- Paper Dolls is derived out of the idea of our perception of what it is to be and live in an interracial world. It questions our behavior in racial contexts and also reflects just how varied a single person's racial and cultural heritage can be. Today, a person can be born into a life situation with a variety of ethnic roots and this in turn becomes a journey of discovering one's identity all the while juxtaposed by a world of ordained systems and conventions. It's tough. Paper Dolls is a tiny window into such a life.

They get into the same subway car and from there surreptitiously observe each other and submerge themselves in romantic fantasies (black and white). They never speak and she, just before exiting the train, has one last 'fantasy kiss' on the train, ending their 'romance.' Haunting accordion music and subway imagery add a fine subtlety to the romance and mystery.

Before long, Vic and Mac find themselves deeply entrenched in the world of the mob with no way out.
