Another *beep* horrible list... I am glad Justin is back tonight and hopefully getting this hot mess back on track.
Now then, product placement exists when a production company receives cash or goods or services in exchange for being prominently featured in the film...
There are specialty firms who act as agents for these products, bigger deals are handled by traditional ten percenters; lest anyone think GM was an artistic choice by Michael Bay in 2007s TRANSFORMERS.
There is subtle placement when commerce and the artistic converge, like sunglasses, which does little more than ensure some asshat in the studio's Placement Department gets a fee box of them, but does not significantly underwrite or promote a film and I would consider commercial placement.
Sometimes a a producer chooses to use a product because it is appropriate for the story but does not receive compensation, hence the non manufacturer specific magnum gets a pass in 1971s DIRTY HARRY.
Also 1995s TOY STORY is a cartoon, hence not a film, hence not eligible to be considered here...
Lastly, almost every modern film contains placement, it's a line item on the budget, so I am not sure what this whole list is after... but I would like to think Sir Steven didn't have to pay for all those FedEx Boxes Larry Crown thoughtlessly strewn about the South Pacific.
And as Justin is in the studio tonight, it is appropriate to ask the question, is this a list of the best product placement OR the best film with product placement?
Regardless, hopefully these will be interesting...
