Back to the Future - the ride
Film for Universal Studios' Florida and Hollywood theme parks. Using advanced motion control photographic techniques and detailed miniature sets, the simulated chase through time for the ride was filmed in the 180° IMAX Dome format. His miniature sets included an entire 50's town in ½" scale, a glacier, a volcano, and its 4 story high interior; all of which sets averaged about 50' by 80'. With images projected onto a giant 80-foot dome, "Back to the Future -The Ride" takes passengers in one of twelve 8-seat DeLorean cars on a wild journey through the town of Hill Valley from prehistoric times to the future. The cars have their own computer driven motion bases keyed to the motion of the film

- directed by Douglas Trumbull for Luxor Las Vegas, a $350 million casino resort built by Circus Circus Enterprises, Inc. The technologically cutting edge production of three films designed by Taylor, involved the process of integrating computer previsualization, live action and motion control miniature photography, computer graphic imagery, and digital image compositing in a manner never before attempted.
The production evolved and used the largest (50' x 100') and most advanced motion control gantry system and the smallest 8 perf 35mm motion control cameras ever built, as well as a new, compact simulation theater system. Taylor designed a trilogy of attractions, each employing distinct styles and film formats: a high-impact simulator ride, an elaborate 3D illusion using modified ShowScan technology, and a giant vertical format screen visual effects trip into the distant future, in which each audience level was five feet higher than the lower one. He also designed the entire themed preshow architecture, involving Egyptian ruins, a simulated broken elevator drop and film simulation, and several simulated TV studios and theatres. - DirectorDanny CannonStarsSylvester StalloneArmand AssanteRob SchneiderIn a dystopian future, Joseph Dredd, the most famous Judge (a police officer with instant field judiciary powers), is convicted for a crime he did not commit and must face his murderous counterpart.Mr. Taylor then was Visual Effects Art Director with Mass.Illusion for the feature film "Judge Dredd", designing a vast city of model and computer built futuristic architecture and graphics, in which elaborately planned flying chase scenes were filmed in motion controlled and green-screen formats. The sets for these shots were from 11' to 16' high, in 1/8" scale, to simulate buildings hundreds of stories high, all computer designed to enable models to be laser cut, and to exactly match virtual buildings in CGI built from the same data bases, for multiple matte shots. Numerous motion controlled pyro effects were designed and executed on these sets. He created the very large matte composite CGI paintings for this film
