Not only was this an example where a sequel held it's own vs. the original, but this film was a step up from the original and James Cameron continued to show us why he is such a fantastic director. His vision is true and his story is told the way it was suppose to, before others lowered the rating and Arnold looked to old to be a machine.
5. Boyz n the Hood (1991)

1991 first runner-up. John Singleton hasn't always had the best hits but this film showed us life growing up in in Compton, and the drama and crime that would occur on the regular at that time. The ending is really what sold this movie.

1991 movie of the year. The only horror film to ever win an Oscar for Best Picture. That alone shows you that the acting of a young Jodie Foster as a FBI cadet and Anthony Hopkins as a very menacing villain that will always be considered one of the greats. His role in that will always stand fast in my mind.
7. Malcolm X (1992)

1992 second runner-up. Denzel Washington at his finest portraying the famous civil rights activist Malcolm X that was willing to do anything to get the black minority equal rights and respect. A truly fantastic film. Don't forget that Spike Lee also directed this film, when him and Denzel get together it is always great.

1992 first runner-up. Daniel Day Lewis as the "Last Mohican" was an excellent portrayal of loyalty to his tribe and doing everything within his power to keep them going and alive. This film also demonstrates excellent directing style with Michael Mann behind the camera.

It's not often you see a movie be able to compete with it's book equivalent but this film stays true to the story and is able to accurately portray a theme park that's both beautiful and horrific. Michael Crichton did an excellent job coming up with the story, Spielberg did a great job bringing it to the silver screen.

1993 film of the year. Rarely do you see Liam Neelson in a bad role and this movie is no different. The story of a Nazi saving over 1,000 Jews from being slaughtered is a truly moving experience that is so hard to believe that is actually based on a true story. Once again Steven Spielberg showed us why he is one of the best.

1994 second runner-up. Quentin Tarantino directed another cult hit, the acting is excellent. The stand-out role has to go to John Travolta or Bruce Willis. Uma Thurman does well as a druggy but i think anyone can handle that role. With that being said, S. Jackson also had a key apartment scene that I will always remember.
