My Forgotten Man
Based on a novel by Eric Hatch originally called '1101 Park Avenue', immaculately photographed by Ted Tetzlaff and generally considered the apex of the thirties screwball genre.
We learn little of Bill Powell's origins in the enigmatic title role (inevitably far more urbane and articulate than any genuine hobo to be found in the village of forgotten men in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge). As immaculate as it's hero and as sleek and glamorous as it's women, beneath it's glittering facade 'My Man Godfrey' actually remains throughout sternly bleak and glacial in it's view of human nature in general and the rich in particular.
