"Bad" Movies I Really Enjoy
Movies have fans for various reasons. Even movies that are generally considered "bad". Here are some that I enjoy despite the label or the actual badness of said film.

- DirectorJulien TempleStarsGeena DavisJeff GoldblumJim CarreyA Southern California girl befriends three furry aliens after their spaceship lands in her swimming pool.It was the second pre-stardom Jim Carey appearance I saw. The second one with a dance number with him.
It was my first remembered experience with Damon Wayans, who I crushed a little on in this movie.
It was Geena and Jeff that I came for and wasn't let down. The songs, Julie Brown, 'Dr. Love', the crazy eating, the 80s clothes and Mr. Goldblum's piano playing were gravy. - DirectorHoward StormStarsLauren HuttonJim CarreyKaren KopinsA vampire Countess needs to drink the blood of a virgin in order to keep her eternal beauty. It seems that all is hopeless, until she bumps into Mark Kendall. My first movie exposure to Jim Carey. It was a fun 'stupid' movie, but Lauren Hutton and Clevon Little? In a funny vampire movie? I was in.
That I liked Robin despite her weird primness was nice. Karen Kopins' take on the 'typical' girlfriend was nice in that to save her guy, she did what no one in any movie I saw then even suggested!
That Megan Mullally is the only other now-famous "name" from the cast gives some the idea it wasn't good. It wasn't reaching for an Oscar, but to tickle us and entertain. It has for this viewer, so thanks to all involved! - DirectorJohn WooStarsJean-Claude Van DammeLance HenriksenYancy ButlerA woman hires a drifter as her guide through New Orleans in search of her missing father. In the process, they discover a deadly game of cat and mouse behind his disappearance.VanDamme in his prime, Yancy Butler looking good, Lance Hendriksen in mean cuss mode, and my first look at Arnold Vosloo. I felt for Kasi Lemmons' detective, but I liked her a bunch and wanted her to survive the movie.
The float hangar ending is wonderous in it's just rightness. It fits. Just like Wilford Brimley's accent for Uncle Douvee! - DirectorJohn IrvinStarsPatrick SwayzeLiam NeesonAdam BaldwinTruman, a Chicago cop, sets out to find the killer of his brother. Meanwhile, another of his brothers, Briar (a hillbilly) decides to find the killer himself.Don't mess with hill people with snakes and buses folks. Just sayin'.
- DirectorHarold BeckerStarsGeorge C. ScottTimothy HuttonRonny CoxMilitary cadets take extreme measures to ensure the future of their academy when its existence is threatened by local condo developers.Timothy Hutton. Sean Penn. Tom Cruise. George C. Scott. Oh, and a machine gun on a tripod.
Not exactly Oscar-bait, but a relatively interesting, provacative piece on military schools and what we expect of the graduates. When you get past the over-the-top goofiness. - DirectorPaul W.S. AndersonStarsChristopher LambertRobin ShouLinden AshbyThree unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world.Hot men. Nice soundtrack. Too bad about the sequel.
- DirectorRussell MulcahyStarsAlec BaldwinJohn LonePenelope Ann MillerIn 1930s New York City, The Shadow (Alec Baldwin) battles his nemesis, Shiwan Khan (John Lone), who is building an atomic bomb.A fun time if you let yourself just take the ride. Penelope-Ann Miller was great. John Lone was great, too. His last scene was haunting, despite the over-the-topness of it.
Needs to be on a double bill with #8. - DirectorSimon WincerStarsBilly ZaneKristy SwansonTreat WilliamsThe Phantom, descendent of a line of African superheroes, travels to New York City to thwart a wealthy criminal genius from obtaining three magic skulls which would give him the secret to ultimate power. While not the hit folks were looking for, it's a fun way to stay out of bad weather or to duck chores. Catherine-Zeta Jones is fun as a Bad Lady. Kristy Swanson does well.
I came for Billy Zane and was totally satisfied. I was also disappointed that a sequel wasn't tried. - DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsMichael Jai WhiteJohn LeguizamoMartin SheenAn elite mercenary is killed, but comes back from Hell as a reluctant soldier of the Devil. So much potential! John Leguizamo was clearly enjoying his part. Easter eggs for those who noticed.
The cast was top-notch, the adaptation was fair, so I was disappointed when folks called it a flop. (To be clear, it wasn't to me- I was one who paid money to see it and have it on dvd.)
It was the first time I remembered seeing Michael Jai White and ended up with a crush. - DirectorAndrew FlemingStarsRobin TunneyFairuza BalkNeve CampbellA newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who anger them.Four young women, leading a movie about magic? I was 30 when this came out, but I have always been a kid at heart.
The cast was good. I liked everyone. The story was pretty good, too. - DirectorSergio LeoneStarsRod SteigerJames CoburnRomolo ValliA low-life bandit and an I.R.A. explosives expert rebel against the government and become heroes of the Mexican Revolution.James Coburn as an Irish explosives guy, Rod Steiger as a bandit in Mexico? What's not to love?!
I think that this gets lost in the gushing over Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns, but then again, I was looking for fun and James Coburn. - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsKeanu ReevesRachel WeiszDjimon HounsouSupernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine helps a policewoman prove her sister's death was not a suicide, but something more.If it hadn't been called "Constantine", it would've done fine. I was entertained, but I was expecting something a little different.
The cast was excellent and excellently cast. I cannot pick out what I liked best, because it changes every time I watch. Still, I think it was a Top 3 Keanu Reeves performance. I enjoy this film alot. - StarsBridget JonesMary Jo PehlBridget and Mary Jo take you back to 1979 to riff this bargain-basement Charlie's Angels rip off staring a feather-banged crime stopping duo.
