- Johnny Darling reads a bedtime story - "Peter Pan" - to his two daughters, as a mysterious figure creeps about outside the house. Once the girls are asleep, he escapes to the living room to watch television while his wife, Wendy, does dishes. A broken wine glass leads to an acrimonious exchange in which Wendy insists that she needs more help, and Jonny responds that life would be easier without the children. Someone overhears. Soon life is better around the Darling house. Someone is cleaning up the mess, even making dinner. Both busy parents assume the other is responsible. But when the parents themselves eat a cookie that the children had left out for the mysterious benefactor, tragedy ensues.
