Movies I simply love
This is a simple list of movies that I love - regardless of whether or not they are the best movies I've ever seen. These are the ones that hold a special place in my heart. They aren't in any particular order. I'll update this list frequently.

- DirectorSatoshi KonStarsMegumi HayashibaraTôru EmoriKatsunosuke HoriWhen a machine that allows therapists to enter their patients' dreams is stolen, all hell breaks loose. Only a young female therapist, Paprika, can stop it.Satoshi Kon (RIP - Taken from us WAY to early.) was one of the worlds greatest animators. Although I usually tend to like Japanese cartoons, I feel as though the actual quality of their animation is average and often is lacking in fluidity and expression. Satoshi Kon managed to work past and go above and beyond, his animation was always silky-smooth and superbly expressive.
Combine that with a movie filled with peoples wildest dreams, and you have in my honest opinion - the most visually impressive animated films ever made. Not necessarily the best (Though it is still a wonderful film on its own merits.) but it is still a great flick, and the eponymous heroine Paprika is a creature of pure ID - and she's one of the most charming, entertaining, and likable heroines to ever appear in film. - DirectorSteven LisbergerStarsJeff BridgesBruce BoxleitnerDavid WarnerA computer hacker is abducted into the digital world and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program.I was not able to see this in theatres as I was not born when this flick graced the silver screen, but when my mum showed this flick to me as a kid - I was still blown away. It sparked my interest in computers and video games (Well, sessions of Super Mario Bros. 3 with my mother helped as well =3) and still captivates me to this day. This was a child-hood favourite, and even today I love, love, love it.
- DirectorRichard ElfmanStarsGene CunninghamMarie-Pascale ElfmanVirginia RoseThe bizarre and musical tale of a girl who travels to another dimension through the gateway found in her family's basement.Danny Elfman, Oingo Boingo, Cab Calloway, B-Movies, Boobs, Hervez Villechaiz... what isn't to love? This is one of the funniest, most twisted, and energetic films I've ever seen. It is more or less a live action adult cartoon styled as though it were made in the 1930s, and it succeeds on all fronts. It isn't for everyone, but if you can enjoy a film like this like my wife & I did (In fact it is my wife's all time favourite movie!) it is an absolute masterpiece.
- DirectorJim SharmanStarsTim CurrySusan SarandonBarry BostwickA newly-engaged couple have a breakdown in an isolated area and must seek shelter at the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-n-Furter.When I was 12 years old, my mother took me to my first showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in the theatres. She's quite open minded as you can guess, and she's a huge cult movie fanatic. When I saw it in that theatre, I had one of the most entertaining nights of my life. I've gone every year since - and for the past 3 years, my wife & I have joined the shadow-cast on stage at our local theatre; playing Magenta and Riff-Raff. =)
- DirectorHayao MiyazakiStarsYôji MatsudaYuriko IshidaYûko TanakaOn a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami's curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.I've lived off and on in Japan (And hopefully will live there permanently soon) but when I first went to Japan, my parents took me to see this in the theatres. It was incredible. It was the first Epic I had ever seen, let alone in theatres, and it blew my socks off. It strikes a near perfect balance between history and mythology, has beautiful set designs and backgrounds, and I regard the score to be the greatest film score of all time.
I know that this film is much darker and more serious than Miyazaki's other films, or the other films on this list and it may be odd to say it is a movie I adore/love and would probably be more at home on a list of my top 10s or whatever; but it is so large in my heart because of the impact it had on my life as a movie-goer and for still impressing and captivating me each time I see it.
