- DirectorChris WedgeStarsLucas TillJane LevyThomas LennonA young man working at a small town junkyard discovers and befriends a creature which feeds on oil being sought by a fracking company.**1/2: Despite a pretty bad idea for a movie. Monster Trucks was better than I expected. Maybe since I grew up with similar silly movies in the 80's.
My 5 yr old niece loves Monster Trucks. I found the movie surprisingly decent due to the good cast. While Lucas Till (MacGyver) fits this film more than he does at playing MacGyver. Well despite being 26 and playing a teen who rides the mini-bus to school. Jane Levy (Don't Breath, Evil Dead) deserves better though.
Think of 80's movies like Mac & Me or Batteries Not Included....meets Free Willy and Transformers. - DirectorBaran bo OdarStarsJamie FoxxMichelle MonaghanDermot MulroneyA cop with a connection to the criminal underworld scours a nightclub in search of his kidnapped son.
- DirectorBen AffleckStarsBen AffleckElle FanningBrendan GleesonA group of Boston-bred gangsters set up shop in balmy Florida during the Prohibition era, facing off against the competition and the Ku Klux Klan.
- DirectorTaylor HackfordStarsRobert De NiroLeslie MannDanny DeVitoA look at the life of an aging insult comic named Jack Burke.
- DirectorD.J. CarusoStarsVin DieselDonnie YenDeepika PadukoneXander Cage is left for dead after an incident, though he secretly returns to action for a new, tough assignment with his handler Augustus Gibbons.
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsJames McAvoyAnya Taylor-JoyHaley Lu RichardsonThree girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities. They must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th.***: Spoiler: as a fan of a certain movie, the twist made Split good. James McAvory gives a fine dedicated performance as a man with many personalities. Anya Taylor-Joy is also solid as a girl he kidnapped.
Otherwise the film can be slow and silly. It's still M. Night Shyamalan showing some improvement after films like the Happening and After Earth. - DirectorJohn Lee HancockStarsMichael KeatonNick OffermanJohn Carroll LynchThe story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers' innovative fast food eatery, McDonald's, into the biggest restaurant business in the world, with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness.
- DirectorPaul W.S. AndersonStarsMilla JovovichIain GlenAli LarterAlice returns to where the nightmare began: The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJosh GadDennis QuaidPeggy LiptonA dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with Ethan.
- DirectorLawrence SherStarsOwen WilsonEd HelmsGlenn CloseUpon learning that their mother has been lying to them for years about their allegedly deceased father, fraternal twin brothers hit the road to search for him.
- DirectorPeter ChelsomStarsGary OldmanAsa ButterfieldCarla GuginoThe first human born on Mars travels to Earth for the first time, experiencing the wonders of the planet through fresh eyes. He embarks on an adventure with a street-smart girl to discover how he came to be.
- DirectorF. Javier GutiérrezStarsMatilda Anna Ingrid LutzAlex RoeJohnny GaleckiA young woman finds herself on the receiving end of a terrifying curse that threatens to take her life in 7 days.**: I watched this 2 days ago and forgot about it already. I actually liked the silly second film more. Rings almost feels like a reboot more than a sequel.
There's not many scares since you know Samara crawls out of a tv and scares her victims to death. The first half is that again. Then the second half, they try something new. That's mostly stupid. - DirectorChris McKayStarsWill ArnettMichael CeraRosario DawsonA cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, while discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick.***1/2: Non-stop ambition, humor and goofiness makes The Lego Batman Movie about as good as Lego Movie.
- DirectorJordan PeeleStarsDaniel KaluuyaAllison WilliamsBradley WhitfordA young African-American visits his white girlfriend's parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.***1/2: When Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) takes a trip with his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) to meet her parents. He expects to some awkwardness due to his race. What gets, he never would have expected.
Brilliant horror/comedy with LilRel Howery stealing the show as Chris' paranoid friend Rod. While Get Out is creepy and the most original film I've seen in awhile. - DirectorJames FoleyStarsDakota JohnsonJamie DornanEric JohnsonWhile Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her.
- DirectorChad StahelskiStarsKeanu ReevesRiccardo ScamarcioIan McShaneAfter returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.****: A non-stop action film that actually has a brain. Keanu Reeves deserves some credit acting wise. Yes I said it. For someone who looked like "duh..." through most his career. He's actually solid in the John Wick movies.
I mean, it requires some acting to be so damn bad ass. Sure Neo was a cool character but Keanu still looked lost through that whole trilogy. Here, he owns this character and every single action scene "and there's a lot....a whole lot."
While there's plenty of colorful characters he goes up against. The hot deaf girl stands out the most though. I love how she and John communicate back and forth with sign language, each with their own death threats.
Even John's dog is a great character. The film is so stylish, draggy and action packed that you might grow a little bored. Especially bored with so many gun shots to the head.
If you're an action junkie though, John Wick 2 is heroine. - DirectorYimou ZhangStarsMatt DamonTian JingWillem DafoeIn ancient China, a group of European mercenaries encounters a secret army that maintains and defends the Great Wall of China against a horde of monstrous creatures.
- DirectorRichie KeenStarsIce CubeCharlie DayTracy MorganWhen one school teacher unwittingly causes another teacher's dismissal, he is challenged to an after-school fight.
- DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsDane DeHaanJason IsaacsMia GothAn ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps, but soon suspects that the spa's treatments are not what they seem.
- DirectorJames MangoldStarsHugh JackmanPatrick StewartDafne KeenIn a future where mutants are nearly extinct, an elderly and weary Logan leads a quiet life. But when Laura, a mutant child pursued by scientists, comes to him for help, he must get her to safety.***1/2: Logan and Charles Xavier are now older and foul mouthed. Together they protect a young girl with Logan's powers. Who was given his powers by a scientist who's creating his own mutants.
The film can be dark and depressing. So why does it have better reviews than Batman vs Superman. Well since it's a bad ass well made movie with fine performances by Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen.
Logan is easily the best of the solo Wolverine movies. As well as Jackman's best outing next to X-Men 1-2 and Days of Future Past. - DirectorDanny BoyleStarsEwan McGregorEwen BremnerJonny Lee MillerAfter 20 years abroad, Mark Renton returns to Scotland and reunites with his old friends Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie.
- DirectorJordan Vogt-RobertsStarsTom HiddlestonSamuel L. JacksonBrie LarsonAfter the Vietnam war, a team of scientists explores an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong and must fight to escape a primal Eden.***1/2: Soldiers just want to go home after the Vietnam war but find themselves on one last mission to....skull island. Where it's protector is a giant ape named Kong.
Kong: Skull Island is a great fun creature feature. Kong is awesome and a building isn't his kryptonite for once. That was my only problem with the Peter Jackson King Kong. Almost was 3 hrs just to get the same ending.
Unlike the 2014 Godzilla film, we get plenty of Kong kicking ass. Skull Island knows we want plenty of him over the human characters. The John C. Reilly character is probably the only one I cared about whether he lived or not.
Brie Larson in tight shirts and pants in 3-D is also memorable lol. Otherwise her character is just a cliche woman in a Kong film. That you know of course will bond with him. She also doesn't have much to do but take photos through most the film.
Slight spoiler: Despite coming off as a goof ball in the trailer. John C. Reilly played the smart guy who knows more about the island than anyone. For once a trailer didn't give everything away. I also jumped more than I expected. - DirectorBill CondonStarsEmma WatsonDan StevensLuke EvansA selfish Prince is cursed to become a monster for the rest of his life, unless he learns to fall in love with a beautiful young woman he keeps prisoner.***1/2: Pretty much the same movie as the 1991 animated film. What makes this movie good is the performances and the CGI. However the new songs are mostly forgettable and some new subplots are unnecessary or just weird.
Spoiler: Belle wants to know how her mom died. Since Beast has a library full of books. Of course he has one that can magically transport them anywhere she wants. He relates to her since he changed when his mom died.
Another problem is that Josh Gad is well cast as Gaston's "friend", LeFou but gives an overly flamboyant performance. Where we get it, they aren't just friends in this one. LeFou has a crush on Gaston...
Emma Watson shines throughout and Dan Stevens was excellent as the Beast. Luke Evans also makes a great ego maniac as Gaston. Kevin Kline is well cast Belle's father too.
Although not totally necessary, Beauty and the Beast is still better than Disney live action films like Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland. Still, a book that can take you anywhere ? I guess why not if there's a mirror that shows you whatever you want. - DirectorBen WheatleyStarsSharlto CopleyBrie LarsonArmie HammerSet in Boston in 1978, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shoot-out and a game of survival.
- DirectorDaniel EspinosaStarsJake GyllenhaalRebecca FergusonRyan ReynoldsA team of scientists aboard the International Space Station discover a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars and now threatens all life on Earth.***: Critics basically said they would have liked Life if Alien wasn't made first. Either way this is an entertaining and well made creature feature. With a fine cast.
- DirectorDean IsraeliteStarsDacre MontgomeryNaomi ScottRJ CylerWhen Earth is on the verge of an alien invasion, five teenagers, who are infused with superhuman abilities, must harness their newfound powers to battle this threat - as the Power Rangers.***: It was obvious critics were never going to like a film called Power Rangers. I wasn't a fan of the show. Despite the movie feeling a little cliche, it's not a bad adaption from what I have seen.
My attention was kept throughout even if the film gets a bit cornier as it goes on. Especially by the end when the "go go Power Rangers song" actually plays.
The cast is why I will still rate the film good. All the kids work well together. While Bryan Cranston and an over-acting evil Elizabeth Banks are awesome. - DirectorDax ShepardStarsMichael PeñaDax ShepardVincent D'OnofrioAn inexperienced rookie is teamed up with a hardened pro at the California Highway Patrol in Los Angeles; the newbie officer soon learns his partner is really an undercover Fed investigating a heist which may involve some crooked cops.
- DirectorRupert SandersStarsScarlett JohanssonPilou AsbækTakeshi KitanoIn the near future, Major Mira Killian is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals.***: Not as good as the trailers made me hope for. Scarlett Johansson was pretty good though. Despite the "boo hoo they white washed!" I liked the cast. The visuals were pretty great too.
- DirectorTom McGrathStarsAlec BaldwinSteve BuscemiJimmy KimmelA suit-wearing, briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his 7-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.***: The Boss Baby is a strange idea for a movie. Yet, it's pretty cute nevertheless.
- DirectorNiki CaroStarsJessica ChastainJohan HeldenberghDaniel BrühlKeepers of the Warsaw Zoo, Antonina and Jan Zabinski, must save hundreds of people and animals during the Nazi invasion in WWII Poland.
- DirectorKelly AsburyStarsDemi LovatoRainn WilsonJoe ManganielloA mysterious map sets Smurfette and her friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting race through the Forbidden Forest, leading to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history.***: Due to the live action versions being quite bad, no one expected much from this version. However it is more smurfy and more like the animated series from the 80's. Since they're actually in their own land throughout. Being magically transported to New York and then Paris, was just stupid.
There's just a strange dirty joke thrown in when Papa Smurf (Mandy Patinkin) and Smurfwillow (Julia Roberts) are trapped in a cage together. He says "time to rock the cage" and she says "don't make it weird." Although, my 13 yr old niece and I laughed hysterically at that. While Rain Wilson's Gargamel is so hyperactive you'd think Jim Carrey was voicing him.
Otherwise the voice actors are better than the cast from the other films. It's especially funny that Gordan Ramsy talks for Baker Smurf despite rarely being shown. While of course Michelle Rodriguez talks for the tough girl smurf named Smurfstorm. Jack McBrayer is probably the best cast as Clumsy.
While not as good as the show. Smurfs: The Lost Village is at least superior to the Neil Patrick Harris films. Well due to actually being watchable. - DirectorZach BraffStarsMichael CaineAlan ArkinAnn-MargretDesperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, three lifelong pals risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.
- DirectorF. Gary GrayStarsVin DieselJason StathamDwayne JohnsonWhen a mysterious woman seduces Dominic Toretto into the world of terrorism and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.***1/2: Despite being 2 Fast 2 Many. I always watch them despite bitching that they just need to stop. The movies always do keep my attention and at least are way more watchable than the Transformers franchise.
Toreto turning on his friends at least makes sense and he wasn't brainwashed like someone from a 80's cartoon. Like I was thinking by the trailers lol.
Charlize Theron easily is the best villain of the franchise. You can't help but want to see her get what's coming. While Jason Statham surprisingly brings in the laughs. - DirectorTim HillStarsRobert De NiroUma ThurmanRob RiggleUpset that he has to share the room he loves with his grandfather, Peter decides to declare war in an attempt to get it back.
- DirectorJames GrayStarsCharlie HunnamRobert PattinsonSienna MillerA true-life drama, centering on British explorer Major Percival Fawcett, who disappeared whilst searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s.
- DirectorJames PonsoldtStarsEmma WatsonTom HanksJohn BoyegaA woman lands a dream job at a powerful tech company called the Circle, only to uncover an agenda that will affect the lives of all of humanity.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattZoe SaldanaDave BautistaThe Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego.***1/2: "Some Spoilers" A bit goofy and uneven at times but very funny. The Rocket and Yondu scenes are probably the best. Drax and Mantis were were great too. Just needs some better writing and more of the characters the first one teased us with. I especially want Cosmo and Howard the Duck helping the Guardians.
Some of the new songs are pretty much "easy listening" rock. So the soundtrack is a little disappointing. Fox on a Run is probably the best. While I do get why there's not too much focus on new characters. To build more on relationships of the first films characters.
However it felt like Alice: Through the LooKing Glass which pretty much was made to work out the issues between father and sons and sisters who didn't get along. Except, yes this movie is much better than that one. - DirectorGuy RitchieStarsCharlie HunnamAstrid Bergès-FrisbeyJude LawRobbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy - whether he likes it or not.
- DirectorDoug LimanStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonJohn CenaLaith NakliTwo American Soldiers are trapped by a lethal sniper, with only an unsteady wall between them.***: Aaron Taylor Johnson stars as a soldier trying to out smart a sniper who has him in his sights throughout. John Cena stars as well and gives one of his better performances due to being face down in the dirt through most the film.
Taylor Johnson once again gives a strong performance, following his Oscar snubbed one in Nocturnal Animals. He carries the film so well that it's disappointing that the ending is just...meh. - DirectorJonathan LevineStarsAmy SchumerGoldie HawnKim CarameleWhen her boyfriend dumps her before their exotic vacation, a young woman persuades her ultra-cautious mother to travel with her to paradise, with unexpected results.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsMichael FassbenderKatherine WaterstonBilly CrudupThe crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.***1/2: (Spoiler Heavy)I would have gave it **** if I didn't see the twist coming a mile away. Otherwise Alien: Covenant is the best since Alien and Aliens.
I just felt like Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) got the Hicks and Newt Alien 3 treatment. David (Michael Fassbender) proves here that he's the key character of these movies. We don't root for people to survive though just for them to die off screen. Who says Scott won't do that again with the 3rd film.
I enjoyed most the movie but a lot of people die because they were stupid. When some creepy Android says "follow me, I want to show you something." You don't go especially if that creepy Android is David.
So I felt like their were some horror cliches. Especially with "the everything is fine...oh wait no it's not!" typical horror movie ending.
I am not exactly defending why Alien: Covenant is one of the best though. The film is engaging and interesting during it's slow moments. I enjoyed learning more of why David does what he does.
I like that he actually says "curiosity killed the cat!" Since that's what I was thinking about him. His curiosity is very dangerous. The film does skip the whole "who created us ?" plot of Prometheus. However, David is the creator these films is interested in. It's about creation. Not ours though. The xenomorphs....
I find that intriguing and is why my Thumb is up. - DirectorSeth GordonStarsDwayne JohnsonZac EfronAlexandra DaddarioDevoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon butts heads with a brash new recruit, as they uncover a criminal plot that threatens the future of the bay.
- DirectorDavid BowersStarsJason DruckerAlicia SilverstoneTom Everett ScottA Heffley family road trip to attend Meemaw's 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course thanks to Greg's newest scheme to get to a video gaming convention.
- DirectorJoachim RønningEspen SandbergStarsJohnny DeppGeoffrey RushJavier BardemCaptain Jack Sparrow is pursued by old rival Captain Salazar and a crew of deadly ghosts who have escaped from the Devil's Triangle. They're determined to kill every pirate at sea...notably Jack.***: Quite entertaining despite all the bad reviews. Critics are just tired of Jack Sparrow I think. They are not tired of Fast and Furious movies though ?
The movie is fun and better than the 4th one. Kaya Scodelario makes a good addition as Carina Smyth. Who gets either confused as a witch or...a whore because she's a horologist lol. There's plenty of humor like that throughout that makes this one of the better Pirates movies.
While Javier Bardem once again makes a great villain as Captain Salazar. Who from the trailers you probably figured out, is a spirit wants vengeance on Jack Sparrow.
Otherwise stuff, like the search for Poseidon's Trident is as silly as the search for the fountain of youth in the last film. Also don't expect too much Orlando Bloom but it's nice to see him back nevertheless.
If this is the last one. Then it's not a bad ending. Maybe they should just end it with Dead Men Tell No Tales. - DirectorPatty JenkinsStarsGal GadotChris PineRobin WrightWhen a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, Diana, an Amazonian warrior in training, leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.****: Less bleak and way more fun and entertaining than Batman vs Superman. Gal Gadot is phenomenal throughout and has great chemistry with Chris Pine. Pine is also probably at his best with a sharp wit and charm.
The Nazi villains due feel like they could also work in a Captain America movie. Danny Huston and Elena Anaya give chilling performances nevertheless.
The big battle in the end between good and evil is just a little goofy. Gadot owns every scene though, even that one. Her lasso of truth would come off worse on the big screen. If everything she didn't either come off bad ass or humorous even. She could probably even pull off the invisible jet.
While Hans Zimmer may not do the score. His kick ass Wonder Woman theme from Batman vs Superman returns. Which was probably the best thing to come from that movie. That score goes with the character extremely well.
After the movie my niece said "that might be even better than any Marvel film!" As a fan of Marvel as well, I have to agree. Wonder Woman was amazing. - DirectorDavid SorenStarsKevin HartThomas MiddleditchEd HelmsTwo overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold hypnotize their principal into thinking he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.
- DirectorAlex KurtzmanStarsTom CruiseSofia BoutellaAnnabelle WallisAn ancient Egyptian princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.**1/2: I never thought I would say Tom Cruise is no Brendan Fraser. Fraser was perfect in a Mummy movie. Since he can handle campy. Cruise is lost with the campy material of this film. Also is lost when the film takes itself seriously. He looks like he wandered off the set of a Mission Impossible film.
The 1999 film aged pretty well and has a great score by the late Jerry Goldsmith. As well as fine effects. While yes even Stephen Sommers was at his best.
This reboot or remake is not as fun as the 1999 movie. The movie is goofy but not always in a good way like I think the Fraser movie was at least.
Maybe Cruise should have took a break from all the "running" and played a vampire again in a Dracula reboot. Since he can play an action hero in his sleep. Also if you want to start a monster universe. Then you start with Dracula or Frankenstein. - DirectorBrian FeeStarsOwen WilsonCristela AlonzoChris CooperLightning McQueen sets out to prove to a new generation of racers that he's still the best race car in the world.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsMark WahlbergAnthony HopkinsJosh DuhamelA deadly threat from Earth's history reappears and a hunt for a lost artifact takes place between Autobots and Decepticons, while Optimus Prime encounters his creator in space.**1/2:
Like the last four Transformers movies, The Last Knight is over-long and overstuffed. While Akiva Goldsman (Batman & Robin, Lost in Space, The DaVinci Code) who came up with the story added some DaVinci Code like subplots to the film. Which has Anthony Hopkins sending Mark Wahlberg's character on a quest to find Merlin's staff.
The upside is that there's some nice visuals and set pieces. There's some laughs too. All that seems wasted on films that don't add up to much. Sarcastic Spoiler Alert: They all have pretty much the same ending for movies that are so epicly long. "My name is Optimus Prime and I will always fight for humans and their planet....blah blah blah."
Michael Bay, before the start of some recent movies at theaters bragged about testing the limits of IMAX for the viewers. Yeah when he did that, he let the writer of Batman & Robin worry about the story. The film looks great but is it great ? No. - DirectorSofia CoppolaStarsNicole KidmanKirsten DunstElle FanningThe unexpected arrival of a wounded Union soldier at a girls school in Virginia during the American Civil War leads to jealousy and betrayal.
- DirectorLucia AnielloStarsScarlett JohanssonKate McKinnonZoë KravitzThings go terribly wrong for a group of girlfriends who hire a male stripper for a bachelorette party in Miami.
- DirectorKyle BaldaPierre CoffinEric GuillonStarsSteve CarellKristen WiigTrey ParkerGru meets his long-lost, charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru, who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist.***: If you're out of ideas, you add a twin brother. Still, Despicable Me 3 is charming and fun. Trey Parker does his Randy Marsh voice as Balthazar Brat. A some-what cliche villain obsessed with the 80's. He has his moments nevertheless.
The charm is mostly due to the Gru and Dru bonding scenes. The minions are funny but isn't entirely sure how to use them this time around. So they wind up in prison just for crashing an American Idol like reality show. - DirectorAndrew Jay CohenStarsWill FerrellAmy PoehlerRyan SimpkinsAfter the town takes away their daughter's college scholarship, a couple start an illegal casino in their friend's house to make back the money.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsAnsel ElgortJon BernthalJon HammAfter being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.***1/2
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.***1/2: Spider-Man: Homecoming is fun and funny. I like that it's a little like the Ultimate Spider-Man show where Peter wants to be an Avenger. While Tony makes him some costumes. The Spectacular Spider-Man like aspect is Peter's crush on Liz (Laura Harriet).
While Michael Keaton actually gave me chills at times as Adrian Toome/Vulture. Keaton managed to give us one of the better on screen Marvel villains. Probably also the best on screen Spider-Man villain since Green Goblin and Doc Oct as well.
Some casting is still questionable though. Tony Ravolori has funny moments as Flash but he made me want to see a real bully sphow up and kick his ass. Like a Flash Thompson from the other movies lol. This Flash couldn't bully someone in a Disney Channel show.
I enjoyed the movie but when people ask me how it was, I will probably just say "it was funny!" So that alone unfortunately doesn't make it the best Spider-Man movie I have ever seen. Since a lot of laughs are the most memorable thing about it.
Well despite fine work by Tom Holland, Michael Keaton and of course Robert Downey Jr.. Chris Evans also deserves some credit for those hilarious pep talk videos for High School kids. - DirectorMatt ReevesStarsAndy SerkisWoody HarrelsonSteve ZahnAfter the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.****: A great ending to the trilogy. An emotional rollercoaster of a ride with amazing work by Andy Serkis. Michael Bay should take notes. This is how you make a epic series of movies.
The movie feels like an epic western, prison break movie and war film all in one. It works though very well. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsFionn WhiteheadBarry KeoghanMark RylanceAllied soldiers from Belgium, the British Commonwealth and Empire, and France are surrounded by the German Army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.****: A pulse pounding musical score by Hans Zimmer throughout fits the film. Since it's a War film that grips you and never lets go. I would call it one of Nolan's best but all his films are equally as good as each other.
- DirectorLuc BessonStarsDane DeHaanCara DelevingneClive OwenA dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Definitely deserved for a lot more money at the Box Office.
If you enjoyed Fifth Element, you will like Valerian as well. It's highly imaginative, action packed and funny. - DirectorDavid LeitchStarsCharlize TheronJames McAvoyJohn GoodmanAn undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents.***
- DirectorTony LeondisStarsT.J. MillerJames CordenAnna FarisGene, a multi-expressional emoji, sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji.
- DirectorNikolaj ArcelStarsIdris ElbaMatthew McConaugheyTom TaylorA boy haunted by visions of a dark tower from a parallel reality teams up with the tower's disillusioned guardian to stop an evil warlock known as the Man in Black who plans to use the boy to destroy the tower and open the gates of Hell.**: Stephen King's best work, gets a watered down adaption. That feels like the director and screenwriter, both never even read the books. Roland (Idris Elba) in the books is obsessed with getting to the Tower. Here he only cares about revenge on the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) who killed his father.
While Jake's (Tom Taylor) backstory is a bit tampered with too. I am pretty sure in the book, he got to Roland's world by being shoved in front of a car by a mad man. I am sure Jake being obsessed with drawing Roland and his world is from like the 2nd or 3rd book.
The books were quite violent and graphic. With a Western like feel to them. There's not much screenwriter Akiva Goldsman got right. The plot is a incoherent mess that doesn't feel like any of the books. While none of the books are close to PG-13.
The best things about this movie is the Idris Elba and Tom Taylor chemistry. As well as the humor of when Roland tries hotdogs or Soda for the first time.
McConaughey tries hard to play a cold hearted bastard and succeeds on some levels. Maybe because his character does some evil things. Otherwise I think they needed someone like Willem Dafoe who could play evil in his sleep.
All in all, Sony and Akiva Goldsman are where this adaption went wrong. As well as being too short. King's prized possession shouldn't be in the hands of the studio that brought us the Ghostbusters reboot and the Emoji movie.
While Goldsman hasn't adapted one book well. The screenwriter of Batman & Robin shouldn't be allowed near anything Stephen King. Especially The Dark Tower. Adapting the Dark Tower, proved he shouldn't have been near it. What a mess with so much potential to be more. - DirectorAdam WingardStarsNat WolffLaKeith StanfieldMargaret QualleyA high school student named Light Turner discovers a mysterious notebook that has the power to kill anyone whose name is written within its pages, and launches a secret crusade to rid the world of criminals.**1/2: Not exactly the show, at all. While it tries to do too much with a 90 minute movie. When the show had 37 episodes. At least it's visually stunning with a well cast Willem Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk.
Light (Nat Wolf) is now a cliche troubled teen who's mom died that lives alone with his father. He finds a note book who can kill anyone who's name he puts with the cause of death. He uses the book to stop all bad people.
Light was also a giant *beep* in the anime series who didn't just target bad people. Targeted anyone in his way. While his mom was alive and well in the show and he had a sister.
Keith Stanford is some-what L like. He's strange and likes to eat a lot while on a case. Except here he eats a lot of candy instead of Japanese food. Still, he doesn't feel right. Maybe because his performance isn't that good.
While the violence is like something from a Final Destination movie. They over do the head explosions and other limbs flying everywhere.
So you don't have to watch the Anime show to watch this. Since they aren't enough alike. You could watch the show to see how it's done though. I am sure the live action Japanese films are better too. - DirectorEric SummerÉric WarinStarsElle FanningDane DeHaanCarly Rae JepsenAn orphan girl dreams of becoming a ballerina and flees her rural Brittany for Paris, where she passes for someone else and accedes to the position of pupil at the Grand Opera House.***: There's plenty of heart to the story about following your dreams. That the film should appeal to kids and adults. Even if it feels a bit familiar. Like Annie and Oliver familiar.
- DirectorPatrick HughesStarsRyan ReynoldsSamuel L. JacksonGary OldmanOne of the world's top bodyguards gets a new client, a world class hitman who must testify at the International Criminal Court. They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial alive and on time.

Despite the weak ending that leads into Annabelle, the first film I guess. Since this a prequel.
- DirectorAndy MuschiettiStarsBill SkarsgårdJaeden MartellFinn WolfhardIn the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together to destroy a shape-shifting monster, which disguises itself as a clown and preys on the children of Derry, their small Maine town.****: A year after the disappearance of his brother Georgie, Bill (Jaeden Lieberher) is obsessed with finding him. Due to being the only one in his family who believes Georgie is alive. During his search for Georgie he and his friends start encountering an evil clown named Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard).
As well as having home issues to get through and a horrible bully named Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) to deal with every day. Being a teenager is hard enough without an shape shifting clown trying to eat you and your friends.
I expected the movie to scar me for life, since the original did. A lot of the movie is quite touching, funny and even fun. Yes, there's some terribly frightening moments but the coming of age sentimental stuff is what I mostly left with. I felt kind of good after the movie rather than losing sleep.
The casting is perfect as is every performance in the movie. Bill Skarsgard is a amazing as Pennywise. He's scary as hell, throughout. Probably the best villain performance since Heath Ledger's Joker. What mostly makes the movie fun though is Finn Wolfhard's performance as Richie Tozier, the smart-ass of the Losers Club. He gets all the best lines and is hilarious throughout.
IT is what you get when the director and studio actually care about the source material and want to do it justice. I wish I could say the same for the adaption of Stephen King's Dark Tower, since I read every book. So much more love and thought was obviously put into making this movie good. Which makes IT one of the best Horror and coming of age stories in years. As well as one of the year's best. - DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsTaron EgertonColin FirthMark StrongAfter the Kingsman's headquarters is destroyed and the world is held hostage, an allied spy organization in the United States is discovered. While some scenes were unnecessarily draggy. With that said, Blade Runner 2049 is still a great film. Due to a strong performance by Ryan Gosling , the visuals and the way it messes with your head.

A slasher film that feels like only teen girls will appreciate it. The camera cuts away from the kills and there's very little gore.

Batman and Superman suddenly brooding much less than they did in the previous film, doesn't work entirely. Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne suddenly wisecracking as much as Tony Stark feels forced.
While the CGI for the villain Steppenwolf looks like something from a PS 1 game. Steppenwolf is just a flat villain either way.
While the film feels rushed at times with bad pacing. Yes the movie is fun but I can't say much of the action was that good. Especially the final battle in the end. Where I can't say I was involved at all. Just felt like a bad boss battle in a DC video game. - DirectorStephen ChboskyStarsJacob TremblayOwen WilsonIzabela VidovicBased on the New York Times bestseller, this movie tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters the fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.
