- DirectorJim StedmanIn Texas, fireworks can be sold for about 10 days before the 4th of July and New Year's Eve. Most sales are from small roadside stands, many of which advertise "Buy 1 Get 5 Free" (or even 11). The stands are operated by a diverse group of people, who we meet. We also meet a distributor, visit a superstore, watch a semi-pro display, and even talk with a man who repairs the stands.I don't approve of buying fireworks yourself. You'll get a better show from the professional public displays than from anything you'll get from what you bought at a stand. Fire marshals also don't recommend it for safety reasons. And my neighbors keep me up every year setting them off, as if to announce "I didn't make any better plans to see fireworks this year, and I want everyone to know it." It's also bad for any neighbors who may be veterans, and suffering from PTSD. But this is a fascinating look at the people who sell them.
