But Margie, a school friend, telephones Ruth to invite her to go night-clubbing with two boys. Ruth declines but Lillian hops on board. She meets Gerald Winthrop. She falls for Gerald Winthrop. Gerald skids his car into a deep rut. Gerald says he can't move the car and, since it is raining, they should seek shelter in a nearby motel/tourist court. They do...and stay all night. But Gerald is something of a cad and a bounder, and he soon takes up with Ruth. The fickle Gerald soon proposes to Ruth. This is about the time that Lillian discovers has left her with impending-child. This is not a good situation.
- Tex Weaver is working under cover to bring in a gang of bank robbers. When he is killed, Tim Ross, a marksman with Doc Shaw's traveling show, takes over. Posing as a Mexican he lays a trap for the gang.

- After Slug Raton takes Brady's horse, hat, and gun, the Sheriff arrests Grady thinking he is the outlaw. Slug's men chase them to Ricard's ranch which they burn. After Grady saves the Ricard's from their burning house, Betty Lou saves Grady from hanging at the hands of the masked vigilantes. Grady recognizes the voice of Raton among the vigilantes and now knows who to go after.
- A sheriff tracking a gang of rustlers discovers that one of them is the brother of his fiance.
- Bud and Ben arrive at Helen Porter's rance and learn she belives her late father was cheated out of a valuable section of the ranch by Joe Ackroyd. Pretending to have an interest in Ackroyd's land, Bud gets the deed away from him hoping it will show the signature was forged. But the Sheriff working with Ackroyd frames Bud and Ben for rustling. He then tells them he will let them escape but places a rifleman to shoot them when they exit their cell.
- Pete Childers, a notorious killer, is assigned as a deputy to Sheriff Bob Hall. Hardy Keller, wanted for murder, is hiding on a ranch own by Bob's sweetheart, Helen Jones and her brother Fred. Childers is working with Farley, a crooked cattle dealer. After Childers wantonly shoots down the surrendering Kellar, Bob beats him up and fires him. Bob knows that Fred is on familiar terms with the rustlers, but Helen won't believe him and they quarrel.
- Neglected by her moneyed parents and disillusioned with her boyfriend (Buddie Larkins, a bootlegger and philanderer), aspiring vocalist Ruth King joins a school for stage and fancy dancing, thus playing into the hand of DeLeon, its owner, who encourages students to live on the premises hoping to lure them into compromising situations. Buddie delivers a liquor order to the school hotel and discovers Ruth there. King, a lawyer, learns that DeLeon is responsible for the suicide of the daughter of one of his clients, Mrs. Blane. He and Buddie effect DeLeon's arrest and bring Ruth back home.
- Over the objections of her father (Henry B. Wathall) Doris Maynard (Barbara Kent) elopes with family chauffeur Dan Simmons (Eddie Phillips). Simmons pawns her jewels, forges her father's name on a bank note and leaves Doris a note to go home and let her father support her. A year or two later, Doris meets and falls in love with and marries Donald Thorne (Monte Blue), a crusading district attorney. Her father advises her to let the past remain buried and unrevealed. A campaign for re-election is on and Thorne has the machine organization in despair. Denman (Dewey Robinson), the machine head, is desperate and gets hold of Manners (William V. Mong), a former butler in Thorne's home who had been fired by Doris for petty theft. Manners agrees to plant some manufactured evidence in Thorne's home to discredit him. Manners, with Thorne out of town and the servants off, has no problem entering the Thorne residence. Neither does Simmons who breaks in upstairs with intentions of blackmailing Doris about her past. Downstairs, Manners is placing the framed evidence in a secret drawer of the library table when he discovers a gun that Thorne had given Doris for protection. He hears voices upstairs, investigates and overhears Simmons making his blackmail demands of Doris. She gives him her money and jewels and he departs, followed by Manners, who kills Simmons and throws the gun in the bushes. An investigation, spurred by Denman, reveals the murdered man was Mrs. Donald Thorne's unrevealed ex-husband and the murder weapon the gun Thorne had left for Doris' protection. None of this information bodes well for Thorne's re-election campaign.
