Accused (2023)
Promising New Show!
So far, so good! I like the time shifting style of storytelling when it's done right and Accused has the right mix of backstory foreshadowing and current trial drama. I've liked Michael Chiklis ever since The Shield so it's good to see him back in the first story.
It begins with Scott's Story. A brain surgeon, Chiklis, suspects his son may be planning a violent school attack. It shows some back story of his son's troubled life and how denial can give way to horrible realizations.
Overall, Accused looks like a good new drama with a formula that works. Every story is different and viewers should enjoy the parade of talented actors chosen to tell the variety of tales that all end up in a courtroom.
Tulsa King (2022)
Mislabeled as a Crime Drama.
Tulsa King is actually a Crime Drama/ Comedy. Stallone plays a fish out of water mafia boss forced to set up shop in Tulsa, OK. He pulls off a pot dispensary takeover with little to no resistance, punches people without retaliation and gets instant compliance from everyone in town with a couple hundred dollars. I call it mislabeled as a crime drama because none of the situations are even slightly realistic, but they are sometimes funny.
I don't understand the high ratings because I was bored towards the end of the first episode once I realized it wasn't really a crime drama. I mean, I love shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul...crime dramas with a dark comedic bent. This is kinda weak in that vein of show if that was the intent.
Butt Boy (2019)
A reluctant thumbs up...
It was dry and kind of difficult at first, but once it picked up momentum, I got into it!
A man has an obsession with putting things, and I mean ANYTHING into his anal cavity. The script was tight but not very deep. Takes an old figure of speech and repeatedly slams the point home.
I'm sure the film crew was pooped shooting this one. A movie that took all the traditions of sci fi comedy and wrecked 'em. In the end, the viewer is the butt of the joke.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga: Saturday Nite (2021)
What we've been waiting for!
For Wu Tang fans everywhere, this episode answers the question of whether this ensemble could deliver a credible onstage performance. The answer is HELL YEAH!!!
They had the body language and swagger down pat and all the build up was worth the wait. It took me back to that time when they first broke out. That video of The Mystery Of Chess Boxing blew up on Yo MTV Raps along with my circle of hip hop fans.
One of the reasons I used to envy the New York rap scene since out here in Cali, we had to play catch up on the Wu.
Warrior (2019)
Top Notch!!
Born and raised in San Francisco, I appreciated this Kung Fu take on the fabled Barbary Coast. Great acting, choreography, sets and some hilarious dialogue. A constant atmosphere of danger keeps you on edge and sizing up possible opponents...and there's plenty of bad asses to go around. This is one of the great ones!
