To avoid sleeping together, they stage a terrible argument, and Mallory spends the night in the washroom. The following day, Mallory and Marjorie have a genuine misunderstanding over the attentions of a French girl to Mallory. After reconciliation, Mallory gets off the train at a village in which there is a minister's convention, but, before he can return to the train, it leaves without him. Mallory hires a plane to follow the train, sees that a bridge ahead of it is on fire, makes a daring transfer from the plane to the train, and alerts the engineer in time to avoid disaster. Mallory and Marjorie are finally married in San Francisco and catch a boat to Honolulu for their honeymoon.

In the flames, Joan is overcome with smoke and the reverend prays for her recovery. Miraculously, his prayers are answered, restoring the holy man's faith. With their leader's conversion, the members of his troupe also reform and the reverend finally is rewarded when his wife and his sight are both restored to him.

Inflamed with jealousy and taunted by McCool's insinuations, Jim determines to kill Channing, but he hesitates at an opportune moment and shoots McCool. Jim dies from a wound, and Channing and Jes are united.

The sisters and Fernand are cast up on an island and are there sheltered by a hermit, its only inhabitant. Seville and his pilot make a forced landing, and following a struggle between Seville and Fernand the entire party is rescued by the ocean liner.

Katherine seizes this opportunity and sets up housekeeping in the elegant suite, living well and dressing in the newest fashions. Her family appears unexpectedly, and Katherine tells them that she is married to Nicholas Wentworth, the apartment's owner. Mother Emerson, disturbed that Nicholas is not living with his "wife," writes to him in Europe and asks him to return. Nicholas arrives unexpectedly and is highly amused at Katherine's predicament, taking every opportunity to make her miserable. Katherine finally decides to tell her family the truth, but she is forestalled when Nicholas, who has decided that she would make a good wife, asks her to marry him.

The two brothers rescue Oliver's wife and Duclos, the trapper, is killed by one of the Indians whom he had double-crossed.
