One Day (2024)
An emotional roller-coaster
I never watched the earlier film version (with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess) before watching this TV adaptation.
What a series, it sends you on an emotional roller-coaster through the episodes, but more so the last couple. I was in bits and going through countless tissues. I am not going to spoil it and say what happens at the end. But if you have already watched the film version, no doubt you know the ending already.
Now I did watch the film the following day, as I was interested in how it compares. And this TV adaptation wins hands down, the film is rushed. Each episode goes more in-depth and I got to know the characters more and felt more of an emotional connection to the characters, and the events that happened, whereas in the film I didn't get that feeling.
The acting of the two leads was very, very good, and the rest of the supporting actors were just as good.
If you haven't watched either and do want to watch one of them, I highly recommend this TV adaptation, the film may have Hollywood leads, but the story is more explored in this than in the film.
Blue Lights (2023)
Dark and powerful drama
The first episode was slow to build, but it did built up to be a dark and powerful police drama set in Belfast.
Some reviews have slated this for not being genuine of how things are in Belfast with how the police and public interact because of old history. I personally have no idea if it is true to life or not, but I enjoyed it for what it was, a drama series.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and binged watched all six episodes in one go. A couple of actors were exceptional, overall the acting was good. I'm glad. I watched this, and I hope that this show continues with another season and not be a one season drama.

Very engaging and interesting
It appears I am one of the few who has not read the book, but I decided to give this series a go as it sounded interesting and the clip shown on imdb grabbed me.
I did find it difficult in the first few episodes to understand, but the more I watched, the more I understood. This is a very intelligent story being spun from the past to the present.
I am now 18 episodes in and totally hooked. I love the storytelling of young Ye Wenjie and how it all ties in with the present.
The acting overall is very good, with the standouts for me being the actor playing young Ye Wenjie (Ziwen Wang) and the actor playing the role of Xu Bingbing (Zehui Li).
This isn't your typical alien sci-fi show, it's not fast paced, or all action. If that's what your looking for, don't bother with this intellectual show.
The only criticism I have is that the subtitles were too quick to read in places, but that is a minor issue, hence dropping the rating to 9.
