- The foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life of older persons in the United States.
- The Retirement Research Foundation's National Media Owl Awards, which ran from 1984 to 1998, was an annual competition that recognized excellence in recently produced media on issues related to aging. The purpose of the competition was to identify and promote the visibility of outstanding films, videotapes, and television programs for and about aging or aged people, and to encourage excellence in media productions on issues related to aging (from the foundation's web site, 2000).
