- DirectorMary HarronStarsChristian BaleJustin TherouxJosh LucasA wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies. The cream of the crop(obviously with a little personal bias), American Psycho. I simply love this film. The humor is a little dark and the action a little graphic, but nonetheless the greatest movie ever made. Bale sparkles as Patrick Bateman, his solo monologues are spectacular as well with his obsessive music fixation. The cast is superb with William Dafoe doing a remarkable job as well as Reese Witherspoon as Bateman's girlfriend. The movie is not for everyone one as you will probably love it or hate it, but I would have to urge you to give it a chance and you may be pleasantly surprised.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSigourney WeaverMichael BiehnCarrie HennDecades after surviving the Nostromo incident, Ellen Ripley is sent out to re-establish contact with a terraforming colony but finds herself battling the Alien Queen and her offspring. From the mind of the master James Cameron comes the greatest sci-fi/horror/action movie ever made. Aliens grows wonderfully off of the original Alien (Which was very close to making this top 20 list) and brings a new feel to the series with its awesome action scenes but also keeps true to the original with its intense horror and suspense scenes. A treasure to watch and has a little something for every movie lover to enjoy. Simply a must see.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.A true epic adventure which will visually stun you and bring you into a world of fantasy. The true masterpiece from the Rings trilogy that introduces you to the realm of J.R.R. Tolkien through the eyes of Peter Jackson. I think I broke a record for seeing this movie more in theaters than any other movie I'v seen.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsSean ConneryNicolas CageEd HarrisA mild-mannered chemist and an ex-con must lead the counterstrike when a rogue group of military men, led by a renegade general, threaten a nerve gas attack from Alcatraz against San Francisco. The duo of Nick Cage and Sean Connery is on screen gold. The way they work of each other is wonderful and also the extremes between the two make an entertaining watch. Ed Harris also is excellent in this film as Hummel and his ever changing character.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg.Spectacular. This film is a non stop action adventure with budding star Edward Furlong having his break out roll and Arnie destroying everything in sight...brilliant, thanks again James.
- DirectorDoug LimanStarsVince VaughnHeather GrahamJon FavreauA wannabe actor has a hard time moving on from a break-up, but he is lucky to have supportive friends.Vince Vaughn's breakout roll and an instant cult classic. Funny, witty and intelligent are all good words for this film. You will not regret taking a look at this one. Talking to your answering machine... awesome...having it talk back... priceless.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLiam NeesonRalph FiennesBen KingsleyIn German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis. An emotionally stunning movie. I don't think there is another movie that brings up the feelings and sadness that this film creates. Again there is a stellar cast with Neeson and Fiennes...I think Fiennes should be right at the top for best performance ever for his portrayal of Amon Goeth.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.Another masterpiece from Mr. Nolan. Leo is exceptional and the assemble cast keeps this film strong. The ideas and visuals were groundbreaking and the story is strong through and through. JGL also gives a breakthrough performance.
- DirectorPierre MorelStarsLiam NeesonMaggie GraceFamke JanssenA retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris.Liam Neeson came out of nowhere in 2008 with Taken. This movie blew my mind and I encourage everyone everywhere to let it do the same to theirs.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Just a slight step above the first film. I think we all know what brought this movie into infamy....The Joker...maybe the best character ever.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.An incredible re-imagining of the batman series. The look and feel of this whole movie I think is what makes it so good...not to mention Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy were marvelous as well.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTim RobbinsMorgan FreemanBob GuntonOver the course of several years, two convicts form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion.A very powerful and beautiful movie. Tim Robbins steals this one even with Freeman having a very powerful role. This movie is touching and makes you feel something inside. Its no wonder it makes almost every top movie list in the world.
- DirectorGreg MottolaStarsMichael CeraJonah HillChristopher Mintz-PlasseTwo co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.First time through I don't know if a movie has made me laugh so hard as Superbad. Although this one has become quickly overplayed to the extreme it was still one if not the most brutally honest comedy I have ever seen.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerJamie Lee CurtisTom ArnoldA fearless, globe-trotting, terrorist-battling secret agent has his life turned upside down when he discovers his wife might be having an affair with a used-car salesman while terrorists smuggle nuclear war heads into the United States. The perfect mix of action, suspense and comedy all tossed into one phenomenal action film. Arnie has released a whole slew of entertaining action but we haven't seen this kind of magic in one of his films since T2. Cameron is a genius in this film and its pure entertainment from start to finish.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsLuke WilsonVince VaughnWill FerrellThree friends attempt to recapture their glory days by opening up a fraternity near their alma mater.Hilarious film. I always credited this movie with inventing and starting the new age stoner classics we all love today. I don't think we have ever had a comedy trio as good as Vaughn, Ferrell and Wilson are in this film.
- DirectorTony KayeStarsEdward NortonEdward FurlongBeverly D'AngeloLiving a life marked by violence, neo-Nazi Derek finally goes to prison after killing two black youths. Upon his release, Derek vows to change; he hopes to prevent his brother, Danny, who idolizes Derek, from following in his footsteps.A mind blowing movie. Far and away Norton's best film and an instant classic.
- DirectorJames McTeigueStarsHugo WeavingNatalie PortmanRupert GravesIn a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of "V", plots to overthrow the tyrannical government - with the help of a young woman.V was a splendid surprise for me because I had lower expectations going into this one but was very entertained. Hugo Weaving as V is perfect and the script for V was very well written. Natalie Portman was great as she usually is but a surprise standout was Stephan Rea as Finch.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsWill FerrellChristina ApplegateSteve CarellIn the 1970s, an anchorman's stint as San Diego's top-rated newsreader is challenged when an ambitious newswoman becomes his co-anchor.First time through was pretty hilarious, Ron Burgandy is and instant classic but the standout for sure was Steve Carell as Brick.
- DirectorSylvester StalloneStarsSylvester StalloneTalia ShireBurt YoungRocky Balboa proudly holds the world heavyweight boxing championship, but a new challenger has stepped forward: Drago, a six-foot-four, 261-pound fighter who has the backing of the Soviet Union. This was by far Rocky's greatest triumph as this film gives the perfect amount of workout montage to boxing. Rocky is more jaxed than ever and fights perhaps the most dangerous man in the world Ivan Drago...the freakish Dolph Lundgren.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonNicolas CageChloë Grace MoretzDave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.The only movie I rated a 9 that made this list but still a wonderful film. The scene where Kick-Ass saves the gang member from a brutal beat down is a pretty phenomenal scene. The film would have probably gotten a 10 if not for Nick Cage's absurd screaming in the burning scene.
