SMALLVILLE SEASON 1 RATINGS
Sups teen years done right!!!
First of all everyone involved in putting this show together deserves congratulations. There is an incredible amount of warmth and love in the show that forces you to get hooked with it. Be warned that this show has a lot of drama/romance. But not only it works, it enhances even more the show's charm. Why? Because the characters are so darn likable and engaing and the cast and crew are so devoted to make them relatable to us. You just live along them their problems, concerns and anxieties like your own. T.Welling's portrayal of a young Clark Kent is a fanboy's dream come true. I am thrilled with how many of Sups later traits he conveys in his performance (and with the Superman nods the writers are laying to us throughout the season). Lana, who could have easily ended up being annoying, thanks to brilliant writing/dialogue and K.Kreuk's deep and cute voice, is the ultimate love interest for any protagonist (and the ultimate drama queen too). The show also provides the best versions of Clark's parents. I have to praise the outstanding for a 2001 s.1 of a show special effects, literally nothing looks fake. Smallville itself looks and feels like an actual town that you yourself travel every time you watch the show. Finally, of course I have to praise the showstealeling ingredient of s.1 which is Lex Luthor. There is masterwork in this department. I mean in all these years we have numerous amazing live- action Luthors, but still this unknown (to me at least) guy, M.Rosenbaum, offered a special and phenomenal performance. His relationship with his father, the way he deals with his personal problems, his view of the world, how he affects and is affected by Clark, his best friend (yeah you read it right), everything builds to something great later on (hopefully!!!)
On the negatives I would add that most of the villains suck and this prevents s.1 from being actually amazing and that (since we are talking about a 10season show) the best is yet to come
Overall rating: 8.8/10
