Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.
Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.
The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.
When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.
As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.

A few matches into a preview demo of Star Wars Hunters, the new multiplayer hero shooter from developer Zynga, the mobile touch-screen controls really start to click. Let’s be clear up front: I almost exclusively play on consoles with a controller, so it takes me a pummeling or two (or three) in the 4v4 shooter to get the hang of the movement, aiming, and special abilities on an iPhone screen. But it’s easy to get hooked by the world of Hunters even before you get good, especially if you’re already Star Wars fan. From the few hours I played the game with developers and fellow members of the press, it’s clear that the team at Zynga have made something that really feels like it belongs in Star Wars.

Star Wars will be getting a new show next month called The Acolyte. The mystery thriller show is reportedly set before the events of the Star Wars films (even the prequels) and follows the murder of multiple Jedi Knights. Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland acts as the creator and showrunner of the Disney+ series.
While the show has been in the making for the past four years, it has reportedly cost Disney a lot of money. According to a new report, the eight-episode series cost the studio $180 million, which is a lot considering the show features none of the characters previously seen in the franchise. Even the Ewan McGregor starring Obi-Wan Kenobi had a budget of $90 million.

Recently, Gina Carano gained fame for playing Cara Dune in the first two seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had big plans for her character, even considering a standalone show.
However, everything shifted when Carano made controversial social media posts, including comparing anti-vaxers to Jews and discussing other sensitive topics that clashed with Disney’s image.
In her interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Gina Carano shared her Disney ordeal and how it all began. Disney and Lucasfilm grew worried as controversies surrounded Carano, especially due to her social media posts.
The situation escalated when Carano faced criticism for not sharing her pronouns online in support of the trans rights movement. In response, she added “boop/bop/beep” to her Twitter bio, clarifying it was not meant to mock but to express her frustration, drawing a comparison to R2-D2’s sounds.

Gina Carano is in recent times most notably known as Cara Dune, a pretty big character in the two first seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had seemingly big plans both for the actress and for her character, as she was at one point supposed to receive her own standalone show.
But, everything changed due to a series of controversial social media posts in which Carano compared anti-vaxers to Jews, and after she touched upon other sensitive topics that aren’t quite in tune with modern sensibilities and the image that Disney is trying to maintain.
In her interview with the Hollywood Reporter Gina Carano recounted her struggle with Disney and how everything started. Disney and Lucasfilm became increasingly concerned as controversies surrounded Gina Carano, particularly regarding her social media posts.
However, the tipping point came when Carano faced backlash for refusing to disclose her pronouns online in support of the trans rights movement.

Committed to long-interconnected franchises can sometimes be a chore for the viewers, especially when something is as big as the MCU. It also doesn’t help when newcomers are required to know about the entries that came before to enjoy a new show or movie. One major example is Madness of Multiverse, as fans, who weren’t familiar with the Wanda Vision beforehand, had a hard time piecing it all together in the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange.
But Star Wars did combat this issue with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka, as the showrunners succeeded in making it more accessible to fans, who had no knowledge about her history.

Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed that he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but not as the character he's been campaigning to play over the past few months, Charles Xavier.
During Ccxp back in May (via Collider), Esposito revealed that he will be appearing in a Marvel Studios project, but declined to reveal any more details. The actor did say that we'd find out "sooner rather than later," and the role is "better than you can imagine."
There was some speculation that Esposito might show up in the cameo-filled Deadpool and Wolverine, but according to Mttsh, he will be making his MCU debut in an upcoming Disney+ series.
Does this narrow down the character possibilities? Not really, since we have Agatha All Along, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, and the recently announced Vision series all on the horizon, as well as more Marvel Spotlight presentations such as Wonder Man.

When the Emmy nominations are announced July 17, something will happen that hasn’t happened in 50 years: The nominees for best drama series will include only one previously nominated show, Netflix’s The Crown. I would love to be able to say that’s because there are so many great dramas out there and that TV Academy members are diligently watching them and championing different great ones this year. But the truth is, this field, historically among the strongest each season, now looks like a wasteland.

When George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion, it marked a major turning point in the movie industry. But, as Lucas himself says, some game-changing transitions within the business were already in full swing.
In an interview with Brut (via Screen Rant), George Lucas said that selling Lucasfilm all came down to the rise of streaming. “Streaming is really powerful, and it’s great, it’s really upped the movie business because the theatrical movie business… we could see the problems, and it was not good. So everybody was looking to save it, but nobody knew streaming would. And that’s when Netflix took off, and at that point, I said, ‘I don’t know what this is gonna be, there’s gonna be a giant transition in the business, I don’t know that much about it,’ and I sold the company, and I retired.

Developed in the early ‘70s by George Lucas, Star Wars, as a franchise, has grown to juggernaut heights both in net worth and creative output. Ever since the release of the first film, it has continued to capture the imaginations of countless people across the globe and become more or less synonymous with everyday pop culture. Regardless of its juggernaut impact, it too, has not managed to get away from flaws and misses and landed criticisms, especially for its prequel trilogy.

“Gremlins” director Joe Dante is spilling some secrets 40 years after the film’s release, including revealing the lengths to which studio Warner Bros. went to have one scene cut out.
Dante told Total Film that the 1984 film proved to be contentious amongst studio executives for one specific scene where Kate (Phoebe Cates) tells Billy (Zack Galligan) that she hates Christmas because her father died during the season. Well, WB execs “hated” that.
“[The scene] encapsulated the whole ethos of the picture,” Dante said. “There’s a duality of humor and horror but Warner Bros. just hated it.”
However, the sequence still stayed in the final edit in part due to producer Steven Spielberg siding with Dante. Even that endorsement didn’t stop the suits.
“I heard after it was out they were sending instructions to projectionists to see if they could cut it, which thankfully didn’t happen,” Dante said.
Chris Columbus penned the script.

CBS filed a motion Thursday to throw out a lawsuit challenging its diversity hiring practices for writers on the show “Seal Team,” arguing that it has a First Amendment right to hire who it wants.
Brian Beneker, the longtime script coordinator on the show, sued in February, arguing that he had been repeatedly passed over for writing jobs because he is a straight, white man.
Beneker has the backing of America First Legal, which is run by Stephen Miller, an adviser to former President Trump. The organization has sought to challenge diversity, equity and inclusion programs — which it terms “anti-white discrimination” — in the entertainment industry and elsewhere in corporate America.
In its motion, CBS argued that it has a constitutional right to decide who will speak on its behalf, which supersedes anti-discrimination law.

June is busting out all over, especially on streaming. Whether it’s hiding from the heat or taking a break from school and work, Disney+ and Hulu are here to satisfying your mid-year entertainment needs.
Disney+ will premiere the first new live-action Star Wars since 2023’s middling to “The Mandalorian” Season 3 and “Ahsoka” with “The Acolyte,” starring “Squid Game” breakout Lee Jung-jae. The series is set before the events of “The Phantom Menace” with a familiar master-padawan storyline but new characters and a new era where that dynamic unfolds. The streamer will also premiere various new options for kids and family-friendly programming, as well as new episodes of “Doctor Who” starring Ncuti Gatwa.
On Hulu, FX comes in hot for the summer, along with an adaptation of Candice Carty-Williams’s “Queenie,” the brat-pack documentary “Brats,” and yes — more “Love Island.” The TV and film library continues to shift with new and expiring titles,...

In the diverse field of sci-fi horror, the Alien franchise stands as a cornerstone. A film series that launched the genre’s popularity to its greatest heights. The space horror production was established by the renowned director Ridley Scott back in 1979, when the first movie came out. Since then, the murderous ETs have been handled by various auteurs, from James Cameron to David Fincher. Finnish director Renny Harlin once was painfully close to joining that list.
Sigourney Weaver in Alien |20th Century Studios
The Strangers: Chapter 1 director once had a chance to direct the third installment in the Alien filmology. But destiny had other plans for Harlin, who had to part ways with the project after desperately trying to convince 20th Century Studios of his vision for the film and failing.
Harlin’s plans would have steered the franchise back to its horror roots as opposed to more sci-fi as seen in later films.

Star Wars fans who attended last April's Star Wars Celebration in London were treated to a first look at Skeleton Crew. However, more than a year later, Lucasfilm still hasn't released any of that content online (including the trailer which seemingly confirmed Jude Law is playing a Jedi).
What we do know is that the series takes place around the same time as The Mandalorian, with the expectation being that it will tie into the post-Return of the Jedi era of storytelling. How important it's going to be to the wider franchise and Dave Filoni's eventual crossover movie remains to be seen.
In the meantime, some leaked Skeleton Crew merchandise - first shared on SFFGazette.com - has offered a new look at the show's leads.

Starfield was hyped up as the title that would change Xbox’s market position in the gaming ecosystem. And it had all the requirements for a chart-busting title, being Bethesda’s new IP in 25 years, described by Todd Howards as ‘Skyrim in Space.’
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all it could have been and only turned out to be a mediocre title that felt incredibly empty. Ahsoka was a successful Star Wars show that received high viewership and critical acclaim. While the series enjoys a vast family fanbase, there are hardcore fans who believe that it couldn’t live up to the gritty storytelling of Andor. Ahsoka was written and produced as a sequel to the animated series, Star Wars Rebels, which appealed to the family audiences. However, the Diego Luna-led series appealed to a more mature audience.

Pedro Pascal has always been an extremely prolific actor, and his track record is nothing short of impressive — but he only received real-real recognition after 2019’s The Mandalorian. This instant classic Star Wars TV show saw Pascal become a reluctant father figure for a teenage girl he’d come across in a dangerous world…
But we bet the actor was having severe deja vu while filming it, because by then, he had already done the same thing in an overlooked 2018 sci-fi Western!
Pascal Feels Natural in Father Figure Roles
We’re not even joking: Pedro Pascal’s “reluctant father” archetype started in his 2018 movie Prospect — a low-budget sci-fi drama that didn’t get the recognition it deserved. In Prospect, his character also finds himself in a hostile environment and suddenly has to take care of a teenage girl he stumbles upon out in the wilderness. Fun, isn’t it?

Upon the film’s world premiere, fans and critics alike took to social media to capture the “insanity” of Coppola’s latest feature, which has been described by the auteur as a “Roman epic.” Count IndieWire’s David Ehrlich as a fan: In his review, he said that “Coppola’s wild and delirious fever dream inspires new hope for the future of movies.” The film debuted in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and is still looking for distribution, but will definitely get an IMAX release regardless.
Adam Driver leads the feature as a pseudo alter ego of writer/director Coppola, with the Oscar-nominated actor playing an architect who envisions saving his corrupt city and transforming the metropolis into a utopia. Meanwhile, the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) clashes with Driver’s character,...

Boba Fett was conspicuous by his absence in The Mandalorian season 3 and, much to the chagrin of actor Temuera Morrison, the bounty hunter even took a backseat to Din Djarin in his own series.
Given the mixed response to The Book of Boba Fett, it's currently unclear what the future holds in store for a character we all thought had died in Return of the Jedi. However, some Star Wars fans are convinced his new armour design has been revealed...in The Simpsons?!
In the latest episode, titled "The Tipping Point," Boba Fett is spotted wearing a suit which features several significant changes to the character's appearance in Disney's recent Star Wars offerings.
As we first pointed out on SFFGazette.com, the design is clearly based on The Book of Boba Fett but includes added details to his shoulder pauldrons and Mandalorian spike decals above his helmet's visor. While this may seem like a stretch,...

For a while, Jar Jar Binks seemed to be the most hated character in cinema. The backlash against him was something to behold following the release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 25 years ago, but attitudes towards the Gungan have softened somewhat as a new generation has embraced the character. While speaking with Inverse, Best revealed that Star Wars creator George Lucas gave him a valuable piece of advice at the height of the Jar Jar backlash.
“I think it’s wonderful the younger generations are embracing not only the prequels, but Jar Jar specifically,” Best said. “This is something that George kind of predicted when all the backlash happened. He was like, ‘Thirty years from now, nobody’s going to be talking about this.’ And it was tough to realize that in the moment, but now here we are, 25 years later, and he was right.“

With 11 feature films, six live-action series, nine animated series — and, lest we forget, one holiday special — the original “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” is starting to feel like it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. “Ahsoka” occupies an interesting spot at the nexus of “Star Wars” storytelling from the past couple decades, though.
The Disney+ series acts as a bridge between the worlds of Dave Filoni’s work on the excellent animated “Rebels” and the innovative technical approach to “The Mandalorian.” Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), former apprentice to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), may have the challenge of trying to preserve the galaxy in the face of sinister threats from Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) and others, but “Ahsoka” has the challenge of blending templates set in animation with the demands of live-action — and pushing both forward, as the show takes Ahsoka and the...
