I should be excited for these films but I'm not
These are major movies coming out that I will see, but I'm not looking forward to them. Some of these films might be good, while others will be bad, and you can't tell me the movie is going to be great. Because in 2002 you knew men in black II was going to be great, in 2010, you knew Iron Man 2 was going to be great, and in 1999 you knew the phantom menace was going to be good. You cant tell before hand if a movie will be good or bad (with some exceptions) until you see it. And I will not say these movies are good or bad until I see them.

- DirectorBaz LuhrmannStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCarey MulliganJoel EdgertonA writer and wall street trader, Nick Carraway, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby, amid the riotous parties of the Jazz Age.I was interested by this movies concept, but then I saw the first trailer. It looks exactly like Moulin Rouge, seeing how both films have the same director that doesn't surprise me. I haven't read the book this is based off of, but seeing how faithful Baz Lunrmann was to Romeo + Juliet, I am a little worried. With that said the film does look stunning! And who knows if I don't like the story I could find it to be a guilty pleasure.
But of I like or not, we are all going to have to wait even longer, as this movie was just moved from December to sometime next summer. Now I get why they moved G.I Joe 2 to 2013, sure it was to convert it to 3D but when you look at it a little closer you realize that if the movie did come out on June 29th, it would have to compete with Amazing Soiderman, Ted, the dark knight rises, Katy Perry, Savages (which proved not to be any competition) and Brave. The movie on the other hand had only Django Unchaiend and The Hobbit to worry about, so it would have done pretty well, not to mention it would have had a better chance at getting best picture since a majority of recent best picture nominees came out in fall and winter. Warner Bros. says the reason they moved the release date was so it could get the highest audience possible. But it also means it will have more competition at the box office, instead of just two movies. So yeah, I'm upset but it might all be worth the wait. - DirectorJon M. ChuStarsDwayne JohnsonChanning TatumAdrianne PalickiThe G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. To quickly gets this out of the way: why did they get the director of never say never to direct this?
Anyway the trailers look awful. They give away way too much and have horrible sound tracks (mostly a subjective problem there) And the whole "our team has been killed off" plot point was already done very well in Mission Impossible and the "we have to prove our team is innocent" plot point was used in Ghost Protocol! Not to mention it has Bruce Willis in it. Not to say thats bad, he is a badass, but he'll take screen time away from the team, you know? The people this movie is about! I was going to see it next month, but now I can't, because they moved its release date to March 2013!! Why?! For 3D conversion. Aparently the studio saw how good titanic 3D looked, but they didn't see how horrible the converted 3D in Avengers and Tintin was! Maybe it will be worth it, but I really doubt it - DirectorDan ScanlonStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve BuscemiA look at the relationship between Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sully" Sullivan during their days at Monsters University, when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.Monsters inc isn't one of my favorite Pixar films, it isnt bad, I just don't really like it. That and I don't really see what a prequel to a pretty stand alone film can do. It does look better than Cars 2 I'll give it that
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe. For a while now Marvel has been saying that they have a mystery superhero movie in the works that will lead up to the avengers 2, after finding out that this was one of the possible choices I said "there's no way marvel would risk so much money making this into a movie." Well they are taking that risk my friends, they're taking possibly the biggest risk they've ever done, ever.
I've never read the comics and I didn't even know it existed, so I looked up some stuff about it, and oh god.. is this stupid. Just looking at the concept art makes my head hurt, this concept couldn't and will not sell to audiences, not just because it looks stupid. It's leading up to a superhero team movie, by having multiple superheroes in this movie. If they are going to have all the characters here that will be even more of a challenge for the writers of avengers 2 (not sure if Joss Whedon signed on yet) to make over 10 characters relevant. This is why I never liked any of the x men movies, Not just last stand and beyond, I mean every x men movie. They cram way too many characters into the movie, making some of them more relevant than others. Not only will it be hard to write that but just imagine how stupid it will be to see Robert Downey jr play off of a taking raccoon with a gun. Assuming all the money that will be put into this and considering that I will not see this movie until it comes out on DVD this will most likely be the biggest box office failure Marvel has ever done, the guardians of the galaxy comics don't even sell, so how is a movie going be any different? Disney stopped me from seeing John Carter due to its terrible marketing (ironically I ended up really liking that movie) and wouldn't you know it, the terrible advertising stopped everyone from seeing it because many websites say that that film is the biggest box office failure of all time. But at least with John Carter the earlier trailers got me interested, I can't think of any way the marketing could make me or anyone else want to see this. And oh yeah good luck finding a director and writer who will have a vision for this movie, it's not like the other movies in this universe where all the directors have some good reason. I can't think of anyone who could and would want to make this, but they are making this, for whatever reason.
This just in: Marvel is getting one of their executives to write a script and getting the guy who wrote the Scooby Doo movie and directed tromeo and Juliet to direct this. Marvel has made some odd choices with directors, but at least those directors had good movies under their belt! Alright yes, he also directed super, but that is the only good movie he has his name attached to. Now a lot of people are saying that since Nathan Fillion was in Slither (also directed by this guy) and Super that he will be in this movie, I don't see why people say that and I also hope that he isn't. Just because he was in 2 movies that this guy directed doesn't mean he'll want to work with him again, it's like when Edgar Wright was assigned to direct Ant Man, everyone thought that Simon Pegg would play Ant Man, I do like Pegg but I think he would be miscasted as ant man. Everyone else thought Nathon Fillion would play Ant Man, which would be cool but Nathon did say he has no interest in doing so. I hope he isn't attached with this movie for a few reasons, the first being there isn't a character in this movie that he could play, maybe the lead but that would be a stretch. It's also a possibility that the director of Yes Man will direct this, meaning that who ever directs this movie, the movie will have a sense of humor. Well that's good because I don't think I could take this seriously. - DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth. That's right, I am at the same time excited and not looking forward to this movie.
Now this is mostly because of the 2 trailers that came out in July, both of which I feel don't sell as teasers to a superman movie. Even if I wasn't looking forward to the dark knight rises I can at least say the teaser trailer from last year got me interested. These don't... At all.
My problem with the John Kent trailer is that Clark's dad would not tell Clark that his very existence would change the world, he would say that he would have to earn the ability to change the world. My problem with the Jor El trailer was that this Jor El is an idiot, no offense to Russell Crowe. Jor El couldn't get a single person to believe him when he said that Krypton was going to explode, so why the hell is he telling his son that people will rally behind him? (more on that in a minute) What he should have said was that he will do great things even if no one notices.
I saw another review of these trailers saying that from the looks of the kent farm this movie will most likely talk about the economic problems in the midwest. I only have one question with that, what does that have to do with Superman? I understand why The Dark Knight spends so much time talking about the mob, and the crime, and shows all the inter workings of Gordon's police force, because the movie was about that stuff. It made sense for a realistic batman movie to show all that. A realistic Superman movie should not show the economic problems of the midwest, because it has nothing to do with superman!
Also why is Clark a fisherman? Clark was raised by the Kents to help the community, he would not take the most loner job possible. And even if they didnt get the rights from DC to make Clark a fireman, there are still a dozen other jobs that could help the community better! A policeman, a construction worker, a doctor just to name a few. More on this in a second
Back to what I said earlier. Jor El tells his son that he will do great things and people will rally behind him, and Clark is a fisherman for the people, sound familiar? Think about it. I'll wait. That's right! They're turning Superman into Jesus again!! I can't stand it when movies do that. For a very good reason. Superman has a character, he is a community man, he will help people because he believes that it is the right thing to do, he sees himself as part of a group, not the leader. Throwing that all away and making him a Christ figure didn't work in Superman Returns and it won't work here. Doing this is like what you would get if you put Jesus in Star Wars, oh wait, they did that. Why isn't this trailer getting as much hate as Space Jesus? Because Christopher Nolan has his name attached to this movie! Admit it, if anyone else wrote the exact same script, they would get hated, and rightfully so.
Honestly I'm not impressed by the new trailer. It's more of the John Kent saying non John Kent things, even more focus on the fact that Nolan is involved, and just plain awkward voice overs. My biggest problem with it is that isn't any "woah" moment. Remember last year when you saw the dark knight rises trailer and the football feild collapsed, that's a "woah" moment. The closest this trailer has to that is when they show Clark talkntonhis dad about if he should have or should not have saved those kids. That's interesting to see and I want to see more of that but on a visual excitement level, this is the opposite of the dark knight rises trailer. That trailer was interesting, visually engaging and had that awesome chant in the background. This trailer by comparison is boring. How do you make superman boring?! *superman returns*
So why am I still excited you might ask? It's Superman dude, it's going to lots of good superman action, hopefully. - DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsDanny TrejoAlexa PenaVegaMel GibsonThe U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Machete, but hearing some of the things they were thinking of doing got me interested for a while. They were thinking of casting Charlie Sheen as the president, Mel Gibson as the villain, and follow it up with a sequel called (dead serious here) Machete Kills Again.... In Space. Those things got me interested, but then Robert Rodriguez decided to overkill. Linsday Lohan, Lady Gaga, the girl from spy kids and other over the top celebrities. This movie is literally that guy at the party. You know who I'm talking about, the guy who begins with making a lot of funny jokes but keeps going until the end to the point where you just want him to shut up. That's this movie. The idea originally was funny and could work to an event but now it's so over the top it will be a chore to watch this.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsNicholas HoultStanley TucciEwan McGregorThe ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds. For what ever reason Hollywood thinks that taking fairy tales that everyone knows, adding either twilight or lord of the rings elements to it and taking it completely serious will get them money. Well I guess they're right. This all started with Red Riding Hood and and has since given us Snow White and the Huntsman and will soon give us Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (Absorb that title, take it in) and now this.
Now only do I feel that this "modern fairy tale" genre looks stupid but already after a year of being around, they are already running out of ideas. The trailer for this has some good locations and costumes but then that all gets interrupted by a CG been stalk. After that it feels like this will be a monster movie with a few fantasy elements, and I can't think of any story they could make out of this. Maybe there won't be a story, maybe it will be mindless action. But who knows, all I know is this looks stupid in a bad way and I have no problem waiting for it. - DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartIan McKellenHugh JackmanThe X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. As I said before, I never liked any of the X-men movies. While I don't think the first 2 are good, they at least have effort put into them, then those degraded to X-men 3 and degraded even further to origins: wolverine. X-men first class was the studio trying resurrect a long dead franchise (mostly because they didn't make their samurai wolverine movie yet) they did this by making a prequel, or sequel, or reboot. I don't know exactly what that movie is. And since this movie might reboot the x men franchise entirely that means I'll get even more confused. It isn't like Star trek where they are rebooting a series that hasn't been around since 91, the x men movies are still relevant. And the fact that next summer will have another wolverine movie, that would mean there are 2 different x men storylines happening at the same time in movie theaters.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneJamie FoxxWhen New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones.I hated the first Amazing Spiderman, do you need further explaination?
My biggest problem with the first movie was that it leaves so much open to be resolved in a sequel, and I'm not sure it will all get resolved! Will Peter avenge uncle Ben? Will he find out anything about his parents? Will this movie be able to bring anything to the table that Sam Raimi didn't already do in his trilogy? Probably not - DirectorSam RaimiStarsJames FrancoMichelle WilliamsRachel WeiszA small-time magician is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches. There is absolutely nothing about anything I've seen from this movie that gets me interested to see it. Basically Disney saw how surprisingly successful Alice in Wonderland was and decided that they'll do that for as many franchises as possible. But why?! You can't make a franchise out of this because this is a sequel to the original wizard of oz, so what is the point? You are already trying to make yet another franchise so why bother bringing back a franchise and do nothing else with it? Also the CG looks terrible, whenever you shoot a movie on a green screen, you're bound to have it end up looking fake, but the higher the budget, the worse it gets unless it's avatar but that movie centered themselves around this CG world, you never had real people interact with CG, and when they did, it still looked good! This movie looks really fake but hey, it is directed by Sam Raimi. I'm avoiding this at all costs.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsMark WahlbergNicola Peltz BeckhamJack ReynorWhen humanity allies with a bounty hunter in pursuit of Optimus Prime, the Autobots turn to a mechanic and his family for help.I was excited for the first transformers, I saw it, enjoyed it, and still watch it today. I was even more excited for the sequel, which was absolute garbage, so when the third came out I basically said "Let's get this over with" having a little bit of hope that it would be good. It ended up being the worst of the three. So I'm not even going to bother with this one.
Not to mention this is batman and robin all over again. The studio said that even though dark of the moon is one of the most successful movies of all time, the toys didn't sell, so they're going to add a whole new bunch of characters with the hopes of selling toys. Screw that.
