Antonio Banderas, one of Spain's most famous faces, was a soccer player until breaking his foot at the age of fourteen; he is now an international movie star known for playing Zorro in the eponymous movie series.
He was born José Antonio Domínguez Banderas on August 10, 1960, in Málaga, Andalusia, Spain. His father, Jose Dominguez, was a policeman in the Spanish civil guards. His mother, Doña Ana Banderas Gallego, was a school teacher. Young Banderas was brought up a Roman Catholic. He wanted to play soccer professionally and made much success playing for his school team until the age of 14, albeit his dream ended when he broke his foot. At that time, he developed a passion for theatre after seeing the stage production of "Hair". Banderas began his acting studies at the School of Dramatic Arts in Málaga, and made his acting debut at a small theatre in Málaga. He was arrested by the Spanish police for performance in a play by Bertolt Brecht, because of political censorship under the rule of General Francisco Franco. Banderas spent a whole night at the police station, he had three or four such arrests while he was working with a small theatre troupe that toured all over Spain and was giving performances in small town theatres and on the street.
In 1979, at age 19, he moved to Madrid in pursuit of an acting career. Being a struggling young actor, he also worked as a waiter and took small modeling jobs. At that time, he joined the troupe at the National Theatre of Spain, becoming the youngest member of the company. Banderas' stage performances caught the attention of movie director Pedro Almodóvar, who cast the young actor in his movie debut Labyrinth of Passion (1982). Banderas and Almodovar joined forces in making innovative and sexually provocative movies during the 1980s. In 1984, Banderas made headlines in Spain with his performance as a gay man, making his first male-to-male on-screen kiss in Almodovar's Law of Desire (1987). Banderas' long and fruitful collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar eventually prepared him for international recognition that came with his work in the Academy Award-nominated film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988). In 1991, he appeared as an object of Madonna's affection in Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991).
In 1992, Banderas made his Hollywood debut with The Mambo Kings (1992). Because he did not speak English at that time, his dialogue for the movie was taught to him phonetically. Banderas shot to international fame with his sensitive performance as a lover of Tom Hanks' AIDS-infected lawyer in Philadelphia (1993), then played opposite Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994). Banderas further established himself as one of Hollywood's leading men after co-starring in Evita (1996) opposite Madonna in the title role. In 1998, he won acclaim for his portrayal of Zorro, opposite Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in The Mask of Zorro (1998). For the role as Zorro, Banderas took training with the Olympic national fencing team in Spain, and practiced his moves with real steel swords, then he used the lighter aluminum swords in the movie. He also took a month-long course of horse-riding before the filming. He later returned to the role in The Legend of Zorro (2005). In 1999, Banderas made his directorial debut in Crazy in Alabama (1999), starring his wife, Melanie Griffith. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros opposite Salma Hayek in Frida (2002). He voiced Puss in Boots in the Shrek franchise.
Banderas established himself as internationally known Latin heartthrob with charismatic looks, and was chosen as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People magazine in 1996. He won numerous awards and nominations for his works in film, including three ALMA awards and three Golden Globe nominations, among many other. From 1996 to 2014, Banderas was married to American actress Melanie Griffith and the couple have one daughter, Stella (born 1996). Outside of his acting profession, Banderas has been a passionate soccer fan and a staunch supporter of the Real Madrid Football Club. He shares time between his two residencies, one in the United States, and one in the South of Spain.- Actor

"The Little Nightingale", as he was widely known in Spain when he became a widely successful child star, had a very troubled childhood that led to an even more troubled life as an adult. José Jiménez Fernández was born in Beas de Segura (Jaén, Andalucía, Spain), on February 11, 1943, although some sources claim it was in 1947, due to false advertising by the studios that made his movies, and which wanted to make him appear younger than he really was (an obsession that haunted him through the whole of his career), pretending he was 9 at the moment of his debut, when he actually was 13.
Discovered as a singer by Luis Mariano, who got him to perform in France, Joselito was introduced to the movie business in 1956 by Antonio del Amo, who directed him in his first feature, El pequeño ruiseñor (1957) ("The Little Nightingale"), where he earned his famous nickname. Spanish film studios were looking for a new child star to follow the steps of Pablito Calvo, and make popular and populist folkloric movies, which were big box-office hits in Spain during Francisco Franco's dictatorship.
After several movies and records, and already a big star as a singer and an actor in Europe, the next move was trying to triumph in America, so Joselito went to Mexico where he filmed various projects, starting by Aventuras de Joselito y Pulgarcito (1960), which paired him with Mexican child star Cesáreo Quezadas 'Pulgarcito' to grant local box-office. His success even reached the USA, where he appeared to great acclaim in The Ed Sullivan Show (1948) with Ed Sullivan. However, life was not too glamorous for Joselito, as he was treated almost as a sideshow act by his managers, not allowing him to become the teenager he was (that was a milestone in Spanish "child prodigies" under Franco: trying to keep them as little kids for as long as possible), and even locking him in his room between rehearsals so he couldn't meet girls. He was forced to keep his childlike image up to 1969 (when he was in his mid-twenties), when he appeared in his last film, Prisionero en la ciudad (1969). But, as his voice had long broken, he was not successful anymore and he retired, disappearing from public life until it was discovered much later that he had become a heroin addict and even worked as a mercenary in Africa.
An attempt of a comeback as an adult proved unsuccessful, as the tastes of the audience had changed, and his voice didn't resemble the one he had as a kid, so Joselito definitely retired from show business to his home in Utiel (Valencia, Spain), where he, now clean and sober, lives a quiet life far from movie and recording studios.- Nathalie Seseña was born in 1967 in Madrid, Madrid, Spain. She is an actress, known for La Celestina (1996), Teresa y Vanessa (1996) and Canícula (2002).
- Miguel Ángel Silvestre was born on 6 April 1982 in Castelló, Comunitat Valenciana, Spain. He is an actor, known for Sin tetas no hay paraíso (2008), Ferdinand (2017) and Sense8 (2015).

Miguel Ángel Muñoz belongs to that distinguished group of actors who, without being a member of a family of performers, seemed destined for the stage and show business since birth. He is not the sort of person whose image crystallized at a particular moment in time: he acts, dances, and sings naturally, in a very spontaneously way, as he was born to do. It comes so naturally to him that it is unthinkable that he pursue a different line of work.
These natural talents led him to debut on the silver screen at the age of 9 with a leading role in El palomo cojo, directed by Jaime de Armiñán (who some years earlier came within a hair's breadth of winning the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for Mi querida señorita). Miguel Ángel's great artistic sensibility and capabilities secured him work in the cinema, theatre, television, dance and the recording industry before he was twenty, and he has enjoying great acclaim throughout the course of his career.
Due to his innate qualities and talents, his track record to date is spectacular. Miguel Ángel Muñoz has proved himself to be an actor with a wide range of registers, who defies typecasting in any genre. He is capable of taking on parts in comedy, drama, humor, tragedy or musicals, be it on film, on stage, or on television. In other words: he is an actor in the broadest sense of the word. Yet one thing about Miguel Ángel Muñoz deserves special emphasis. His natural acting talent has been, and no doubt will continue to be, the key asset in his professional career. His human qualities are impressive, both at a personal level and as demonstrated in his work. We mean not only that he is a tireless worker and a responsible, level-headed person, but also someone with a striking ability to create a magnificent working atmosphere wherever he works.
Miguel Ángel Muñoz -having tasted notable success at an early age- has always managed to keep his feet firmly on the ground. He has a sixth sense for detecting tensions common to this line of work and creating harmonious environments as well as developing personal relationships with his colleagues. All of the directors, actors, production teams, etc., that have worked alongside him can vouch for this. We mention this since it is undoubtedly another key aspect in the development of his method of work.
On film he has worked in drama, comedy, terror, epic and even animation dubbing Brad Pitt's voice in DreamWorks' production Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas. He has made appearances in numerous TV series in Spain, in various types of roles, often as the leading man, as in Un Paso Adelante (the series with greatest sales in the history of Spanish television) or El Sindrome de Ulises (The Ulysses' Syndrome), which FOX is preparing to remake for the USA.
His stage roles include the narrator of Mozart's first opera, Bastien und Bastienne at the Teatro Real of Madrid, one of the most prestigious theatres in Europe, and the starring role of Antonio Skármeta's El cartero de Neruda (The Postman), in which he gave an outstanding performance. He has recorded albums that have sold in the thousands both in Spain and abroad, bringing him several Platinum records.
He has performed live music as a special guest at the San Remo Festival, and alongside artists of the stature of Janet Jackson.
More detailed information can be found in his resume.
While he could have carried on with his musical career thanks to the sales of his records throughout Europe and the success of his live performances, instead Miguel Ángel Muñoz has channeled his professional efforts into acting, thus heeding the powerful call he has heard since the days of his youth. After he completing his role in the remake of Ben Hur, directed by Steve Shill (The Tudors, Rome, Dexter), he perfected his already advanced English. This has enabled him to act in both Spanish and English with equal ease, be it in feature films, on stage, or on the small screen.
Miguel Ángel has not stopped working since beginning his career over 20 years ago. Films like No controles directed by Borja Cobeaga (short film nominated for an Oscar), the short film Adios Papá, Adios mama, nominated for the 25th Goya Awards, for which Miguel Ángel received the award for best actor in the Alfas del Pi Festival, or Tension Sexual no Resuelta are among his latest titles in this recent years.
In addition, last years has been especially intense in Miguel Ángel Muñoz's professional career as an actor, as he has been involved in many projects in the field of cinema, TV and theatre, both nationally and internationally. One of these projects has been his role as one of the main characters in What about love, together with Sharon Stone and Andy García. The international film was directed by Klaus Menzel with a script by the Oscar award-winner Douglas Day Stweart (An Officer and a Gentleman).
Furthermore, he has played a leading part in the cast of the successful HBO series Capadocia, first broadcast in Latin America, and nominated for three International Emmy Awards, whose USA broadcast launch will be in September 2013.
In addition to the aforementioned projects, the TV series Infames launched and broadcast in Cadena 3 México and Mundo Fox in the USA also occupies a special place, since it broke all viewer records for the network and sparked sharp controversy by addressing political subjects while a change of government was underway in Mexico. Miguel Ángel Muñoz will also take part in the cast for the film Viral, by Lucas Figueroa - who in 2010 achieved the Guinness World Record for directing and producing the most acclaimed short film in history, Por qué hay cosas que nunca se olvidan. Miguel Ángel is also part of the cast of the feature film Al final todos mueren (Eventually they all die), a project sponsored and coordinated by Javier Fesser.
His last series "Sin Identidad" (2014-2015) has been one of the most successful projects in the Spanish and Italian TV in the last years.
As the culmination of a brilliant career, Miguel Ángel Muñoz stars in the film "Hablar" directed by Joaquin Oristrell. This "one shot film" was presented in the 18th Malaga Film Festival receiving the best price from the young jury and Miguel's performance was acclaimed by the critic. In the more than 20 years of his professional career, Miguel Ángel Muñoz has been, and continues to be involved in an ongoing learning process, and he never ceases to grow as an actor: he placed himself in the hands of the master Juan Carlos Corazza in Madrid, he trained in Integrative Psychology in the S.A.T. Program in Argentina with Claudio Naranjo and subsequently studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles. In 2015 he finished the Hoffman Process with Luis Fernando Camara.- Actress

Personal life
Mario Casas, has 4 siblings. Born in La Coruña, although very young, at just 4 years old, he left with his family to Barcelona. Later, at the age of 18, he emigrated to the Spanish capital in an adventure in which he took his whole family with him.
His parents were very young when they had him; his mother, Heidi, was only 17 and his father, Ramon, 19. Only a year and a half later they had their sister, so they were very young and had two children. For Mario, his father is his "reference", while his mother, like his brothers, are his "confidants".
His mother has been raising her children, while his father is a cabinetmaker, but has also done construction and renovation work. Because of this work, his father had no problems moving to another city, so they decided to accompany Mario when he left for Madrid and settled with him in the city.
Mario has four other brothers and sisters, forming what he defines as "a Sicilian family", a family with many children established around a "matriarch". Mario, is the oldest of them all. He is followed by his sister Sheila, and two other brothers, named Christian and Oscar. Finally, the youngest member of the family, Daniel, who was born in 2014, and whom he considers almost as his "nephew" because of the enormous age difference.
He gets along well with all of them, although especially with his sister Sheila, as they have grown up together. Mario, a loyal tattoo lover, has one dedicated to each of his parents and siblings, with the initials of each one.
He remembers his childhood as "wonderful", although he had a bit of a hard time because he was given "a lot of cane" for being short, even the girls. He developed very late, until he was 15 years old, he continued to have the body of a child. Even so, he has always been a flirt, and had his first "girlfriend" at the age of 4.
As a child he liked everything: singing, dancing, ping-pong, football.... He says he liked to try everything, although he admits that he got tired fast. His professional career began as an "advertisement child", as he was involved in advertising as a child. He advertised Cola Cao, Telepizza, Scalextric... He eventually decided to become an actor after he had enrolled the Cristina Rota School of Dramatic Arts
He also keeps "lifelong" friends from school. They are the ones he made when he arrived in Barcelona and have always been with him. In his words, true friends who you can count on the fingers of one hand.
Over the years he dated a few fellow actresses he starred with in movies such as María Valverde and Berta Vázques. Since 2018, he is in a relationship with famous Spanish actress Blanca Suarez he played with in movies/tv shows such as: Carne de Neon (2010), El Barco (2011-2013), Mi Gran Noche (2015), and El Bar (2017).- Actress

Member of the Spanish comic duo "Cruz y Raya", together with Juan Muñoz. They met in military service in 1985, and after leaving it they decided to go to Madrid in search of adventure, where they started their first show, known as '60 personajes en busca de humor' ('60 characters in search of humor'), imitating many famous people. This first show was very successful and soon they were given the opportunity to act at 'Caribiana', one of the most important night clubs in Madrid, where they performed until they got a contract with 'Windsor' hall on Gran Vía street, where they acted for two years, until they reached the honor of being the kings of independent humor. Later, they started their radio career, with several programs ('Viva la gente divertida' (Antena 3 channel), Luis del Olmo), and Javier Sardà, who made them known to a big audience). Hugo Stuven gave them the opportunity to make their debut on TV with a slot in the program _"Pero ¿esto que es?" (1989)_ (TVE channel). After this they got a whole TV program for themselves on channel Tele 5, and finally they went back to TVE with a collaboration in Raffaella Carrà's program 'Hola Raffaella'. In 1990 they made their debut in cinema with the film Ni se te ocurra... (1991), with a warm reception from the audience. Their next occupation was TV, doing special programs such as 'Colón Pirata' and 'No Smoking', the latter being nominated for the 'TP de Oro' award as the Best Special Program of 1993. During the summer of that year they had their own program, "Abierto por vacaciones", which was #1 with audiences during its whole broadcast period. Their first 'hard' test arrived with 1993's New Year's Eve. The comic duo 'Martes y Trece' decided to rest that year and TVE asked them to do the 1993 New Year's Eve's TV Special. They accepted and made a program named 'Este año, Cruz y Raya ¡Seguro!', after which the famous 12 bell strokes were broadcast live. From that moment on Cruz y Raya have always had their own program in TVE. In 1994 they made the series 'Perdiendo el juicio', 'VayaTele' and also the summer special 'Aquí hemos venido a lo que hemos venido', all of them with great success. From September 1995 until April 1996 they entertained the audience with a 30 minute series filled with sketches mixed with imitations and music events, and this series also reached #1 in audience during Friday nights. This success was unexpected for an only-humor program, and the next year they were back with a second season, with more or less the same format. In 1998, after a well-deserved rest from TV, they were back at TVE with the series Este no es el programa de los viernes (1998), their most successful appearance so far. Their comic phrases started to be heard in people's voice here and there ('Ja me maaten', 'Le quiero, Don Puente'). 1999 saw the appearance of their new success Estamos en directo (1999), and at the end of the year they made the TVE 2000 New Year's Eve special: En efecto 2000 (1999). This program shared an incredible 50% of the audience. In 2000 they made the series Cruz y raya.com (2000), in their classic format. At the end of 2000 they made the TVE 2001 New Year's Eve special again, titled this time 2001 aunque sea en el espacio (2000), which also reached a 50% share. In cinema, they had dubbed several animation films (Goomer (1999), Mulan (1998) (José), or the parrot of 102 Dalmatians (2000) (José, too). Juan made his debut as director with the film ¡Ja me maaten...! (2000), and José performed a little role as a beach watcher in the film Torrente 2: Misión en Marbella (2001), and also a collaboration in the soundtrack. Nowadays they both are preparing several projects on their own, but their separation is very unlikely.- Actor

Sara Montiel was born in the village of Campo de Criptana, province of Ciudad Real, in the region of Castille-La Mancha, Spain. Her parents were Isidoro Abad, a peasant, and Maria Vicenta Fernández, a door-to-door beautician. The future star was christened Maria Antonia Alejandra Abad Fernández. Barely in her teens, she won a beauty and talent contest held by Cifesa, the most influential Spanish film studio of that era. She was promptly signed to a movie contract and in 1944 made her debut playing a teenager in Te quiero para mí (1944), credited in the cast as "Maria Alejandra". By the end of 1944 she was given the starring role in Empezó en boda (1944), which introduced her with a more adult image and a new name: Sara Montiel.
In the next four years she appeared in 14 films, including her first international success Locura de amor (1948), which led to a long term-contract in Mexico. She quickly established herself as one of the most popular film actors of the decade. starring in over a dozen films between 1950 and 1954. Hollywood came calling and she was formally introduced to American moviegoers in Vera Cruz (1954), playing Gary Cooper's love interest. Later she worked at Warner Bros. in Serenade (1956) with Mario Lanza, directed by Anthony Mann, who became her first husband. After starring in Samuel Fuller's Run of the Arrow (1957) with Rod Steiger, Sarita shot El último cuplé (1957) ("The Last Song") in Spain, a musical production that turned out to be the biggest box-office success in Spain's film history. It played for over a year in the same theaters in which it opened. A similar reaction followed in Western Europe and Latin America. Sarita Montiel had become the most popular actress-singer of 1957 and a national treasure for Spain.
The unprecedented success of "El Último Cuplé" threw a wrench into her Hollywood career, as she was offered a multimillion-dollar contract to star in four films in Europe. Her next vehicle, La violetera (1958) ("The Violet Peddler"), confirmed Sara's popularity and broke the box-office records set by the previous movie. The theme song from "La Violetera" became Montiel's signature song. The soundtrack albums from both films reportedly outsold Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra in the world market. From then on, Sarita would combine the making of films with the recording of highly successful albums and live concerts in four continents. By 1962 she had become a legend to millions of fans worldwide, reaching markets that had previously been uncharted territory for Spanish cinema. Among her many blockbusters of the 1960s were Mi último tango (1960), Pecado de amor (1961), La bella Lola (1962), La reina del Chantecler (1962) and Esa mujer (1969).
However, by the 1970s her interest in films diminished, due largely to the almost pornographic turn of Spanish films in the late-Francisco Franco era when censorship was abolished and she retired from films in 1974. Her activities turned mainly to recording and stage work, and she achieved uncontested successes with her stage shows "Sara en Persona" (1970-73), "Saritísima" (1974-75), "Increible Sara" (1977-78), "Super Sara Show"(1979-80), "Doña Sara de La Mancha" (1981-82), "Taxi Vamos Al Victoria" (1983-84), "Nostalgia" (1985-86), "Sara, Siempre Sara" (1987-88) and others.
In the 1990s Sara surprised everyone by branching out into television: Sara y punto (1990), a mini-series of seven one-hour episodes, included a serialized biography of the star, many popular guests (including Luciano Pavarotti and Charles Aznavour, among others) and Miss Montiel singing her greatest hits in addition to new songs written especially for her. Next came Ven al Paralelo (1992), taped in a Barcelona theater where Montiel hosted, sang and acted in comedy sketches in front of a live audience.
It is quite impossible to cover here all the awards Sara Montiel has won in her long successful career but we must mention the "Premio del Sindicato" (at that time Spain's equivalent of the Oscar) for best actress, won two years in a row for her performances in "El Último Cuplé" and "La Violetera". In 1972 she was proclaimed an honorary citizen of Los Angeles by Mayor Sam Yorty and was given the gold key to the city. Similarly she has been awarded the gold keys of New York, Miami and Chicago. In 1981 she received Israel's most prestigious honor, the Ben Guiron Award and in 1983 she was awarded France's Legion of Honor medal, after a retrospective of her career ran at the Autumn Film Festival in Paris. In 1986 "Nosotros", a Hollywood-based Hispanic actors advocacy organization founded by Ricardo Montalban, gave her its Golden Eagle Award for life achievement. The trophy was presented to Sarita by her "Vera Cruz" costar-producer Burt Lancaster in an emotional reunion that triggered a standing ovation from all their Hollywood peers witnessing the event. In 1997 she was awarded the "Gold Medal", also a life achievement recognition, given--rarely0--by Spain's Academy of Arts and Sciences. The two-hour ceremony was beamed live by national television. In 2008 Sara returned to her hometown to unveil a sculpture with her image at the new Sara Montiel Park. A nearby avenue was also named after her and there was at the same time a dedication ceremony of her newly renovated museum, located inside a 16th-century windmill. In addition, the government placed a commemorative plaque on the house where she was born.
Sara Montiel's private life has also been a large part of her legend. After divorcing Anthony Mann in 1963, she married three more times (Vicente Ramirez Olalla 1964-1978; Jose Tous 1979-1992; Antonio Hernandez 2002-2004). Before, during and after these marriages she had countless affairs, among them Nobel prize-winning scientist Severo Ochoa and Italian actor Giancarlo Del Duca. Unable to have children, she adopted two during her marriage to Jose Tous: Thais (born in 1979) and Zeus (born 1983). In 2000 she published her autobiography, which became a best seller. Undaunted by the passage of time and ignoring critics who accused her of mishandling her legendary image, Sara Montiel continued living and working at a hectic pace. She kept touring with her one woman show and making guests appearances on television. In 2009 she won a new generation of fans when she recorded "Absolutamente," an outrageous duet with Fangoria's vocalist Alaska. Both the record and the promotional video reached the top of the popularity charts and remained there for weeks.
Next Sara recorded some love duets with baritone José Antonio Román Marcos and traveled to the United States for a short tour sponsored by New York's Cervantes Institute and the universities of Chicago and Cincinnati. In every city she charmed the audiences with her charismatic presence and sense of humor. Back in Spain she continued her activities which now included supporting the singing career of her son Zeus. She appeared in his 2011 "Sex Dance" video and caused quite a stir.
In February 2013 Sara Montiel became the subject of a made-for-TV documentary titled "Sara's Dream" which aired in Spain to high ratings and great reviews. It was a fitting celebration of her fantastic life and career which came at the right time. A couple of months later, the star who had seemed eternal, passed away suddenly and quietly in her Madrid penthouse. By her family's request, funeral services were private but the funeral procession, organized by the city of Madrid, was a very moving event attended by thousands who showed up at Plaza Callao to bid farewell to their beloved Sara. She was buried in the San Justo cemetery family plot.- Juan José Ballesta was only nine when he debuted in the TV series Querido maestro (1997) but his real break came when director Achero Mañas gave him the title role in his sensitive Truffaut-like tale of two youths Pellet (2000). The film garnered lots of awards, of which young Juan José got a fairly impressive share, namely the 2001 Best Actor Award given by the Cinema Writers Circle of Spain, the 2001 Best New Actor Goya and 2001 the Newcomer Award by the Spanish Actors Union. Now aged twenty-three, Juan José is still present on the Spanish screens and is on the way for a long career.

Paul Naschy reigns supreme as the true king of Spanish horror cinema. He was born Jacinto Molina Alvarez on September 6, 1934, in Madrid, Spain. His father ran a successful fur business. Naschy grew up during the Spanish Civil War, and sought escape from the real-life horrors around him in adventure comics and movie serials; he often cited seeing Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) in a theater at age 11 as a seminal inspirational experience (his later movies would be filled with references to it). A talented athlete, Naschy played soccer for the school team and was a weightlifter who became the lightweight champion of Spain in 1958. Moreover, Paul penned Western pulp novels under the pseudonym Jack Mills and worked as an illustrator who did album cover art for a Spanish record label. Thanks to his muscular build, Naschy was able to break into the motion picture business in the early 1960s as an uncredited extra in such films as "King of the Vikings"--El príncipe encadenado (1960)--and the biblical epic King of Kings (1961).
In 1967 he wrote the script for Frankenstein's Bloody Terror (1968). He was forced, out of necessity, to play the lead role of tormented werewolf Waldermar Daninsky after Lon Chaney Jr. turned it down. He reprised this character in over a dozen subsequent sequels. Naschy's portrayals of the anguished and sympathetic werewolf Daninsky became his signature part and consolidated his enduring cult status as a bona-fide horror icon. Other significant horror figures Paul played were the Mummy, Jack the Ripper, Dracula (his performance as the Prince of Darkness in Count Dracula's Great Love (1973) was one of his personal favorites), the Hunchback, the Frankenstein Monster, the Phantom of the Opera, and even the Devil. Naschy made his directorial debut with Inquisition (1977). The film "Howl of the Devil"--Howl of the Devil (1988)--was one of Paul's most personal projects and finest artistic achievements.
Naschy had a major heart attack in 1991, but fully recovered and kept soldiering on. He wrote his autobiography, "Memoirs of a Wolfman," in 1997. His career gained new momentum in the early 21st century. Paul was especially memorable as the vicious title character in School Killer (2001) and had an excellent autobiographical leading role as bitter, washed-up veteran horror actor Pablo Thevenet in Rojo sangre (2004). Naschy was inducted into the Fangoria Hall of Fame in 2000 and was the recipient of the Gold Medal Award in Fine Arts in Spain in 2001. Moreover, he also did interviews and commentaries for DVD releases of his movies. Paul was still acting when he died of pancreatic cancer at age 75 on November 30, 2009, in Madrid, Spain.
Although he's sadly no longer with us, Naschy's extremely rich, varied and impressive horror cinema legacy will continue to scare, shock, and delight audiences throughout the world for all eternity.- Juan Luis Galiardo was born on 2 March 1940 in San Roque, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain. Rocío Durcal, was born María de los Angeles de las Heras Ortíz, in Madrid, Spain on October 4th, 1945. At the age of 10, she took part in the radio show, 'Conozca a sus Vecinos' ('Meet Your Neighbours'). In these shows, Marietta (her familiar nickname, pronounced Mar-ee-etta) charmed the audience with her clear and melodic voice that also made her a winner in many other radio contests that she participated in those years.
In 1960, when she not yet 15, she appeared in the TV show 'Primer Aplauso' ('First Applause') where a Spanish movie producer discovered her. She took the stage name Rocío Durcal (Rocío is a popular girls' name in Spain, after the place of pilgrimage where 'La Romeria' - an annual festival of worship to the Virgin Mary - is held, and Durcal is a town in the province of Andalucia in southern Spain). Her first movie was 'Canción de Juventud' ('Song of Youth') in 1961, the first of many musical comedies she was to star in and that would gain her fame in Spain, Portugal, France and Latin America.
At this time many other young singer-actors in Spanish films were popular, including Raphael, Marisol, Ana Belén, Joselito, the Dúo Dinámico, Miguel Ríos, and the twin sisters, Pili and Mili. Other films included 'Rocío de La Mancha', 'La Chica del Trébol', 'Tengo 17 Años', 'Más Bonita que Ninguna', 'Acompáñame', 'Amor en el Aire', 'Cristina Guzmán', 'Las Leandras' and 'La Novicia Rebelde'.
In 1970, Rocío married the Philippine singer and composer, Antonio Morales , better known as Júnior, a former member of the pop group, Los Brincos (considered at the time as the Spanish version of The Beatles). Their marriage proved one of the more solid marriages in the world of show business and they had three children: Carmen María (born in 1971), Antonio (born in 1974) and Shaila (born in 1980), and one grandson, Christian (born in 1997, the son of Carmen María).
In 1975, Rocío retired from movies to dedicate herself to her family but returned to show business two years later when she recorded the first of many records of material written by the Mexican singer-composer, Juan Gabriel. Backed by the Mexican band, Mariachi América, these resulted in unexpected hits, popularity and awards, not only in Spain and Mexico, but also in Latin America and in the Hispanic community of the United States.
Rocío Durcal (ironically, being Spanish) revitalised the Mexican music scene in the 1970s and 80s and became even better known as a singer of 'rancheras' (traditional Mexican song) in her later years than she had been as an actress at the start of her career.
With thousands of fans worldwide and records sales in their millions, this Madrid-born lady was, undoubtedly, one of the brightest stars of Spanish language show business.
In 2001, Rocio Durcal was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus that unfortunately was later found to have spread to her lung and brain. Despite extensive treatment, Rocio died on 25 March 2006 in Torrelodones, Madrid, Spain.- Actor
