The best movies of 2015
we are expecting Joy and maybe a few more films that may prove to be nice surprises till the end of the year(the Revenant is not expected before January), but I suppose the time for the list has come.I intend to accompany it with two more, one for the rest of the best, since I believe there were many movies this year that are worth mentioning, and one with the ones that might fit in but were left out(together with the reasons why).So be it!

- DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.Mad Max was not flawless. The feminist touch that wanted all men bad and all women good I could do without(together with some female characters that were not likeable at all).Yet this is a mythical movie, with sequences that register deep in memory, with a vision of a cinematic world and a cinematic narration bold and effective, with enjoyable villains, and with Tom Hardy as Mad Max.It is also the only movie of the year that I've watched four times till now-and I will probably keep watching it in the future-and at least one of them-the one in 3D at a theater-filled me with bliss.So...
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsJoaquin PhoenixJosh BrolinOwen WilsonIn 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles private investigator Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend. The unexpectedly successful adaptation of Pynchon's novel is better than the book and reveals that Anderson is a brilliant director and Phoenix a cult actor.A movie you immerse into deeply, extremely funny, stylish and dreamlike.Perfect and lovely.
- DirectorJames PonsoldtStarsJason SegelJesse EisenbergAnna ChlumskyThe story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace, which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace's groundbreaking epic novel, 'Infinite Jest.'As a constant reader of Wallace(who is probably my favourite writer ever), I found this movie a perfect partner to his books, not only from an informative point of view, but as a piece of art that goes deep into the heart of the relationship of the two main characters and takes us to a journey full of feelings, ideas and longings.I loved it!
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsHenry CavillArmie HammerAlicia VikanderIn the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons. One of the best action films I've watched ever.Stylish, with a direction that shows true involvement and joy, perfect casting, and a subtle longing for the gone things we cherish.
- DirectorWim WendersStarsJames FrancoPeter MillerGilbert WahiakeronOne day, driving aimlessly around the outskirts of town after a trivial domestic quarrel, a writer named Tomas accidentally hits and kills a child. Will he be able to move on?Return to form for the great Wim Wenders.I didn't have the chance to watch it in 3D(in Greece only the blockbusters are played this way), but I think it is the best movie of Wim since The state of things.Moving, beautiful, brilliant.Precious!
- DirectorMichael WinterbottomStarsSteve CooganRob BrydonRosie FellnerTwo men, six meals in six different places on a road trip around Italy. Liguria, Tuscany, Rome, Amalfi and ending in Capri.road movie, buddy movie, sequel, funny, filled with melancholy underneath.Blah blah that masks the Insignificance.Great!
- DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsMichael KeatonZach GalifianakisEdward NortonA washed-up superhero actor attempts to revive his fading career by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway production.the last year's Oscar winner is an excellent film, with innovative direction, perfect permomances, funny and bitter, that is an absolute joy to watch and rewatch.
- DirectorGaspar NoéStarsAomi MuyockKarl GlusmanKlara KristinMurphy is an American living in Paris who enters a highly sexually and emotionally charged relationship with Electra. Unaware of the effect it will have on their relationship, they invite their pretty neighbor into their bed.The biggest surprise of the year:a film about Love that doesn't stop in the romantic aspect everyone else does but does not neglect it neither. With references to Kubrick and even Carpenter, it is as bold as it gets and doesn't shout about it.In my opinion, a rare accomplishment.
- DirectorDavid Gordon GreenStarsAl PacinoHolly HunterHarmony KorineLeft heartbroken by the woman he loved and lost many years ago, Manglehorn, an eccentric small-town locksmith, tries to start his life over again with the help of a new friend.David Gordon Green is a master director of our times, and Manglehorn is a masterpiece of filming the trivial with a generation of countless feelings.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.a wonder of editing, a small story with big impact, it takes us by the hand and leads us through in one breath
- DirectorMike LeighStarsTimothy SpallPaul JessonDorothy AtkinsonAn exploration of the last quarter century of the great, if eccentric, British painter J.M.W. Turner's life.an excellent reconstruction of the lives of people of another Age;a different time when the eyes could see things we rarely see now, and the glorious position of Painting in knowing the world
