Paul Feig was just a couple of days away from wrapping the sequel to “A Simple Favor” in Italy when he got to share some very good news with the cast – the first film is currently the No. 1 most watched movie on Netflix.
“I sent it to all my main cast saying, ‘Hey, we’re doing the right thing here,” Feig says on a phone call from the movie’s Rome set.
Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and Henry Golding reprise their original roles for the followup. New cast members include Tony winner Alex Newell and Oscar winner and frequent Feig collaborator Allison Janney.
The 2018 movie stars Kendrick as widowed vlogger Stephanie who takes it upon herself to investigate the disappearance of her friend Emily (Lively). The $20 million crime comedy grossed nearly $100,000,000 in the U.S.
“I’m thrilled,” Feig says about being on the top of the Netflix movies chart.

It’s finally here. After many reports about production issues, screenings and 40 years worth of waiting, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
The anticipated epic is being met with a lot of mixed reactions (and confusion) from the reviewers, some lauding the audacity of the movie and others questioning its existence.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s chief film critic David Rooney offers: “It’s windy and overstuffed, frequently baffling and way too talky, quoting Hamlet and The Tempest, Marcus Aurelius and Petrarch, ruminating on time, consciousness and power to a degree that becomes ponderous. But it’s also often amusing, playful, visually dazzling and illuminated by a touching hope for humanity.”
Over the last couple of months, multiple reports about Megalopolis — including from THR — have shed light on the project that Coppola has been discussing for decades. He poured a stunning $120 million of his own money...

If you thought the twisted characters in Game of Thrones, which were adapted from George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, were the epitome of evil, think again.
Martin, the mastermind behind the beloved and brutal fantasy series, once took to his personal blog to give his thoughts on the Emmy-worthy performance of Breaking Bad’s Ozymandias episode. And let’s just say he was just so impressed that, according to him, the episode was the ante in the realm of television monsters.

Martin lauded Breaking Bad and its protagonist, Walter White, as a greater monster than anyone in Westeros. Yes, you read that right. The man who created terrifying characters such as Ramsay Bolton and Joffrey Baratheon acknowledged that there is one supervillain who surpasses them all.

A gripping plot, superb acting, thought-out dialog, an amazing ability to hold the audience's attention, sex, violence, and struggle for power – Game of Thrones was famous for all of this, but was it the first of its kind?
Perhaps in every genre there is the series that was unfairly closed at the most interesting moment. For fans of science fiction, Firefly became such a wound in the heart, and for fans of historical dramas, there is Rome, the return of which most connoisseurs of the genre dream of.
As it happens, Rome has only two seasons. But even that is enough to appreciate it.
Rome Was Game of Thrones’ Predecessor
Even before Game of Thrones, HBO and the BBC tried the "sex, blood and political intrigue" formula with Rome, which was released in 2005. And the historical period was more appropriate than ever: the Roman Empire just after the Gallic War...

Jerry Seinfeld is still bothered “a little bit” by how “Seinfeld” ended. Let’s just say, it wasn’t as cinematic as his favorite finale ever: “Mad Men.”

“I feel ‘Mad Men’ was the greatest,” Seinfeld said. “A lot of people like the ‘Bob Newhart’ one. ‘Mary Tyler Moore’ was Ok. ‘Mad Men’ was the greatest final moment of a series I’ve ever seen. So satisfying. So funny.”
During the recent series finale of Larry David’s long-running meta HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” David and Seinfeld reunite onscreen to revisit the controversial “Seinfeld” final moments with the stand-up comic ending up in jail.

Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions is bigger than ever this year.
To celebrate its 40th season, the American trivia institution invited a record-breaking 27 contestants to its hallowed annual tourney featuring the previous season’s best champions. (It also certainly didn’t hurt that the show needed to add some extra tournaments for ToC eligibility due to the Hollywood writers strike messing with its usual production schedule).
The expanded contestant count has given Jeopardy! the opportunity to invite back some intriguing contenders who didn’t hit the required benchmark of at least five wins in their initial run. It’s also meant that the show has gotten to try something it’s never done before: bring on a Celebrity Jeopardy! champion to contend with the “real” trivia masters.

Perhaps putting his Shia Labeouf-scripted Auschwitz film on hold––how you feel about that prospect is a fantastic Rorschach test––Abel Ferrara has a New Rose Hotel / Go Go Tales reunion in store. As his documentary Turn in the Wound debuts at the Berlinale, he’s well into development on American Nails, a gangster film that will star Willem Dafoe and Asia Argento and roll cameras this summer. [Variety]
Almost needless to say Ferrara wouldn’t, at this wild stage of his career, simply return to classic territory: as written by him and Rossella De Venuto, it retells Euripides’ Hippolytus “in a tale set in the gangster world of primal violence, power and revenge [that] pits Argento against the male-dominated remnants of power and entitlement, in the shadow of the Roman Empire in contemporary Italy.” Ferrara’s last time in Rome, Zeros and Ones, is among the wildest visions of the...

Until the neither disappointing nor remarkable "Frasier" reboot, the beloved sitcom on which it was based had been off the air for almost 20 years. Running from 1993 to 2004, "Frasier" came to represent the gold standard for '90s sitcoms, alongside contemporary hits such as "Friends" and "Seinfeld." A big part of the show's success was that star Kelsey Grammer seemed to have been born to play the titular doctor, portraying his egoism and fastidiousness with the perfect balance of humor and earnestness. But the show was also propelled by a truly stellar supporting cast.
David Hyde Pierce might have thought the script for the "Frasier" pilot was "terrible" at first, but he very quickly realized how well-written the show was and throughout the show's run delivered a consistently brilliant performance as Frasier's equally stuffy brother, Niles. Alongside Peri Gilpin as Frasier's radio producer, Roz, John Mahoney as Frasier and Niles' father,...

Chicago Fire is ready to introduce its newest firefighter.
The exit of actor Alberto Rosende (Blake Gallo) necessitated adding someone new to the cast.
And in a season of change for the hit NBC drama, this is the first of many new faces to appear soon.
Paramedic in Charge Sylvie Brett (played by Kara Killmer) will also leave Firehouse 51.
In the Season 12 premiere episode, she alluded to leaving Chicago in about a month and a half.
Brett is moving to Portland after she gets married to Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer).
Who is the new firefighter on Chicago Fire?
Actor Rome Flynn will first appear in Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 2.
Rome’s character is Derrick Gibson, and he gets a chance to prove himself during the January 24 episode.
Joining Firehouse 51 is no easy task, as this group has been together for years. But once someone is in, they are considered family.

Highly active Copenhagen-based sales outfit REinvent has acquired rights to the Danish pic “Rome,” officially selected as the Göteborg Film Festival’s closing movie.
The life-affirming romantic drama marks the sophomore feature from established Danish choreographer Niclas Bendixen, behind Mads Mikkelsen’s famous dance scene in the Oscar-winning “Another Round.” Toplining the cast are Rolf Lassgård (“A Man Called Ove”), Bodil Jørgensen (“The Kingdom”), and Kristian Halken (“A Perfectly Normal Family”), who shares the writing credits with Bendixen and Christian Torpe (“Silent Heart”).
“‘Rome’ stands out as a heart-warming film which makes you think about life, love and values. We are proud to represent and showcase ‘Rome’ to an international audience in Göteborg. I am confident that the film will find a home in the hearts of distributors in countries worldwide,” said Helene Aurø, REinvent’s sales and marketing director.

The In Memoriam segment of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday paid a moving tribute to several television stars, creators and producers who have died over the last year — but social media was quick to point out the omissions.
Users on X, formerly Twitter, were upset that missing from the video montage of the In Memoriam segment were Ryan O’Neal and Ray Stevenson. O’Neal, who died Dec. 8 at age 82, had television credits stretching back to the 1960s, and he had notable roles on the soap Peyton Place and the sitcom Good Sports and also had a run on Bones.
Stevenson, who died May 23 at age 58, was most recently seen in the Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka, and worked consistently in television since the 1990s. His notable television credits include Vikings, Dexter and Rome.

Actress Cameron Diaz has given her fans her top bit of advice for a happy relationship. The ‘Me, Myself and Irene’ star, 51, tied the knot with Benji Madden in 2015 and has continued to gush about her man and their relationship.
The Hollywood star has provided a bit of advice she thinks is key – sleep in separate bedrooms, reports Mirror.co.uk.
Despite the ‘Shrek’ actress recognising it’s a controversial idea, she is adamant it’s a genius idea and is urging people to “normalise” the way of thinking.
“We should normalise separate bedrooms,” Cameron told the Lipstick on the Rim podcast. “To me, I would literally, I have my house, you have yours. We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine. And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for our relations.

Post Malone enjoys using his international tours as opportunities to check out local watering holes, particularly those that offer karaoke. He had some free time to do just that in New Zealand a couple of nights ago, singing Sublime’s “What I Got” and The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” to patrons of Danny Doolan’s Irish Pub.
“I met Posty last night in my bar Danny Doolans in Auckland, asked him if he could get on stage and he actually did it!!! Holding a mic in one hand, and gripping both a beer bottle and cigarette in the other, it doesn’t look like he needed too much convincing to hop on stage.

"Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom" isn't hitting theaters until December, but "Saturday Night Live" took full advantage of getting franchise star Jason Momoa to host the show before he gets super busy on the international publicity tour. Momoa first hosted "SNL" back in 2018 before the release of the first "Aquaman" movie, and it was a pretty decent episode that happened just before Christmas, giving us a new holiday favorite with Momoa as a member of Santa's Elf on the Shelf team.
Sadly, this new "SNL" episode taking us into Thanksgiving week wasn't nearly as good. Strangely enough, this felt more like it was Momoa's first time hosting rather than his second trip to Studio 8H in 30 Rockefeller Plaza. While there are a couple of standout sketches, many were subpar, a couple squandered great premises, and some were just plain bad.
So let's dig into the highlights from Jason Momoa's second time hosting "Saturday Night Live.

“Mainly, the struggle was really getting a good balance between the music and the sound effects, because there’s a lot of music in the show,” reveals Ben Cook, the multiple Emmy-winning sound designer for the Apple TV+ series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” the long-gestating show in the MonsterVerse franchise that premieres November 17 on the streamer. He speaks with Gold Derby’s Latasha Ford before a packed launch event at the DGA Theater in Hollywood earlier this month. He says, “You’re talking about sequences where you have these creatures fighting each other, so it’s very bombastic. The music’s bombastic, and people are yelling, which is bombastic. So there’s a lot of competing elements… It’s a lot of sound, and we had a lot of fun doing it for sure.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

With all the talk of super-hero fatigue, it’s interesting to note that we never talk about espionage fatigue despite the steady stream of spies from a variety of franchises. One of the oldest and long-running series is, of course, Mission: Impossible. Once a lauded television series, it transitioned to film in 1996 and somehow, 27 years later, it’s still chugging along, in some ways invigorated with new life.
Led by the once-ageless Tom Cruise, he remains the fittest sixty-something actor in the world, continuing to do his own stunts and working with his personal guru Christopher McQuarrie, who returned for the newest offering, Dead-Reckoning Part One, out now from Paramount Home Entertainment.
The filming was originally intended to shoot back-to-back with the film’s released a year apart. Then came Covid-19 and now the Sga strike so those plans got scuttled. That said, their threat, Artificial Intelligence, has proven increasingly timely with every passing month.

Sublime with Rome have unveiled their latest EP, Tangerine Skies, featuring four sunshiney, new songs from the band. Stream it below.
Produced by the band’s Rome Ramirez, the tracks on Tangerine Skies capture the California ska sound that Sublime perfected three decades ago, with syncopated guitars, grooving beats, and strong vocal melodies. Lyrically, the songs allude to feelings of pain and confusion, but balance out the difficulties of life with its joys, ultimately landing on a message embracing peace and contentedness.
The title track conveys this perfectly, pairing a mid-tempo, acoustic guitar-led arrangement with lines like: “I learned to love the small things/ Had to learn to let it go/ Many rivers I have yet to cross/ But I know that I’m on the right road/ And I know I’m gonna get there.” Stream the EP and check out the music video for the title track below.

Lyrically, the songs allude to feelings of pain and confusion, but balance out the difficulties of life with its joys, ultimately landing on a message embracing peace and contentedness.

Any new show by producer Frank Doelger – whose credits include “Game of Thrones,” “The Swarm,” “John Adams” and “Rome” – must rate as an event. That event takes place Oct. 17 at Cannes Mipcom trade fair, with the world premiere of “Concordia,” on which Doelger serves as executive producer and showrunner.
Produced by Intaglio Films, a joint venture of Zdf Studios and Beta Film, which share international distribution, “Concordia” is backed by a powerful partnership of Zdf, Mbc, France Télévisions and Hulu Japan. Shot in English, the six-part series is directed by Barbara Eder.
“Concordia” begins in classic Noir style cutting from a seeming suicide on a windswept moor to the discovery of a young man’s dead body, found beside a road just outside Sweden’s Concordia, a attempt to create a utopia powered by AI surveillance to ensure a fairer, more humane and safer society.

One of the USA Network's most beloved television series is "Monk," which aired from 2002 to 2009. A police procedural comedy owing a lot to Sherlock Holmes (but set in 2000s San Francisco), the show followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). A detective with crippling obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd) and social anxiety, Monk was once a police officer but retired after the death of his wife Trudy. He semi-comes out of retirement years later as a private consultant and that's when the series begins. Thanks to his performance as Monk, Shalhoub won three Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, and the finale ("Mr. Monk and the End") broke cable ratings records.
In 2020, Shalhoub and his castmates starred in a mini-reunion for Peacock, "Monk In Quarantine." Monk, an infamous germaphobe, goes the extra mile with safety precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic while his friends check in on him over Zoom. Evidently,...

The trend consists of women asking their boyfriends and husbands how frequently they think about the Roman Empire and being surprised by the answer.
The TikTok trend primarily suggests a male inclination towards the Roman Empire. Looking at the audience demographic breakdown of popular shows in the genre, we can see that their audiences are mostly made up of men, but not overwhelmingly. Beside Starz’s “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” and UK’s “Britannia,” shows that men made up almost two-thirds of the audience, the other shows on our list below have a balanced gender breakdown. In the case of Netflix’s docudrama “Roman Empire,” the audience is even slightly female-skewed.
