Keaton: 'Holmes Is the New Hepburn'
26 December 2007 (WENN)
Katie Holmes is the new Audrey Hepburn, according to actress Diane Keaton. The Annie Hall star will appear alongside Tom Cruise's wife in 2008 movie Mad Money, and she insists 29-year-old Holmes has the grace and charisma to become the world's next great humanitarian icon. Keaton tells Parade.com, "It's just so beautiful to watch a girl become a young woman. I tell you, I think it's a miracle. I remember how I was at that age and how my obsession was to be Audrey Hepburn, my idol. "Now Katie has the candle. She's more adventurous than I am. Being the wife of Tom Cruise, she's been thrown into a world you can't really be prepared for, yet Katie handles it with grace. "Like Audrey Hepburn, she's like celebrity royalty. She has a calm center in the storm of whatever is going on around her."

Eddie Albert Dies at 99
28 May 2005 (IMDb News Flash)
Eddie Albert, the versatile actor forever associated with the classic TV comedy Green Acres, died Thursday of pneumonia at his home in California; he was 99. Although he made his screen debut in 1938 and appeared in a number of films, Albert's film career took off considerably after his service in World War II, and in the 50s he embarked on a career that consisted primarily of acclaimed supporting roles in a variety of films, usually as the sidekick to the star. He was the photographer who tagged along with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday (a role which earned him an Oscar nomination), played a cowardly army officer in Attack!, and provided comic relief as Ali Hakim in Oklahoma; other notable films in the 50s included I'll Cry Tomorrow, The Teahouse of the August Moon, and The Sun Also Rises. In 1965, though, Albert ascended to leading man status as the hero of the sitcom Green Acres, in which he played a New York attorney who yearned for the country life, and dragged his glamorous wife (Eva Gabor) to the tiny, eccentric town of Hooterville. His duet with Gabor of the show's title song was enough to earn him a place in pop culture history, but Albert continued to work practically non-stop after the show ended in 1971. As he aged, Albert also played more menacing, morally questionable characters, and earned a second Oscar nomination for The Heartbreak Kid, playing Cybill Shepherd's intimidating father. Though a number of the films and TV shows he appeared in were decidedly B-level, Albert always brought a sense of class and grace to his parts, whether they were dramatic or comedic. Albert is survived by his son, actor Edward Albert, a daughter, and two granddaughters. --Prepared by IMDb staff

Gazzara Reveals Sad Hepburn Romance
27 December 2004 (WENN)
Dating Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn was one of the saddest times actor Ben Gazzara can remember - because she was such a haunting beauty, convinced she wasn't a good actress. The couple fell in love on the set of Bloodline in the late 1970s and enjoyed a brief affair as their marriages collapsed, but Gazzara still has mixed emotions about the time he spent with the big screen beauty. He says, "She was unhappy in her marriage and hurting; I was unhappy in my marriage and hurting and we came together and we gave solace to each other and we fell in love but it was impossible. She had a life in Europe and Switzerland and where you will. I'm in LA with another life. Life got in the way of romance." Gazzara spent much of the romance trying to convince a far from confident Hepburn that she was a great actress. He recalls, "We were having a drink in Munich, where we were shooting a picture called Bloodline and she told me, 'Do you know Ben, I never thought I was a good actress.' She was so self-effacing and that's why, on the screen, she was so genuine because what you saw on the screen you saw in life - that smile and the way she lit up a room. She just had it."

Liv Tyler's Charity Inspiration
5 December 2003 (WENN)
Actress Liv Tyler was inspired to become an Ambassador for children's charity Unicef by Angelina Jolie and her idol Audrey Hepburn. Tyler signed to work as a National Ambassador for the charity's American fund after meeting the late Hepburn's son at a charity fundraiser. She explains, "I was really blown away and inspired by everything that she had done for children via and through Unicef and I guess it really, really floored me in a way that I hadn't ever felt toward a public figure before." To see her kindness was inspiring and spoke to me as a person. She was so real and so elegant." And Jolie's recent work as a Goodwill Ambassador for Unicef in Asia was important to her too, "I am also inspired by what Angelina Jolie is doing by traveling to places like Cambodia to help children by actually being there and being more involved."

Bend It Like Beckham star Parminder Nagra is winning rave reviews in America for her debut in hit TV show ER. The British beauty caught the eye of casting directors following the success of the soccer film earlier this year, landing a role as Neela Rasgotra, a medical student born in India and educated in London and Chicago. With her first episode on the series, which aired in America last night, critics have given the actress their seal of approval. Josh Friedman of the Los Angeles Times refers to Nagra as having "a touch of that certain Audrey Hepburn something", while Brian Lowry of Hollywood trade publication Daily Variety notes the actress is "a terrific and extremely natural addition".

Former Model/Actress Parker Dies
6 May 2003 (WENN)
Model-turned-actress Suzy Parker - one of the most recognizable faces of the 1950s and a forerunner of the supermodel - has died at the age of 69. Parker - known in later life as Suzy Parker Dillman - died on Saturday night at her home in Montecito, California, according to her stepdaughter. Famous for her full, red hair and beautiful bone structure, Parker was the signature face for designer Coco Chanel. In 1957, Parker made her Hollywood debut in the musical Funny Face, alongside Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn. Parker's other film credits include Kiss Them For Me, opposite Cary Grant, and Ten North Frederick, starring Gary Cooper. She also appeared in television series like The Twilight Zone and Tarzan. Longtime friend Nancy Failing says, "She'd led the glamorous life and she was ready to draw in her horns."

Hepburn Auction Raises Thousands for Kids
28 April 2003 (WENN)
Legendary trend-setter Audrey Hepburn raised thousands of dollars for children last week - after admirers of the late actress splashed out on a collection of her clothes and personal items. The My Fair Lady star's son - Sean Hepburn Ferrer - says the money would be used to support the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund which works in conjunction with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF). Before Hepburn's death from colon cancer in 1994 at the age of 63, she served as an ambassador for UNICEF - raising awareness of children's issues around the world. Among the items on auction were a Givenchy ball gown worn by the doe-eyed actress in the 1957 film Funny Face, which sold for $17,000, and a new collection of 25 multicolor Lacoste shirts, which sold for $2,000. The sculpture Spirit Of Audrey, by the artist John Kennedy, went for $6,000. In total, $177,000 was raised by the event.

Robin Williams Attacks Michael Jackson
28 February 2003 (WENN)
Comedian Robin Williams has ridiculed Michael Jackson's claims he was the victim of racism at the hands of record label Sony - because the pop superstar doesn't belong to a race. Jackson made the shocking allegations after his album Invincible filed to rack up the anticipated sales when it was released in late 2001. But the former Mork & Mindy star insists the 44-year-old Bad singer can't be racially-discriminated against, because the now fair-skinned African-American star doesn't belong to any race. She says, "Michael Jackson's standing outside Sony with a sign claiming racism. I said, 'Honey, you gotta pick a race first. All of a sudden you're a black man, then you're Diana Ross, now you're Audrey Hepburn. Then he's got the little beard going on. He's like Lord Of The Rings, the entire cast. Michael's about to jump species."

Movie Reviews: 'The Truth About Charlie'
25 October 2002 (StudioBriefing)
Critics have generally reached the identical conclusion about Jonathan Demme's The Truth About Charlie -- that people would be better off renting the 1963 original, Charade, which starred Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, than shelling out big bucks to see this remake starring Mark Wahlberg and Thandie Newton. "What we get is not the truth about anything except the perils of remakes," comments John Anderson in Newsday. Comments Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News: "Comparisons are sadly inevitable. Mark Wahlberg is no Cary Grant, even if he has better abs. When Thandie Newton ... hands Wahlberg that famous line, 'You know what's wrong with you? Absolutely nothing!, ' you may feel an obligation to speak up." Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post recalls another line in the original movie in which Audrey Hepburn places her finger on the famous dimple of Cary Grant's chin and asks, "How do you shave in there?" Comments Hornaday: "Wahlberg ... not only doesn't have a dimple in his chin, he doesn't even look old enough to shave." Nevertheless, several reviewers do give the film some respectable reviews. Carrie Rickey in the Philadelphia Inquirer remarks: "Here is a love story for movie lovers." Liam Lacey in the Toronto Globe and Mail calls it "a substantial reconsideration of the original." Peter Howell in the Toronto Star finds it "an uneven but engaging remake." And Mark Caro in the Chicago Tribune gives it the ultimate in mixed reviews, writing "Remaking Charade could be seen as unimaginative or gutsy, foolhardy or noble, and you could apply all four adjectives to Jonathan Demme's The Truth About Charlie."

Hepburn's Sons Demand Back Star's Belongings from Museum
15 October 2002 (WENN)
Screen legend Audrey Hepburn's sons have demanded a museum return their mother's belongings to them - because the venue is turning into a tourist circus. The Breakfast At Tiffany's beauty, who died from colon cancer at age 63, lived near the Swiss village of Tolochenaz and when she died in 1993 her sons gave the local non-profit making museum priceless items from her private collection. Now both sons Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti believe the tribute has been taken too far and have demanded back the items they donated. Ferrer says, "This is my mother's resting place, not Graceland. We have completed our commitment but when we wanted the objects back, people went crazy." However, all the money donated to the museum is filtered back to Hepburn's favorite charities. Museum director Franca Price says, "As difficult as it will be to see Audrey's things disappear, we don't want to start a war. Maybe we should just let her rest in peace."
