Very gritty and quite realistic depiction of Rome, is quite long and can get heavy to watch but very good non the less

One of my favourites, the show looks at the lives of the Vikings and the English and follows one of the biggest legends in history. Incredibly well written with great battles and character development, but the shows best asset has to be the depiction of both Viking and Christian religions, and how each culture is influenced by one another.
6. The Last Kingdom (2015–2022)

As Alfred the Great defends his kingdom from Norse invaders, Uhtred--born a Saxon but raised by Vikings--seeks to claim his ancestral birthright.

Show set in the same time of Vikings, The Last Kingdom hits different notes to vikings, but captures the time of Ragnar's adopted saxon son, who is conflicted between being a Dane and a Saxon. Slow first episode but the rest of the season is top class

Set before another great show (World Without End) it documents the power struggle between the church and state in England in medieval times. Fantastic mini series and a real breakout role for Eddie Redmayne.
8. Wolf Hall (2015)
