Yellowstone, effortlessly, is one of the best projects credited to Taylor Sheridan’s name to date, ranking among the likes of Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and this very series’ multiple prequels including 1923 and 1883.
But while the mastermind developed this storyline himself, not many fans know what actually induced him to spend so many big bucks on the horses for this saga.
Yellowstone. | Credit: Paramount Network. As it turns out, there is a very major reason behind this decision from the filmmaker that many are unaware of: A story based on true, real-life harrowing events that Sheridan himself had to go through.
Moreover, this dark tale not only influenced his decision to buy so many horses for his saga but can also be felt in the characters’ behaviors throughout the masterpiece series.

Kevin Costner is so heavily associated with the Western genre that he not only departed the most epic Western saga of recent years, but did so in order to make his own epic Western saga. The Dances With Wolves and Open Range legend had, in recent years, been the face of TV smash Yellowstone – the Taylor Sheridan series that became a ratings juggernaut, and spawned an entire universe of spin-off shows set in different eras of American history. But before the show's end, Costner departed the role of John Dutton III, partly in order to direct and star in his multi-part movie Western series Horizon: An American Saga. With the largely self-funded Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 hitting cinemas soon, Yellowstone fans will get their Costner Western fix – but as it stands, the star won’t appear in the upcoming final run of the TV smash.

Yellowstone, the wildly popular Western drama series is the product of Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner’s collaboration. It is safe to say that Costner’s mesmerizing portrayal of John Dutton is the reason that the show is so popular. The actor’s portrayal of the wealthy rancher was so outstanding that garnered a massive fan following for the show, allowing Sheridan to revive the forgotten Western genre.

Get this, Kevin Costner is reportedly looking forward to returning to Taylor Sheridan’s epic western show, ‘Yellowstone.’
This bit of news is coming after critics ripped open Costner’s passion project ‘Horizon: An American Saga,’ which, if you can believe it, was the Western drama that inspired Costner to leave his lead role in ‘Yellowstone,’ mortgage his home to raise $30 million to sponsor it, and blow off Taylor Sheridan in the process.
Some say the decision to step away from ‘Yellowstone’ looks ready to blow up in his face. Here’s what we know about Costner’s hopes to return.
Kevin Costner – Reportedly ‘Begging’ To Return As John Dutton In ‘Yellowstone’ Following ‘Horizon’s’ Negative Reception
Cannes critics were not particularly nice when describing Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon.’ The Hollywood Reporter called it a “clumsy slog” with “messy plot threads.” IndieWire declared it to be the “dullest cinematic vanity project of the century.

Kevin Costner is one of the most successful and well-known actors in Hollywood. Although he is better known for his acting roles, he has started to actively establish himself for his work behind the camera. His directorial debut was through the 1990 film, Dances with Wolves. Since then, he has only assumed this role on two other projects. That was until now.

However, there was one person who gave him quite an interesting piece of advice on how and where he should release the story. Something Costner refused to listen to.

The volatile world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has left its audience twisting and turning over what new surprise lurks in the shadows. Every season arrives with an overstuffed burden of family drama and brutal politics that never fail to entertain or enslave the viewers to an adrenaline-driven rollercoaster. But all of it would have never seen the light of day considering the rocky start that the creator had during his initial pitch at HBO.

In Hollywood, the portrayal of Native American stories has long been a subject of scrutiny when depicted through the lens of non-Native creators. Such is the case with filmmaker Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on projects like the Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, as well as the 2017 film Wind River. As a white man, Sheridan has faced criticism for his handling of these narratives, accused of appropriating and misrepresenting Native American experiences.

Mo Brings Plenty, an actor who has worked closely with Sheridan on his projects, has stepped forward with a behind-the-scenes perspective that challenges prevailing criticisms. In this narrative, Brings Plenty sheds light on Sheridan’s approach to storytelling, presenting a counterpoint to the existing critiques.

The Taylor Sheridan-created Yellowstone is a milestone when it comes ti the Western genre. Starting Kevin Costner in the lead, the TV show is almost at its end, even though we are yet to get any updates on the second half of the fifth and final season of the show. But Yellowstone is not the only creation by Sheridan, who also has movies like Sicario and Wind River and the hit TV show, Mayor of Kingstown to his credit.

He also has a knack for casting the perfect fit for every character, and that is not limited to just the primary cast. Yellowstone has been one of the most significant television shows over the recent few years. It boasts a magnificent cast and a much-celebrated universe centering around the Dutton Ranch.
Besides the worldwide popularity of the show for its content, Yellowstone has also witnessed several off-screen dramas that include legal battles. The show faced a prominent legal battle when creator Taylor Sheridan filed a lawsuit against actor Cole Hauser’s coffee company.

As Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner lock horns over the latter’s Yellowstone departure, the rest of the world patiently awaits the dust to settle and both parties to reach an agreeable verdict. One’s life’s work is not measured by the awards or honors received in service of one’s contribution but by the value and worth contained in the work itself. For Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone is the one that will stand as his legacy long after he is gone. However, Kelly Reilly missed the memo on legacy, value, reward, and honor, given how difficult her life has become in the aftermath of Yellowstone.

Reilly’s arc as Beth Button still has a long way to go but behind-the-scenes drama and personal commitments have proven difficult to manage amidst the show’s ever-growing popularity among fans and followers.

Taylor Sheridan’s extensive body of work, from Yellowstone to Special Ops: Lioness, and all other projects in between has brought out the best and the most brilliant of works from Hollywood-certified A-listers. Among them, Jeremy Renner stands out on top, not for the gritty realism of his series, Mayor of Kingstown but because of Renner’s miraculous journey from near death to full recovery.

Despite the threat of never being able to walk again, Renner defied every medical impediment to start filming exactly a year after his snowplow accident. The days spent on set since then may not have been easy but they are a testament to the superhuman strength and sheer force of will contained within the 2-times Oscar-nominated actor.

Today, we know and love Taylor Sheridan as the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its plentiful spin-offs and one of the best neo-Western creators in Hollywood. But back in the day, Sheridan was just another young man chasing his dreams in one of the most brutally competitive industries in the world, and he stood next to no chance of making it through… So he decided to punch his way to success.
Sheridan’s First Audition Went Poorly
Taylor Sheridan’s background is just about 100% like you imagined it based on his works. He was born in North Carolina, lived in Texas, and then moved to Chicago to chase his dreams. He wanted to become an actor and knew where to start: commercials. Unfortunately, Sheridan’s first audition wasn’t going as planned.

The love towards westerns is easily understandable: which other genre can give us so many different stories at the same time? There’s always a pride and honor plotline, a romantic story, some family drama, and of course good-old fight scenes in a picturesque landscape.
For many years after the golden era with Wayne and Eastwood the role of an iconic western leading man went to Kevin Costner, especially amid the tremendous success of the Yellowstone series.
But we think it's only fair to mention another brilliant western performance by another A-list actor, Pierce Brosnan. The former James Bond and Mamma Mia star actually made quite an impression as Eli McCullough, the greedy Texas oil tycoon in a western series called The Son.
The Son is a multigenerational epic that tells the story of Eli’s life from his complicated childhood to the times when he becomes a father of the family.

While most know Kevin Costner for all the masterpieces he has led to date which include credits like Yellowstone and Dances with Wolves, not many know that the actor cum producer has led some epically disastrous projects as well. And while these projects didn’t necessarily drown because of his acting, one of them did, in fact, end up in the dump because of its bloated budget.

This dates back to the 1990s, when having budgets for a project in tens of millions was already considered high, let alone one in hundreds of millions, like Waterworld, which was, pretty much, one of the biggest disasters in Hollywood. The reason behind this was Costner himself, who ended up shooting up the budget by a whopping 35 times than what was required!

Who else has the same grace behind and in front of the camera as Kevin Costner when it comes to bringing the rough landscapes of Westerns to the big screen? From Open Range to Dances With Wolves, the Oscar winner, 69, has not only evoked the spirit of the American frontier but also left an indelible mark on the film industry over his four-decade career.
His dedication to the work shines through in his smartly picked roles and his meticulous approach to acting. Celebrating his recent directorial sensation, Horizon: An American Saga, which recently made waves at Cannes, Costner’s connection to the method of storytelling is apparent. Well, currently, he is stirring the news with both his direction and a headline-grabbing entanglement with Yellowstone’s creators.

Apple TV’s flagship series “The Morning Show” returned last fall with its third season and with it comes the show’s best cast to date. Nicole Beharie, Jon Hamm, Tig Notaro, and Stephen Fry all joined the cast while mainstays Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup all turned in their best work yet.
However, it’s the show’s supporting players, who have been here since day one, that makes the series so good. Karen Pittman is a prime example of that. The series depicts the behind-the-scenes drama of a US morning TV show and Pittman plays Mia Jordan, a key producer of said show. Pittman has always been an actress who possesses a powerful screen presence and that is true here, too. She captivates audiences (and the other actors) but also smartly sews vulnerability into a character who has some power in the show.

Since the days of finger painting stories on cave walls, storytellers have known the secret of telling a quality fable. If your characters have flaws, they will resonate, even the villains.
One-dimensional characters just don't cut it, even if they're relegated to a distant, supporting role.
Some pundits are decrying the use of the deeply flawed character as an overdone trope that should die an ignominious death.
Yet, here we are, with the most acutely compromised characters reigning supreme on our TV screens and reverberating throughout our social interactions.
The art of creating the 'grey' character isn't going away any time soon, as this list of 13 deeply flawed characters clearly demonstrates.

Clint Eastwood retired from the Western genre with the most epic Western film in cinematic history, Unforgiven. It won the Best Picture Oscar and the Best Director Oscar for Eastwood. In his final Western outing, Eastwood deconstructed some of the outdated myths that were popular in Westerns including John Wayne films. Not only did he create the greatest Western movie, he also inspired other filmmakers in the genre with this film.

When it was announced that Yellowstone would conclude with its fifth season, many reports emerged stressing this was a result of an alleged feud between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. Moreover, considering that Costner has kickstarted his own film series with Horizon: An American Saga, some speculated his commitment to the Western epic might’ve contributed to its ending.
But earlier this month, the actor finally cleared the air surrounding the Yellowstone drama, even stating that he initially signed in for seven seasons of Sheridan’s western drama.

There has long been rumored tension between Kevin Costner and Yellowstone showrunner Taylor Sheridan, as it was speculated Costner’s alleged issues with the writer led to his exit from the show. But despite marking his exit from the universally acclaimed show, which will end with its second half of season 5, the JFK star isn’t done with westerns, as he has now kickstarted his own film series.
However, during the premiere of his Horizon: An American Saga, the actor fueled up rumors surrounding the Yellowstone creator plagiarizing materials from other Westerns.

The big question that keeps popping up amid Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone fallout is whether the Oscar-winning actor will ever return to the Paramount series without further escalation of the already overblown drama.

Even though the Internet is still trying to get a full picture of what happened between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner that the only possible decision was for the actor to leave the show, it is time to move on to the next chapter of Yellowstone. Like it or not, the next spinoff of the show will have to adapt its story to Kevin Costner's absence.
While there are many rumors about what the show will be about and who will be involved in it, there is little to no confirmed information so far. Still, fans of the franchise are grasping at any straws they can find to keep hopes for the show as high as possible.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is coming to an end with the second part of the final season, currently in production. While a spinoff series is in the slate from the same creator, neither Sheridan nor Paramount has said anything definitive about the series. According to a recent report, three major Yellowstone stars would return to the spinoff series with a record salary.

It was reported that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes would return in the spinoff. Earlier reports suggested that the spinoff is eyeing top actors like Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer, who are pricier than the three aforementioned Yellowstone stars.
However, it is unlikely that these stars would beat the record salaries of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in The Morning Show.
