Bruce Springsteen will be the subject of Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biopic from director Scott Cooper. The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is the top choice to star.
Writer and director Scott Cooper is no stranger to musical films, having written and directed the terrific 2009 drama Crazy Heart, which saw Jeff Bridges play an alcoholic country singer, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor.
Deliver Me From Nowhere, much like Bob Marley: One Love, which is still in cinemas, will focus on the creation of one iconic album, in this case Nebraska, which Springsteen made in 1982. It is often cited as his masterpiece. It was released between 1980’s The River and 1984’s Born In The USA, and Springsteen recorded it without his regular collaborators The E Street Band. Born In The USA is one of the best selling albums of all time.

Exclusive: In his first major film project since leaving as Netflix Film boss, Scott Stuber has teamed with Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein & Eric Robinson to make a film about The Boss. Scott Cooper is writing to direct Deliver Me from Nowhere, a narrative feature about Bruce Springsteen and the long effort to put together his seminal 1982 album Nebraska, which started to take shape as he and the E Street Band were laying down tracks for his massive hit album Born in the USA. It’s an adaptation of the Warren Zanes book published last year.
The Bear star Jeremy Allen White is top choice to play Springsteen, and talks are underway with A24 to make the movie. Negotiations haven’t begun with the actor, who would head to New Jersey for a fall shoot after the Emmy winner finishes Season 4 of The Bear in June.

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man was the McU's riskiest but most perfect casting choice. Chris Pratt, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Evans were actors simply perfectly cast for their roles. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad shined through as a standout success.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC's movies — both part of the shared DC Extended Universe and not — and other superhero franchises have had some amazing casting decisions save movies. The McU's casting has been constantly praised over the years. Marvel has had the good fortune of very rarely missing with its actor choices, and even when the studio had to recast certain roles, the new actors perfectly suited their characters and contributed to some of the McU's best films.
Differently from Marvel, DC movies have had a rougher decade. However, that does not mean that the major problem with them was specifically with the casting department. For instance,...

Actor Beau Bridges is being honored in a place of special significance to his family.
The star of The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Descendants, Norma Rae, and more than 200 other films and television series received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sonoma International Film Festival on Friday. His late father, actor Lloyd Bridges, traced his roots to the town in California’s wine country.
“I can really feel my dad, Lloyd’s spirit here with me in Sonoma, because this is where he was raised,” Bridges tells Deadline. “He was born in San Leandro and raised in Sonoma on Spain Street. He was an altar boy at the St. Francis Church, and then he moved to Petaluma, went to Petaluma High School. So, this is his territory, and to have this acknowledgement here in the seat of our family, so to speak, is really special to me.”

Carpenter almost didn't cast Russell in "The Thing" to maintain audience paranoia and suspense Other actors like Ed Harris and Jeff Bridges were considered for Mac, but Russell's grounded charm stood out Russell's ability to keep Mac relatable in tense moments makes him perfect for The Thing.
John Carpenter's The Thing features one of the most memorable Kurt Russell roles of all time, which makes it absurd to consider how he almost didn't get the part. The Thing remains a compelling sci-fi/horror film decades after it was first released, a tense monster movie that is equal parts paranoid thriller and gory splatter-fest. Russell plays R.J. MacReady aka Mac, the helicopter pilot stationed at a research facility in Antactica. When the station discovers an alien life-form capable of assimilating human beings and impersonating them, Mac is among those desperately trying to keep the thing from escaping.

New in theaters is “One Life” starring legendary actor Anthony Hopkins as real-life British humanitarian Sir Nicholas Winton. Just three years ago he led French playwright Florian Zeller‘s feature directorial debut “The Father.” It not only managed to win him a second Oscar for Best Actor following “The Silence of the Lambs” back in 1991, but it also made headlines. One reason was how it was unconventionally the final award presented during the telecast that year because the sentimental favorite, Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), was widely expected to win posthumously. Hopkins pulled off a huge upset, though, and he wasn’t even there to accept it. How did that win happen? Here are five reasons.

At the inaugural Academy Awards in 1929, native Pennsylvanian Janet Gaynor made history as the first American-born performer to win an Oscar by taking the Best Actress prize for her body of work in “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.” Over the subsequent 95 years, 215 more thespians originating from the United States won the academy’s favor, meaning the country has now produced 68.1% of all individual acting Oscar recipients. Considering the last decade alone, the rate of such winners is even higher, at 70.3%.
At this point, 96.8% of American-born acting Oscar victors have hailed from one of 34 actual states. Of those constituting the remainder, three originated from the federal District of Columbia, while four were born in the territory of Puerto Rico. New York (home to 49 winners) is the most common birth state among the entire group, followed by California (34), Illinois (13), Massachusetts (11), and Pennsylvania (11).

As shown by an MCU fan on Reddit, every MCU movie released so far features at least one Oscar winner, except for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Robert Downey Jr.'s 2024 Oscar win retroactively gives Avengers: Age of Ultron its only Academy Award winner. The MCU continues to attract top-tier actors, with upcoming Phase 5 projects featuring Oscar-nominated performers such as Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford, Florence Pugh, and Mahershala Ali.
A surprising MCU statistic shows the impressive amount of A-list talent Marvel Studios has amassed throughout the years, revealing how every movie in the franchise has had at least one Oscar winner, except for one Phase 5 installment. Throughout the McU's 16-year history, dozens of accomplished performers have joined the franchise, including multiple actors who have won Oscars for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, either before or after their MCU debut. Long before he won the 2024 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for “Oppenheimer,” Robert Downey Jr. made his screen debut at age five in the experimental 1970 film “Pound,” which was directed by his father and co-starred his mother and sister. Upon clinching said prize, he emulated only three other men who were first honored by the academy at least half a century into their acting careers. Considering both male categories (and only counting credited roles in feature films), his waiting period of 54 years far exceeds the all-time average, which now stands at 19.5 years.
Although nearly two full decades separate their time-of-win ages (58 and 77), Downey came within five years of breaking John Gielgud’s general record for longest acting career preceding an Oscar victory. The English performer has held that distinction since 1982, when he was lauded for his supporting turn in “Arthur” 58 years after debuting in “Who Is the Man?” (1924). While no male...

David Seidler, the London-born playwright and screenwriter best known for “The King’s Speech,” has died while on a fly-fishing vacation in New Zealand, as per a report in The Guardian. His spokesperson said he was in the location he most revered, doing the activity he most loved when he passed: “It is exactly as he would have scripted it.” The winner of the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for the Colin Firth-led film was 86 years old.
Seidler’s career began in Australian television in the late 1960s. He came to the United States in the early 1980s, working for the soap opera “Another World,” then writing television movies like “Malice in Wonderland,” something of an early version of the series “Feud” as it concerned Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons starring Jane Alexander and Elizabeth Taylor. After movies such as Dead Poets Society, Master And Commander and The Truman Show, Peter Weir won’t be making another film.
This year marks the 21st birthday of a flat-out masterpiece of a blockbuster, 2003’s Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World. Not just because it has a great telling of the weevils joke in it, the Russell Crowe-headlined film is genuinely wonderful and deserves a 4K re-release.
It’s also just one of the many terrific movies from Australian director Peter Weir who, across a career that’s spanned decades, has given us features such as Picnic At Hanging Rock, The Truman Show, Fearless, Dead Poets Society and Witness.
His last movie was back in 2010, the Jim Sturgess-headlined The Way Back. Since then, Weir has been linked with a film called The Keep that obviously didn’t happen. Peter Weir was also set to direct Shantaram,...

David Seidler, who won an Academy Award for writing the 2010 film The King’s Speech, died on Saturday at age 86. Longtime manager Jeff Aghassi said that Seidler died while fly-fishing, one of his favorite activities. “David was in the place he loved most in the world — New Zealand — doing what gave him the greatest peace, which was fly-fishing,” Aghassi said in a statement, per Variety. “If given the chance, it is exactly as he would have scripted it.” Seidler’s screen career started nearly 60 years ago when he wrote episodes for the Australia television series Adventures of the Seaspray. In the 1980s, he scripted episodes of the Days of Our Lives, Another World, and General Hospital. Seidler is also renowned for his biopic work, having co-written the TV movies Malice in Wonderland (starring Elizabeth Taylor) and Onassis: The Richest Man in the World (starring Raul Julia) and the feature film Tucker: The Man and His Dream...

Grounded in reality, The Last Picture Show offers a stark and somber look at growing up in a fading era of Americana. Characters reveal realistic regrets, desires, and disappointments in a small town where life doesn't necessarily get better with age. Unlike other coming-of-age films, The Last Picture Show portrays the brutal truths of youth and adulthood without melodrama.
Based on Larry McMurtry’s novel of the same name, The Last Picture Show is a wholly American heartbreaker. Rooted in a fading era when restless youth crossed unexpected paths with their listless elders, the film was a massive success upon its release in 1971. Earning eight Academy Award nominations and winning two Oscars, the film was championed by legendary film critics like Roger Ebert as a truly "Great Movie."

Beanie Feldstein is happy to have solidified herself alongside the select few who can claim the status of a “Coen Cop.” The actress’s role in Ethan Coen’s solo directorial debut, Drive-Away Dolls, puts her on par with Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson of Fargo fame, Tommy Lee Jones’ No Country for Old Men sheriff Ed Tom Bell, and True Grit’s Deputy U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) and Texas Ranger Laboeuf (Matt Damon). Launching herself onto the performance pedestal of all the law enforcement actors who came before her, Feldstein’s portrayal of Sukie fully lives up to the hype and nearly steals the spotlight from the movie’s leading characters. In an exclusive to Collider behind-the-scenes clip to celebrate the film’s March 12 arrival on demand, Feldstein and her peers talk about her no-nonsense role and how she fully grabbed the bull by the horns and refused to let go.

Actors often reprise iconic roles in unexpected places, like commercials, music videos, and TV shows. The appearance of familiar characters in new contexts can surprise and delight audiences, creating memorable moments. Some actors enjoy revisiting beloved characters for the joy of playing the role again and connecting with fans.
When an actor's performance in a role becomes so iconic that they're known for playing that character, they usually get asked to reprise the role in new and different places outside the original material. It can be shocking to turn on the TV one day and see an actor reviving a character thought long gone for a seemingly random project. However, the more niche and unexpected the circumstances are, the more fun an actor can have with the role outside the confines of a major movie or TV show.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction”), Robert De Niro (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”), Ryan Gosling (“Barbie”), and Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things”). Our odds currently show Downey (3/1) triumphing, followed in order of likelihood by Gosling (39/10), Ruffalo (9/2), De Niro (9/2), and Brown (9/2).
At 80, De Niro ranks as the ninth oldest nominee in the history of this category, which was established just six years before he was born. Less than eight years separate him from record holder Christopher Plummer, whose victory at 82 for “Beginners” (2012) would put him solely ahead of De Niro on the winners list. As it happens, De Niro already sits in sixth place among the youngest supporting male champs, having triumphed at 31 on his very first bid for “The Godfather Part II” (1975).

Wes Anderson is long overdue an Oscar. The iconic director has been nominated seven times and lost on all seven occasions. He earned his eighth nomination this year for Best Live Action Short Film for his Roald Dahl adaptation “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” (shared with Steven Rales).

The science-fiction and action-adventure movie Tron 3, also known as Tron: Ares, is officially moving forward after years of uncertainty. The Tron IP has technically never been a success; the original movie in 1982, written and directed by Steven Lisberger and starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and Cindy Morgan, was considered a box office flop, although its aesthetic and special effects made it a cult classic and kept it alive in people’s imagination for the decades that followed. As for Joseph Kosinski's Tron: Legacy, featuring Bridges, Olivia Wilde, and Garrett Hedlund, it was generally not considered a hit either when it came out in 2010; though it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound Design, it did not generate enough revenues to lift the franchise off the ground.

The 2010 science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy, was a box office hit. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, and Olivia Wilde, the film is a direct sequel to Tron (1982), and is directed by Steven Lisberger. Made 28 years after the first movie, Tron: Legacy made up in visuals and sound what it lacked in story. The movie was also nominated for an Oscar that year in the Best Sound Editing category, but lost to Richard King for Inception.

The Disney tentpole also stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson.
Production on Tron: Ares, which is directed by Maleficent: Mistress of Evil‘s Joachim Rønning, was delayed by last year’s SAG/AFTRA strike and started in January 2024.
Disney is targeting a 2025 release for the follow-up to the 1982 seminal science fiction film Tron and the 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy. While the Tron film centered on a video game designer (Jeff Bridges) entering his own creation, and the follow-up focused on his son (Garrett Hedlund) following in his footsteps,...

Ray Winstone reveals some not-so-fond memories of working for the MCU and the troubled production of Black Widow.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe succeeded in what many other franchises failed to deliver: casting bona fide thespians with prolific film careers to their credit. It's an extensive list of Hollywood's who's who headlined by the likes of Thor's Anthony Hopkins, Ant-Man's Michael Douglas, and Iron Man's Robert Downey, Jr. and Jeff Bridges. Ray Winstone joined the ranks of the McU's ever-expanding cast as Dreykov in 2021's Black Widow, which many considered a long-overdue solo debut for the titular Avenger. In that film, Winstone lent his brand of "tough guy" seriousness to an overtly villain role; the actor recalled the lows of that experience in a RadioTimes interview.

Cinema has long been one of the best mediums for storytelling, with a range of dynamic and talented actors helping bring to life these stories. While all major actors turn in memorable careers that span numerous roles, some actors leave an indelible mark on a particular character. Although these actors can have other iconic characters under their belt, there's no denying that a role becomes almost synonymous with their performer.
Although Hollywood doesn't always stick the landing with some castings, others are so strong that it can be difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. Indeed, some characters are so inseparable from their actors that it's almost impossible to recast without angering fans or failing to live up to expectations. Ranging from perfect superhero castings to unrivaled dramatic performances,

Kenneth Mitchell, known for his portrayal of several characters in Star Trek: Discovery as well as roles in Captain Marvel and Jericho, has died. He was 49.
Mitchell died Saturday in Los Angeles from complications of Als, his family told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Kenny was the keeper of countless enduring friendships,” they said. “Like a massive star exploding with kindness, pureness and a particular brand of silly, you were pulled right into his orbit. Once captured, Kenny could bathe you in positivity, compassion, thoughtfulness, and hilarity, and make you feel so loved.”
Mitchell played four characters across three seasons of Paramount’s Star Trek: Discovery: Kol, Kol-Sha, Tenavik and Aurellio. He also portrayed a young Captain Marvel’s father in a flashback in Marvel’s Captain Marvel and World War II flyer Deke Slayton in ABC’s The Astronaut Wives Club.

We're sad to report the passing of Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell at the too-young age of 49. His death was confirmed in an X/Twitter post (made via the account previously belonging to Mitchell himself) which eulogized him. Mitchell is survived by his family, including his parents, his siblings, and his wife, fellow actor Susan Pratt, and their children Lilah and Kallum (a GoFundMe has been set up for Mitchell's family by friends).
Mitchell built up a wide TV resume during the 2000s and 2010s. He didn't have many starring roles, granted, but he was in the main cast of the cult classic post-apocalyptic series "Jericho." Mitchell kept racking up guest roles on every major procedural series under the sun: "NCIS," "Grey's Anatomy," "Criminal Minds," "Castle" -- the list goes on.

The Old Man is a FX drama series based on Thomas Perry’s bestselling book, and it’s a hit!
The show premiered in June 2023 on Hulu, and was the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, and was the most-watched FX series debut on Hulu in its opening weekend. By the end of the same month, the show was renewed for a second season.
The series follows Dan Chase, played by Jeff Bridges, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.
Although the Hollywood strikes caused a delay in production on the second season, the show is still set to move forward with Season 2, and we know several stars expected to return.

It's been nearly a decade and a half since Disney took us back into the digital world of Tron with the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated sequel "Tron Legacy." Fueled by an unbelievable soundtrack from Daft Punk, the film from "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski was visually dazzling and offered up some exhilarating action sequences, even if the story left something to be desired. While certain elements of the movie haven't aged very well, such as a digitally, de-aged duplicate of a young Jeff Bridges who now looks like he's in an old video game rather than a blockbuster movie, I think "Tron Legacy" delivers a satisfying sci-fi adventure, and the highs outweigh the lows.
Well, with "Tron 3" reportedly starting production last month, there's no better time to revisit "Tron Legacy" in the form of an incredible new piece of artwork by artist Raid71, on sale today at Bottleneck Gallery.

Paul Giamatti could bring his excellent villainy to the world of Yellowstone spinoffs, creating captivating drama. A lot of sci-fi films helped shape the genre into what it is today, but perhaps none of them are as underrated as the 1982 film "Tron." The original entry into a franchise that would come to span several decades was studded with soon-to-be stars like the incomparable Jeff Bridges, who would go on to earn an Academy Award.
Bridges stars in the action-adventure as Kevin Flynn, a video game developer who gets trapped inside his own software and has to interact with the programs inside his computer's main frame to escape. Digital technology was still emerging in the 1980s, and computers were relegated to those with a proclivity for science. All that is to say, the public wasn't ready for a movie filled with symbolic computer metaphors, and the film was not a success.

In the 1980s, the Western genre suffered a decline due to the commercial and critical failure of Heaven's Gate. Heaven's Gate, directed by Michael Cimino, went wildly over budget and bombed at the box office, resulting in studios avoiding Western scripts for years. Westerns made a brief comeback in the 1990s with films like Dances with Wolves and Tombstone, but the genre's popularity has never recovered to its Golden Age.
The 1980s was the worst decade for Westerns, with the failure of one movie being (rightly or wrongly) to blame. During the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood, Westerns were one of the most popular genres. FX is about to enter a new era.
The network is grappling with how to replace a number of its long-running hits including Snowfall, Mayans M.C., What We Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dogs, Archer and Dave.
As such, John Landgraf, chairman of FX Content & FX Productions, is “sweating bullets” as he and his team search for new series to replace these shows.
“There was a time when you had these time slots and something was going in that time slot — it might be good, it might be bad, but it wasn’t going to be a color bar in that time slot,” he told Deadline. “Now if we put things on the air or on streaming that are bad, it tarnishes 20 years of hard work we’ve done to try to create a brand that’s synonymous with quality.”

“Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy was once in a two-way battle with “Killers of the Flower Moon” actor Leonardo DiCaprio for the top spot in our Oscars odds chart for Best Actor this year. DiCaprio was snubbed, however, while “The Holdovers” leading man Paul Giamatti has snuck up the leaderboard. We now have another two-race horse between Murphy and Giamatti.
The Irish actor has so far only triumphed at the Golden Globes, however, where he won Best Drama Actor for Universal’s historical epic. Giamatti won Best Comedy Actor at the same ceremony and then made a huge stride towards the Oscar podium by edging out Murphy to win Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards. Both men are nominated at SAG, where we think Giamatti will triumph, while they are also going head to head at the BAFTAs. This is where we think Murphy can claw back some power in this race.

Some movie characters are so intertwined with the actors who play them that recasting them would be sacrilegious. Actors like Sylvester Stallone, Jim Carrey, and Audrey Hepburn have created iconic characters through their unique performances. Characters like Rocky Balboa, The Dude, and Holly Golightly would not work without the actors who brought them to life.
Some movie characters are so intrinsically linked to the people who play them that they only work because of their actors and to even think about recasting them would be sacrilegious. Sometimes a movie character is written with a particular actor in mind to play the part and they can be imbued with the performer's mannerisms, personality, and characteristics to such a point that the character no longer works if they are not playing the part. Often this is due to the actors writing the part for themselves, being an important aspect of their development,...

Among the various distinctions “Everything Everywhere All at Once” incurred by winning seven awards at the 95th Oscars was becoming the first film in a dozen years (and ninth overall) to conquer both supporting acting categories. This rare occurrence involved Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis preventing their respective “The Banshees of Inisherin” competitors from accomplishing the same goal, as the sets of featured nominees from “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog” had both failed to do one year earlier. Now, two more pairs of cast mates – who happen to hail from the two highest-grossing live action movies of 2023 – are gunning for entry into this exclusive club.
The concurrent nominations of Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera (“Barbie”) and Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”) bring the total number of films that have ever vied for both Best Supporting Actor and Actress to 110. Although this marks the third...

Robert Downey Jr Once Opened Up About The Dangers Of Filming Iron Man (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Like any other superhero film or action movie, Robert Downey Jr had several stunts while doing the Marvel movies as Iron Man. There is a lot of CGI in such movies, but sometimes filmmakers like to use real explosions. For example, Christopher Nolan did not use any VFX to create the atomic bomb explosion in Oppenheimer. Similarly, some of the explosions in Rdj’s first MCU movie, Iron Man, were not all fake, and they scared the hell out of Downey.
The actor once recalled his experience filming the 2008 movie and compared it to walking on a minefield. Jon Favreau directed it. Actor Jeff Bridges was the main villain, Iron Monger in it. It has one of the iconic scenes of the MCU, the cave explosion scene where Tony walks out of his kidnapper...
