- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.***: Thor 2 is unfortunately an uneven action comedy. That's right, I said comedy. Throughout the film it takes itself serious one minute and throws humor at us the next. It's as if they think every Marvel film now should balance humor and action, Avengers style.
All of the actors are in good form. If you see a review where a critic knocks the acting, they are just reaching for excuses why they didn't like it. The plot is what sucks, as does the villain. We have seen super villains who just want to blow *beep* up in the past. Transformers, Avengers and Man of Steel didn't exactly make us want to see more buildings blown up in future big budget films.
At least we have Loki, Kat Dennings and Stellen Skarsgard to living up the film. - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.***1/2: a little slow but it nicely builds up towards things exploding between good and evil. And Jennifer Lawrence is even better than she was in the first.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageThe dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, their homeland, from the dragon Smaug.****: If you convinced yourself not to like it before you've even seen it. You're missing out on the best movie I saw this year. Yes, one book is now three long movies, get over it; sit back and enjoy the ride.
- DirectorBrian PercivalStarsSophie NélisseGeoffrey RushEmily WatsonWhile subjected to the horrors of World War II Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. In the basement of her home, a Jewish refugee is being protected by her adoptive parents.
- DirectorChris BuckJennifer LeeStarsKristen BellIdina MenzelJonathan GroffFearless optimist Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven in an epic journey to find Anna's sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.***1/2: With Pixar making unnecessary sequels and prequels, Disney has been taking the throne back with Wreck It Ralph "which should have won over Brave" and now Frozen. It's just another true loves kiss movie, it's much smarter than that.
If the Academy gives Pixar the Oscar yet again, it goes to show they don't know what they're doing anymore. Frozen is much better than Monster University. - DirectorKen ScottStarsVince VaughnChris PrattCobie SmuldersAn affable underachiever finds out he's fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago.
