You won’t have to go to a galaxy far, far away in order to get the latest installment of the Star Wars story. Coming in June on Disney+, fans will be treated to the new series “The Acolyte,” which travels back to the end of the galaxy’s High Republic Era. In a similar vein, also coming to the platform in the new month are the final episodes of Disney+’s first season as the streaming home for “Doctor Who.” You won’t want to miss any of the action as the Fifteenth Doctor attempts to save time and space.
Throughout June, Disney+ will also celebrate the 90th birthday of Donald Duck and premiere a new preschool-aimed series based on the iconic “Little Mermaid” film. As always, Disney+ will premiere titles that appear to all members of the family.
The company’s flagship streaming service has two subscription options.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, coming to Disney+ on June 4th. It promises a completely different adventure.
Set during the High Republic Era, known as the Golden Age of the Jedi Order, the show aims to show that Jedi don’t have a monopoly on the Force and can be villains too, given the right context.
Since the show is set in a completely different time period from the rest of the live-action franchise, many fans wondered if Yoda, one of the most notable Jedi, could appear. The timeline would fit, given his species’ long lifespan.
However, the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, clarified that Yoda or any other familiar characters from the past won’t appear in the show.
Can you imagine? Can you imagine if they were like, ‘No problem, you can use Yoda. Not a big deal. Go for it.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The show arrives on Disney+ on June 4th and it promises to be a completely different adventure.
The show will be set during the High Republic Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jedi Order due to their overwhelming numbers, and it seems that Headland is trying to use that setting to prove that Jedi don’t have the monopoly on Force and that they do too can be bad guys when context is given.

The timeline does checks out and it would be accurate due to the long life span of his species.

Kathleen Kennedy is familiar with the difficulties that women often face in the male-dominated Star Wars world.
In a brief conversation with The New York Times, Kennedy opened up about Leslye Headland’s upcoming series The Acolyte, and how she has faced misogyny as the head of Lucasfilm.
“Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying,” she told the publication. “I think Leslye has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of the women who step into Star Wars struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”
Kennedy’s comments come ahead of the release of the Disney+ series, which some in the fandom are already slamming for its inclusion of several women and people of color in powerful positions.

Star Wars will be getting a new show next month called The Acolyte. The mystery thriller show is reportedly set before the events of the Star Wars films (even the prequels) and follows the murder of multiple Jedi Knights. Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland acts as the creator and showrunner of the Disney+ series.
While the show has been in the making for the past four years, it has reportedly cost Disney a lot of money. According to a new report, the eight-episode series cost the studio $180 million, which is a lot considering the show features none of the characters previously seen in the franchise. Even the Ewan McGregor starring Obi-Wan Kenobi had a budget of $90 million.

Every fandom has its share of toxic elements, but it's probably fair to say that Disney-era Star Wars has experienced more negativity and backlash from a certain contingent of fans than any other franchise over the past few years.
There was the expected amount of pushback to Daisy Ridley being announced as the lead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it really picked up when her character, Rey, was deemed to be a "Mary Sue." The toxicity arguably reached a crescendo when Kelly Marie-Tran's Rose Tico was introduced in The Last Jedi, but the general perception among some fans that Star Wars has become too pandering in its representation and inclusivity continues.
With The Acolyte - a new Disney+ series from showrunner Leslye Headland featuring a primarily female cast - on the horizon, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy acknowledged that coming aboard the franchise can be a "terrifying" experience for female filmmakers and actors.

We're now just a few days away from the two-episode premiere of The Acolyte, and between the persistent rumors and the trailers possibly revealing a little too much, it seems Lucasfilm has given the cast the go-ahead to discuss a certain plot point relating to Amandla Stenberg's character.
If you'd rather go in knowing as little as possible, here's your spoiler warning.
Previous reports have claimed that Stenberg will actually play a dual role as twins, one of whom carries out the Jedi assassinations and frames the other for the murders.
During an interview with The Electric Playground, Stenberg confirmed that she is indeed playing twins named Mae and Osha, while also revealing some new details about both sisters.

The Acolyte is a show that takes place during the High Republic Era of Star Wars, which is set about one hundred years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This would indicate that while most of the Jedi Council that we know and despise might not be part of the show, fans could expect a certain Grandmaster of the Jedi Order to make an appearance in the show.

It took about 240 hours of training to turn “The Acolyte” actress like Danfe Keen into a certified Jedi master. That meant 240 hours of lightsaber practice, force training, stunt work and movement coaching from a dedicated team of instructors at Lucasfilm. But according to Keen, the most “surreal” part of her regiment was the “force meetings,” where every force user in “The Acolyte” would sit in a quiet room and discuss the mysterious space magic with an expert “Star Wars” advisor.
“You ask questions about the force to this all-knowing man called Pablo [Hidlago], who has been working at Lucasfilm for decades,” Keen explained Thursday at “The Acolyte” premiere in Los Angeles. “And anytime you had a doubt, you’d be like, ‘I need to talk to Pablo.'”

We're now less than a week away from the two-episode premiere of The Acolyte, and Disney+ has released a series of character posters spotlighting the show's Jedi heroes, as well as Mae, the mysterious dark-side assassin of the title.
In addition to providing new looks at Mae, Jedi Masters Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Padawan Jecki Lon, the banners reveal some new details about each character. There are no spoilers, of course, but the information does give us a better idea of how they'll factor into the story.
The first two episodes of The Acolyte were screened at a London premiere event last night, and attendees have been sharing their reactions to social media. Like the initial round of responses, these are mostly positive, if a little less enthusiastic overall.

Recently, the trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was released, promising plenty of action, as creator Leslye Headland has mentioned in numerous interviews.
However, the trailer also included a surprising reveal due to an accidental subtitle.
At the 0:20 mark of the trailer, Amandla Stenberg, who plays Mae, the former padawan of Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol, is heard saying, “I didn’t do it.” However, the subtitle mistakenly credits the line to “Osha,” not Mae.
So, why is this subtitle significant? If you’ve been following ‘The Acolyte,’ you know that one of the show’s biggest mysteries involves someone hunting down and killing Jedi.
The trailers also teased the presence of ‘The Acolyte,’ a dark force user likely responsible for these attacks. Fans have speculated that Mae, who is hinted to be this dark force user, has a twin sister named Osha, who is presumably still training under Jedi Master Sol.
However, the trailer also included a surprising reveal due to an accidental subtitle.

Recently, the trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was released, and it promised a lot of action, something that the creator herself, Leslye Headland promised in her many appearances across the media.
But the trailer also revealed something far more shocking, in the form of a accidentally included subtitle.
At the 0:20 mark, Amandla Stenberg, confirmed to portray Mae, the former padawan of Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol, is heard saying, “I didn’t do it.” However, the subtitle mistakenly credited the character speaking as “Osha,” not Mae.
So, what’s the big deal with this subtitle? If you’ve been following ‘Acolyte’ so far you will know that one of the biggest mysteries in the show will actually revolve around the fact that somebody is killing Jedi, hunting them down, and eliminating them.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ marks the upcoming installment in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, set to debut on Disney+ on June 4th. It promises to offer a wholly unique adventure.
Taking place during the High Republic Era, also dubbed the Golden Age of the Jedi Order due to their vast numbers, the series aims to challenge the notion that Jedi alone wield the Force for good. Showrunner Leslye Headland appears poised to explore the idea that, given the right circumstances, the Jedi can be portrayed as bad guys.
The show unexpectedly sparked controversy online, largely stemming from its female-led cast and controversial statements made by Headland regarding Star Wars lore. These controversies led to rumors circulating a few weeks ago suggesting that the show had been canceled even before its release.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, producer Rayne Roberts hinted that the show might still receive a second season:...

We're now just eight days away from the 2-episode premiere of The Acolyte, and Lucasfilm has shared another clip from the latest live-action Disney+ Star Wars series.
Last week's sneak peek saw Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) engaged in fierce combat with the mysterious warrior he believes to be his former apprentice, Mae (Amandla Stenberg), and here we see the dark-side Force-user try her hand against an equally formidable opponent in Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss).
Indara easily evades Mae's initial strikes, but it soon becomes clear that she has been well-trained, and the Jedi's foe manages to land a decent hit towards the end of the fight.
During a recent interview with Empire, The Matrix star spoke about getting the opportunity to join the Star Wars universe and reignite her passion for performing action sequences.

Nearly seven years after its release, one of the most controversial scenes in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be when Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master and veritable legend, tells the next generation about what the Jedi really represent. While training the franchise’s newest protagonist, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Mark Hamill’s now grizzled and ancient Luke intones, “The Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if you strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure; hypocrisy; hubris.”
The scene wasn’t taken well by some corners of the Star Wars fandom in 2017, and it’s not taken well now. Yet I’ve been thinking quite a bit about it in lieu of Disney+’s upcoming and hotly anticipated new Star Wars series, The Acolyte. Set many decades before the events which brought Rey and Luke Skywalker together, or for that...

Amandla Stenberg is not just starring in new Star Wars series The Acolyte, but she has also tapped into her musical side to play some of the franchise’s iconic score.
Stenberg, who has been playing the violin since she was in the third grade, recently played John Williams’ famed Star Wars score in a promotional video for the series; Williams wrote a solo violin arrangement of it just for her.
At the Los Angeles premiere of The Acolyte on Thursday, the star spoke about the experience, noting it was “one of those opportunities that I will hold with me for the rest of my entire life.”
“I listened to the score so much when we were filming, and then when Disney came to me and said ‘Hey, we’d love for you to play it,’ I thought, ‘Ok, that’s terrifying.’ But then I worked on the sheet music...

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ marks the upcoming installment in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, debuting on Disney+ on June 4th, offering a distinct and fresh adventure.
Set in the High Republic Era, often referred to as the Golden Age of the Jedi Order, the series aims to explore a different perspective. The highly anticipated Star Wars series The Acolyte officially launches on Disney+ on June 4. Still, early viewers are already flocking to social media platforms to celebrate the dark, bold, and bound-to-be-divisive series. On Thursday evening, the cast and crew celebrated the show’s early arrival with a select crowd, and the first reactions to the murder mystery set in a galaxy far, far away are pouring in. The event shared the series’ first two episodes (some journos have seen the first four), and audiences have big feelings about what could be the grittiest Star Wars saga yet.
Many of the reactions to The Acolyte are overwhelmingly positive, with viewers praising the show’s stellar performances, nail-biting action, and intriguing murder mystery plot. In particular, audiences say Amandla Sternberg, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Lee Jung-jae are sensational additions to the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4, and the first reactions from critics have started finding their way online (via SFFGazette.com).
These are made up of a mix of people who attended a splashy premiere for a screening of the two-part premiere and reviewers who were sent the first four instalments to view online. It's worth noting then that not everyone here will have been caught up in the excitement of yesterday evening's event, meaning these verdicts may hold more weight than usual.
Regardless, the reactions so far are overwhelmingly positive. It sounds like the mystery elements work well, as do The Acolyte's practical stunts and the new ways this series utilises the Force. The cast, and particularly Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae, is also praised.

For years, Lee Jung-Jae had been a star in Korea, shooting hard-hitting action films. Then, in Squid Game, he became an international breakout actor, ready to take it to the next level. And in The Acolyte, that means taking on the role of a respected Jedi Master, lightsaber and all. As Master Sol, he’s about to embark on a dark investigation into a series of shocking crimes in the Star Wars galaxy – one requiring his brain, and considerable fight skills to boot.

Showrunner Headland appears keen on exploring a narrative where the Force is not solely the domain of the Jedi, hinting at a nuanced portrayal where even they can embody darkness given the right circumstances.
Today, the social embargo for the show was lifted, allowing some fans to catch the first two (or four) episodes. Excitement was high for their reactions. While the show has sparked mixed feelings among the public, particularly due to some controversial statements by Headland, its female-led nature, the introduction of lightwhips, and other elements perceived as influenced by Dei, positive feedback is dominating the conversation.
Initial reviews commend the series for its captivating mystery,...

The show will be set during the High Republic Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jedi Order due to their overwhelming numbers, and it seems that Headland is trying to use that setting to prove that Jedi don’t have the monopoly on Force and that they too can be bad guys when context is given.
The social embargo for the show was lifted today, and some fans had the opportunity to watch the first two (or four) episodes so we were eagerly awaiting their reactions. Despite the show generating a lot of mixed reactions from the general public in the context of some weird statements made by Headland, being female-led, including lightwhips, and plenty of other stuff...

Actor Lee Jung-jae will attend the Monte-Carlo Television Festival next month for the French press launch of Lucasfilm’s latest live-action series “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” which streams on Disney+. In the show, Lee plays a Jedi Master.
It was his role in the globally successful Netflix series “Squid Game” that first catapulted Lee’s career to an international level. Starring as Seong Gi-hun (No. 456), a financially struggling father who participates in a deadly survival game, his performance earned him the Emmy Award for best actor in a drama series, a first for a non-English speaking actor.
This tremendous success significantly elevated the career of Lee, who is now considered by many as the international standard-bearer for a highly creative and avant-garde Korean culture.
In “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a series of shocking crimes pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past.

"Before the Empire, before the Menace, there was The Acolyte."
We're now just two weeks away from the premiere of the latest Disney+ live-action Star Wars series, and Lucasfilm has debuted an exciting first clip from the show along with a new TV spot.
In the extended sneak peek, we find Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) engaged in fierce combat with Mae (Amandla Stenberg), his former apprentice.
Or at least, who he believes to be his former apprentice!
Possible spoilers follow.
Based on what we can gather from recent leaks and the character name subtitle in last week's TV spot, this is not actually Mae at all, but her sister. Rumor has it that Stenberg is playing a dual role as a pair of twins, one good and one evil (the titular Acolyte), with the former blamed for her sibling's sinister actions.
The teaser also features some new footage, including...
