Survivor 46 just ended and a promo has already arrived advertising Survivor 47. The most recent season saw Kenzie Petty win it all, taking the jury vote over favorite Charlie Davis. The actor, known for several of his more dramatic roles, recently told USA Today that even his agents warned him about taking on the role of Harry, the “dumber” of two friends, alongside Jim Carrey’s Lloyd in the 1994 comedy.
“I had agents, who weren’t wrong, telling me, ‘You’re a serious actor. This is not the direction you need to be going. We’re going to stop this and get you off this movie,'” Daniels recalled. “But I wanted to shake it up with a comedy. And I wanted to work with Jim Carrey.”

Plot: When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace. From Showrunner/ Writer/ Executive Producer David E. Kelley, A Man in Full is based on the New York Times bestselling novel by the late Tom Wolfe.
Review: Jeff Daniels has had a career that includes acclaimed performances on stage in Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird and on the big screen in dozens of dramas, as well as his iconic turn in the Dumb and Dumber films opposite Jim Carrey. To say the actor has a wide range would be an understatement. To follow up his brilliant turn in Sorkin’s HBO series The Newsroom, Daniels headlines the limited Netflix series A Man In Full, which has him channeling the most nefarious antagonist characters he has ever played.

Even though Sandra Bullock has nailed it classically in multiple other roles, one of her most real dramas was in none other than Speed. Not only was the masterpiece widely commended by critics and general viewers alike, but it is also regarded among some of the best performances to date from the film’s three prominent leads, i.e., Keanu Reeves, Bullock, and Jeff Daniels.
Speed (1994).
Surprisingly enough, even though the action-thriller later granted them such impeccable fame in their respective careers, there was a time when Daniels almost turned down his iconic role. However, thanks to a series of fortunate turn of events, not only did he end up starring in the film, but he also took an unlikely inspiration from the late Roy Scheider in one Steven Spielberg movie!

Back when he was finishing “Dumb and Dumber To” in 2014, Jeff Daniels was ready to leave show business. “I’m done,” he told Jim Carrey. “You can’t stop man,” Carrey said. “You can’t, you’re creative, you’re going to create something, you’ve got to keep creating. That’s what we do!”
These days, Carrey’s off in Hawaii painting. And when Daniels is not acting, he’s writing songs and plays, which he mounts at his Michigan hometown’s Purple Rose Theatre Company. “It’s what keeps me going,” Daniels told me on Zoom. “It keeps me alive. It’s what I’m supposed to do. It’s helped me between the phone calls for the acting jobs. Because you can go insane staring at that phone. They’ll call you when they need you. Tokyo Vice is back from quite a lengthy hiatus. And despite the nearly two-year gap between seasons — one that saw a full rebrand for streamer Max — things pick up pretty much exactly where they left off.

Several human rights organizations have called the war-caused levels of famine and illness in Yemen the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Why, then, is the suffering of the country and its people so rarely discussed in America?
Thomas Sadoski, the actor best known for starring as Don Keefer in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom,” has a few ideas about that.
“I became aware of what was going on in Yemen shortly after the most recent Civil War began back in 2014,” he says. “And as the humanitarian crisis continued to get worse and worse, I saw it move further and further towards back pages of the newspaper, if at all mentioned. There were only a small handful of journalists who were even talking about it — largely because a lot of people couldn’t get access. I, for whatever reason, was able to get that access.”

The Streamable has compiled a list of the top 25 pilots in TV history, and where you can watch them now.
The breadth of TV content available these days is truly staggering. Whether on live channels or on-demand, on linear TV or via subscription streaming services, there has never been a wider availability of TV shows, and that can create some real uncertainty about where to start!
When picking a new TV series, it’s obviously best to start with the pilot. That’s a TV industry term for the first episode of a series, and every show that’s ever been made (along with thousands that ultimately weren’t sent to production) has had one.
Choosing the best titles amongst these is difficult, particularly since “best” is a subjective term dependent on the individual user to interpret. However, the following list has been pulled from an Ask Reddit thread which...

Numerous clips have been shared online regarding how self-importantly Aaron Sorkin and company took themselves while they were making “The Newsroom,” a show that practically announced itself as the last stand for human rights and journalistic decency in the world. Holding that impossible standard high in its third season is Apple TV+’s expensive hit “The Morning Show,” a program that makes it feel like if morning news in America falls, then the apocalypse is just around the corner.

Environmental activism was at the forefront of Apple’s product announcement event on Sept. 12, as the company boasted about various degrees of carbon neutrality, as well as various components made out of recycled materials, including the band for the latest iteration of the Apple Watch, which is apparently 82 percent recycled yarn.
The third season of Apple TV+’s Emmy-winning The Morning Show is probably closer to 90 percent recycled yarn, as the star-studded, media-centric soap transitions from its established position as a second-rate The Newsroom — all the smug 20/20 hindsight, none of that pesky Sorkin dialogue — to a fresh approach that’s half Network (acknowledged) and half Billions (unacknowledged). (This was not going to be my lede before the Apple presentation. Thank you, Tim Cook!)
In this instance, narrative recycling works out fairly well for The Morning Show. If my standard is the number of times I visibly cringed or rolled my eyes watching my screeners,...

Jeff Daniels is ready to tell his story. The actor, who has been in everything from “The Purple Rose of Cairo” to “Dumb and Dumber,” is readying his audio-only memoir, “Alive and Well Enough,” as a 12-part series for Audible, with the first season debuting in September (with a second season on the way).
According to the official release “Alive and Well Enough” “mixes storytelling, original music and performance, [and] is like nothing you have heard before.” Would it be too much to ask for several chapters devoted to the making of “Arachnophobia?”
“Audible is the only place where I get to do everything I do,” said Daniels in an official statement. “’Alive and Well Enough’ is an audio adventure of an accidental artist who one day looked up and realized he had a sense of humor, a passion for writing and stories to tell.”

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been grabbing plenty of headlines and dollars this week but the BBC has turned the clocks back to a different retelling, making its classic series available on iPlayer.
The BAFTA-winning series aired on the BBC more than 40 years ago and is available from today as a boxset on the VoD player.
Sam Waterston was the Cillian Murphy of the series, starring as the titular scientist as he led the weapons laboratory of the Manhattan Project, all the while under constant surveillance by the FBI because of his left wing politics and association with communists. As with Nolan’s movie, the show followed his role in developing the world’s first nuclear weapons and his rivalry with Edward Teller, through to being stripped of his security clearance by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in the 1950s. David Suchet, Kate Harper, John Carson, Christopher Munke and Jana Shelden also starred.

History was made 10 years ago at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards held Sept. 22, 2013. It was the first time in history that a streaming service took home a trophy. A month away from potentially receiving his first Emmy nomination, Michael Shannon is branching out into directing with “Eric Larue,” Brett Neveu’s adaptation of his own 2002 play. Following a mother seeking some semblance of normalcy in a town rocked by the horrific act of violence perpetrated by her son against three classmates, the movie just premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival to significant acclaim for its leading lady, veteran character actor Judy Greer. Considering the subject, comparisons to “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and “Mass” are unsurprising.
Alexander Skarsgård co-stars as Greer’s born-again husband, and Paul Sparks (with whom Shannon has worked on “Boardwalk Empire” and “Waco”), Alison Pill (“The Newsroom”), Tracy Letts (“Lady Bird”), Annie Parisse (“The Following”), Kate Arrington (“George & Tammy”) and Nation Sage Henrikson (“Shameless”) comprise the rest of the main cast. It doesn’t exactly scream “nuance” when a film begins with a character explicitly laying out their values in a monologue. Anyone who was unsure what they were walking into before seeing “Cold Copy” will have their confusion instantly clarified when it opens on journalism student Mia Scott (Bel Powley) rattling off a bunch of buzzwords about speaking truth to power and telling stories that shape our society. If you typed out the entire soliloquy and put it on a tote bag, it probably would have been one of the best-selling items of the 2017 holiday season in the New York Times merch store.
The heavy-handed monologue is indicative of the larger problems looming over “Cold Copy.” While the film never quite devolves into the Resistance-era morality play that the opening scene threatens us with, its exploration of personal ambition and power dynamics in the workplace isn’t much better. Roxine Helberg...

Messina's latest project, the comedy thriller series "Based on a True Story," hits Peacock on June 8.
When he isn't busy acting, though, the 48-year-old star enjoys life with film producer Jennifer Todd, and their two children, Milo and Giovanni. Every so often, you come across a curious Emmys stat that just grabs your attention. This year, we noticed Emmy voters’ love for variety in one specific category — Best Drama Actor.
In this category, the last eight years have given us eight new, different winners for different shows. They are, in descending order: last year’s winner Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), Josh O’Connor, Jeremy Strong, Billy Porter, Matthew Rhys, Sterling K. Brown, Rami Malek, and Jon Hamm. Bryan Cranston won in 2014 for “Breaking Bad” — he’d already won for the same show in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
So, there you have it. That’s a run of eight years where this Emmy has gone to a different performer and a different show. In that timeframe, there has been no overlap in terms of the same actor winning, nor has the same show won for different actors. Complete newness across the board for eight years.

Pilots are the first and most essential steps in creating a show. They must entice potential viewers while introducing characters, setting up plotlines, and conveying the overall feel of what is to come with future episodes. It can be challenging for even experienced producers—many television series never make it past their pilots due to subpar writing or simply not connecting with viewer interests.

After sitting in second place ever since our predictions center launched, Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) recently dethroned Richard Jenkins (“Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) from the top spot in our limited series/TV movie supporting actor Emmy odds. If he indeed prevails, he will continue the trend of this award going to a first-time nominee.
Hauser would be the seventh out of eight actors under the popular vote system — which was introduced in 2016 after the TV academy did away with the preferential ballot — and the fifth in a row to win this category on his maiden Primetime Emmy nom. Under this system, the rookie contender-turned-champ trend was started by Sterling K. Brown with his victory for “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” in 2016. It survived another year, thanks to Alexander Skarsgard (“Big Little Lies”), before getting intercepted by Jeff Daniels (“Godless”) in 2018 — at which point...

If you thought Disney was slowing down with its live-action remakes of animated hits, you thought wrong. Instead, the Mouse House is putting its foot on the accelerator by announcing a live-action remake of "Moana," a mere six years and change after the original arrived in theaters. Dwayne Johnson, who voiced the South Pacific demigod Maui in the animated film and even showed off his singing skills in the number "You're Welcome," announced the "reimagining" (Disney's preferred branding for its live-action remakes) in a video that also features his two youngest daughters, Jasmine and Tiana.
Johnson intends to reprise his role as Maui, but while actress Auli'i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the 2016 original, is attached as an executive producer, there's no indication yet that she'll be returning on-screen alongside Johnson. The remake is still in very early development; "Moana" screenwriter Jared Bush and Samoan writer/producer Dana Ledoux Miller...

Bob Odenkirk looks to double his chances at the Emmys this year by entering the Comedy Actor race for “Lucky Hank.” This could mean he gets nominated in the Drama and Comedy Lead Actor categories. For an actor with a long-established career in comedy, it seems fitting he’d make the field of jokers.
“Lucky Hank” is the new AMC dark comedy, where Odenkirk plays the college professor, William Henry “Hank” Devereaux, Jr. At the beginning of the show’s pilot episode, Hank rants in class about his institution being a “middling college” and exclaims to a student, “The fact that you’re here means you didn’t try very hard.” The fallout of this causes Hank to be voted out as Chair of the English department. These ramifications lead to conversations with his wife (Mireille Enos) about moving to New York where she has an exciting job opportunity. However,...

Aaron Sorkin is one of the most respected writers in the game, with an Oscar, Golden Globes, Emmys, WGA Awards, and more to his credit. But Aaron Sorkin could have lost his ability to write entirely, recently revealing that he suffered a stroke late last year.
Sorkin suffered his stroke last November, not long before he was set to begin production on another iteration of Camelot on Broadway. After immediate concerns over bumping into walls and spilling items, Aaron Sorkin called his doctor, who told him he had had a stroke, delivering the grim message, “You’re supposed to be dead.” Sorkin had extremely high blood pressure and was soon slurring his words. He was even having difficulties writing his name, slowing down his longhand writing.
After the stroke, Aaron Sorkin grew concerned he wouldn’t be able to finish what he started. “There was a minute when I was...
