The World's 1000 Greatest Documentaries (In Progress)
As I have spent many hours (and still do), on this project. So are we going to have a quick look on the history of documentaries in this description - before I present the rules for the type of documentary’s that you find on this list. And the first thing that you have to know. That is that we have making documentaries since the beginning of the 1900's. And back then was we exploring every hidden areas of our world. So many movies from this time is from Asia & Africa. Where it´s (the directors), intention was to inform us (we in the west), about these countries. But unfortunately, so are they only a very romanticized view of this places. As in for example "Nanook of the North" (1922). However so is Robert Flaherty partially credited for the invention of the modern film structure. And has also been a big propaganda too. Yes Leni Riefenstahl's shameful film for the German Nazi Party is a really scary reminder of how strong influence you can made on people whit. And modern documentary’s (from 2010), are often (how less or how much we like), made from some specifik opinion. There schould thefore be no surprise to you - that many of the documentary’s that I have in this list are also ranked among The World’s Greatest. But let this be very clear. Every title in this project are ONLY the ones that I consider as The World's Greatest documentarie

Beginning with that fateful day, 15 April 1989, the film details the horror of the tragedy, told through the experiences of those directly involved: fans, survivors, family members and police officers. Many speak publicly for the first time. It captures the horror of the crush on the terraces, revealing the prejudices held by the police towards football fans. It exposes the police commanders' abject failure in leadership as the tragedy unfolded, and their deceit and determination to deflect responsibility for their failures in crowd management onto those who survived. The documentary exposes the lack of dignity shown to bereaved families as they arrived in Sheffield to identify their loved ones laid out in body bags on a gymnasium floor. Looking at what made Tyke snap, the film goes back to meet the people who knew her and were affected by her death - former trainers and handlers, circus industry insiders, witnesses to her rampage, and animal rights activists for whom Tyke became a global rallying cry. After the conclusion of the public inquest in 2011, a multitude of previously untold stories emerged of the bravery, difficulties and horror that people experienced on that day in 2005; many of these have been included in this film as well as testimony from people who have never spoken publically before. This is an ambitious retelling of the story of what happened on that day, with contributions from commuters, emergency service workers, TFL staff and families of victims.
