Jerry Seinfeld has been a recognized comedy star since the early ‘90s, but he has some concerns about modern audiences no longer being interested in watching comedies on their televisions just like what they used to do back in the day.

Not only did he blame the advancement of technologies, but he also pointed out how people often police comedy lines and jokes thrown on-air. This simply means that everything they say on screen can either make or break their career due to the rise of cancel culture.

Jerry Seinfeld said in an interview with The New Yorker while touting his feature directorial effort “Unfrosted” that “P.C. crap” and the “extreme left” is making television comedy go extinct. Seinfeld is a sitcom icon thanks to his eponymous NBC sitcom that ran between 1989 and 1998, but he says viewers no longer flock to their television sets in order to get their comedy fix like they did for decades.
“Nothing really affects comedy. People always need it. They need it so badly and they don’t get it,” Seinfeld said. “It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ‘Oh, “Cheers” is on. Oh, “Mash” is on. Oh, “Mary Tyler Moore” is on. “All in the Family” is on.’ You just expected, ‘There’ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight.’ Well, guess what—where is it? This...

Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a parody that was done right. You don’t even have to go past the first 10 minutes of the anime to know that it is a Harry Potter rip-off. But its adorable (dumb) protagonist makes it stand out from any other parody or comedy series.
Honestly, how many series have you watched that have visibly taken so many elements from a famous franchise and still managed to become famous? From the muscle-headed Mash to his equally silly friends, the anime does not miss a single beat to make you laugh.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the major similarities between Mashle and Harry Potter that stare you in the face.

Plot: When a signal from an uncharted area of Hollow Earth riles up Godzilla, Monarch’s team has to investigate, while Kong discovers a lost society which may give him the home he’s long desired.
Review: This holiday weekend sees the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which marks the fifth film in Warners and Legendary’s Monsterverse saga, which, to be sure, has been very hit-and-miss. For every Kong: Skull Island, there’s an entry that leaves us scratching our heads with its shared universe, mostly related to the evil company Monarch, which recently got its own show on Apple TV Plus. Interestingly, this universe has never been tremendously successful with audiences. WB would have likely thrown in the towel were it not that Godzilla Vs Kong was a surprise smash at the box office. As far as conspiracy theories go, very few have had as much of a life as the notion that NASA faked the Apollo moon landing. In some ways, one can understand why people felt this way, as it was one of the most critical events in human history, and the only witness was a TV camera. Back then, people distrusted anything they couldn’t see with their own eyes. In the seventies, conspiracy theories started to get famous, especially as far as the government went, with this the era of Watergate. People no longer trusted authority, and into this fraught environment came Capricorn One, a sci-fi-tinged conspiracy thriller that was one of the most popular films of 1977 but has since been largely forgotten – save for a small cult of devoted fans.

Hank Bradford, head writer for “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers,” died Jan. 18 in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure, his family said. He was 88.
Bradford served as Carson’s head writer from 1970-75.
“As head writer on The Tonight Show, he was admired and beloved by his fellow writers for both his pitch-perfect sense of humor and his relatively-sane leadership style in a job (and profession) which tended toward the weird and chaotic,” Bradford’s family said in a prepared obituary. “Above his desk at The Tonight Show was a sign that read: ‘It left here funny.’”
Bradford later served as head writer for “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers” between 1986 and 1987. He also wrote episodes for “Mash” and “Three’s Company.”

A beautiful, if flawed, counterculture epic, Arthur Penn’s 1970 film has the sweep of a Dickens novel and the sardonic humor of an Altman movie (Mash was released that same year). Dustin Hoffman is Jack Crabb—a white man raised by the Cheyenne and nearly killed by Custer. Hoffman’s Everyman performance is superb but the movie’s heart and soul belongs to Chief Dan George, a down-to-earth mystic and natural born comedian.

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?
In October 1947, 10 Hollywood screenwriters, directors and producers refused to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee (Huac), at the highly publicized, three-ring circus hearings in Washington, D.C. They wouldn’t acknowledge if they were Communists, nor would they name names of people whom they knew or thought were Commies citing their first amendment rights.
The group, who became known as the Hollywood Ten, were voted in contempt of Congress in November and sentenced to prison for six months to a year. They were blacklisted by the Hollywood studios. Some wrote under pseudonyms or used fronts (check out the 1976 film “The Front”) while others never worked again in Hollywood even after the blacklist ended in 1960.

Every year, Strictly Come Dancing brings its yearly spook-fest back to the dance floor.
By now, we’ve seen hundreds of dancers take part in the themed competition week, hoping to impress the judges with routines that are less trick, more treat.
For fans, Halloween is one of the biggest nights in the Strictly calendar. Design-wise, it doesn’t get more extra than this, with the perfect performance featuring a spooky costume and song choice that are well linked together. However, it’s not always easy and we often see a slightly spooky song title pushed together with a random costume that doesn’t exactly make sense or scream Halloween. After all, there are only so many times the show can do the “Monster Mash”.

When one delves into the mythology of Stephen King's epically long 1986 novel "It," you might find a massively complicated Theogony of deities that link into numerous ancient creation myths. According to King's novel, the titular creature, most commonly known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, was originally born of the enormous, ineffable void that surrounds the outer edges of the known cosmos. The novel refers to this void at the Macroverse, although in King's "Dark Tower" novels, the same void is called the Todash Darkness. A rogue meteor somehow picked up the creature and it traveled to planet Earth while it was still forming and humans hadn't evolved yet. For millions of years, It slumbered, eventually emerging in Ad 1715 to begin feeding on the local citizens. It's implied that It is billions of years old, and It can be a clown or a spider or whatever you're most afraid of.

The best Halloween dances bring all these elements together, from design, to music, to (naturally) the actual dancing. Among this top 10 we have a lot of tangos,...

Orlando Bloom may be wide awake after viewing Katy Perry's latest TikTok. On Aug. 4, the American Idol judge took to the social media platform to play an innocent game of Mash, which aims to predict your future life. When playing, users discover the house, car, number of kids and lover they could have sooner rather than later. No problem, right? For Katy, she discovered a castle, Tesla and six kids are in her future. As for her lover, it's none other than Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson. "No offense @Kim Kardashian (and Orlando?)" she wrote on TikTok as Cyn's "House With a View" played in the background. For the record, Katy and...

Burt Metcalfe, the revered TV producer who worked on all 11 seasons of “Mash,” died July 27 in Los Angeles. He was 87.
Metcalfe was an actor turned director-producer who was recruited to work on “Mash” by director Gene Reynolds, who launched the series adaptation of Robert Altman’s 1970 black comedy released by 20th Century Fox. Metcalfe started out as an associate producer and rose to showrunner for the show’s final six seasons. He also directed 31 episodes of the series’ 251 installments.
Reynolds, who was with “Mash” through the 1976-77 season before moving on to the helm of CBS’ “Lou Grant,” died at age 96 in February 2020.
The CBS series adaptation defied low expectations for movie adaptations and became pop culture touchstone of the 1970s and early ’80s. Set during the Korean War, Alan Alda starred as Col. Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce, a cynical surgeon with a heart of gold who helped run a mobile...

Emmy voters certainly didn’t spread the wealth around with the 2022 nominations. Five of the seven supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie went to HBO’s “The White Lotus.” Four of the six guest actor in a drama series noms were nabbed by HBO’s “Succession.” And HBO Max’s “Hacks” scored four of the six guest actress in a comedy series nominations.
But multiple nominations in one category isn’t anything new in the Emmy universe. In fact, Emmy history was made 40 years ago when NBC’s landmark police procedural drama “Hill Street Blues” earned all five nominations for supporting actor in a drama series. Michael Conrad won his second consecutive Emmy as Sgt. Phil Esterhaus, who would end the morning roll call meetings with “Let’s be careful out there.” Conrad faced competition from the series’ Taurean Blacque, Charles Haid, Michael Warren and Bruce Weitz.

Film history places certain artists at pivotal points where everything changes – and sometimes, if those artists stick around long enough, when everything changes again.
Considering the passing of James Caan on Wednesday, it becomes clear that he was one of those artists. An actor who had an early breakthrough appearing opposite Olivia de Havilland, he went on to take key roles in films that would define the New Hollywood of the 1970s and played a role in the emergence of auteurs like Wes Anderson, James Gray and Michael Mann.
Born in the Bronx to German-Jewish immigrant parents, Caan played college football at Michigan State for two years before transferring to Hofstra. He never graduated, but he did befriend classmate Francis Ford Coppola, who would be one of the actor’s most essential collaborators. It was at Hofstra that Caan became interested in acting, eventually applying to and being accepted at...

It’s no secret that Asians are woefully underrepresented in American Cinema, but that thinking has started to shift in the last few years. This is especially true afer the majority-Asian cast Crazy Rich Asians became the most successful rom-com in decades. According to Vice.com, there are a slew of blockbuster movies coming out soon with Asian lead characters. We’re even about to see our first Asian Marvel Super Hero. In the past, Hollywood has seen backlash for constantly whitewashing films, removing Asian actors from source materials and casting white Americans to take their places. It seems that Hollywood is starting to see the power of the Asian American market. Here are 6 Asian actors who have appeared in gambling and casino movies over the years.

Parasite is entering its 7th week in Us release so let's marvel at its success once again, but this time in the context of Palme d'Or winners. Parasite is just one notch away from being the 10 highest grossing Cannes winner of all time (at least as far as contemporary box office reporting goes). It's already the most successful Palme d'Or winner of all time among the non-English language winners.
Box office figures aren't readily available before the 1970s so we started in 1970 -- there are a few winners since then with no Us box office results which means they either weren't ever released in the Us or were somehow not reported. It's also worth noting that these numbers are not adjusted for inflation so we're assuming that either Mash or Apocalypse Now which bookended the 1970s would actually top the list as the highest grossing Palme d'Or winner ever. Figures are only domestic (USA) totals.

Elliott Gould is an actor that has no shortage of films with incredible filmmakers under his belt. Perhaps, none are better than Robert Altman and Steven Soderbergh. The former featured Gould in films like “Mash” and “Nashville,” while the latter has put the actor in all the ‘Ocean’s’ films, as well as “Contagion.” And in Gould’s mind, he thinks that Soderbergh might be the best director to take over the reins on a potential franchise started by Altman.

Robert Altman’s freewheeling La-set mystery “The Long Goodbye” arrived in 1973 like a cigarette in the eye of detective-story conventions. Based on Raymond Chandler’s pulp novel, the film also announced the leading-man status of the idiosyncratic Elliott Gould, who plays world-weary, boozy, chain-smoking gumshoe Philip Marlowe. Gould previously starred in Robert Altman’s 1970 Palme d’Or winner “Mash” and earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for 1969’s “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.”
During a wide-ranging Q&a following a 35mm screening of “The Long Goodbye” at Los Angeles’ genre film festival Beyond Fest at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, Gould discussed his many iconic collaborations — from Altman to Ingmar Bergman (1971’s “The Touch”) and Steven Soderbergh, for whom Gould starred in the “Ocean’s” films as well as “Contagion.”

A group of friends hang out in a bar. It’s a typical sitcom setup. But “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has never been typical — and FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier can attest to that. He was one of the executives “laughing our asses off” a decade and a half ago at a screening of the show’s pilot.
“I think what was so great about it was that it was an alternative version of a sitcom, where you had these crazy characters that said and did all things totally politically incorrectly,” he says. “But there was a smarter understanding behind the show. They were dealing with societal issues, so there was this great combination of a highbrow side of it masked with a very broad-based lowbrow side.”

Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story screens here at the Venice Film Festival today, laying bare one couple’s divorce while also keeping love in the picture. “Even though they are coming apart through the movie, love always exists. It’s in every scene with them,” Baumbach told the press corps this afternoon of the Netflix title that’s produced by David Heyman.
The couple in question, stage director Charlie (Adam Driver) and actress Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) is seen through a journey that includes dark drama, screwball comedy, legal procedural and even show-stopping musical. It’s also a very personal, yet expansive, story about which Baumbach had early conversations with the actors before a script was written.
Asked about prep for Marriage Story, Johansson said, “Because there’s so much of all of us, I think, in this film that’s out there for everyone to see, to talk about the source is very personal.

Six decades into his career, Stacy Keach is finally receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 78-year-old actor muscled into notoriety playing everyone from Hamlet to Hemingway to Mike Hammer. When the New York Times spotted the then-27-year-old up-and-comer in “Henry IV,” it gushed that his “superb” Falstaff was “so freshly observed that it is almost a new character.”
In the late 1960s, Keach was hailed as America’s Laurence Olivier — right when the country decided it didn’t need one. His agent, the powerhouse Sue Mengers, gave him the truth: “Come out of your ivory tower. Forget the classics. Get to Hollywood.”
He obeyed, and today Keach is best-known for playing heavyweights who tend to kill and be killed on film and TV, where the camera can closely observe his intimidating build, defining harelip and what Elia Kazan called “a sense of violence behind the eyes that’s not housebroken.

The Emmys marked the final season of Game of Thrones with 32 nominations, including many first-time nods for the cast.
It seems the backlash against Game of Thrones has not reached Emmy voters yet this year. It also received nominations that might be less controversial with social media critics for much of its cast. Bong Jong-ho’s “Parasite” followed its Palme d’or win this weekend with a South Korean home country debut of $25 million. That represented close to 70% of the total national business — and on a weekend that also saw “Aladdin” in its second weekend and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” opening (to only a little over $2 million there).
To put that in perspective based on population size compared to the Us/Canada domestic total, that would be similar to a nearly $200 million debut here. The initial number looks to have come close to the record for biggest opener ever.
The Cannes winner — recognized locally as a major honor for the country and industry, with Bong treated to a hero’s welcome when he arrived at the Seoul airport — is a rare Palme victor to have this sort of immediate local response. But it is also only a difference in degree for Bong...

The Cannes Film Festival is the most prestigious event of its kind the entire world over. The festival’s top prize – the Palme d’Or, or “Golden Palm” – is perhaps the highest honor given out in the film industry when all is said and done. Frequently likened to a “Nobel Prize for Film,” the Palm d’Or recognizes the very best of international filmmaking, and has been won by films as diverse as Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013), The Tree of Life (2011), Pulp Fiction (1994), Kagemusha (1980), Apocalypse Now (1979), Taxi Driver (1976), The Conversation (1974) and Mash (1970).

When Christopher Abbott walked into the audition room to read for the lead role in “Catch-22,” George Clooney greeted him wearing a leather helmet.
“I took a breath a little bit,” Abbott says. “I wasn’t as nervous. I was like, ‘All right, we can play.’”
The icebreaker worked. Abbott landed the role of Capt. John Yossarian, the bombardier antihero of Joseph Heller’s novel “Catch-22,” who spends the entirety of the story trying his damnedest to get out of World War II. The helmet was one of several that Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov keep around their Smokehouse Pictures office in Los Angeles — relics from “Leatherheads,” the 2008 feature that was Clooney’s third outing as a director, which he calls “one of our big flops.”

Alan Alda is set to receive the Screen Actors Guild’s Life Achievement Award during the 25th Annual SAG Awards on Jan. 27 from Tom Hanks: a canny tribute to career excellence passing between one generation’s most beloved actor and the next. But unlike Hanks, whose off-screen goodness is repeatedly and almost without exception reinforced in the roles he chooses, Alda insists that he devoted considerable professional effort throughout his career to testing audience’s sympathies, even if the effort proved unsuccessful in challenging the likability that’s become synonymous with his name.
“I’ve played people who were either villains or they weren’t totally nice guys at least half the time through my life, and every time I play one somebody says, ‘boy, you’ve never done that before,’” Alda says. “So I must have covered America with the slime of my amiability a little more than I thought I would.

Are “Green Room” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” Best Picture Oscar favorites because they won the Golden Globes’ top prizes? Maybe.
Or maybe not.
Though the Globes have been considered a leading bellwether for the Academy Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have agreed to disagree numerous times in major categories over the past 75 years.
In fact, the very first Golden Globes ceremony selected the religious drama “The Song of Bernadette” as the best film of 1943, while the Oscar for best picture went to the beloved “Casablanca.”
Even last year, Guillermo del Toro’s romantic fantasy “The Shape of Water” won four Oscars including best film and director. But the Globes chose “Lady Bird” for best picture musical or comedy and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” won best drama. Del Toro did win the Globe for director.
