
However, a recent report suggested that Sapochnik has left House of the Dragon because the show decided not to invite his wife into the production team. He has been a great asset to House of the Dragon team since he knew how to bring such a grand show to life with resonance.

Matt Smith is one of the most prominent actors on the cast of House Of The Dragon, a Game of Thrones spinoff set in the Seven Kingdoms. He is known to series lovers as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who and as Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown. Smith initially had some doubts about playing Daemon Targaryen in the spinoff series as it came soon after the finale season of Game of Thrones.

Smith was concerned that audiences were already familiar with the story of House of the Dragon. He came to understand that the spinoff series was independent of its predecessor and told things on a bigger scale. The second season of the series will focus on the much anticipated Targaryen Civil War between Rhaenyra’s team black and Alicent’s team green.

On “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s fantasy epic that takes place two centuries before “Game of Thrones,” Matt Smith plays Daemon, a warrior prince who exists among fire-breathing reptiles and palace intrigue. But if his character were ever to leap deeper into the supernatural, Smith has some ideas about where he could go. “I think Daemon would make a really good vampire,” he says. “I can imagine him wandering the earth alone for all eternity.”
He certainly has the coloring: Pallid and platinum-blonde, Daemon looks as if he could have arrived in the forbidding and dark world of Westeros all the way from Transylvania. But he might be too hotblooded to play the vampire. And “House of the Dragon” — a prequel to the Emmy-gobbling, earth-shattering hit “Game of Thrones,” set during the reign of the incestuous Targaryen dynasty — is unlikely to pivot into creature horror.

Relationships are not the strongest suit when it comes to the morally grey characters in House of the Dragon. Still, we do come across couples who do manage to stand the test of time. House of the Dragon’s second season is getting closer to its release date on Max, and the never-ending details about the upcoming installment give us all an even scarier feeling of anticipation than ever before.
The show’s season 2 will finally bring the viewers a long-awaited fight for the ultimate power between the Blacks and the Greens, and, given House of the Dragon’s showrunner’s latest revelations, the full-scale war will get to the level that only Game of Thrones and some Marvel flicks could reach so far.
Despite recent heavy criticism regarding its creative decisions, the MCU is still like nobody else when it comes to turning on-screen big battles into something extremely realistic. With no connection to Marvel whatsoever, Game of Thrones was also a decent game player when it was time to blow everyone away with epic fight scenes, and now it seems like the...

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the next Games of Thrones spinoff, is coming together, and George R.R. Martin took to his blog to tease that it will have a “much different tone” from the previous shows.
“The Hedge Knight will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone… but it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe,” Martin wrote. “I hope to visit the shoot come July, when I swing by Belfast on my way to the worldcon in Glasgow. The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight will follow. By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories.“

House of the Dragon Season 2 is right around the corner and on time. Even after several scares from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Game of Thrones prequel’s production went down quite smoothly. We are just a few weeks away from the first episode of House of the Dragon Season 2. The period fantasy drama is a prequel to Game of Thrones (2011-2019). The HBO series was created by George Rr Martin and Ryan Condal and is based on Martin’s Fire and Blood book. The story takes place 200 years before the events of GoT.
House of The Dragon stars Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Tom Glynn-Carny, Ewan Mitchell, and others. The first season received a tremendous reaction and ended on a high note as we saw the bloodshed and wars. The season 2 trailers have hinted that things will only get uglier for the show’s characters. With the dragons having so much power this time, it is definitely going to be a fiery season!

When Ryan Condal started preparing and filming for House of the Dragon season 2, he made sure that the actors felt connected to their dragons. According to George R.R. Martin’s literature, Targaryens had a very close bond with their scaled beasts. So, the showrunner found it necessary to let the actors get fully acquainted with their dragons and their strengths.

Due to the several time jumps we have observed since the start of the series, House of the Dragon is rapidly approaching a full-fledged civil war involving the now-adult characters. This is significant since the tale that the television show is based on is really a few decades into the battle between the Greens and the Blacks, and the time jumps facilitate this. However, we won’t have them in Season 2.

Before House of the Dragon season 2 began filming, showrunner Ryan Condal assembled the actors of the Game of Thrones prequel to view a simple slideshow. The subject of this presentation? Dragons, naturally. The dragon riders needed to get acquainted with their bonded beasts, as they’ll never actually meet them in the scaly flesh.
“These poor actors climb up on a saddle but they never interact with the creature they’re supposed to have this close bond with,” Condal says. “If you believe Westerosi historical propaganda, Aegon [II] and Sunfyre famously had the closest bond between dragon and human in history. It’s important for Tom Glynn-Carney as an actor to know what Sunfyre looks like.”

If Game of Thrones was gory, s*xually explicit, and filled with n*dity and booze then wait for the House of the Dragon Season 2, as Olivia Cooke said, it has crossed the line of its sequel show. House of the Dragon Season 2 has been one of the highly anticipated television shows after the success of season 1, which gave chills to the bones to the devout fans of the saga.

Game of Thrones was necessarily a record-breaker with extremities to complement its grand narrative, but its prequel show has done wonders as well. With the House of the Dragon’s second season scheduled, Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in the show, gave fans some hint of what the second season entails.

One of the standout scenes in the latest trailer of House of the Dragon season 2 is where Alicent stops Aemond from going too far. Yes, the Greens want to win the war, but as his mother says, “Not like this.”
This sudden change in Alicent’s stance leaves something to be desired in fans as they piece together supposed situations in the second season of the show. New images from the previews and set prove that Alicent is not completely on board with Aemond’s insidious plans for the upcoming war for the throne.

Images of Aemond and Alicent together show Aegon’s catspaw dagger on Aemond’s belt. With that sinister smirk on his face, it definitely looks like Aemond is getting the upper hand in every situation. Ewan Mitchell has already claimed that his character is taking the war to another level.

House of the Dragon Producers Reveal Plans for Season 3 - Main Image
The first season of House of the Dragon was released to great success. Thus, it’s a no-brainer that it was renewed for another season, though with a reduced episode count. Now, the show's producers share their plans for House of the Dragon Season 3 in case HBO renews the show.
Compared to the 10-episode first season, House of the Dragon Season 2 will only have eight episodes.
Of course, many expected it to be as long as the first one, but the producers revealed they had no control over the reduced episode count.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series’ executive producer, Sara Hess, claimed this move wasn’t a creative call. Though she couldn’t say anything about it, she stressed it “wasn’t really our choice.”
But despite this change, plans for the hit HBO series are already sealed.

When HBO’s House of the Dragon premiered, one of the most controversial casting decisions was the choice of Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen. Alongside fans of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, even critics were skeptical that the Doctor Who star could bring the necessary depth and complexity to the role of the rogue prince.

Author George R.R. Martin created the global phenomenon Game of Thrones when he wrote the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. Set in a medieval fantasy realm where Seven Kingdoms fight to be the ruler of the lands, the novel series spawned the popular HBO show which won multiple Emmys and was one of the most-watched series.
After the show ended with season 8, which was largely considered to be disappointing, HBO commissioned multiple prequels, of which only House of the Dragon has seen the light of day. However, among the multiple prequels in development is Aegon’s Conquest, which sees the origins of the Seven Kingdoms. Writer Mattson Tomlin mentioned that Martin instructed him to avoid one mistake from Game of Thrones creators.

The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. All hail the king ... or the queen! Which one has the rightful claim, you ask? Well, that depends on which side you happen to have sworn allegiance to in the great Targaryen schism known as the Dance of the Dragons.
"House of the Dragon" lived up to its billing as an essential "Game of Thrones" prequel, set hundreds of years before Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen ever made their claims on the Iron Throne. HBO is rolling out some beauteous dragon footage and a potty-mouthed Aegon in the season 2 trailer for House of the Dragon, which returns June 16.
The drama based on on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” is setting up an epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers following the Season 1 finale, which saw tragedy befall the former (R.I.P Prince Lucerys Velaryon) at the hands of the latter (Prince Aemond Targaryen). The series was largely able to continue filming last summer during the strikes as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.
Season two returning cast is Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
In addition to Cooke and D’Arcy, fellow returning cast members include Matt Smith,...

In anticipation of the release of the second season, we are sharing available information about the upcoming episodes.
Warning: the text contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 1.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Will Be More Like Game of Thrones
The events of the second season take place during the Dance of Dragons, a long-running war between representatives of the Targaryen clan for possession of the Iron Throne. The main forces will be concentrated between the "black" forces of Rhaenyra and Daemon and the "green" army loyal to Aegon. Both sides will continue to kill each other's children, dragons, and distant relatives.
The sequel will have eight episodes, not ten like the first.

The highly acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon surrounding the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty, has made waves with its great mix of action, drama, and fantasy, which appealed to a wide range of viewers. Further, adding an element of excitement alongside standout performances from Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy, the spin-off featured legendary stories about great houses from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.
A still from House of the Dragon
Standing side by side with House Targaryen, House of the Dragon focused on another family, the Velaryons, helmed by the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon, and his wife, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Turning them central to this story, House Velaryons is distinctly portrayed as a Black family. Although people assume this was done solely for the sake of inclusivity, this deliberate creative choice is actually more than just for a diverse cast.
