- DirectorLarry ShawStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonFrederick CoffinThe future of the X-Files project is jeopardized after Mulder secretly infiltrates the government cover-up of a UFO crash.I think this episodes sums up everything about what made the show great early on. Max Fenig is a great character, a prototype for The Lone Gunmen, but he leaves you with questions about his credibility. It's a shame the series didn't do much more with the character.
This is also the episode that starts to shed some light on "Deep Throat". The characters are well utilized, and it's a good starting point for getting to know Mulder and Scully's personalities.
When this episode aired is when I was officially hooked on the show. - DirectorDaniel SackheimStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonJerry HardinMulder and Scully investigate the mysterious case of a military test pilot who disappeared after experiencing strange psychotic behaviour. How do you make an Area 51 story without Area 51? Set it in Boise.
This is the first time the show scared me, and a bit of that still lingers, which happens at the end of the episode.
There is an iconic scene that remains one of the coolest in the series, and I used to have a poster of it. Now it's just one of my computer wallpapers. - DirectorFred GerberStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonHarriet Sansom HarrisMulder and Scully search for two missing girls who disappeared after their fathers were murdered in an identical fashion.
- DirectorRobert MandelStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonCharles CioffiAgent Dana Scully is instructed to debunk an FBI project dubbed "The X-Files," paranormal cases that have been reopened by Agent Fox Mulder.A great way to open the series. Lots of memorable stuff in this episode, especially Scully's first meeting with Mulder, and a particular nasal event.

- DirectorJoe NapolitanoStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonClaire StansfieldMulder and Scully track a legendary creature that has roamed the New Jersey countryside for over 40 years. Most people wouldn't list this as a favorite, but I always liked it. You get to see Mulder and Scully's personal lives a bit more, and it helps make it clear that they are more devoted to their work than having normal lives.
The story itself was loosely based on a monster known as The Jersey Devil, but presents it with a less fantastical approach, and seems more concerned with how people react than the monster itself. - DirectorR.W. It raises an interesting question about human nature.
