I'm cheating a little bit but for the first time I'm going to add television shows that I've watched but I'm not going to rate every episode but the series as a whole and their shows that are no longer running.

- DirectorLeo McCareyStarsIrene DunneCary GrantRalph BellamyA married couple file an amicable divorce, but find it harder to let go of each other than they initially thought."The Awful Truth" is not the funniest or zaniest of screwball comedies but for me at least it might be the most endearing because of the ending which works beautifully and makes this film something special...Grant has had great chemistry with most if not all of his leading ladies but I might put Dunne at the top...This is about the 4th time I've seen this marvelous film and my opinion hasn't changed,it's still one of my all time favorites.
10+ - DirectorVictor SjöströmStarsLillian GishLars HansonMontagu LoveA frail young woman from the East moves in with her cousin in the West, where she causes tension within the family and is slowly driven mad.Victor Sjöström was one of the great Directors of the silent era and this masterpiece is certainly the best I've seen from him...from beginning to end the wind is a part of this story and the effect it has on Letty who is in constant fear of it and the way Sjöström makes it almost a character in the film is absolutely amazing...this is my 3rd viewing of this classic and I marvel at some of the images and scenes he creates and this is the film that made me a fan of Lillian Gish...it's one of the great performances of the silent era,Lars Hanson is also quite good, the only qualm I have with this film is the ending was a little to Hollywood(I think a bleaker ending would of fit with the overall tone of the movie).
10 - DirectorRobert WieneStarsWerner KraussConrad VeidtFriedrich FeherHypnotist Dr. Caligari uses a somnambulist, Cesare, to commit murders.Back in the late 80's I saw a copy of this film that wasn't of the best quality but I was still able to appreciate it cinematically with it's dream like aesthetic and eerie sets but after seeing the film again on the Criterion Channel was absolutely blown away by the quality and appreciate it even more and am better able to see the influence this film has had on films and Directors to this day from some of the old Universal horror films all the way to the works of Tim Burton and Guy Maddin...a marvel of German expressionism that truly is one of the greatest horror films ever made and probably one of my all time favorites.
10 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsTeresa WrightJoseph CottenMacdonald CareyA teenage girl, overjoyed when her favorite uncle comes to visit the family in their quiet California town, slowly begins to suspect that he is in fact the "Merry Widow" killer sought by the authorities.I think this is one of Hitch's most accomplished works where everything works seamlessly from beginning to end where this sweet innocent family and town is unknowingly infiltrated by this dark menacing presence and nobody knows the better but one and how the suspense builds to it's inevitable conclusion is flawless...Teresa Wright and Joseph Cotten are exceptional and the rest of the cast play their parts well as character's come alive from a Norman Rockwell painting...I have to say the dark undertone to this film is quite shocking at times and makes this film one of Hitch's darkest, that speech that Cotten gives at the dinner table is chilling...3rd time seeing this masterpiece and it might even be better than I remember and is my favorite film of his prior to the 50's.
10 - DirectorRob ReinerStarsBilly CrystalMeg RyanCarrie FisherHarry and Sally have known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship. This is among the best romantic/comedies ever made, it's witty, charming and has one of the best comedic scenes in the last 30 years in the diner with 2 of the best performances in this genre from Crystal and Ryan and it's marvelously directed by Reiner...It's been about 20 years since I last saw it and my opinion is pretty much the same...it's one of the best films of the 80's,one of the best romantic comedies ever made and still one of my all-time favorites.
10 - DirectorJohn HustonStarsHumphrey BogartWalter HustonTim HoltTwo down-on-their-luck Americans searching for work in 1920s Mexico convince an old prospector to help them mine for gold in the Sierra Madre Mountains.A simple tale of greed told about as good as can be done...John Huston's direction is flawless, he's rarely been better and Bogart and Walter Huston are exceptional,if there is a weak link to this film it's Tim Holt who's performance almost seems bland compared to the other 2...3rd time I've seen this gem and my opinion hasn't changed.
10 - DirectorPreston SturgesStarsJoel McCreaVeronica LakeRobert WarwickHollywood director John L. Sullivan sets out to experience life as a homeless person in order to gain relevant life experience for his next movie. When I first saw Sullivan's I thought it was as perfect a satire on the movie industry as I've ever seen and felt it was perhaps even more relevant today...I thought the dialogue was wonderful,Sturges was at his best and the cast was perfection and for the most part still do but after seeing it for the 3rd time I'm finding some of the more dramatic moments not quite as effective as I once thought, not because they don't have power to them but they seem to belong to a different movie and don't quite flow with the lighter moments as well as I once thought...that being said I'd still rank this as one of the greatest comedies ever made and one of Sturges best but with each viewing it has gone down a notch and will probably go from my top 100 to 200.
10 - DirectorJean RenoirStarsJean GabinDita ParloPierre FresnayDuring WWI, two French soldiers are captured and imprisoned in a German P.O.W. camp. Several escape attempts follow until they are eventually sent to a seemingly inescapable fortress.Grand Illusion is a war film, a prison film, a film on class, a political film of the times dealing with the fear of what was coming and in the end it's a human story and as his best films do, it stays with you...this is my 2nd viewing of this exquisite film and my opinion's pretty much the same...it's one of Renoirs most beautiful films and the acting is superb by most of the cast.
10 - DirectorGeorge CukorStarsCary GrantKatharine HepburnJames StewartWhen a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself.I'm one of these people who has always felt Hepburn was at her best in comedies and here she shines in a role tailor made for her, although she has her dramatic moments at times but it's the whole cast that makes this something special...Grant,Stewart,Hussy,Young and adorable Virginia Weidler are all exceptional and Cukor has rarely been better...this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen Philadelphia and my opinion hasn't changed much.
10- - DirectorJonathan DemmeStarsJodie FosterAnthony HopkinsScott GlennA young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.Silence ranks as one of the greatest psychological thrillers ever made from Demme's brilliant direction to Hopkins turn as one of the most memorable characters of all time and Foster's understated but equally brilliant performance as Clarice Starling it's hard to find fault with it,other than it's so ingrained in my memory that I'm not sure I appreciate it as much as I once did...For me this might be the most memorable film of the last 30 years.
10- - DirectorBilly WilderStarsMarilyn MonroeTony CurtisJack LemmonAfter two male musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women, but further complications set in.This screwball sex comedy is certainly way ahead of it's time but I have always had mixed feelings about just how great a film this is...I think the first 2/3rds or so for the most part is terrific,it's wonderfully paced filled with great dialogue and a lot of fun but I think the film slows down the minute Curtis does his Cary Grant act(I have to admit he does a great impersonation) to woo Monroe and for me at least that part of the film didn't engage me as much as Lemmon and Brown's relationship but it does end with one of the all time great lines in film and the 3 stars are at their best with honorable mention to Brown who comes close to stealing the film...I've seen this classic a few times and my opinions always the same,it probably deserves a 9 but that final scene puts it over the top for me and makes this one of Wilder's best
10- - DirectorWim WendersStarsHarry Dean StantonNastassja KinskiDean StockwellTravis Henderson, an aimless drifter who has been missing for four years, wanders out of the desert and must reconnect with society, himself, his life, and his family. This exceptionally crafted road movie that deals with loss, pain, anger, love and redemption has always stayed with me...there is a poetic and visceral quality to the film that heightens it beyond most films of it's type, from Ry Cooder's score, to the beautiful vista's, the terrific story and marvelous performances from Stanton, Carson and the rest of the cast that makes it one of the forgotten gems of the 80's...this is my 3rd viewing of the film and my opinion hasn't changed and it's the film that made me go on a Wim Wenders binge and start watching many of his earlier films but for me at least none have come close to this near masterpiece.
9 - DirectorMichael CurtizStarsJames CagneyPat O'BrienHumphrey BogartA priest tries to stop a gangster from corrupting a group of street kids.Cagney at his best in this quintessential crime film that works on all levels for the most part(there's still a part of me that wishes he would of went out guns blazing so to speak instead of doing the morally righteous thing but that's just me), this is probably my favorite gangster film with Cagney and I do think the moralizing works better in this film than in some of the other Warner films of this type...O'Brien is quite good as the moral center and Bogart while far from his best is still good as the heavy but it is interesting to watch Cagney and Bogart together because you see the greatness in Cagney but Bogie wasn't there yet.
9 - DirectorDavid MalletStarsAC/DCAngus YoungMalcolm YoungFilmed coverage of legendary Australian band AC/DC's third headlining show at the "Monsters of Rock" festival in Castle Donington, UK.I've always been told that AC/DC is at their best live and this concert proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt...it's a high energy, exhilarating and entertaining concert that never lets up and has most of their best songs and I have to say some of the better moment's were from song's that I've never considered among their best like "High Voltage" and "The Jack" but for me it's watching the face of AC/DC Angus Young do his stuff from the patented duck walk to his guitar riffs and his running all over the stage, (to be honest he's where most of the high energy comes from) that I got the most enjoyment from...If your a fan you'll love it, if your not a fan it might not convert you but you still might get some enjoyment out of it because AC/DC does know how to put on a show and it makes me regret not going to see them back in the 80's when I had a chance.
9 - DirectorLeo McCareyStarsIrene DunneCharles BoyerMaria OuspenskayaA French playboy and an American former nightclub singer fall in love aboard a ship. While I still think this is a terrific romantic tearjerker, with 2 wonderful performances from Boyer and Dunne it's still gone down a notch from my first viewing and I'm not sure why other than I've seen to many films like this since I first saw it and even though this is still the best version of the story it's just not as fresh if that's the right word as it once was but it's still beautifully told.
9 - DirectorKenji MizoguchiStarsMasayuki MoriMachiko KyôKinuyo TanakaA tale of ambition, family, love, and war set in the midst of the Japanese Civil Wars of the sixteenth century.I seem to remember being wowed by this film the first time I saw it as it told me this tale of greed and ambition and even if I wasn't as wowed by it this time,it's still an exquisitely made film filled with marvelous imagery that ranks as one of this Directors best works.
9 - DirectorStanley DonenStarsCary GrantAudrey HepburnWalter MatthauRomance and suspense ensue in Paris as a woman is pursued by several men who want a fortune her murdered husband had stolen. Whom can she trust? The repartee between Grant and Hepburn make this one of the most entertaining of all Hitchcock style films that the master didn't direct,it also has great supporting work from Matthau and the rest of the cast...I've seen this film a few times and you do get the sense that the 2 stars were adlibbing at times and poking fun at each other which just added to the films charm.
9 - DirectorRidley ScottStarsSusan SarandonGeena DavisHarvey KeitelTwo best friends set out on an adventure, but it soon turns around to a terrifying escape from being hunted by the police, as these two women escape for the crimes they committed.Today films on female empowerment or sisterhood are a dime a dozen but when Thelma came out it was fairly new and was a breath of fresh air to the road/buddy film a genre that was becoming tiresome and it still holds up as one of the best of it's type but I have to admit my love for the film wasn't as great as it once was...this was a film that always took time to grab it's hooks in me and I think it's because it takes a while to care for these characters, especially Thelma who's naivete, ignorance or just plain stupidity bothered me but somewhere along the way as one spends more time with them I began to care for them and as they bonded I bonded with them and that's because of 2 stellar performances from Sarandon and Davis, there's also fine supporting work from Pitt, Madsen and Keitel and Scott's direction is superb...even though it's still a great film I used to consider this among the 10 best films of the last 30 years and on my top 100 but not anymore...I'm not really sure why other than some story elements seemed a bit contrived and unnecessary.
9 - DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryClaudine AugerAdolfo CeliJames Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme. There are things that don't really work as well as they should like the underwater fight scene but overall I think this is the 2nd best film in the franchise with one of the better villains and 2 of the better Bond girls...I can't lie I have a soft spot for Auger and Connery is at his best.
9 - DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.I'm not sure it's much better than Casino but I'll give it the edge mainly for Bardem who I think is one of the best villains in the franchise and has one of the better stories as well and Craig solidifies his place as Connery's equal...2nd viewing same as first.
9 - DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning 00 status and a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, Montenegro.Craig revitalized the Bond franchise with one of the darker films in the series and is helped by terrific work from Dench,Mikkelsen and especially Eva Green and I thought the interplay between her and Craig was the best thing about this film...I will say the poker game was pure Hollywood and not very realistic and was the only part of the film that didn't work as well as it should have...2nd viewing might even be better than first.
9 - DirectorPeter YatesStarsSteve McQueenJacqueline BissetRobert VaughnA nonconformist San Francisco cop is determined to find the underworld kingpin who killed the witness under his protection. For many this is the quintessential Steve McQueen film and I'm not going to argue...it's a well paced, exciting crime film with solid performances from most of the cast, especially McQueen who's rarely if ever been better and what I still think is one of the best car chases ever put on screen...4th or 5th time seeing this action classic and my opinion hasn't changed.
9 - DirectorÉric RohmerStarsMarie RivièreMaría Luisa GarcíaVincent GauthierIt's July, and Delphine has nowhere to go for the summer. She feels very bored and "empty", but this won't last; one day she accidently meets someone who seems to be totally made for her...There is a natural approach to Rohmer's film-making that I admire...the improvisation makes the characters and conversations feel real and this to me is one of his best which is saying something considering the main character can be quite grating at times with her whining and yet you still feel for her and that ending is quite moving...saw this film about 30 years ago and my opinion hasn't changed.
9 - DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsTommy Lee JonesJavier BardemJosh BrolinViolence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong and over two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.Even though I still have problems with the ending I found myself enjoying this film more 2nd time around and appreciated just what a wonderfully crafted noir this is and feel that if it wasn't for the ending would have probably ranked this as the Coen's best film...Jones and Brolin are terrific but it's Bardem who gives an unforgettable performance that will be remembered for ages.
9 - DirectorRichard BrooksStarsGene HackmanCandice BergenJames CoburnA pair of ex-Rough Riders, a former prostitute, a gunfighter, an aging cowboy and an English gentleman enter a 700-mile horse race through the Southwest desert in 1908.Another film that isn't quite as great as I once thought mainly because the narrative doesn't flow as well as I once thought and the ending wasn't as satisfying to me this time around...there are good performances here from Hackman,Coburn,Johnson and Bannen and the film is still a lot of fun but I do think if you think to hard you'll begin to question certain aspects of the story, such as how Hackman's character managed to always catch up with everyone when he always seemed to be way behind.
9 - DirectorClaire DenisStarsIsabelle HuppertChristopher LambertIsaach De BankoléAmidst turmoil and racial conflict in a Francophone African state, a white French woman fights for her coffee crop, her family and ultimately for her life.Denis's films can be a little aloof and cold and this ones no exception but it's also quite compelling with another marvelous performance from the great Isabelle Huppert who plays a woman in complete denial that her world is crumbling before her eyes.
9 - DirectorAbbas KiarostamiStarsJuliette BinocheWilliam ShimellJean-Claude CarrièreIn Tuscany to promote his latest book, a middle-aged British writer meets a French woman who leads him to the village of Lucignano. While there, a chance question reveals something deeper. The film reminded me of the Before films and Rossellini's "Journey to Italy" but it's the twist that's added to the film which made this relationship drama quite captivating...the question is are they a real married couple or just pretending to be(hence the title) although in the end I'm not sure it really matters because it's all in the eye of the beholder, one person will see it one way and another will see it the other...the 2 stars are magnificent especially Binoche who gives one of her best performances, this is the first film I've seen from Abbas Kiarostami and I can see why he's so highly regarded by many.
9 - DirectorMichael RitchieStarsRobert RedfordPeter BoyleMelvyn DouglasBill McKay is a candidate for the U.S. Senate from California. He has no hope of winning, so he is willing to tweak the establishment. The times may have changed but what this film shows brilliantly is that the political process hasn't even 50 years later which makes it a fascinating and entertaining watch and Redford gives one of his best performances in a role tailor made for him.
9 - DirectorTim HunterStarsCrispin GloverKeanu ReevesIone SkyeA high school slacker commits a shocking act and proceeds to let his friends in on the secret. However, the friends' reaction is almost as ambiguous and perplexing as the crime itself.I'm not sure the film has the power and potency it did when I saw it back in 87(the fact that it was based on a true story was more shocking back when I saw it than it is now, sadly) but it still resonates with me, maybe because I new kids like this when I went to school, kids who lead aimless lives and were emotionally dead and needed something to make them feel alive, which usually involved acts of violence and here we have a kid who felt truly alive after killing his girlfriend and the people in his inner circle aren't sure how to feel about it, if they feel anything at all...the acting is first rate by most of the cast but for me it's Glover who was the most riveting even if his performance borders on being over the top.
9 - DirectorWilliam WylerStarsSylvia SidneyJoel McCreaHumphrey BogartThe lives of a young man, a young woman, an notorious gangster, and a group of street kids converge one day in a volatile New York City slum.Dated as it may be this slice of life crime drama still works for me mainly for Wyler's solid direction and good performances from most of the cast, especially McCrea and Bogart who gives one of his best performances as a heavy...I've seen this film a few times and my opinion's pretty much the same but the moralizing is a bit heavy handed which exists in many of the Warner films of this ilk at the time and with repeated viewings I think this film will go down a notch because of it but not yet.
9 - DirectorRaoul WalshStarsJames CagneyOlivia de HavillandRita HayworthQuick-tempered yet likable Biff Grimes falls for the beautiful Virginia Brush, but he is not the only young man in the neighborhood who is smitten with her.Another film that I haven't seen in about 35 years but it's still as delightful and engaging as I remembered... this period piece romantic/comedy has a keen sense of time and place with memorable songs and Cagney,Hayworth,de Havilland and the slimy Carson are terrific.
9 - DirectorHerk HarveyStarsCandace HilligossFrances FeistSidney BergerAfter a traumatic accident, a woman becomes drawn to a mysterious abandoned carnival.Less is indeed more in this dreamlike, eerie, haunting and atmospheric horror film that is a classic of it's type and must of been an influence to Directors like Lynch,Rollin and Romero...it plays like an episode of The Twilight Zone but one of it's better ones,it's exceptionally Directed by one hit wonder Harvey and has a far better performance from it's lead actress than you would expect, especially when you compare it to the lead actress in Romero's classic "Night of the living Dead"...I saw this film about 30 years ago and much of it's imagery has stayed with me...2nd viewing pretty much same as first.
8 - DirectorMario BavaStarsMichèle MercierLidia AlfonsiBoris KarloffBoris Karloff hosts a trio of horror stories concerning a stalked call girl, a vampire-like monster who preys on his family, and a nurse who is haunted by her ring's rightful owner.I think this is one of the best anthology horror films ever made and it's certainly my favorite Bava film where his visual style has at least for me never been better...the first 2 stories are quite good but it's the final one with Karloff that stands head and shoulders above the rest...I saw the English language version which apparently changes one of the stories a bit and has the 3 tales in a different order from the original Italian version but hopefully one day I'll see the original which is considered even better...3rd time seeing this near classic and my opinion hasn't changed.
8 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantGrace KellyJessie Royce LandisA retired jewel thief sets out to prove his innocence after being suspected of returning to his former occupation.Visually pleasing and some nice Hitchcock touches plus 2 very appealing stars and those double entendres help make this a very enjoyable film and make you forget how thin the plot is...this is one of those rare Hitchcock films where the stars elevate the material more than Hitchcock's craftsmanship...4th or 5th time seeing this film and it's gone down a bit but not much.
8 - DirectorAntonio PietrangeliStarsStefania SandrelliMario AdorfJean-Claude BrialyAdriana, a naive Italian country girl, moves to Rome to become a movie star and experiences the dark side of the business. The pacing in this biting serio/comic look at celebrity doesn't always work and the ending seemed a little abrupt and didn't have the power it should have but Sandrelli's marvelous performance overcomes whatever shortcomings the film has...she comes across a naive waif who's oblivious to what's going on around her but than there are those close-up's of her face and those knowing eyes that show a reflective look and you realize she see's what we see...this was a nice surprise.
8 - DirectorGeorge CukorStarsKatharine HepburnCary GrantDoris NolanA young man in love with a girl from a rich family finds his unorthodox plan to go on holiday for the early years of his life met with skepticism by everyone except for his fiancée's eccentric sister and long-suffering brother.Even though the film may not be the great film I once thought it's still a highly entertaining film with Director and stars in fine form...there are those who consider this Grant and Hepburn's best film and among Cukor's best but I wouldn't go that far.
8 - DirectorShin'ichirô UedaStarsTakayuki HamatsuYuzuki AkiyamaHarumi ShuhamaThings go badly for a hack director and film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie in an abandoned WWII Japanese facility, when they are attacked by real zombies.Zombies may be in this film but it's more about the creative process of film making and that's where this film shines...it's funny.inventive and a hell of a good time.
8 - DirectorRobert MontgomeryStarsRobert MontgomeryThomas GomezWanda HendrixWW2 veteran Lucky Gagin arrives in a New Mexico border-town intent on revenging against mobster Frank Hugo but FBI agent Bill Retz, who also wants Hugo, tries to keep Gagin out of trouble.Robert Montgomery proves he might be a better Director than actor in this stylishly made noir, actually the performances from most of the cast are first-rate...I have a feeling if I saw this one again I might like it even more.
8 - DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreBarbara BachCurd JürgensJames Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, with the help of a K.G.B. agent whose lover he killed. The best of Moore's Bond films that works extremely well for the first half and begins to peter out towards the final shootout...I found Bach to be one of the better Bond girls at least for the first half of the film but sadly she doesn't have much to do in the last act and Kiel certainly ranks as one of the better villains and he's far more menacing in this film than Moonraker where he basically parodied himself...it's not the great film I once thought but it's still well worth watching.
8 - DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsPhilip Baker HallJohn C. ReillyGwyneth PaltrowProfessional gambler Sydney teaches John the tricks of the trade. John does well until he falls for cocktail waitress Clementine.Hall is exceptional in this character driven drama and is the reason this film works as well as it does...Anderson's debut is another winner and for me at least ranks right up there with his best.
8 - DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsMaribel VerdúGael García BernalDaniel Giménez CachoIn Mexico, two teenage boys and an older woman embark on a road trip and learn a thing or two about life and each other. It took a while for me to get into this road movie, mainly because I found the 2 male characters unappealing at first, but as it went along this turned out to be a wonderful adult drama, beautifully directed and with 3 exceptional performances.
8 - DirectorRichard BrooksStarsWarren BeattyGoldie HawnGert FröbeA bank security expert plots with a call girl to rob three safety deposit boxes containing $1.5 million in cash belonging to three very different criminals from a high-tech security bank in Hamburg, Germany. Some of the more comedic moments don't work that well especially during the heist and the final chase scene which lasts about 20 minutes while good doesn't thrill as much as one would of liked but overall I found this to be a fun and engaging caper film with a solid Beatty performance though it's Goldie Hawn who shines best in this entertaining film...that giggle of hers is enough to put a smile on my face.
8 - CreatorDavid BenioffD.B. WeissStarsEmilia ClarkePeter DinklageKit HaringtonNine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.Despite the disappointing last season this was the most consistent of the television shows I've watched with marvelous performances from most of the cast, especially by Headey and Dinklage ,it was well made with great story lines in which the political gamesmanship was more entertaining than the action but what made it so special was the twists that you just didn't see coming,to be honest I was completely floored by some of the surprises but in the best sense and if it wasn't for that last season I would probably rank this as one of the greatest fantasies ever made...and for everything that was wrong about that last season what bothered me the most is the last episode and the way the 2 most important characters Daenerys and Cersei were written of the show,it's like the writers had no idea what to do with them and they deserved so much better since they to me alongside Tyrion were the best characters on the show.
8 - DirectorJames WhaleStarsBoris KarloffMelvyn DouglasCharles LaughtonSeeking shelter from a storm, five travelers are in for a bizarre and terrifying night when they stumble upon the Femm family estate.Highly entertaining and influential spooky house horror/comedy with one terrific cast and stylishly directed by the master Whale...I don't think it quite ranks with his best but it's a lot of fun...2nd viewing may even be better than first.
8 - DirectorRené ClairStarsBarry FitzgeraldWalter HustonLouis HaywardSeven guests, a newly hired secretary and two staff are gathered at a manor house on an isolated island by an unknown absentee host and are killed off one-by-one. They work together to determine who the killer is before it's too late.Even though I don't think this as great as many do,it is a well made and very enjoyable mystery with a solid cast...it's the 3rd or 4th time I've seen this film and my opinion's about the same.
8 - DirectorFletcher MarkleStarsÉmile GenestJohn DrainieTommy TweedTwo dogs and a cat set off on a treacherous 200-mile journey towards home.It plays almost like a nature documentary at times but this is one of Disney's better live action films where the animals are the stars and the humans sadly get in the way but the narration for the most part is quite effective...a film from my childhood that I loved that for the most part still holds up well and considering this was made before CGI you wonder how they were able to do it,especially some of the more dangerous scenes without them getting hurt.
8 - DirectorBob RafelsonStarsJack NicholsonKaren BlackBilly Green BushA dropout from upper-class America picks up work along the way on oil rigs when his life isn't spent in a squalid succession of bars, motels, and other points of interest. To my surprise my 2nd viewing of this character driven drama wasn't as effective as it was when I saw it back in the 80's mainly because I didn't find the story as engaging as I once did, even the iconic diner scene wasn't as memorable as I once thought...Nicholson is the one performance that stands out but I used to think this was one of his best, now I feel it's a solid performance but nothing special which is probably why the film wasn't the great film I once thought it to be and I'm probably being a little unfair to Karen Black because her character is meant to be grating and she does it well but I thought it was a bit much and I felt that way the first time I saw it to...Even though it's still a solid film I used to think this was among Nicholson's best not anymore, maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind.
8 - DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonRobert DaviCarey LowellA vengeful James Bond goes rogue to infiltrate and take down the organization of a drug lord who has murdered his friend's new wife and left him near death.I thought Dalton was quite good in his 2nd outing as Bond and this is the darker and edgier Bond and film I was expecting in his 1st film...the action scenes are terrific,Davi is one of the more sadistic villains in the franchise and a young Benicio Del Toro makes a memorable heavy but where the film falters is in the love triangle which never seemed believable to me and even though Lowell is undeniably beautiful I found her to be a passable Bond girl at best but there's no denying the Craig Bond originated here.
8 - DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsPaige O'HaraRobby BensonJesse CortiA prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.Terrific animation and some wonderful musical numbers help make this a very entertaining Disney film but like "The Little Mermaid" it wasn't as special as I once thought, the magic just wasn't there 2nd time around... I found some of the more dramatic moments just didn't work for me,especially at the end and the story as a whole just wasn't as engaging in animation form as it was in Cocteau's live action version but it's still better than Disney's own live action one.
8 - DirectorChia-Liang LiuStarsChia-Hui LiuLieh LoYue WongA man studies kung fu at the Shaolin Temple to fight back against the oppressive Manchu government.Considered by many to be among the greatest of martial arts films but the way this film ends is extremely disappointing with a fight scene that seems unfinished and it's abrupt ending that it takes away from the whole experience and I found some of the English subs on the silly side but there is an hour of greatness in this film when it focuses on the training of the monks at the temple which has some amazing choreographed scenes and the fights between the 2 monks is a marvel to watch and it's that part of the film that ranks with the best this genre has to offer if only that ending wasn't such a turn-off.
8 - DirectorPaul MazurskyStarsNatalie WoodRobert CulpElliott GouldTrendy West Coasters Bob and Carol try wife-swapping with square Ted and Alice.By today's standards the films pretty tame and plays it safe with it's look at open relationships and free love with an ending that many may consider a cop-out but I found it very entertaining mainly for the 4 wonderful and engaging performances by Culp,Wood,Cannon and Gould and I liked the ending.
8 - DirectorAlexandre O. PhilippeStarsClarke WolfeNicholas CullWilliam LinnAn in-depth voyage into the sci-fi film Alien (1979) with the visionary filmmakers who created it. See how one of the most terrifying movies of all time came to life 40 years ago, inspired by ancient mythology and our universal fears. The fun part is seeing how the inspiration for the Alien creature was conceived and how they did the infamous chest bursting scene but I have to admit what I found most interesting(as someone who's always viewed "Alien" as one of the best boo movies ever made) is the films observation on societal issues of the times that still exist today for that matter...whether intentional or not this documentary makes a strong case that there was more to Alien than meets the eye.
8 - DirectorTaylor HackfordStarsRichard GereDebra WingerDavid KeithA young man must complete his work at a Navy Officer Candidate School to become an aviator, with the help of a tough Gunnery Sergeant and his new girlfriend. This romantic drama seems a little more generic now than when I first saw it 35 years ago but the performances are still strong, especially Winger, Gere and Gossett Jr. and still make this a well worthwhile film but there's no denying it's not the great film I once thought...maybe I just wasn't as emotionally involved with these characters like I was the first time.
8 - DirectorJames ClavellStarsSidney PoitierJudy GeesonChristian RobertsIdealistic engineer-trainee and his experiences in teaching a group of rambunctious white high school students from the slums of London's East End.Poitier adds so much to this simplistic and very dated classroom drama and than there's that title song that on an emotional level the film works extremely well but on an artistic level not so much but in this case emotion wins out.
8 - DirectorJean-Jacques BeineixStarsWilhelmenia FernandezFrédéric AndréiRoland BertinTwo tapes, two Parisian mob killers, one corrupt policeman, an opera fan, a teenage thief, and the coolest philosopher ever filmed all twist their way through an intricate and stylish French-language thriller.I've seen this stylish thriller a few times and my opinion is always the same,it's a film that start's strong and pulls me into it's web of intrigue but by the end as engaging as it is I feel a little disappointed and it may be that this film has never lived up to the high praise it received and this was the "Pulp Fiction" of it's day...I actually think suspension of disbelief is a prerequisite to truly enjoying this film because I found the way it ends not very satisfying, that being said it's a very good film, just not a great one.
8 - DirectorRowland V. LeeStarsBoris KarloffBasil RathboneBela LugosiReturning to the ancestral castle long after the death of the monster, the son of Dr. Frankenstein meets a mad shepherd who is hiding the comatose creature. To clear the family name, he revives the creature and tries to rehabilitate him.The atmosphere and set designs make this one of the best of the franchise as does Lugosi as Ygor who really is the star of the film and Atwill is quite good as well but sadly Karloff has very little to do in this one and is relegated to being more of a monster and Rathbone was a bit to hammy but what works works extremely well...not quite as good as I remember but still a lot of fun.
8 - DirectorRobert ClouseStarsBruce LeeJohn SaxonJim KellyA Shaolin martial artist travels to an island fortress to spy on an opium lord - who is also a former monk from his temple - under the guise of attending a fighting tournament. This is another film to my surprise that turned out much better 2nd time around than first...I remembered this as a silly but mildly entertaining film held together by Lee and even though I still think there is a bit of cheesiness at times and it's not as polished as some of the best this genre has to offer I still found much to enjoy, especially the climax at the end with the mirrors and I thought John Saxon acquitted himself well and Lee commands the screen when he's on and is a lot of fun to watch even though I could do without some of his facial ticks...Lee was always better than the films he was in mainly because they were badly dubbed and I always found the sound effects during the fight scenes so over the top that I could never appreciate them the way one should, some of that does exist in this film to but after watching this and enjoying it as much as I did I'm willing to give those other films another try.
8 - DirectorChristopher GuestStarsFred WillardEugene LevyCatherine O'HaraA behind-the-scenes look into the highly competitive and cut-throat world of dog shows through the eyes of a group of ruthless dog owners.I can't say I found it laugh out loud funny but the film as a whole is quite humorous in showing us the absurdity of these dog shows and the people who enter them.
8 - DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydMary SteenburgenStranded in 1955, Marty McFly learns about the death of Doc Brown in 1885 and must travel back in time to save him. With no fuel readily available for the DeLorean, the two must figure how to escape the Old West before Emmett is murdered. Not quite as good as I once thought but still a big improvement over the 2nd one in which the sci-fi/time travel elements take a back seat to the western elements and even though it's a fairly traditional western I enjoyed it...I will say the whole Clint Eastwood schtick was fun but I think I got a bigger kick out of it when I first saw it 30 years ago.
8 - DirectorNeil JordanStarsBob HoskinsCathy TysonMichael CaineA man recently released from prison manages to get a job driving a call girl from customer to customer.Gritty, well made and acted noir, especially by Hoskins and Tyson that wasn't quite as good 2nd time around as 1st,mainly because the ending didn't quite satisfy.
8 - DirectorClyde GeronimiWilfred JacksonHamilton LuskeStarsBarbara LuddyLarry RobertsPeggy LeeThe romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt. Not quite as endearing as I once thought but it's still an enjoyable animated film with good songs and likable characters but I did find it a little sappy this time around.
8 - DirectorDavid MametStarsLindsay CrouseJoe MantegnaMike NussbaumA psychiatrist comes to the aid of a compulsive gambler and is led by a smooth-talking grifter into the shadowy but compelling world of stings, scams, and con men. When I first saw this film 30 odd years ago I considered it among the best films on con men I'd seen with terrific word play and a great performance from Mantegna and I still feel that way but seeing it again turned out to be a bit disappointing and it has more to do with the ending which didn't work for me at all and I have to say Crouse's somewhat monotone performance is both effective and ineffective which is how I felt when I first saw it...not the great film I once thought but still very enjoyable.
8 - DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsAdam SandlerJulia FoxIdina MenzelWith his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive.Another gritty drama from the Director of Good Time that's just as effective with solid performances from it's cast and Adam Sandler given the right material proves that he can indeed act and his performance is the real gem in this film.
8 - DirectorGeorge MarshallStarsAlan LaddVeronica LakeWilliam BendixAn ex-bomber pilot is suspected of murdering his unfaithful wife.Well made noir with the 2 stars in top form, although Bendix is the performance that stands out...Ladd and Lake made a few films together and this is probably their 2nd best next to "This Gun for Hire"- seen this film a few times and my opinion's pretty much the same.
8 - DirectorJack ArnoldStarsGrant WilliamsRandy StuartApril KentAfter Scott Carey begins to shrink because of exposure to a combination of radiation and insecticide, medical science is powerless to help him. There are many who consider this one of the great sci-fi films not just of the 50's but of all time and I remember seeing this film back in the 80's and being disappointed by it, thinking that it hasn't aged well especially in terms of SFX but I did like the story and seeing it again I like the story even more and there is an inventiveness to this film that I didn't appreciate first time around and an ingenuity in how Grant Williams deals with the world around him and I have to admit the fight with the spider works, so 2nd time around I found this to be a far more satisfying experience in which the things that work, work extremely well and compensate for the passable but dated effects.
8 - DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsSean ConneryKim BasingerKlaus Maria BrandauerA S.P.E.C.T.R.E. agent has stolen two American nuclear warheads, and James Bond must find their targets before they are detonated. When it comes to who's the best older Bond I'll give it to Roger Moore hands down but Connery is still acceptable in the role and still has a way with the quips and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this remake of "Thunderball" maybe because it has 2 of the better villains in the Bond franchise- Brandauer and Carrera are exceptional and help make you forget about the things that don't work...Basinger is one of the weaker and ineffective Bond girls and the way women swoon over Connery was embarrassing and there's no denying the final underwater showdown was a letdown but what I liked I liked a lot and made my 3rd viewing of the film the best.
8 - DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsJake GyllenhaalMélanie LaurentSarah GadonA man seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie.I can't say I fully understood this mindbender of a thriller but I sure enjoyed the ride it took me on...this is another winner from Villeneuve that may be to ambiguous for most, with plenty of symbolism and not a lot of easy answers but if your a David Lynch fan you'll probably get a kick out of it...it's the kind of film that deserves another viewing or more at least for me to try and figure out what the spiders represent haha...I have the say it's well acted by the 3 leads, especially Jake Gyllenhaal in a duel role.
8 - DirectorRobert AltmanStarsTim RobbinsGreta ScacchiFred WardA Hollywood studio executive is being sent death threats by a writer whose script he rejected, but which one?My 2nd viewing is pretty much the same as the first...I think it starts strong but goes longer than needed which is a problem I have with many Altman films but this was a film tailor made for Altman and he must of had a good time satirizing the movie industry and it is a fun film, among his most accessible but it's not as original as some people make it out be.
8 - DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsJennifer O'NeillStephen LackPatrick McGoohanA scientist trains a man with an advanced telepathic ability called "scanning" to stop a dangerous Scanner with extraordinary psychic powers from waging war against non scanners.I think I gave this film more credit than it deserved simply for it living up to the hype...the exploding head sequence and the final showdown were impressive, especially back in the 80's but I do think some of the performances are on the bland side with the exception of Michael Ironside who is the most memorable character in the film...even though I don't think it's the great film I once thought, it's still one of Cronenberg's best.
8 - DirectorAnthony MannStarsJames StewartArthur KennedyDonald CrispNewcomer Will Lockhart defies the local cattle baron and his sadistic son by working for one of his oldest rivals. Many of the Westerns if not all of the ones Stewart made with Mann tended to be broodier and darker than was the norm at that time and they showed a side at least to me of Stewart I'd never seen before...I always thought he was to amiable to play these kind of characters and boy was I wrong...I'm not sure how many Westerns Mann and Stewart made together but I think I've seen and liked all of them.
8 - DirectorJoseph M. NewmanJack ArnoldStarsJeff MorrowFaith DomergueRex ReasonAliens come to Earth seeking scientists to help them in their war. This is a sound and for the most part intelligent sci-fi film that works more for it's story than it's acting or interesting if dated special effects... I've seen this film a few times over the years but I don't think I've ever enjoyed it more than this time around.
8 - DirectorDavid LeanStarsCharles LaughtonJohn MillsBrenda de BanzieWidower Henry Hobson refuses to let his three daughters get married because he doesn't want to pay settlements, so they'll just have to outsmart him.Even though I wouldn't rank this as one of Lean's best film's his sure handed direction and 3 wonderful performances from Laughton,Mills and Brenda De Banzie helps make this a comedy well worth watching.
8 - DirectorGeorge MarshallStarsFred MacMurrayHelen WalkerMarjorie MainProfessional pollster Pete Marshall gets more than he bargained for when he heads deep into the Ozarks to investigate the disappearances of several of his colleagues.I found this murder/mystery romp to be a lot of fun and one of the better films of it's kind with fine work from most of the cast...this is another one of these films I'd never heard of that turned out to be a nice surprise.
8 - DirectorS. Sylvan SimonGeorge MarshallStarsIda LupinoGlenn FordGig YoungFortune seeker Barry Storm stumbles onto some clues that may lead him to the fabulous Lost Dutchman Mine, but others have tried and been murdered. Some of the flashback stuff doesn't work and it did make me think of "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" which it can't hold a candle to but on the whole I found this to be a very entertaining Western that's helped by a very satisfying ending...Ford,Lupino and Greer acquit themselves well in this tale of love and greed.
8 - DirectorFrank HenenlotterStarsRick HearstGordon MacDonaldJennifer LowryOne morning, a young man wakes to find that a small, disgusting creature has attached itself to the base of his brain stem. The creature gives him a euphoric state of happiness but demands human victims in return.I think the blending of comedy, horror and social commentary worked quite well, even it's low budget trippy visuals were fun...saw this film back in the day and didn't remember much about it other than liking it a lot and still do...for me this is the best film I've seen from Henenlotter.
8 - DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodLee Van CleefGian Maria VolontèTwo bounty hunters with the same intentions team up to track down a gang of outlaws led by a psychotic Mexican bandit, who is plotting an audacious bank robbery.Like Fistful it's been ages since I've seen For and for the most part it's as good as I remember it being, although I did think it dragged at times but Leone's stylistic touches,Morricone's score,Eastwood and Cleef(who is as much the star of the film as Eastwood) helped make this a tad better than Fistful.
8 - DirectorBryan BertinoStarsMarin IrelandMichael Abbott Jr.Julie Oliver-TouchstoneOn a secluded farm in a nondescript rural town, a man is slowly dying. His family gathers to mourn, and soon a darkness grows, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over the family.Atmospheric, moody, creepy and at times suspenseful horror film that works extremely well until the last 10 minutes or so which was quite disappointing...it's another horror film with an unsatisfying finale but it wasn't enough to deter how effective the film was overall at least for me.
8 - DirectorRoger CormanStarsVincent PriceBarbara SteeleJohn KerrIn the sixteenth century, Francis Barnard travels to Spain to clarify the strange circumstances of his sister's death after she had married the son of a cruel Spanish Inquisitor. Not quite the great film I once thought but it's still one of Corman's and Price's better films and one of the better Poe adaptations put on screen but I didn't find it as atmospheric as I once thought and I did think Price at times was a bit over the top which usually suits the characters he plays but didn't always work here.
8 - DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.2nd viewing pretty much same as 1st with the things I liked outweighing the things I don't...Downey,Rockwell and Johansson are great and I enjoyed the interplay between them as well as the humor...Rourke wasn't a very good villain, the final fight was disappointing and some of the story elements didn't work...I can certainly see people not liking it but I still found it quite entertaining.
8 - DirectorPanos CosmatosStarsNicolas CageAndrea RiseboroughLinus RoacheThe enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.Despite all the blood, violence and depraved characters this is a love story but unlike anything you've ever seen before with hallucinogenic imagery and another whacked out Cage performance and like "Color out of Space" I had a blast.
8 - DirectorDon ChaffeyStarsTodd ArmstrongNancy KovackGary RaymondThe legendary Greek hero leads a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece.Enjoyable fantasy that highlights some of Harryhausen's best work, especially the skeleton fight at the end which puts this film over the top for me...I've seen this film a few times and my opinion's pretty much the same but I do think if you can't appreciate Harryhausen's stop motion animation you probably won't find much here to like.
8 - DirectorAndrew PattersonStarsSierra McCormickJake HorowitzGail CronauerOne night in New Mexico, in the late 1950s, a switchboard operator and radio DJ discover a strange audio frequency which could change the future forever. There's nothing original here and at times I found it so dark that it was hard to follow but I still found this to be an engaging and entertaining sci-fi film that works extremely well and proves that sometimes less is more...it's low budget works to it's benefit for the most part.
8 - DirectorAlexandra DeanStarsHedy LamarrMel BrooksJennifer HomThe life and career of the hailed Hollywood movie star and underappreciated genius inventor, Hedy Lamarr.A woman ahead of her time who sadly never got the recognition she deserved until the end of her life for basically inventing wireless communication and it's that part of the story that was most interesting to me than the troubled starlet who seemed unable to find true happiness.
8 - DirectorRoy Del RuthStarsMaurice ChevalierMerle OberonAnn SothernAn entertainer impersonates a look-alike banker, causing comic confusion for wife and girlfriend.I wouldn't rank this among his best but Chevalier as always is wonderful in this fun and engaging romp as are the other cast members.
8 - DirectorRobert StevensonStarsHayley MillsDean JonesDorothy ProvineAfter a kidnapped bank teller uses a neighbor's wandering cat to send an S.O.S., the F.B.I. assigns a cat-allergic Agent to the case.To my complete surprise I found this to be a very entertaining and enjoyable Disney live action film in which the cat's the star of the film but the human cast is quite good as well, especially Jones,Mills and McDowall...certainly ranks as one of their better live action films.
8 - DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodGian Maria VolontèMarianne KochA wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge. When watching the film it's pretty easy to see why Clint became a star,he just commands the screen with his presence and for me along with Leone's direction and a pretty good Morricone score helps elevate this western remake of Yojimbo into a very enjoyable film but I certainly think it's not in the same league as Good or Once or Yojimbo for that matter...hard to believe it's been almost 40 years since I last saw it and my opinions pretty much the same.
8 - DirectorHenry CassStarsAlec GuinnessBeatrice CampbellKay WalshWhen a lonely, unappreciated farm-equipment salesman discovers he has only a few weeks to live, he withdraws his savings for a final holiday at a "posh" resort.Alec Guiness shines and gives one of his best performances as a man who's life is changed by tragedy in this engaging dramedy but the bitter sweet and ironic ending didn't quite work for me.
8 - DirectorRichard StanleyStarsNicolas CageJoely RichardsonMadeleine ArthurA secluded farm is struck by a strange meteorite which has apocalyptic consequences for the family living there and possibly the world.I don't know what it's like to have an acid trip but watching this hallucinogenic mind-trip of a movie has got to come close without the side effects of course but this film is out there and certainly won't appeal to everyone but I had a blast and this is one of the better films based on a Lovecraft story and Nic Cage is at his wacky best.
8 - 20091h 36mUnrated7.1 (2.9K)DirectorAndrew MonumentStarsLance HenriksenLarry CohenJoe DanteAn exploration of the appeal of horror films, with interviews of many legendary directors in the genre.I found myself quite engaged in this look at how Horror films evolved based on societal changes even if some of the observations were a little far fetched...having Leatherface from the remake of Texas compared to Osama Bin Laden was hard to swallow to say the least.
8 - DirectorAnt TimpsonStarsElijah WoodStephen McHattieGarfield WilsonA man in his thirties travels to a remote cabin to reconnect with his estranged father. This over the top comedy/thriller is probably an acquired taste but I had a lot of fun with it...Woods is in his element with this type of character and McHattie and Smiley also stand out.
8 - DirectorNorman JewisonStarsSteve McQueenFaye DunawayPaul BurkeA debonair, adventuresome bank executive believes he has pulled off the perfect multi-million dollar heist, only to match wits with a sexy insurance investigator who will do anything to get her man.Another film that isn't quite as good as I once thought,it's certainly good to look at and has a lot of style and both stars are quite good and the chess scene is among the most erotic scenes not just of it's era but of all time but the romantic interludes in the last third of the film kill the pacing and the film sputters to it's finale.
7 - DirectorLucio FulciStarsTisa FarrowIan McCullochRichard JohnsonStrangers searching for a young woman's missing father arrive at a tropical island where a doctor desperately seeks the cause and cure of a recent epidemic of the undead. One of the problem's I've always had with Fulci's horror films is that he goes overboard with the gore and lingers on it far longer than needed and many of his characters, especially the women are always frozen in terror when in a deadly situation and to be honest some of his horror films are just plain dumb but "Zombie" is a film that had many elements that worked,it has an atmosphere and primordial feel to it that is among the best of this genre as are the zombies and there are scenes that are very effective and for the most part the slim plot works...I've seen "Zombie" more than any other Fulci film and never liked it because the things I didn't like outweighed the things I did, yet the film has always stayed with me and to my surprise I found myself enjoying it this time around despite it's flaws,to be honest I don't think he goes as overboard with the gore in this film as he does in others and I have to admit the scene with the zombie attacking the shark was pretty damn impressive.
7 - DirectorHoward HawksStarsGary CooperBarbara StanwyckOscar HomolkaA group of professors working on a new encyclopedia while living in a Manhattan mansion take in a mouthy nightclub singer who is wanted by the police to help bring down her mob boss lover.I've seen this screwball comedy version of Snow White a few times and have always found it to be very entertaining with the stars in fine form and terrific supporting work from the rest of the cast and for the first hour or so I still felt that way but to my surprise the last 30 minutes or so just wasn't all that engaging especially the more sentimental parts...I used to think this was one of Hawks,Cooper and Stanwyck's better films but not anymore...it's a good film just not the great film I once thought.
7 - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartDoris DayBrenda de BanzieAn American doctor and his wife, a former singing star, witness a murder while vacationing in Morocco, and are drawn into a twisting plot of international intrigue when their young son is kidnapped. For me this is the lesser of the 2 versions where some of it doesn't really work(Doris Day singing to get her son's attention) and what works(the Albert Hall sequence) just doesn't work as well as it should and in the end I just never found it as suspenseful as it sets out to be but as with most Hitchcock films there's enough there to make it a worthwhile watch.
7 - DirectorJohn HustonStarsClark GableMarilyn MonroeMontgomery CliftA divorcée falls for an over-the-hill cowboy who is struggling to maintain his romantically independent lifestyle.Gable and Monroe's last film and it's an interesting character study of basically a bunch of loners and for the most part they both do fine work, although I did find Monroe's character a bit grating at times and Huston's direction is solid,I just wish I liked it more.
7 - DirectorChristopher LandonStarsVince VaughnKathryn NewtonCeleste O'ConnorAfter swapping bodies with a deranged serial killer, a high-school senior discovers that she has fewer than 24 hours before the change becomes permanent. There's nothing we haven't seen before but I had a good time with this horror romp and I thought Vince Vaughn was a hoot.
7 - DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.The first of the series is far from the best but it's still an enjoyable film that introduced us to most of the characters in which everyone acquits themselves well but it's Wolverine who stands out...2nd viewing same as first.
7 - DirectorGene SaksStarsWalter MatthauIngrid BergmanGoldie HawnA dentist pretends to be married to avoid commitment, but when he falls for his girlfriend and proposes, he must recruit his lovelorn nurse to pose as his wife. This fun little romp works for the most part because of 3 likable performances from the stars, especially Bergman and Hawn who deservedly became a star after her first major role.
7 - DirectorWilliam CastleStarsVincent PriceCarol OhmartRichard LongA millionaire offers $10,000 to five people who agree to be locked in a large, spooky, rented house overnight with him and his wife.Other than the approach to the material there's nothing here we haven't seen before from as far back to films like "Cat and the Canary" but it's still good campy fun.
7 - CreatorJames Manos Jr.StarsMichael C. HallJennifer CarpenterDavid ZayasHe's smart. He's lovable. He's Dexter Morgan, America's favorite serial killer, who spends his days solving crimes and nights committing them. This is the most difficult series to judge for me because the 1st couple of seasons are terrific and than it starts to go downhill with the last season being absolutely atrocious but I do think Michael C. Hall was exceptional in the lead for the most part as were some of the other performances but this was a series in which the writers ran out of material and the series just ran out of steam...I would give a 9 to the first 2 seasons and than it goes down from there but it's the last season in particular that bothered me because there's nothing there to hint at the greatness that once was and is the reason I'm giving it the rating I am,for me it's about as bad as it gets and I'd give it a 3.
