Collegiate women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment with Colin Jost and Michael Che.
Before Clark came on set, Che joked: “The University of Iowa announced that basketball star Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired and replaced with an apron.”
Clark, who plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes, is regarded as one of the greatest college basketball players ever. While waiting to hear her name called for the WNBA draft, Clark performed a skit in which she called out Che for mocking women’s sports and the WNBA.
She then revealed that she “wrote some jokes” for Che to hear and had him read them out loud.
Clark responded, “You make a lot of jokes about women’s sports, don’t you, Michael?”
Che then read Clark’s jokes, starting with, “The Indiana Fever has the first pick in this Monday’s draft.

Michael Che was humbled by basketball star Caitlin Clark when she crashed Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment after the comedian made a sexist joke at her expense.
“The University of Iowa announced that basketball star Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired and replaced with an apron,” Che said.
Che then introduced the real Clark ahead of the WNBA draft, where she is expected to be the No. 1 pick overall.
“I am a fan, Caitlin, by the way,” Che told the future WNBA star.
“Really, Michael? Because I heard that little apron joke you did,” Clark clapped back.
Clark called out Che for making a lot of jokes about women’s sports, which the comedian tried to deny. Colin Jost chimed in to say, “It’s definitely a lot,” and exposed Che with a super-cut of his past jokes.
“Unlike Che, I support women,” Jost said, throwing his co-host under the bus.

Caitlin Clark has already broken barriers in college basketball, and now she’s broken one in pro sports, even before leaving the NCAA.
Ice Cube’s professional Big3 league has offered the Iowa Hawkeyes’ point guard $5 million to play in the 3-on-3 half-court basketball competition. She would be the first woman to compete in the league stacked with former NBA players.
After TMZ initially reported the news, Cube confirmed it on Twitter, writing, “BIG3 made a historic offer to Caitlin Clark. Why wouldn’t we? Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3.”
The deal would reportedly allow Clark to still play in the WNBA after the 10-week Big3 season is over.
In January 2017, Ice Cube, along with entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz, announced the launch of the Big3, promising that it would feature some of the best players to ever play the game. Cube and...

Religion of Sports and Showtime Sports are teaming up on “Goliath,” a new three-part docuseries examining the life, career and impact of basketball icon Wilt Chamberlain from his emergence on the national scene as a high schooler in the 1950s through his death in 1999.
“We are honored to team up with this group of talented filmmakers to bring the under-examined story of Wilt Chamberlain’s complex life to the masses,” Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza said in a statement. “Everybody knows Wilt for his legendary accomplishments on the basketball court — scoring 100 points in a game, averaging 50 points and 25 rebounds in a season — but there’s so much more to him than his stats. He was far ahead of his time in so many ways that will last infinitely longer than the numbers on a scoreboard.”

Mickey Guyton lent her voice to an empowering tribute to women in sports and the strides they've made - and the ground left to cover - at the 2022 Espy Awards on July 20. During the Los Angeles-hosted award show, numerous women athletes took the stage to address the 50th anniversary of the Title XI legislation, which went into effect in 1972 and prohibits sex-based discrimination in any federally funded educational programs.
Guyton's performance of her 2020 track "What Are You Going to Tell Her?" was preceded by legendary tennis player Billie Jean King, who questioned the audience, "How do you measure 50 years? In the wins? In the number of obstacles you've overcome? The distance still to go?" Title XI "changed the game, but it's just a start," King said before Guyton began singing.

One test of a strong documentary is whether the subject matter could interest everyone or simply aficionados. It’s tough to imagine anybody watching “Unfinished Business” without immediately buying tickets to the next available WNBA game.
Director Alison Klayman (“Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry”) blends two approaches, offering us an introduction to the league itself as well as a closer look at the New York Liberty team. The truth is that both halves of this film deserve their own movie, but since each is equally compelling, Klayman never once loses our attention.
It certainly helps that she’s got such an extraordinary cast of participants. Wonderful interviews with legendary players like Teresa Weatherspoon, Rebecca Lobo, Crystal Robinson and Sue Wicks set the stage for a time — 1995 to be exact — when the idea of a professional women’s league was barely even a dream.

“So with that being said, Gayle King, I publicly tore you down by coming at you in a derogatory manner based off of emotions, being mad at questions you asked … so I would like to apologize to you publicly for the language that I used and calling you out of your name and just being disrespectful.”
Snoop Dogg said he felt the need to defend Bryant. King asked Leslie about the 2003 Colorado case in which Bryant faced rape charges, outraging those who felt the questions were...

He's taking the high road. Snoop Dogg is burying the hatchet with Gayle King. Last week, after footage from King's interview with basketball star Lisa Leslie went viral, many people were quick to criticize the journalist for what some deemed insensitive remarks regarding the late basketball star Kobe Bryant. Snoop Dogg was one of the first celebrities to share his uncensored thoughts on King's interview, and what he had to say was very powerful. "Gayle King," he said, shaking his head. "Out of pocket for that s--t. Way out of pocket. What do you gain from that? I swear to God, we're the worst. We're the f--king worst. We expect more from you, Gayle....

Journalists continue to defend CBS News’ Gayle King as the backlash over an interview excerpt with Wnba star Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant’s 2004 rape case enters its second week.
#IStandWithGayle trended on Twitter Monday morning as MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tore into the media for not defending King after the clips of her pressing Leslie went viral. Scarborough was especially critical of response — or lack of response — to a video posted by Snoop Dogg warning King, “Respect the family and back off, b-tch, before we come get you.”
“The media silence deafening,” Scarborough said, calling on Snoop Dogg collaborators like Katy Perry and Martha Stewart to defend the journalist.

As the owner of the Paramount movie studio, Viacom is often on the lookout for drama. Who knew its newest potboiler would come from one of the units it got paired with as a result of its merger with CBS?
CBS News is in the business of producing “60 Minutes” and “Face The Nation,” but in recent days the division has had its collective hands full with some kind of soap opera: Gayle King, one of its most prominent on-air journalists, was threatened online by Snoop Dogg as well as others after a snippet of an interview she conducted with Wnba player Lisa Leslie about the death of former basketball great Kobe Bryant went viral. The short clip that got passed around online, just one short exchange in a much longer interview, showed King asking Leslie about sexual-assault charges levied against Bryant in an earlier part of his career. Snoop Dogg, who caught heat over the weekend for seeming to have threatened Gayle King in an Instagram video post, is now insisting the message was misinterpreted, saying, “I don’t want no harm to come to her, and I didn’t threaten her. All I did was say, ‘Check it out. You out of pocket for what you doing, and we watching you.'”
In his previous video, which had the rapper-actor criticizing King for her interview with basketball player Lisa Leslie about the late Kobe Bryant, Snoop Dogg had called the “CBS This Morning” co-anchor a “funky dog-head b—-” and “punk motherf—er” before saying: “Respect the family and back off, b—, before we come get you.”
That led to admonitions against Snoop for his ominous warning and epithets from an array of celebrities, journalists and African American activists who believed he had gone too far.

CBS News president Susan Zirinsky called death threats made against Gayle King “reprehensible,” after the “CBS This Morning” host was criticized and received death threats for asking about a sexual assault charge against Kobe Bryant in an interview.
“We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist,” Zirinsky told The Associated Press. “We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible.”
King interviewed basketball star Lisa Leslie Wednesday in which one of the many things they discussed was the late Kobe Bryant. But the clip that aired to promote the interview focused heavily on Bryant’s rape trial from 2003, in which King had asked Leslie if that news tarnished his legacy in her eyes.

CBS News President Susan Zirinsky has addressed the fallout from Gayle King’s interview about Kobe Bryant, calling threats against the CBS This Morning co-anchor “reprehensible.”
“We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist,” Zirinsky told the Associated Press Saturday. “We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible.”

CBS declined to discuss the nature of the threats today, but Zirinsky’s statement essentially confirms Winfrey’s account.

CBS News came to the defense of one of its star anchors Saturday after morning host Gayle King was subjected to threats of violence by entertainer Snoop Dogg and others in the wake of an interview in which one of her questions pertained to a sexual assault charge against the late Kobe Bryant.
The interview, between King and the Wnba’s Lisa Leslie, “was comprehensive and thoughtful. We are a country where differences of opinion are welcome – but hateful and dangerous threats are completely unacceptable,” said Susan Zirinsky, president of CBS News, in a statement. She added: “We fully support Gayle King and her integrity as a journalist. We find the threats against her or any journalist doing their job reprehensible.”
On Thursday, a visibly distraught King broke convention by taking to social media to explain that a question she had asked about Bryant was only one of many about the basketball legend.

Through thick and thin, Oprah Winfrey will always have Gayle King's back. Earlier this week, the CBS This Morning host came under fire following her interview with Lisa Leslie, in which King seemed to press the retired Wnba superstar about Kobe Bryant's 2003 rape charge. “CBS This Morning” co-anchor Gayle King took to Twitter to complain about the way CBS News excerpted her recent interview with former Wnba player Lisa Leslie about basketball great Kobe Bryant – a rare display of a major news personality visibly at odds with her network over editorial judgement.
In a two-part video posted to Twitter Thursday, King told followers she was “advised to say nothing,” but that wasn’t “good enough” after a snippet of an interview in which King asked Leslie her thoughts about accusations in 2003 that Bryant had raped a woman. A criminal case against Bryant was dropped on Sept. 1, 2004, after the accuser declined to testify. In August of that year, the woman filed a civil lawsuit, which was settled out of court on March 2, 2005. People who saw the clip were led to believe King had asked only about Bryant’s legal woes.

CBS This Morning anchor Gayle King posted a two-part video on social media Thursday morning, saying she was “mortified” and “very angry” at CBS for posting a “salacious” clip of her interview with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant. (See King’s video below.)

While the criminal complaint against him was dropped, Bryant reached an out-of-court settlement with his 19-year-old accuser and issued a statement acknowledging that their sexual encounter may not have seemed consensual to her.
