The Transformers franchise has covered so much ground since hitting the big screen in 2007, including planet-eating monsters, dino-bots, and a slew of heavy-handed Michael Bay-approved explosions. Now, they’ve entered a new frontier, with the trailer for Transformers One becoming the first movie trailer to debut in space.
The event kicked off early this morning with a live-streamed countdown showing the one-hour journey into space. When the craft reached its peak above Earth at 125,000 feet, the trailer was revealed, with an introduction from its stars Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry.
As the origin story for the robots and beasts at the heart of the franchise, Transformers One is set to be the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie. Hemsworth and Henry are joined by Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm, and the project was executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Transformers One, is going now on Sept. 20 instead of Sept. 13.
The move gets Transformers One further away from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which is going to eat up the September box office. However, already on this weekend is DreamWorks Animation/Universal’s Wild Robot. Two big animated movies are certainly not going to live on the same weekend.
The release date change also comes in the wake of the great reception that Transformers One received out of CinemaCon last week. Late September has been a rich bed for family animated movies including Hotel Transylvania 2 ($48.2M opening), Hotel Transylvania ($42.5M opening) and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ($34M opening).
Transformers One is among one of Paramount’s highest tested movies in the studio’s history.

Forget trailer debuts during football game halftimes or shown through “Fortnite,” the next frontier of debuting movie trailers is watching it on a screen that happens to be orbiting the Earth.
The first trailer for “Transformers One,” Paramount Animation and Hasbro’s animated “Transformers” origin movie, was screened inside a spacecraft that an hour ago launched from the Earth and traveled 125,000 feet into outer space. Paramount, via star Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram, did a livestream of the spacecraft launch followed by the first look at the trailer.
Why do this? “The sky is the limit” for the film, Hemsworth said in announcing the stunt.

"Transformers One" has released its first trailer, finally giving the public the peek that CinemaCon attendees got last week. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film looks to offer a breezy and colorful animated adventure akin to the "Spider-Verse" films.
Does the title "Transformers One" sound like a misnomer to you? Audiences have already been subjected to eight of these movies and they're infamously not good ("Bumblebee" is innocent and 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie" barely skirts by on nostalgia despite how cynical it was). Well, you see, the ninth "Transformers" movie will be going back to the beginning. Set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Robots in Disguise, the film is set before the Transformers got to Earth, before the Autobots and Decepticons went to war, and before Optimus Prime and Megatron had those names.

Autobots, assemble: Paramount has released a trailer for “Transformers One,” the animated prequel film led by the voices of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson.
Hemsworth voices young Optimus Prime, when he was just known as Orion Pax. Henry is D-16, before he became Optimus’ rival Megatron. The trailer shows the two starting out as simple worker bots, unable to transform into anything. But soon they gain the ability to change into vehicles and gain weapons, as a battle against a mysterious, plant-like villain unfolds on the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron.
Other cast members include Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion. Hemsworth and Henry introduced a first look at the prequel film April 11 at CinemaCon.

Bad Boys apparently really are for life as it seems that this action-packed franchise isn’t ending anytime soon with Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys 4 set to reach theatres in just a couple months. This series, centered on detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett of the Miami Police Department, has already produced three blockbuster films that have grossed over $840 million as well as a spinoff television show, L.A.’s Finest, making it one of the most successful buddy-cop action-comedy series in history. The most recent film, Bad Boys for Life, was one of the last movies to hit theaters before the pandemic shut them all down and was able to be a critical and box office success – so why would the franchise stop now? Arr you ready to walk the plank into some sexy, swashbuckling pirate action? Well, then you’re about as lucky as a treasure chest full of gold coins, because all four seasons of Black Sails are now streaming on Netflix.
The historical adventure drama, which originally ran on Starz from 2014 to 2017, hails from creators Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. With the 1995 release of Bad Boys, Will Smith may have achieved a major turning point in his career toward becoming one of the biggest stars in the history of Tinseltown. His performance in the action flick proved that he could manage a large-scale production, which helped him secure roles in other popular 1990s movies such as Independence Day and Men in Black.
However, did you know that Smith took issue with director Michael Bay’s well-known choice to have the actor, now 55, run in a scene while sporting ‘no shirt’? Jeanine Basinger, a veteran film professor, historian and author, helped build Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, into a film powerhouse during her 60 years at the institution. On April 20, the esteemed academic will receive the TCM Classic Film Festival’s Robert Osborne Award, which recognizes an individual who has helped keep the cultural heritage of classic film alive for future generations. Its four previous recipients were Martin Scorsese and film historians/authors Kevin Brownlow, Leonard Maltin and Donald Bogle. Basinger, a youthful 88, spoke with THR about her life and career.
How did you fall in love with movies?

I grew up in South Dakota, and at 11 I got a job as an usher at a local movie theater. My film school was watching movies — and how audiences reacted to them — over and over again. I began visiting film archives and interviewing film personalities who responded to my outreach. I was hooked.

Paramount scored a solid hit last year with the stylish and witty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and the studio already has a sequel to that one bubbling away in a cauldron of ooze, scheduled to land in 2026. Yet it clearly feels there is room to also revisit the characters in live-action form, and to take the concept in a darker, grittier and altogether more violent direction, setting up an adaptation of popular Idw comics title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
Turtles comic co-creator Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz wrote the book based on an older story by Eastman and his co-creator Peter Laird, while the art came courtesy of Esau and Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop and Eastman.
A pitch-black tale of dystopia, murder and vengeance – so you know, not for kids — The Last Ronin is set in a totalitarian future New York where Shredder's grandson...

Yo, Joe! The crossover your inner child has been screaming for became a reality after Paramount shared plans to develop a G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover film! Paramount Pictures teased the project in last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and now it’s official! Steven Spielberg is producing the live-action clash of two of the most legendary properties in entertainment, with the plot inspired by a story in the 1980s Marvel-published comics. No director is attached to the project, at least not yet. Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura returns alongside Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy.
Despite the story of the G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover taking inspiration from the Marvel comics era, both franchises are gaining popularity with new fans thanks to the current comic book runs published by Skybound. Skybound has published issues of the G.I. Joe comics Duke and Cobra Commander for several months,...

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th. With the film’s release date just a couple months away, it was no surprise to hear that Paramount was promoting it at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Those in attendance for the Paramount panel today were shown an extended trailer for the film – and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was there to tell us what he saw!
Lance sent in the following description of the trailer: “Set in New York. Lupita Nyong’o looks up to see the aliens shooting down to earth as everyone in the city looks at what seems to be meteors raining down. Chris Hemsworth, the voice of a young Optimus Prime, and Brian Tyree Henry, the voice of a young Megatron, got an enthusiastic welcome at CinemaCon as they introduced a first look and 3D scene from “Transformers One,” Paramount’s animated origin story based on the Hasbro toys. “This origin story is how they transformed from brothers in arms to sworn enemies,” said Henry from Las Vegas on Thursday.
In the clip, Optimus Prime, Megatron and their friends “proven worthy” are given their powers to transform — and awkwardly get accustomed to using those powers. They then enter a cargo train and for the first time see the surface of their home planet Cybertron, where the movie is set. The stylized look of the surface is a vast environment of rock-like structures that, like the bots, grow and transform.

Under $5 million; no first time directors (unless there’s a named producer); actually good. These used to be the tenets by which Blumhouse built its name. But oh how things have changed. It’s looking increasingly like the little studio that could is making a land grab for virtually every property in horror-dom.
The latest trailer to drop from Blumhouse is for Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name which caused a big buzz when it hit Shudder for being so utterly and depressingly grim. Blumhouse snapped it up and cast James McAvoy, star of Blumhouse movies Split and Glass, as the central psycho. James Waktins who made similarly nasty and misanthropic horror Eden Lake has directed and the film is set to release in September. The final moments of last year’s live action movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set the stage for an interesting franchise crossover. One year after Paramount Pictures broke news at CinemaCon that Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Brian Tyree Henry had signed on for the animated Transformers One — the first animated film in the franchise in nearly four decades — the studio welcomed that trio back to introduce their work.
Hemsworth, Johansson and Henry had official duties during Paramount’s studio presentation by pumping a new extended trailer that played for the gathering of theater owners (ahead of a wide launch April 18) as well as pulling back the curtain on the first scene from Transformers One in 3D. Johansson appeared on the big screen in a recorded message from New York, where she’s at work on her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.
“I’m so incredibly proud of the the work that we’ve all done,” the actress said, teasing that the film is “unlike anything you’ve ever seen onscreen.”

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise has been rolling and evolving non-stop since the original Mirage Studios comic book series was adapted into an animated series in 1987 and a live-action blockbuster movie in 1990, which essentially created the modern superhero comedy. Since then, there have been a variety of sequels and reboots in film and television, including the stellar animated overhaul that impressed the hell out of us in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" last year. But we're about to get another live-action "Tmnt" movie that will adapt one of the darkest comic book storylines in the franchise's history.
Paramount Pictures will be turning the hit comic book miniseries "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" into a live-action movie. This is a huge deal, especially since The Hollywood Reporter says it'll be R-rated, a first for the franchise. Tyler Burton Smith is set to write the screenplay, with Walter Hamada producing.

After the success of last year’s animated hit film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Paramount Pictures is keeping turtle power going by putting a new feature project into development.
This one, however, will go beyond the realm of the all-ages material the long-standing property is known for and instead go into gritty, R-rated, territory.
Paramount is developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, adapting a popular storyline seen in the recent Idw comics, as a live-action feature with the intent of making it for an R-rating.
Tyler Burton Smith, who co-wrote the upcoming R-rated action movie Boy Kills World and who wrote the 2019 iteration of Chucky horror franchise Child’s Play, is penning the script.

Stan Lee’s favorite DC character could find a place in James Gunn’s Dcu if one director were to helm the film. In the earlier Dceu, reports suggested that Michael Bay was attached to direct a movie featuring the character Lobo. The Transformers director has a knack for creating movies that gamble with absurd characters and produce amazing results. He might be the right fit to handle this character of an intergalactic bounty hunter.
The character of Lobo could still get a solo project in James Gunn’s Dcu
Interestingly, Jason Momoa pitched a solo Lobo film to Gunn during the promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Momoa became a fan of the minor Superman villain of the ’80s who became popular in the ’90s as a parody of grim and gritty characters who defined comics in that decade.

Lobo is an iconic DC character fans have been waiting eagerly for to make the jump into the live-action world. However, for years, the character has been waiting for his big break. Although Jason Momoa is now generating all the hype he can and advocating for a Lobo movie, Guy Ritchie was set to helm one back in 2010 but ultimately shelved the project in favor of directing Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Helldivers 2 players can’t get enough of the pure carnage and entertainment, the gameplay perfectly depicts intergalactic warfare and the lore is rich enough to keep players invested. However, not everyone is interested in fighting for democracy and would rather sit down with popcorn and soda.
Video game adaptations aren’t new, but decent, well-made ones are (see The Last of Us) and so it’d be interesting to see which side of the line Helldivers 2 falls on.
Fans Are Now Asking For A Helldivers 2 Live-Action Adaptation
Helldivers 2 is available on PlayStation 5 and PC, but the game could also make its way to a movie theater near you. Live-action film adaptations of video games are a sketchy part of Hollywood, but the curse seems to have been lifted with recent back-to-back successful projects. Perhaps Arrowhead could collaborate with PlayStation Productions and bring Helldivers 2 to life.
Anyone know any producers to create a movie?...

Alex Garland‘s Civil War has turned a lot of heads on a number of issues. His hypothetical film about a modern-day civil war can be incendiary on its concept alone, and with a lesser respected filmmaker and studio behind the project, many would accuse the film of exploiting a seemingly boiling issue. However, Garland is a director that movie fans know isn’t necessarily going to emulate Michael Bay after such heady films like Men and Annihilation. When the trailers were released and it was revealed that the film featured an alliance between two states with notably opposing politics, many questioned the possibility and purpose behind it.
So, how did California and Texas unite to form the Western Forces? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Garland addressed this decision at a special screening of the film. The director says it was “intentional” as it was “partly to get around a kind of reflexive,...

After 2007’s Transformers became a huge box office hit, Hasbro would pull from another of their popular properties that also had a place in pop culture with an 80s cartoon — G.I. Joe. However, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra would not do the kind of numbers that Transformers had brought in, and the style was surprisingly geared more towards the Michael Bay film with some sci-fi twists rather than a more straight-forward military combat movie with colorfully eccentric characters. The sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, would offer more of what many would come to expect from the property and had actually become more successful commercially (mostly thanks to Dwayne Johnson‘s star power).
