Nazi occult films
Films that contain Nazi occultism, although this may grade into Nazi superscience or the supernatural where the dividing line is tricky to discern (the latter because the pseudoscience required is so extreme it almost conforms to Clarke's Third Law about science and magic), so it can touch on secret Third Reich bases in Antractica, Nazi UFOs and associated craziness.
Thanks to publications like Morning of the Magicians, there is an undercurrent of suspicion that the Nazis were up to all sorts of occult hi-jinks (beyond the well-known activities of the Ahnenerbe) and these films take that ball and run with it.
In his study of James Herbert's novel The Spear, Nick Freeman looks at the history of our interest in the Nazis, from the relative tame in the post-War years to the lurid in the 60s, with the occult aspects rising in popularity in the 70s:
However, he does point out that the Nazi/occult mix can be dated back to Dennis Wheatley's 1941 novel Strange Conflict, the same date as the first film on this list.

Further reading: The Occult Roots of Nazism, as mentioned in the quote, this is one of the best researched and takes a level-headed approach to the topic as does Arktos: The Polar Myth in Science, Symbolism, and Nazi Survival. Raymond Sickinger's "Hitler and the Occult: The Magical Thinking of Adolf Hitler" is a good quick overview of the debate. Adam Shreve's "'Beunos Noches, Mein Fuhrer': A Look at Nazism in Popular Culture" is a pretty broad look at the influence of the Third Reich on our media. Why the Nazis and the Occult Plotlines in 'The Devil's Rock' Work so Well, a short piece on Nazi occultism in movies and why it is so effective.

Nazi occult experimentation may not have offered the same opportunities for pornographers as death camps and military brothels, but this did not mean that its treatment was any less sensational. Works such as Louis Pauwels and Jacques Bergier’s Le Matin des Magiciens (1960), Trevor Ravenscroft’s The Spear of Destiny (1972), and J. H. Brennan’s still more outlandish Occult Reich (1974) captured the popular imagination. Ravenscroft’s book is still in print, as is its sequel, The Mark of the Beast (1990), and a paperback reprint of Le Matin des Magiciens claimed a million copies had been sold by 1971 alone. All were fixated by supposedly secret or suppressed histories: the 1976 reprint of Brennan’s book boasts that it deals ‘in facts – but facts that orthodox historians ignore.’ Since the appearance of Nicholas Goodrich-Clark’s The Occult Roots of Nazism (1985), such works seem poorly researched and hysterically argued, but they were accorded considerable popular interest in the mid-1970s when Herbert was writing The Spear.
However, he does point out that the Nazi/occult mix can be dated back to Dennis Wheatley's 1941 novel Strange Conflict, the same date as the first film on this list.

After the war, with one friend as his manager and another as his lover, Schneider changes his name to Eric Jan Hanussen and goes to Berlin, as a hypnotist and clairvoyant performing in halls and theaters. He always speaks the truth, which brings him to the attention of powerful Nazis. He predicts their rise (good propaganda for them) and their violence (not so good). He's in pain and at risk. What is Hanussen's future?
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers.Yes those occult-loving Nazis didn't learn their face-melting lesson from the first film so, after a little break for the second film (is it a coincidence that the best two Indy films contain Nazi occultists? It is not) they return again in full force but will need buckets to return their remains to their relatives.

The still youthful monk, now in the modern day, is being pursued by criminals after the scroll, criminals who turn out to be the original Nazis who still hope to use the secret to rule the world (Nazis are always persistent if slightly lacking in competence).
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsRon PerlmanDoug JonesSelma BlairA demon raised from infancy after being conjured by and rescued from the Nazis, grows up to become a defender against the forces of darkness.Hellboy's origin story is full-blown, foot to the floor, rocket-fueled Nazi occultism, throwing in Rasputin for good measure. - DirectorChristian MatzkeStarsKeith AnctilHenry BindbeutelJustin BossAdolf Hitler orders his troops to search the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris for a single tome - the dread Necronomicon. All attempts by Nazi scientists to unlock the secrets of the book fail, until an Arab provides a cipher.
- DirectorAnders BankeStarsPetra NielsenCarl-Åke ErikssonGrete HavnesköldVampires terrorize a city in Norrbotten. No good will ever come from an aging Nazi trying to create the Master Race from vampire blood.
Decent enough vampire film with a 30 Days of Night meets Dead Snow* feel, although the comedy aspect rarely shines through. There were a lot of good ideas in there (talking dogs, possibly the first vampire stakin with a gnome) and nicely done effects but the story was poorly paced and the plotting uneven, with a "was that it?" ending. So, not a must-see (other than completists and those reading this list looking for ) but then again I didn't think I'd wasted my time. Watch it with the original Let The Right One In as a blood-drenched snowy double feature (although perhaps watch this one first so you end on the better film).

Watch on Vimeo - DirectorNiklaas van PoortvlietStarsPaul CosterMay CunninghamSet during WWII. 3 Nazi Officers hunt down two Jewish sisters in the back streets of Warsaw. Poland 1942. The sisters fear an evil far worse than the threat posed by the Gestapo. There is, apparently, a longer cut of the film that gives these scenes more context and it'd be good to see that as it is a little confusing as it currently stands.
Watch on YouTube - DirectorPaul CampionStarsCraig HallMatthew SunderlandGina VarelaSet in the Channel Islands on the eve of D Day, two Kiwi commandos, sent to destroy German gun emplacements to distract Hitler's forces away from Normandy, discover a Nazi occult plot to unleash demonic forces to win the war.A clear an unequivocal film purely focused on the Third Reich's interest in evil, name-checking everything from the Spear of Destiny to Lovecraftian Old Ones on the way. A solid enough film that works nicely with the small cast and limited number of locations, well worth watching if you are interested in the topic.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.
- DirectorUwe BollStarsNatassia MaltheBrendan FletcherMichael ParéRayne joins a resistence group to fight against the Nazis during World War II.It's a Uwe Boll film so you know what to expect - someone metaphorically kicking you in the nits while (possibly literally) laughing at you for watching their stupid film adaptation of a video game. The upside, and there is only one, is that it isn't as bad as Bloodrayne 2* but then quite a few Syfy original movies are better than that, so the bar was set pretty low.
In this film the dhampir vampire hunter accidentally creates an SS dhampir (oops - you'd think she'd have learned by now, especially as it is apparently so easy). This seemed oddly unnecessary, as they have their own vampires. Imprisoning him and on Rayne's tail is a German officer who slaps like an old lady and has some very un-Nazi qualms about research on vampires. It is stupid and full of plotholes, but you'd expect that from Boll, his impressive achievement is to make a film packed with all these potentially interesting ingredients so very dull (the secret is a pisspoor script and lumpen direction).
* The camerawork is only annoying (as opposed to being so shaky it looked like the cameraman had Parkinsons), her swords don't look like tinfoil-covered cardboard and there is not only some nudity but also a gratuitous sex scenes (it is a bit like he is drawing plot elements out of a hat, not just for this but the entire film - I assume it had to include a lot of random elements to sneak the runtime over an hour). - DirectorUwe BollStarsLindsay HollisterBrendan FletcherMichael ParéAn action comedy centered on an overweight woman whose footsteps cause explosions and whose dual swords are used against anyone who makes fun of her. This is an odd one, Boll filmed it on the Bloodrayne 3 sets so he essentially made his own mockbuster - stealing a page from The Asylum's rulebook (which really only had half a page) seems to be about his style.
- DirectorJeff BurrStarsGary DouglasRichard LynchIan WrightA Nazi Luger Pistol with dark and mystical powers re-emerges in modern day Bucharest. A British news reporter travels to Paris to interview a German Doctor (Stefan Ehrlichmann) regarding claims reported by a rival newspaper. Stefan claims to have encountered demonic beasts while hiding out with his wife (Elsa) during the Battle of Berlin. - DirectorSteve BarkerStarsCatherine SteadmanRichard CoyleAli CraigThe year is 1945, the closing stages of WW2, and a German scientist by the name of Klausener is working on a frightening new technology that has the power to create an immortal Nazi army. Flash forward to present day, and a NATO task force is hurriedly deployed to Eastern Europe, where a sinister enemy appears to be mercilessly killing everything in its path. But this is no ordinary foe. Only Helena, a gutsy investigator on the trail of the notorious war-criminal Klausener, accepts the reality of that they are facing a battalion of Nazi Storm-Troopers, a veritable zombie army on the march. With the help of Wallace, a man who's been chasing Nazi secrets for years, the two of them team up with a Special Forces Unit to venture deep behind enemy lines. Their mission to fight their way back to the source of this evil army and prevent the seemingly inevitable rise of the 4th Reich.
- DirectorTimo VuorensolaStarsJulia DietzeChristopher KirbyGötz OttoThe Nazis set up a secret base on the dark side of the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018.A superb crowd-sourced films that shows the big boys (and The Asylum) how you can do it.
Sarah Palin is the US president is looking out for a war and, lucky for Australia apprently, and the Moon Nazis turn up just in time. Against this vast stage we have the story of a black astronaut/model (who went to the Moon as part of the President's re-election campaign) and the daughter of the Nazi's chief mad scientist (we only see one but they must have hundreds in the backrooms for all that technology). Of course, the Nazis are undone by their own rigidty but in between we have a blockbuster movie made on a, relative, shoestring that works on all levels - the big story, the human drama, the great sweeping battles (which reminded me of Babylon 5 for a number of reasons. not just the epic CGI on a budget but the medley of spaceships), the satire that gets nicely dark in places and the humour (although that is the one place I'd have liked to see the film try harder).
Don't worry about the surprising;y low rating, like Team America it yanks the chain of so many people that there is something in there to offend a lot of people (Americans, North Koreans, Nazis, etc.) so it appears to have got quite a few negative votes. However, as you are reading this list (presumably not having stumbled across it while looking for something completely different), then Iron Sky is a must-see. - DirectorStephen AmisStarsJim KnobelochSerge De NardoAngelo SalamancaIn 1943, five US soldiers are recruited by the OSS for a time travel mission to save the world from the tyranny of Hitler's 25th Reich.

- DirectorRichard RaaphorstStarsRobert GwilymHon Ping TangAlexander TerentyevIn the dying days of WWII, a battalion of Russian soldiers is lured into the secret lab of a deranged scientist and forced to face off against an army of horrific flesh-and-metal war machines. While the found footage techniques are over-used Frankenstein's Army works really well, partly because it being set in WWII so the footage is on film (reducing all the annoying glitches and digital trickery designed to make you think you are seeing the output from a real digital camera) and it then uses it well to get the feel of immediacy that a lot of other films fail to do.
- DirectorPhilip GardinerStarsPhilip BerzamanisJane HaslehurstBob LeeIn 1945 the Second World War came to an end and the Nazis fled. Scientists and military elite escaped across borders and found themselves in new worlds. Some fled to Russia, some the United States and others to South America. But there was another division, a forgotten group. A top secret and powerful team of men and women formed in the womb of the Nazi Occult. Now, decades after the war, their work is nearing completion. The 4th Reich is ready. It's more powerful and destructive than ever before. An army of hell is coming. Only one man knows the truth. His mission now, is to convince the world.
