Charlie Hunman is headed back to TV, and in a big way. Deadline reports that the British actor will lead the upcoming Prime Video series based on Ed Brubaker‘s graphic novel series “Criminal.” He joins a cast that already includes Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison. So will Hunman supply the onscreen magic that helped make FX‘s “Sons Of Anarchy” such a smash hit, or will “Criminal” be more like the actor’s last stint in television, the short-lived Apple TV+ series “Shantaram“?

Exclusive: Kadeem Hardison has been set as a series regular in Ed Brubaker’s Prime Video graphic novel series Criminal. He joins the previously announced cast Adria Arjona and Richard Jenkins.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
Hardison will portray the character Gnarly, an old friend of Leo and Ivan. Gnarly was his nickname as a boxer back in the 1970s and it’s all anyone calls him. He walks with a limp, an old one. Back in January, the news broke that a series based on Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Eisner Award-winning comic book, Criminal, is in development for Amazon Prime Video, and the project has now added another lead cast member.
Joining Richard Jenkins as Ivan will be Adria Arjona as Greta Watson (they appear to have dropped a "t" from the character's first name for some reason).
This take on Greta is described as “a sharp-tongued top-level car thief and driver and the widowed mother of Angie. Ever since her husband died in a bank job gone bad, Greta has been battling with herself about how to escape the only life she’s ever known – and the only place she’s ever thrived. Richard Linklater’s decade-spanning masterwork Boyhood introduced the world to the concept of a Beatles “Black Album.” In that 2014 film, Ethan Hawke’s Mason Evans Sr. presents a personally curated album of the rock band’s solo tracks to his son on the child’s 15th birthday. Mason Sr. explains the impossibility of picking a favorite Beatle because the beauty of their artistry lies in their balance. The curatorial act of synergizing the sensational, the spiritual, the sensual, and the sentimental elevates them all.
The same logic that applies to the Fab Four also works as a description for Linklater himself. The Austin-based filmmaker remains one of American cinema’s most versatile artisans, as comfortable helming a mass-market studio comedy as he is a talky indie drama. No matter the form his output takes, it bears his trademark stamp of wisdom and wonder that’s been evident since his 1991 breakout...

Hollywood heartthrob Glen Powell and Puerto Rican actress Adria Arjona recently collaborated on their first movie together: A comedy-action masterpiece titled Hit Man. And, unarguably enough, the duo share some undeniable chemistry onscreen that has fans swooning in commendation. In fact, even the intimate scenes they shot together look as though they were real.

But that’s hardly the case when you get to know the behind-the-scenes fiasco, especially for those particular intimate scenes. Why? Well, because what these two fan-favorite actors had to go through just to shoot those scenes must have been nothing short of hell, considering how they were in “so much pain;” learning about which would change your thoughts on those scenes being sexy at all.

Glen Powell got to play "a lot of different characters" in 'Hit Man'.The 35-year-old actor stars in the leading role of Gary Johnson, college professor and tech guy turned undercover mole, in the new action romcom and explained that the role gave him the "greatest joy" because of how many different dynamics he got to explore on set.He told ScreenRant: "I get to play a lot of different characters in this movie. It's obviously for an actor, it's the greatest joy to just show up and literally do what you do when you're a kid, which is just put on costumes and accents and big teeth and play pretend. The 'Anyone But You' star is joined on screen by Adria Arjona as his character's love interest and noted that it every day he got to work with her had been made a "better day" when...

With the box office being in dire straits, I feel a little awkward telling you to stay home and watch stuff on Netflix. Anyway, stay home and watch stuff on Netflix!
All kidding aside, summer is bearing down upon us, and that means unbearable, scorching hot temperatures. (Thanks global warming!) So, what better way to burn though your free time than by plopping yourself down in an air-conditioned theater and checking out the latest releases? After a relatively slow start to the year, June looks to turn things up a notch with some notable tentpoles. Tragically, however, you can't spend all of your non-working hours at the multiplex -- not even for the "Lord of the Rings" re-release.
That being the case, I've selected some top picks among the titles coming to Netflix in June, all of which can be enjoyed without leaving your living room (or whatever room(s...

"What's better than this? Glen Powell wearing a bunch of goofy wigs?" That seems to be the question at the heart of "Hit Man," Richard Linklater's extremely breezy comedy about a guy who pretends to murder people. Based on a true story, "Hit Man" coasts on Powell's good looks and charm. With his square jaw and affable manner, it's easy to like Powell, and watching his recent rise to stardom has been fun. Here, he gets his juiciest role to date, and the fact that Powell co-wrote the script with Linklater seems to suggest this is him seizing his big moment; his chance to show the world what he can do. "Not only am I a handsome leading man," Powell is ready to proclaim here, "but I can also do silly voices!" It's fun, it's charming, it's a little too slight for its own good. By the time the end credits rolled,...

Adria Arjona and Glen Powell may have some very steamy scenes in “Hit Man,” but filming them was anything but sexy.
It all went wrong when they were shooting in a bathtub and someone added Dawn dish washing soap to the water. “That strips you of all your oils of your skin,” Arjona says on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “That’s used for baby ducks when there’s an oil spill for God’s sake. We soaked in this bathtub for an hour and I get out of the tub and all of a sudden I dry myself and I can’t bend my knees because I have no oils.”

In the new Netflix film Hit Man, Glen Powell plays Gary Johnson, a mild-mannered college professor who has a mind for electronics. He occasionally helps out the local police department by recording sting operations on people trying to hire a hitman. When he’s forced into pretending to be one, he finds that he’s got quite a knack for it.
When he meets a young woman named Madison (Adria Arjona) who tries to hire his hit man alter ego, it sets up a series of events that will put lives in danger. Directed by Richard Linklater and written by Linklater and Powell, Hit Man is based on the Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth about a real-life person who had a similar double life.

It’s taken a while for Glen Powell to truly step into the spotlight. After popping up in the likes of Hidden Figures, Set It Up and Everybody Wants Some!! (the last his first collaboration with Richard Linklater), it was 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick that saw him really take flight, giving an unforgettably hissable-yet-heroic performance as Lt Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin. Major turns have come since — box-office-busting romcom Anyone But You and another aviation adventure, Devotion — but it is with Hit Man that Powell announces himself as a movie star and a filmmaking force to be reckoned with.
Inspired by the true story of teacher-turned-pretend-assassin Gary Johnson (as reported by journalist Skip Hollandsworth in a 2001 article for Texas Monthly), Hit Man sees Powell re-team with Linklater, this time on a deeper creative level as co-writer. It takes the real-life nugget of Gary’s unusual side-hustle and expands it into a tale of murder,...

Glen Powell is swiftly heading to the top of the list of Hollywood’s hottest hotshots with his projects like Anyone but You, and his upcoming presumed smash hits like Hit Man and Twisters are already paving the way for more fame for him. That said, besides these two, he has a further recently released project: The Blue Angels.

But still, to promote it, Powell has an epic trick up his sleeve that could perfectly boost the documentary’s viewership chances. And this trick has something to do with how he and Sydney Sweeney boosted their sleeper hit together from December last year.

If there’s anything superhero movies try to stay away from over the past years, it’s the exhibition of s*x scenes. The majority of comic book films don’t show this type of mature theme as it would affect the rating and viewership.

This is the dilemma of renowned director Richard Linklater when it comes to creating movies. The lack of intimate scenes in superhero films has swiftly become the trend in Hollywood.

Director Richard Linklater rues that Hollywood has taken to creating sexless characters and superheroes without genitalia.
The writer/director of films including the Before trilogy and Boyhood is behind Netflix’s Hit Man, one of the standout successes at last year’s Venice Film Festival. Linklater calls the movie, starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, a “sexy crime thriller meets screwball comedy” and says the plot hinges on Arjanoa’s character Maddy being “the one he will risk everything for, just to sleep with her.”
Linklater told The Times of London: “Sex and violence is what cinema is great at. Sex was always the great seller; I don’t know why they backed off from that. Hollywood started feeding this new generation characters that were sexless. Superheroes don’t have sex. They don’t have genitalia, frankly.”

Arjona referenced the recent “summer of Glen Powell” headlines, which refer to the 35-year-old starring in Hit Man (which has a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and then, a month later, the highly anticipated sequel Twisters.

Glen Powell remained the king of grassroots publicity at an Austin, Texas, screening of his new Netflix movie, Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man.” The leading man hit the red carpet at the event accompanied by his family, but his mother and father decided to troll their son with signs directed at the press line that read: “Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen” and “It’s never gonna happen.”

The Hit Man star takes aim as her career levels up
Adria Arjona knows just how scary it can be to meet your heroes. One of her all-time favourite movies is School Of Rock, and when she first met Richard Linklater, not even the relative safety of a Zoom call could save her. “My hands were sweaty,” she admits to Empire. “I was really trying to play it cool and that lasted for about ten minutes.”
After a series of supporting turns in genre fare, crime dramas (True Detective), and recently as the forthright Bix in Andor, the 31-year-old actor is stepping into fresh territory with Linklater’s romcom HitMan. Alongside Glen Powell, she stars as Madison, a housewife with a controlling husband who falls for the contract killer (Powell) she hires to take him out. The only problem: her new boyfriend is actually working undercover for the police as a fake hitman.
