It would go on to become the foundation of esports (electronic sports) and the force behind the online streaming medium Twitch. Dreams that eventually lifted them out of poverty and placed them on the world stage as champions. But a life in esports comes at a cost and as we follow these players throughout a year of their lives we find out just what it takes to compete at the highest level and achieve ones Dreams of Blizzcon.

As the race gets underway, the film broadens in scope to include players from Finland, Russia, Australia, Great Britain, Greece, and Germany. They discuss what it takes to compete at the highest level, and the rivalries and life/game conflicts that inevitably arise. 'Race to World First' redefines the image of the gamer, focusing on the commitment, cooperation, and tremendous diversity within this culture. For gamers both proud and closeted.

- Cho Seong Ju was 13 years old when he became a professional gamer in South Korea. At an age when most are working their way through junior high school, Seong Ju was playing StarCraft 2 professionally on stage in front of thousands of fans and practicing from the famed team house system hundreds of miles from his home in Busan. Years later, he now reflects on the toll that it has taken on his personality and development as a young adult and the challenges he must overcome to live up to the high expectations set upon him as he reaches the peak of his career.
- Yoo Jin Kim "sOs" is one of the most accomplished StarCraft 2 players of all time. He is known for his sneaky and underhanded play and his cool and collective playstyle. By all accounts, he is one of the most feared players in the game but a quick glance at his roots reveals a kind and humble farm boy that made good against all odds. This More than a Game short film is largely considered the best player doc ever created in esports. At its core is a revealing and wholesome story about how a video game changed the lives of a young boy growing up in a small village in South Korea and the effects it had on his family and the small town he grew up in.
- Sung Wook Joo "Zest" has been a dominant figure in the competitive StarCraft scene for years. Known as one of the better Protoss players in the world, lately, things have not been looking all that great for the famed player. A year-long slump threatens his heretofore illustrious career. For the first time, Sung Wook finds himself worrying about his future. His attempts to understand his predicament reveal a hard truth. His decision to leave the discipline of the team house has made him lazy and if these results continue he will likely find his career in ruin. It's time to rededicate himself and find it within himself to recover that discipline and tenacity and prove to those that doubt him that he still has what it takes.
