nor is every movie good if it's signed by Alfred Hitchcock. OK, fact is that this is the first British "talkie", and it's even started as silent film. But many silent movies are better than this one. Fact that it was made in 1929. explains and excuses technical imperfections, even acting, but not the story that is completely undeveloped. In this form it could be used for decent episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, but to stretch it into 85 minutes movie is pointless.
5/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsSara AllgoodEdward ChapmanBarry FitzgeraldDuring the Irish Civil War in 1922, a family earns a big inheritance. They start leading a rich life, forgetting what the most important values are.Can anyone help me find this movie?!
Hitchcock second sound feature is drama/comedy based on dialogues. There's no much to see. They speak with strong Irish accent and sound is bad cause movie is old, so I understand almost nothing at all. I could not find any links for downloading or watching online, except on YouTube, but without subtitles I gave up after 20 minutes. If anyone have this or know where to find it with subtitles in either English or Serbian I would be very grateful. :(

Out of 15 Hitchcock's movies I saw so far, this one is definitely the worst. Starting from poorly developed and boring story, through uninteresting characters without any characterization, with which it is impossible to identify or at least sympathize, to visual mediocrity. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this film.
3/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsLaurence OlivierJoan FontaineGeorge SandersA self-conscious woman juggles adjusting to her new role as an aristocrat's wife and avoiding being intimidated by his first wife's spectral presence.Hitchcock's first Hollywood masterpiece
This classic Hitchcock's Gothic mystery irresistibly reminds of "Gone With the Wind" (same producer), and also of "Jane Air" (the screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Daphne Maurie and it's written on the model of Charlotte Bronte). This is the first Hitchcock's American/Hollywood movie so it has typical British flavor, like all previous Hitchcock's mysteries. It is nominated for eleven Oscars and has won two, for the best movie and the best black and white cinematography. I wouldn't say it's one of the best movies of all time, but it surely is a masterpiece.
9/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsTeresa WrightJoseph CottenMacdonald CareyA teenage girl, overjoyed when her favorite uncle comes to visit the family in their quiet California town, slowly begins to suspect that he is in fact the "Merry Widow" killer sought by the authorities.Rated 8/10, reviews extremely positive, calling it one of Hitchcock's best achievements... Although acting and directing are good, this is probably only Hitchcock's movie I will not ever watch again. I am aware that thrillers now and then are not exactly the same thing, but in my opinion, this is not thriller no matter witch criteria we apply. Story isn't bad, but isn't particularly good either. There's no suspension or mystery and movie as whole do not wake any emotions in me and leave no impressions. As if I did not watch it at all. I can not point my finger and criticize any particular flaws, but overall impression is two hours wasted. From Hitchcock I expected a lot more...

6/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsFarley GrangerRobert WalkerRuth RomanA psychopathic man tries to forcibly persuade a tennis star to agree to his theory that two strangers can get away with murder by submitting to his plan to kill the other's most-hated person.Hitchcock gave his best to turn this not so great story into great movie. Acting is very good, especially Robert walker who played his role to perfection. Directing is great and movie had Best Cinematography Oscar nomination. Some scenes are work of genius. Scene when Walker pops balloon with cigarette, heads turning left and right in ridiculous pace while only Walker's head is still fixating our main character, scream in the tunnel, party choking scene, those are just some of moments that will definitely carve into your memory. Perfect Hitchcock atmosphere, but although movie presents its story strongly from the beginning to the end, story itself is, in my opinion, lousy developed. Plot idea is fantastic, but in second part of the movie main characters start to draw illogical moves that are incompatible with basic plot. What looked like beginning of great mystery thriller suddenly turns into psychological drama. Unexpected and unwanted direction of story that begins to lose its meaning, but drama opens the door for actors to show their skills so great directing and acting still cover for screenplay flaws. But, in third part of the movie things go south and movie becomes crime action. It had potential to end with some awesome mindfak twist (I had few ideas), but instead we got dumb, illogical and unconvincing denouement that flushes this potential masterpiece down to mediocre crime story. Still, six would do injustice to fantastic camera, directing and first part of the movie, so I have to compromise and rate it
8/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartGrace KellyWendell CoreyA wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window and, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend, becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.Overrated...?
The more I watch Hitchcock and the more I compare my impressions with the reviews of other people, the more I start to think that maybe I do not like his style. I love the genre he works with and I appreciate him very much, but either the most reviewers are following the hype and rating his movie too high because that's expected from "true cinephiles" or I simply don't get him the way most people do. I saw 16 of his movies so far and my average rating is 6,9 which places him slightly above average. "Rear Window" is a perfect example. It is considered to be one of the best films of all time, but to me, it's nothing special. I have no objections to it thou, but I do not see what's there to praise so much. Good movie, but not the great one and definitely overrated.
7/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsRay MillandGrace KellyRobert CummingsA former tennis star arranges the murder of his adulterous wife.Unused potential
The idea is fantastic, but the realization failed. Don't get me wrong, this is a great movie, but it could easily have been much better.
A former professional tennis player finds out that his wife, for which he left his career and from which he depends financially, plans to leave him, so he plans a "perfect murder" to inherit her wealth. When things go wrong, he improvises a nearly perfect plan B. The original and the plan B are well designed, the film follows an intelligent and well-written outwitting of the main protagonists, and the story is so interesting that many will not even notice that the whole film takes place in one room with only a few characters. But this "mystery thriller", although very interesting, is neither mysterious nor thrilling, because the most of the "mystery" was revealed to us at the very beginning. The audience knows from the start the entire plan for "perfect murder" and follows the main character at every step of the improvised plan B, so there is no room for tension or speculation.
The movie should have been opened by the scene of Grace Kelly answering the phone and the mysterious man attacking her from behind. From there they could build plot further, with occasional flashbacks to the time before the attack, where mystery would slowly unfold. If the audience observed the story from the angle of Grace Kelly or the police, instead of a man who devised the crime, the movie could have been straight ten. This way I rate it eight and, if it was made a few decades later, even that would be too high.
8/10 - StarsAlfred HitchcockHarry TylerLillian O'MalleySeries of unrelated short stories covering elements of crime, horror, drama, and comedy about people of different backgrounds committing murders, suicides, thefts, and other sorts of crime caused by certain motivations, perceived or not.Quick entertainment
The series consists of 268 twenty-five-minute episodes, divided into seven seasons, that were aired from 1955 to 1962. Each episode is a separate short film and not in any way related, except for the genre. Some of the episodes were directed by Hitchcock himself, others signed by many other writers and directors, but they are all mysterious crime dramas in the style of Hitchcock. Their level varies greatly, from boring and naively predictable, to really quality thrillers, whereby the good ones must really be acknowledged, because it is very difficult to develop a quality story in this genre in just 25 minutes. In my opinion, this is not a series for binge-watching, but I advise you to download around ten episodes at the time and use them on occasions when you really want to watch something but you are short with time. I dragged on the first two seasons for about two years.

When I first saw this movie, I didn't like it. I was bored, and I think I rated it six out of ten. But I was younger, with less film experience and much less patience. Therefore I decided to give it another chance.
Nominated for four Oscars, Alfred Hitchcock's horror thriller "Psycho" is considered one of the best films of all time and one of the most influential films in the genre. The oldest R-rated movie can also be found on the lists of the most controversial films because, in its time, it was something new and shocking. Frankly, I was a little bored. Although technically well-made, with great camera, music, and performances by Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh, the story and overall atmosphere made no special impression on me. The introductory part, until Marion arrives at the motel, was needlessly dragged on for half an hour and, after hundreds of watched thrillers and horrors, neither did the rest of it particularly hold my attention. With all due respect for the status of this film, its impact on the history of cinema, the cult scene in the shower and one of the most legendary twists of all time, my subjective impression does not allow me to rate it higher than
7,5/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsRod TaylorTippi HedrenJessica TandyA wealthy San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people. The only good bird is a roasted bird
I watched this on TV as a child and, although I forgot all the details a long time ago, it remained carved in my memory as terrifying. Of course, this memory was greatly influenced by its reputation as one of the most famous horrors of all time. I just watched it for the first time as an adult in its entirety and I must say - wtf?! The story is linear, simple and does not require even the slightest use of the brain. It starts as a typical romantic comedy of its time (and it would be better if it stayed that way to the end), and then turns into something that is supposed to be a horror, but it is at best a mediocre drama. There is no mystery and tension that we expect from Hitchcock, there are no interesting dialogues, and performances of the actors are at a rather low level. From today's perspective, the effects are tragicomic, and I believe they were not anywhere near top-notch even for their time, which leads to the question how the hell was this film nominated for an Oscar in that category. Occasionally, the effects were so ridiculous that I had the impression that someone deliberately mocked with bird attacks. This is a film from 1963, not from 1923. The events in the movie remain completely unexplained, but that didn't bother me much because I couldn't care less about the reasons for bird attacks. The only good thing about this movie is the premise itself, because it is relatively realistic. Considering the number of birds on the planet in relation to the number of people, the very idea that birds can turn against us and attack us all at once is horrifying, because, despite their primitiveness in relation to human technology, I believe that in this war mankind would have no chance to win. Ever since I can remember I felt moderate repulsion and disgust towards birds, and after this movie, however unconvincing it may be, I could easily develop a phobia. If this movie was of a more recent date, I would rate it even lower, but, considering technical capabilities of the sixties, I have to give it a slack, so I'll rate it
5/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsTippi HedrenSean ConneryMartin GabelMark marries Marnie although she is a habitual thief and has serious psychological problems, and tries to help her confront and resolve them. This movie is not one of Alfred's hits and it failed in theaters, but it deserves much higher reputation. Acting and directing are exquisite, and story, that begins as crime romance with humorous moments, develops into upsetting drama and holds attention through more than two hours. Only flaw are too obvious fake backgrounds in driving and riding scenes and in front of mother's house, but however stupid they look, those scenes do not diminish greatness of Hitchcock's directing. I recommend this movie to everyone, regardless of genre taste.
8/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsPaul NewmanJulie AndrewsLila KedrovaAn American scientist publicly defects to East Germany as part of a cloak and dagger mission to find the solution for a formula resin before planning an escape back to the West. This is the last Hitchcock movie with huge stars in main roles. When you hear names Hitchcock, Paul Newman and Julie Andrews in same sentence you expect masterpiece, but you'll get just a decent thriller without bigger flaws, but which does not stand out from the average in any way. If you decide to see this film you won't be bored, but I honestly doubt that tomorrow you'll even remember what you saw. Unless you are true fan of some of the above mentioned legends, I recommend skipping it.
6/10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJon FinchBarry FosterBarbara Leigh-HuntA serial murderer is strangling women with a necktie. The London police have a suspect, but he is the wrong man.Big disappointment
Thriller?! This is not a thriller, not even by standards of its own time. From the very beginning, everything is perfectly clear. No mystery, no dilemmas or twists, the murderer is known from the beginning, the movie is linear and at the very edge of boring. The story that could have been told as a single episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" is needlessly stretched to two hours of dull movie. There are some interesting moments, like, for example, dinners that wife makes to the inspector or breaking fingers to the stiff corpse, but, besides few asses and breasts here and there, it is everything that more or less holds attention in this movie. From Hitchcock, I expected a whole lot more than this.
5/10 - DirectorGary TrousdaleRaman HuiStarsMike MyersCameron DiazAntonio BanderasShrek gets in the Halloween spirit by challenging his fairytale friends to come up with scary stories for a contest. But the gang learn that they'll have to spend the night in Lord Farquaad's haunted castle before the winner is named.Shrek Halloween Special
On Halloween, Shrek and several fairy tale characters go to the castle of Lord Farquaad, where they compete in telling scary stories. The last one remaining in the castle wins. This twenty-minute cartoon consists of three stories done as a homage to cult horrors. Gingerbread's story is inspired by the film "Bride of Frankenstein", Puss and Donkey squabble in their usual way through a parody of Hitchcock's "Psycho", and Shrek wins the night with scenes from the movie "The Exorcist" applied to Pinocchio. Imaginative, witty and technically well done. I enjoyed it very much.
