While war movies are always hard to watch, especially when you know they are based on real events that took place decades ago and there are families that have never recovered from their losses, it is an extremely important genre that shows its viewers the horrors and devastation that any military conflict brings.
What makes these films so interesting from an industry perspective is the technical detail, costume and set design, CGI and editing that takes the picture to another level and makes it feel realistic. When amazing storytelling meets great execution, you get masterpieces like Casualties of War.
What Is Casualties of War About?
Directed by Brian De Palma, Casualties of War chronicles the events of the 1966 Hill 192 incident during the Vietnam War, one of many crimes committed by the U.S. Army against Vietnamese civilians. Starring Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn, the film tells the story through the eyes of a veteran.

Being recognized as the king of crime movies replete with violence, razor-sharp dialogues and allusions to pop culture entities, Quentin Tarantino inscribed his name in movie history. Almost all of his films are recognized both by critics and the audience.
However, there was a movie that became overshadowed by the success of Pulp Fiction (1994) and then by the Kill Bill saga (2003 - 2004). It appears to be the only movie of Tarantino that was adapted from a novel, Elmore Leonard’s one titled Rum Punch.
The film’s plot revolves around Jackie, a flight attendant, who is caught by the duo of an agent and a detective while she was heading to bring the money to her boss. The latter is in fact an arms dealer who is hunted by those two, and the woman is asked for help.
Instead of cooperating with them or going to prison, Jackie decides to...

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood. The maverick director is known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill franchise. He is known for his particular brand of violent entertainers with a tribute to the films and TV shows he grew up with in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
In 2008, the filmmaker made one of his best-reviewed works Inglorious Basterds. The film saw a group of US soldiers infiltrating Nazi Germany during the Second World War. While Tarantino approached the subject with a revisionist history lens, he reportedly also wrote a segment in the original script that he wanted to turn into a spinoff film called Killer Crow.

People don’t always like to share their emotional issues because they are misjudged as weak or even made fun of by their peers. Being vulnerable around others is so hard, right? I see this in the film The Listener. Beth, a helpline counselor, takes calls throughout the night from people who are scared, lonely, humiliated, or even on the brink of suicide. They just want someone to validate their feelings and stop them. They just need to know someone is there for them, listening. That can feel like such a relief, right? But we also see Beth’s own pain. She hides so many feelings from the world. Can Beth help them all, or even herself? She’s there to listen to their pain, but she can’t save everyone, right? Humans are hard to understand, and sometimes being misunderstood can influence them to make some bad decisions in life.

In one of the greatest Hollywood controversies of the modern era, the mega-producer Harvey Weinstein was tried and found guilty in court. His frequent collaborator, Quentin Tarantino came under fire for his decades-long association and friendship with the producer. And yet, there was no evidence to the contrary to be collected against Tarantino.

At 29 years old, Quentin Tarantino made his directorial debut with "Reservoir Dogs." With its punchy pacing and electric performances, it was a brash, violent film that put him on the map as an audacious new storyteller. From his humble beginnings as a Video Archives store clerk to the script landing in Harvey Keitel's hands, Tarantino was able to raise $1.5 million to make the movie and debut it at the Sundance Film Festival.
Duane Byrge from The Hollywood Reporter covered the overwhelming audience response to the searing film: "[T]his plug gutter is wiping out audiences here at the Sundance Film Festival. Those who survive it emerge in a shell-shocked euphoria — so good and so blunt is the writing." Miramax won the subsequent bidding war, but although distribution was secured, the road to release was rocky. On January 22, 2000, writer/director Karyn Kusama‘s feature debut “Girlfight” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and, like “sex, lies, and videotape” and “Reservoir Dogs” before it, announced the arrival of a born filmmaker. Kusama has gone on to direct a wide array of great films and television episodes, including the once underrated but now properly exalted horror movie “Jennifer’s Body” and her searing masterpiece “Destroyer,” but “Girlfight” holds its own against Kusama’s later, more well-resourced work — her tale of a troubled teenager (a then-unknown Michelle Rodriguez) who channels her aggression into boxing has held up beautifully thanks to Kusama’s intensely personal investment in the story and her instinctive awareness of where to place the camera to tell that story with maximum impact.

A man accused of randomly punching film and TV star Steve Buscemi has been arrested and charged, according to the New York Police.
NYPD identified the suspect as 50-year-old homeless man Clifton Williams. He is charged with second-degree assault. The crime is a class D felony and carries a possible sentence of seven years in prison. Assault in the second degree is also classified as a violent felony, and a judge is required to impose a minimum sentence of two years in prison.
The 66-year-old Buscemi was punched last week as he walked in the Kips Bay area of Manhattan. The Boardwalk Empire and Sopranos star sustained a black eye and bleeding in the May 8 ambush, police said.
Law enforcement sources said Williams changed his appearance and fled Manhattan as Buscemi was treated at a hospital.
Buscemi was the latest celebrity to suffer a random attack on New York City streets.

Buscemi, 66, was reported by the New York Post to have been walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood on Manhattan’s East side last week when a man walked up and struck him.
The broad-daylight attack is just one of the celebrity incidents that have happened over the last few years. Comic actor Rick Moranis, Michael Stuhlbarg (who was in the show Boardwalk Empire with Buscemi), and reality star Bethenny Frankel are among those similarly victimized.

Quentin Tarantino felt that he could have directed Wes Craven’s Scream. He took some shots at Craven’s version of the story. However, Tarantino admitted that he was terrified by one of Craven’s earlier films when he was a child.
Quentin Tarantino felt Wes Craven stopped ‘Scream’ from achieving its potential
During a 2015 interview with Vulture, Tarantino was asked if he wanted to direct any franchise movies. “I could have imagined doing the first Scream,” he said. “The Weinsteins were trying to get Robert Rodriguez to do it. I don’t even think they thought I would be interested.” For context, Rodriguez has worked with Tarantino on multiple occasions. Most famously, they each directed a film from the double feature Grindhouse.

Being one of the best modern filmmakers with his personal zest that makes his movies stand out, Quentin Tarantino has received numerous accolades for his work in the industry throughout the years of his long-standing career, though not many may know that he actually wasn’t that much recognised for one of his finest scripts.
This fact may indeed come as something surprising given that all of the director’s movies have become a cult classic, but the point here is that Tarantino never got to direct what could’ve been his most brilliant film.
Back in the 1990s Tarantino was yet an unknown, but ambitious aspiring director whose career was put on hold due to the fact that he didn’t have too much money. Exclusive: Faye Dunaway (Bonnie & Clyde), Harvey Keitel (Bugsy) and Andrew McCarthy (The Blacklist) have signed on to star in Fate, a suspenseful, supernatural romance that will launch international sales via Highland Film Group at Cannes.
Set to enter production in Vancouver this month, the film’s plot is under wraps, though its key location, the fictional Vista hotel, is said to draw inspiration from the iconic Los Angeles movie theater of the same name, which filmmaker Quentin Tarantino refurbished in 2022. Jonathan Baker is directing and producing the project, which has been in development for five years, and tells Deadline, “there is an excellent chance it will stand as one of the most memorable love stories of our time.”
Known for iconic turns in films like Bonnie & Clyde and Chinatown, Dunaway comes to Fate after collaborating with Baker on his debut feature Inconceivable, a 2017 thriller also starring Gina Gershon, Nicky Whelan and Nicolas Cage.

Quentin Tarantino did not go to film school, he did not even graduate from high school – his only real teachers were the movies themselves.
In 1988, he wrote Reservoir Dogs, a crime thriller about criminals who gather in an abandoned warehouse after a botched robbery. Reservoir Dogs was released in 1992 and immediately put Tarantino's name in the history of cinema. Reservoir Dogs was followed by other hits – Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill – each of which became cult in its own way.
Stephen King Says Kill Bill is Dull
However, Stephen King disagrees with the cult status of one of these movies, speaking rather harshly about Kill Bill:
“The blah movie was Kill Bill. […] Kill Bill isn't a benchmark of awfulness like Mars Attacks! or Mommie Dearest, it's just dully full of itself.”
In an Entertainment Weekly article, the writer discussed movies that matter and movies that don't. According to King,...

Foxy Brown may be the meanest chick in town and Coffy the baddest one-chick hit squad that ever hit it, but Pam Grier is one of the most down-to-earth actresses on the planet. Still going 50 years into her career, Grier has worked with some premiere directors, most of whom wanted to collaborate because they were fans of her iconic work in the ‘70s. Take John Carpenter and Quentin Tarantino, for example, who directed Grier in 1996’s Escape from L.A. and the next year’s Jackie Brown, respectively. But who does Pam Grier prefer when it comes to these genre-loving filmmakers? Oh, she knows what’s goin’ down!

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction has been overturned by New York’s top appeals court.
After an appeal process, the court found there were “egregious errors” committed in the original trial, according to the Associated Press, including the court’s allowance of testimony from three women speaking to “uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts” that were unrelated to the rape charge. The argument from Weinstein’s side is that the Miramax founder could not take the stand in his defense on the actual charges without also being cross-examined on the uncharged accusations.
The New York Court of Appeals vote was a close one: Weinstein’s conviction was overturned 4-3.
“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes,” the majority decision said. “The remedy for these egregious errors is a new trial.

Very few filmmakers have achieved what Quentin Tarantino has in his years in the film industry. Despite his films often igniting controversies, the filmmaker and his unique works have always remained on top of Hollywood. The man knows how to push boundaries to the perfect limits to give cinema fanatics something raw every time and Pulp Fiction was no different.
Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction
Whether it was the use of violence or the taboo topic of drugs, Pulp Fiction was not without controversy. Still, the film made waves at the box office and found a place in the audience’s hearts, establishing itself as a classic. Even legendary actor Bruce Willis couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the script as he tried everything in his power to convince Quentin Tarantino to make him a part of the film.

After the tremendous success of season 1 of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is all set to reprise her iconic titular role for the second season. But this second season seems to be a bit more special because, besides Ortega’s return, some new actors will also join the cast. This includes Thandiwe Newton, the actress renowned for playing the role of Nyah Nordoff-Hall in Mission: Impossible 2.
Wednesday is being renewed for season 2.
According to the latest reports, Newton is the most recent actor cast in season 2 of the spooky Netflix series. And since this piece of news — which comes after reports of Steve Buscemi’s casting in the show — hasn’t specified what character she would portray, the actress has gotten under massive speculation among fans on just what role she could be playing in the saga.

After several decades of long-standing and astonishingly successful career, John Travolta may be one of the most renowned actors in modern Hollywood, but back in the 1990s he could’ve lost it all after a bunch of significant box office flops.
Travolta’s reputation was quickly restored after he made an appearance in a cult movie of that decade — and he owes this incredible stroke of luck to his knowledge about finance management.
Travolta recently attended the TCM Classic Film Festival that also happened to be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Tarantino’s iconic crime film Pulp Fiction. Being reunited with many of his Pulp Fiction colleagues like Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Harvey Keitel, Travolta got yet another chance to reminisce about the movie and how he made his way to it.

Quentin Tarantino has been a voice of authority in the film industry for decades. His opinions may not always be popular, but they always command respect.
It's almost impossible to remember a time before his innovative style of filmmaking, with its witty dialogue, stylized violence and non-linear narratives. But back in the early 90s, he was an unknown trying to make his way in the film world.
It all started at a barbecue?
In 1992, Quentin Tarantino burst onto the movie scene with a heist movie that was the result of a chance meeting with producer Lawrence Bender at a barbecue. He completed the first draft in less than a month and, after impressing Bender, was able to secure financing to move the project forward.
And so, Reservoir Dogs was born.

Over the decades, vampire movies have made a star of many a young actor, from Kirsten Dunst to Kirsten Stewart. Soon, the same should be said of Ireland’s Alisha Weir, who at 13 years old, held Universal’s monster movie Abigail on her highly capable shoulders.
In the film from Radio Silence, which hits theaters today, Weir is introduced as Abigail, a ballerina enthusiast taken captive by a band of criminals seeking a $50 million ransom from her crime boss father. Brought onto the job Reservoir Dogs style by a figure named Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito), the gang soon realizes they’re in far over their head, as it’s revealed that what they believed to be their safe house is not so safe at all. No ordinary girl, Abigail is in fact a vampire who’ll make a game of picking them off one by one.

Quentin Tarantino was nowhere to be found in the Tcl Chinese Theater on Thursday night, but his brilliance was a constant topic of conversation as Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Harvey Keitel reunited on stage to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Pulp Fiction.”
The 15th annual TCM Classic Film Festival kicked off with a 35mm screening of Tarantino’s landmark sophomore film, which won the 1994 Palme d’Or and led the filmmaker to his first Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. From the moment the film was announced a year ago, “Abigail” has been marketed as a remake of “Dracula’s Daughter,” the 1936 Universal Pictures curio. So it’s no spoiler to say that the title character of “Abigail” is…Dracula’s daughter. Yet if you went in not knowing that, it might be the only real surprise in the movie, apart from what a brutally monotonous blood-vomiting genre mashup it is.
For a while, we think we’re watching a standard kidnap thriller. It opens with Abigail (Alisha Weir), who is 12, on the ballet stage rehearsing “Swan Lake,” a most definite vampire homage, since Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous heart-swelling score is the same music that played over the opening credits of the 1931 Bela Lugosi “Dracula.” That lyrical entré ends in about three minutes, as the kidnappers, all overstated profane synthetic crudeness, jam themselves into a van and abscond with Abigail, who they...

For 40 years, the Sundance Film Festival has been the United States' preeminent market and showcase for independent film. Over this span, the festival has become famous not just for the groundbreaking movies it's premiered, but its wintry Park City, Utah setting. January is peak ski season in the once-sleepy resort town, which gives Hollywood execs, producers and artists extra incentive to skip town and squeeze in some time on the slopes while watching loads of new movies from some of the most talented and excitingly unconventional filmmakers on the planet.
This annual tradition could be coming to an end.
Today, the Sundance Institute announced that it is soliciting bids to relocate the 10-day festival. According to festival director Eugene Hernandez:

A year ago, trades announced that Oscar-nominee Austin Butler (“Dune: Part Two“) would be leading a feature film adaptation of the famous Don Winslow crime saga novel “City On Fire”. To say that few filmmakers love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino is a staggering understatement. Few people love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino, and the cinephile’s tastes continue to shape Hollywood. Today he turns 61, and so of course we had to share an updated list of Tarantino’s favorite movies that brings the total to 61.

Quentin Tarantino is one of our most renowned cinephiles, as illustrated by his encyclopedic knowledge of film history, genres, and Hollywood stars. He is mostly known for creating audacious films such as "Pulp Fiction" and the "Kill Bill" series. While he has co-directed other movies (such as "Four Rooms" and "Sin City"), it is Tarantino's originals that have left a distinct impact on popular culture.
But did you know that Tarantino has also dabbled in television directing? As "Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood" demonstrated, he is just as savvy about television as he is about film, with a wide knowledge of its unique ecosystem and history. He brought this deep appreciation of television to his work on the eerie two-part season 5 finale of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" entitled "Grave Danger" in 2005. When the Los Angeles Times asked the wildly creative director if he felt "trapped by working within the confines of network television,...

Born in 1963, Quentin Tarantino redefined independent cinema with his pulpy mix of violence, dark humor and pop culture, crafting several modern classics. But before he made history, he made a living as a video store clerk while penning spec scripts. He made his directorial debut with “Reservoir Dogs” (1992), a “Rashomon”-esque crime drama about a botched jewel heist. Two more of his scripts, “True Romance” (1993) and “Natural Born Killers” (1994), were later produced by Tony Scott and Oliver Stone, respectively.
He hit the Oscar jackpot just two years after his filmmaking debut with “Pulp Fiction” (1994), a multi-narrative, self-referential pastiche about a group of criminals whose lives intersect in surprising ways. After winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the indie hit went on to collect a screenwriting prize for Tarantino and Roger Avery, earning nominations in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (John Travolta), Best Supporting Actor (Samuel L. Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly one of the most influential directors in Hollywood. There is one filmmaker who was influenced and guided by Tarantino and went on to become a prominent name in the horror genre. Eli Roth’s film, Restaurant Dogs, was a clear homage to the Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs. The duo later became good friends and collaborated on several projects over the years.

Quentin Tarantino‘s name likely needs no introduction with movie fanatics. This post contains spoilers for "Reservoir Dogs" and "City on Fire" (1987)
Acclaimed actor/writer/director Quentin Tarantino is known for paying homage to classic films in his work, a signature move that he made even in his debut feature, the 1992 heist movie "Reservoir Dogs." The director's films frequently nod to foreign and obscure cinema, offering plenty of Easter eggs for the attentive viewer. A close watch of any of his films might feel like an unbroken string of cinematic references, but sometimes the influence of a single film is so strong that it permeates through the entire movie. Such is the case for "Reservoir Dogs," and the Hong Kong action movie "City on Fire."
The 1987 crime film by director Ringo Lam tells the story of Ko Chow, an undercover cop who is forced to take on another risky job when a fellow policeman is killed by a gang of thieves.

Some apotheosis of film culture has been reached with Freddy Got Fingered‘s addition to the Criterion Channel. Three years after we interviewed Tom Green about his consummate film maudit, it’s appearing on the service’s Razzie-centered program that also includes the now-admired likes of Cruising, Heaven’s Gate, Querelle, and Ishtar; the still-due likes of Under the Cherry Moon; and the more-contested Gigli, Swept Away, and Nicolas Cage-led Wicker Man. In all cases it’s an opportunity to reconsider one of the lamest, thin-gruel entities in modern culture.

Samuel L. Jackson is the highest-grossing actor of all time. The iconic actor, who made his feature film debut in 1972 independent drama Together for Days, has seen his name so far attached to 142 films, which have amassed more than $27 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
The big reason behind the eye-watering figure is Jackson’s frequent appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wherein he portrays Nick Fury. Brad Pitt is likely reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for the filmmaker’s 10th and ostensibly final feature, “The Movie Critic.” The status of the deal is unclear.
Tarantino has remained tight-lipped about “The Movie Critic,” but it’s reportedly set in southern California during the 1970s and center on a cynical film reviewer. It’s rumored to be inspired by the life of Pauline Kael, the late New Yorker writer who was one of the most influential film critics of her time.
Tarantino sidestepped inquiries about “The Movie Critic” during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, saying to audience members, “I can’t tell you guys [anything] until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character’s monologues right now, but I’m not going to. Maybe if there were less video cameras. You just have to wait and see.”

Variety falsely announced your death in 2015 with the headline “Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam dies at XXX”. How did the news reach you? DoubleRDiner
I saw it online. I couldn’t believe I died in a Vin Diesel movie! I thought it was very funny. My family were a little more concerned. My son went into work and his boss said: “Oh, Harry, I’m so sorry for your father’s death,” and Harry knew nothing about the fact that I had died. They have the obituaries ready to go for anybody halfway known. Whoever pushed the button, it was a big mistake. I got on to my agent and lawyer and said: “What do we do about this?” but they were really boring. I said: “I...

Sundance Film Festival’s Top 10 List
The Sundance Film Festival is celebrating its 40th edition with the 2024 festival running January 18th through 28th in Park City and Salt Lake City. In honor of the milestone event, Sundance called on the filmmaking community to put together a list of the top 10 feature films that have screened at the annual festival.
Over 4,000 feature films have been presented at the festival, and culling that massive list to 10 required the input of 500+ filmmakers, critics, and industry members who shared their personal top 10 lists. Topping the All Time Top 10 Films list is Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash, which debuted in 2014. Whiplash, starring J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller, won the Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic and the Grand Jury Prize: U.S. Dramatic at the festival and went on to win three Oscars.
Feature film directing debuts of Steven Soderbergh, Jordan Peele, and Quentin Tarantino were voted onto the list.
