The Overwatch community may not be as toxic as some other communities, but things are getting bad enough that Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan says it's slowing the game's growth.
"The rising tide of toxicity or bad behavior in the game versus what are we Blizzard going to do about it and what are we as a community together going to do about it...the bad behavior is not just ruining the experience for one another but the bad behavior is actually making the game progress at a much slower rate."
Kaplan goes on to say that because Blizzard has been forced to spend more time handling bad player behavior and responding to the reporting system regardless of whether or not the claims are valid. This keeps the Overwatch team busy and gives them less time to create characters, maps, or things of that nature. Kaplan asked those who play the game...

Overwatch will be celebrating its first birthday next week with a brand new Anniversary event, and while Blizzard’s yet to detail exactly what that will entail, they’ve now released a new clip via the shooter’s Chinese Overwatch Facebook page that reveals a handful of the new skins players will, with a bit of luck, be finding in their Loot Boxes in the near future.
New Legendary skins for Bastion, Pharah, Soldier 76 and Zarya are all shown off in the video, all of which have a distinct flavor. Bastion’s new paint job, in particular, looks fantastic – Blizzard has seen fit to replace his usual parts with those that resemble an off-road racing car. We can’t wait to see what he looks like after transforming into tank mode.

Overwatch turns one next week and, as expected, the folks at Blizzard are going to be celebrating the shooter’s biggest milestone yet with a whole host of updates as a means of saying thank you to all the players that have helped make it such a huge success over the last 12 months.
It all begins with a new event to follow on from last month’s Uprising, but judging from what we know so far, there’s going to be considerably more meat on the bone with this particular limited-time affair. As per a recent interview with Polygon, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan confirmed to the site that, coinciding with the Anniversary event on May 23, standard Loot Boxes – that is, the version that’s available in-game outside of events – will be receiving an update to their loot pool, meaning players will have new items to chase all year round rather...

As of now, Overwatch has been out in the open just shy of one whole year and since then, only two new maps have been released for the shooter. Ecopoint: Antarctica and Oasis, both of which made their way in-game as part of post-launch patches, have helped to make both casual and competitive play feel fresh, but are two new maps a year enough to keep the player base engaged and satisfied? A similar question is currently up for debate over on Overwatch‘s official forums (via VG247), with Jeff Kaplan on hand, as always, to provide a helpful update to fans dying to know more.
According to the game director, Blizzard’s currently juggling the development of six new maps for Overwatch, three of which are already past the “initial playtesting phase” and looking “likely” to see a release this year.

It’s been a while since Overwatch last had an in-game event that hands out special skins, sprays and other limited-time cosmetics like candy, but that could all be about to change rather soon, by the looks of it. Blizzard has released a new comic for the shooter that delves deeper into Overwatch‘s intriguing lore and it appears to tie neatly into the teaser released earlier this week. Uprising, which you can read in its entirety over here, is set seven years prior to the events of the game on the eve of a historic peace accord.
King’s Row, it seems, was once besieged by an extremist faction of robots known only as Null Sector, with Overwatch itself having, for unknown reasons, been forbidden from getting involved in the conflict by the British government. Find...

Following a spate of teasers earlier this year hinting at who Overwatch‘s 24th hero would be, the final reveal, which we now know ended up being the quadruped robot Orisa, probably wasn’t what everyone was expecting. Doomfist, a character frequently referenced both in-game and in other Overwatch-related media, was who many had suspected the next hero following Sombra would be, not least because of various teasers involving actor Terry Crews.
Alas, it was never meant to be, but according to recent comments made by game director Jeff Kaplan, Blizzard is already hard at work on hero No.25, with the mystery individual already “very far along in development.” When prodded for a status update on the next combatant to join Overwatch‘s cast, Kaplan told IBTimes:
Yes! I absolutely know who the next hero is going to be.

Psyonix’s smash hit soccer-with-cars game Rocket League has been available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for a good while by now, but is it likely we’ll ever see a release on Nintendo Switch? Given how easily accessible the title is and the bite-sized nature of any given match, its presence on Nintendo’s hybrid console could well prove to be a popular choice for those taking full advantage of its ability to be a mobile gaming platform, but it appears the developer is, for now at least, holding off on giving a potential port the go-ahead.
Speaking to IGN, Psyonix’s vice president Jeremy Dunham told the site that it’s currently “evaluating” whether or not a Switch version of Rocket League would be a viable route to pursue, citing fan demand and technical hurdles as potential roadblocks.
Just like all the other platforms, we are evaluating it.

Ever since its launch to a huge amount of fanfare last year, Blizzard has improved upon the core gameplay of Overwatch over the last 10 months, steadily introducing new characters, game modes and balance adjustments into the mix to help keep gameplay feeling fresh. Such devotion to ensuring that staleness doesn’t prematurely creep in before the end of Overwatch‘s natural lifespan is and continues to be impressive, but given how long-lasting Blizzard titles tend to be before they breathe their last, it’s hardly surprising that post-launch support has been incredibly strong.
Even so, the developer is undoubtedly always looking for ways to provide alternative methods of play, with one particular feature – the ability for players to create and modify their own maps – seemingly a popular choice among fans. As per a post over on Battle.

As per its latest ‘Developer Update‘ video, which aims to provide fans with regular information in regards to upcoming events, Overwatch lead designer Jeff Kaplan has revealed several drastic changes being made to vanilla character Symmetra in a future patch. We already knew Blizzard had been planning to rework the way in which the support hero played thanks to earlier comments made by Kaplan to Business Insider UK, but they’re far more extensive than you’d perhaps expect.

As per the latest update to Overwatch‘s Ptr (Public Test Realm) servers, it appears as if Blizzard is on the cusp of rolling out a few changes to the way in which players level in the competitive shooter, but will the result be more balanced than the system we currently have?
As of now, the amount of experience needed to level up your account steadily rises in small increments until you reach rank 23, upon which the required number plateaus until level 100 and then essentially reverts back to the early levels, where ranking up is considerably faster.

Following the implementation of the changes proposed by Blizzard, levelling past 100 will no longer reset the amount of experience required but instead continue to request the same amount indefinitely. While some players have accused Blizzard of making the...

Blizzard and Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan have released a new developer update video on YouTube, providing a state of play report on the past, present and future of the first-person shooter.
Kaplan covers a lot of the hot topics currently being discussed by the community in the 14 minute-long video, beginning with detailing various balance changes that are currently being put through their paces by those who have access to the game’s Ptr (public test realm).
Tweaks to Junkrat’s steel trap ability and Widowmaker’s sniper rifle scoping animations are just some of the things Kaplan touches on during the video, but it appears as if the main focus in regards to existing character changes is Symmetra. Blizzard had revealed previously that the support character would receive changes in the future due to players seemingly not taking well to her playstyle, but Kaplan has more to add on the matter.

Like others before it, Blizzard’s Overwatch – besides being a terrific, almost perfectly-tuned team-based shooter – sells itself on offering diversity by way of its large roster of eclectic characters all with a unique set of abilities. Because of that very fact though, maintaining a general power equilibrium between every single character can often prove to be rather difficult, a problem that appears to be affecting one of Overwatch’s support characters – Symmetra.
According to comments made by Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan to Business Insider UK, the team are looking at making several changes to the character in order to make her a more appealing pick. Currently, Symmetra is one of Overwatch‘s “least-played heroes,” according to Kaplan, adding that “she’s a hero who’s very situational and she actually gets played a fair bit, but she gets switched off of.

Blizzard has confirmed in an extensive post on their Battle.net forums that a future update to Overwatch‘s Competitive mode will no longer allow players to be in teams consisting of more than one of any hero.
Explaining the thought process behind the decision, director Jeff Kaplan said that both he and the development team agreed that the ability to engage in so-called ‘hero stacking’ had become “detrimental” to the overall experiences players are having with the shooter, and that certain individuals were using it to intentionally “frustrate their opponents.”
We feel that hero stacking is becoming detrimental and leading to some not-so-great player experiences. For example, we’ve seen organized teams on Assault and Hybrid maps use hero stacking to overtake the first point before the defense has a chance to counter.

The Overwatch open beta is live for a selection of early access players, but anyone already engrossed in the content may notice that one feature is currently absent. The Competitive Play mode has been taken offline by the developers, but with good reason as explained by Game Director Jeff Kaplan.
It seems that Blizzard are planning somewhat of an overhaul for the mode before the full release, as Kaplan stated on the official forums:
We worked extremely hard to get Competitive Play in the game for Closed Beta. We’ve been reading feedback from the community and taking it all to heart. As a result, we’ve temporarily disabled Competitive Play for Open Beta so that we can rework the system and make it better. Our plan is to bring back a newly re-designed version of Competitive Play sometime after Overwatch launches.
There hasn’t been much time in which to really test this feature,...

In an interview with Eurogamer, the developers working on Blizzard’s upcoming Mmo shooter Overwatch addressed some community concerns about the way players will progress and be rewarded within the game. Having previously only given vague half-answers to these questions, the air was cleared up slightly by game director Jeff Kaplan.
The titled is currently slated for an “early 2016″ release and recently finished some fairly popular closed beta testing. But while the feedback from the testing community has been very good, the question of in-game progression and post-launch monetization has been raised a number of times. In the interview this week, Kaplan fielded questions about how the game’s players would be rewarded:
Unlike World Of Warcraft or Diablo, where the progression is one of the main motivating factors in those games, whether it be what your level is or your gear, Overwatch is different in that sense. We don...

On Tuesday, Conan O'Brien introduced "Comedy For DVRs," a segment that is basically a little Easter egg for all of us who do nothing for his Nielson ratings (yet).
The only way to enjoy the joke, you see, is to pause... and pause... and pause.
This inaugural gag was called "Rejected Game Of Thrones" characters and, like SNL's "Fox & Friends" corrections, it's a long list that flies by way too fast to read. Fortunately, we had nothing better to do than painstakingly transcribe the full list, and we're here to tell you, it was worth it.
Watch the clip above, then check out the rejected names below and let us know which are your favorites. Personally, we're holding out hope that one day "Lady Sideboob Of Huffington" and "K.D. Langister" turn up on GoT.
