- The Debut of the "One O' Clock Club"..Cleveland's first local long-form talk-entertainment show..One O Clock Club made it's bow Monday, August 26, 1957 on WEWS-TV 5. Dorothy Fuldheim hosted from the start..With Ronnie Barrett and The Timekeepers providing the music, the one hour show was a hit from the beginning, expanding to 90 minutes by January 1959 if not before..Also by this time, Bill Gordon came aboard as co-host..The show had a mostly successful 7 year run.
- The first World Series to be televised beyond the previous year's limited New York-Schenectady-Philadelphia-Baltimore-Washington network and was announced by famed sportcasters Red Barber, Tom Hussey (in Boston) and Van Patrick ( in Cleveland). Television coverage of the World Series increased this year, but due to the medium still being in its infancy coverage was strictly regional. The series was open to any channel with an affiliation with one of the national broadcast networks: BBC, CBS, ABC, or DuMont. But games played in Boston could only be seen in the Northeast, while when the series shifted to Cleveland those games were the first to be aired in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Detroit and Toledo.

- WEWS, Cleveland's first television station, signed on the air December 17, 1947 with the Cleveland Press Christmas celebration starring Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart. The show aired from Cleveland's Public Hall. There were probably more people at the show than watching at home as there were so few television sets in existence. When WEWS signed on, it was also the first TV station in Ohio. The firsts accomplished by WEWS were many: first station to broadcast a World Series, first to offer a college credit TV course, first live TV ENG (electronic news gathering) remote in Cleveland, first news helicopter in Cleveland.
- The 1954 National Football League championship game was the 22nd annual championship game. The NFL title game was held on December 26, 1954, at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio. This was the third straight title game between the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns. The Detroit Lions had finished the 1954 season with a record of 9-2-1 and the Western Conference title. The Lions were led by quarterback Bobby Layne and running back Doak Walker. Cleveland Browns had finished the regular season with a record of 9-3 and won the Eastern Conference. The Browns were led by their head coach Paul Brown and quarterback Otto Graham.
