The principal questions at his trial are about the perpetrator's mental health and whether he is 'mad' or 'bad'.

Meanwhile, Walker's son Richard is under arrest for injuring swans in a local pond. He's also in possession of a small amount of marijuana. The boy is sullen and Walker's a bit at a loss as to what is going on. The police decide not to press charges provided the boy undergoes therapy. Walker takes time off to deal with it all.
