How to Parallel Park for Teen and Young Drivers.
Peace and blessings everyone. How is everybody doing? Here is some guidance for those going out to parallel park for the first time. Scared? Don't be. While parallel parking may be the most confusing skill to master at first, it is the most useful when finding places to park in busy streets. Therefore, once the driver excel in parallel parking, they will be able to conquer anything in life. Therefore, the best way to handle parallel parking fears is to drive in reverse nice and slow.
Here are the parallel parking steps
(Before parallel parking, make sure there is room for car to fix between both cars. The driver can drive next to the middle space to see if the car will fit into that spot).
1. The first thing to do is to pull your car next to the front car, 1 to 2 feet away from the front vehicle. (Make sure the driver's rearview mirror matches with the front car rearview mirror).
2. If parking to the right, put car in reverse and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right (before moving, make sure there is no pedestrian or oncoming traffic behind vehicle. Best to look from the right shoulder while glancing to the left at times when reverse parking)
3. When the passenger's mirror is behind the front car license plate, start turning the wheel all the way to the left (new drivers are almost home)
(Option 2: While the first method mentioned above is the best technique to me, new drivers can use parallel parking steps 2 and 3 as alternatives. For example for step 2, new drivers can turn the wheel one full turn to the right, and for step 3 make two full turns to the left, which is a technique that many drivers use. Sometimes for Option 3, the drivers start by turning the wheel all the way to the right, straight out the wheel (when at 45 degree angle), and then finish the parking off by turning it all the way to the left. I suppose the drivers use Option 2 & 3 technique so they will not over turn the car they sharply turn the wheel to the right, which is a technique used for angle parking).
4. Next and final step is to even or straightening the car by turning it to the right by having the wheels toward the curb
Friendly reminder: try to be at least 8 to 12 inches away from the curb once finished with parallel parking.
Before parallel parking with real cars, parallel park with big orange cones until you get the hang of it. If helpful, new drivers can start parallel parking without the cones for confidence builder. When new drivers are learning to park with their teachers, it may be best to ask them which direction to turn the steering wheel instead of them telling drivers as they go, which may eliminate confusion.
