- DirectorHiroyuki ImaishiStarsKappei YamaguchiTakako HondaYûko MizutaniTwo aliens awaken on Earth with no recollection of their past and embark on a devastating crime spree but are sent to an infamous lunar penitentiary named Dead Leaves.First of all, one of the main characters has a TV for a head. It's a non-stop, action & violence filled fury of disjointed Japanese animation that'll give your eyes AND mind a big heaping bowl of wtf. Only thing linear about this film is the plot. Sort of.
I think the animators must have all been diagnosed with ADHD and were high on acid, pcp, bath salts, crack and Elmer's glue when they made this. Get ready for eyeball rape. - DirectorQuentin DupieuxStarsStephen SpinellaRoxane MesquidaWings HauserA homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession.A movie about a killer tire? That has telekinetic powers? And throughout the film we watch the audience watch the movie? Why was this made?
I'll tell you:
No reason. - DirectorDavid LynchStarsJack NanceCharlotte StewartAllen JosephHenry Spencer tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child.Definitely a fine example of how strange and abstract both Avant-Garde films and David Lynch's mind is.
Interesting (and disturbing) fact about the character's "baby" in the film: Nobody but David Lynch himself actually knows what was used to be the couple's baby. During watches, Lynch even had the projectionist cover his eyes so he didn't know how the mutant baby was made. After the film's completion, Lynch buried the "baby" in an undisclosed location. Talk about creepy. - DirectorChristopher SmithStarsMelissa GeorgeJoshua McIvorJack TaylorFive friends set sail and their yacht is overturned by a strange and sudden storm. A mysterious ship arrives to rescue them, and what happens next cannot be explained. What happens in the Bermuda triangle? Apparently a trippy ride through Hell, but I can't give away details lest I spoil the surprise. The weirdness escalates more and more throughout the movie as the main character tries to figure out what's going on. Again, don't wanna spoil anything. All I gotta say is: sucks to be her.
Added bonus: based off Greek mythology - DirectorDave McKeanStarsStephanie LeonidasJason BarryRob BrydonIn a fantasy world of opposing kingdoms, a fifteen-year-old girl must find the fabled MirrorMask in order to save the kingdom and get home. This is a very enjoyable flick, but weird and sometimes difficult to follow. Best way to describe it, is it's a journey through what could be interpreted as a dream. With the strangest puppetry and coolest special effects, it warps all sense of reality.
- DirectorStephen ChowStarsStephen ChowWei ZhaoYat-Fei WongA young Shaolin follower reunites with his discouraged brothers to form a soccer team using their martial art skills to their advantage. What happens when you mix martial arts with soccer, spice it up with humor, and introduce characters with the uncanny ability to defy laws of physics?
Shaolin Soccer baby! - DirectorTarsem SinghStarsJennifer LopezVince VaughnVincent D'OnofrioAn F.B.I. Agent persuades a social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim. This film takes you literally INTO the mind of a serial killer. So you can guess the psychotic, disturbing and unnerving images you would find there.
So if you've ever wanted to see what the inside of a deranged murderer would be like, or see a horse be cut into a dozen pieces and still live, then this is the film for you. - DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsJude LawJennifer Jason LeighIan HolmA game designer on the run from assassins must play her latest virtual reality creation with a marketing trainee to determine if the game has been damaged. This is virtual reality to the MAX. We will get here someday, in the world if video games, but hopefully it won't turn out the same way. That is, when virtual reality becomes interfused with reality. It'll have you guessing near the end: what is real? What WAS real?
In this film there are organic guns, organic game consoles, and living NPCs. It's a gamer's trip. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsGuy PearceCarrie-Anne MossJoe PantolianoA man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.Tired of the same boring linear Hollywood narratives? Wanna try something different? Well how about a movie that's played BACKWARDS? In this movie, you watch the end scene first, and the first scene last. Every scene lasts a few minutes, and the next scene shows you how we got to the previous scene.
You'll be mad when it ends too. Because it leaves you with too much to think about. I'm all for movies that don't show too much, keep the audiences' imagination going without explaining too much, but this one is like a 5th grade bully holding a 3rd grader's lunch money just barely out of reach. The bully is the movie, the 3rd grader's the audience, and the money is the audiences' grasp on what's going on.
I've seen it 3 times, and I still don't know the full sequential order of the plot. - DirectorTerry GilliamStarsBruce WillisMadeleine StoweBrad PittIn a future world devastated by disease, a convict is sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet.Nothing less from Terry Gilliam, a member of Monty Python. Only this isn't comedy genius, it's a dark sci-fi thriller about the future of the end of the world. Only thing stranger than the movie is Brad Pitt's character, who is satisfyingly insane.
